I love the artstyle, really nice looking trains, love the vibe
The game looks fantastic and the sound design is amazing but the one thing that bothered me is that i was a bit lost because i might hav emissed a tutorial? and i wish i could drag and drop the train itself without holding a passenger in my hand. I felt stuck.
Thanks a lot for the kind words @applejollygarden !
@unpickel Oh, sorry for the confusion! Just hold and drag the passenger inside the carriage to move them from one seat to another :) But thanks for playing!
I played your game, but, to be honest, I didnāt quite grasp the point of itābeyond the actual process of collecting emojis and transporting passengers. What is their purpose? Also, it seems like the icons arenāt clickable, and I couldnāt figure out what else there is to do.
That said, the hand-drawn artwork is very well-craftedā everything looks absolutely great! An amazing job for a game created during a game jam.
@gamescodedogsoh no i meant being able to do that without holding a passenger! I wanted to look at the train without having to hold a little guy because it's so pretty :D
@unpickel, it's probably a bug :) You should be able to look at the train without holding a little guy. Managing the passengers is optional :)
Hey @maxxxmax, thanks for the kind words. The idea is to enjoy the aesthetics of travelling by train. If you want to interact with passengers, you can make them happier by finding their perfect seats.
The Windows version runs in the background as a companion app, so you can work or study while listening to train sounds and enjoying the cozy, gentle feeling of travelling somewhere :)
But I understand that the web version may be a bit confusing because of the fake Windows background :) I hope that makes sense!
Honestly, pretty cool! A few things feel rough around the edges, like im not really getting what for was all that windows stuff
Hey @ry0! Thanks :) The Windows background just illustrates that the Windows version works directly over the actual desktop background. The best "illustration idea" we've come up with to keep providing the web version for the Ludum Dare community :)
Cool, great vibes. I love old trains. In terms of gameplay, it reminded me of the game "Is This Seat Taken?"
@kremlebot exactly! Thanks for your comment!
Really cool simulator! I love the graphics and the concept. Great job, and good luck with the game!
Thanks @efim , will do our best (after some sleep)!
Love the feels! The artwork is amazing, even if the gameplay itself falls a little short. The controls feel a bit clunky (maybe being able to move around the train by dragging horizontally could make navigation feel more natural?). I also feel like the game might take up a bit too much screen space for something intended to be a desktop companion app. Still, a lovely concept with a great atmosphere!
fun concept!
A little train living on your desktop is such a lovely idea.
The artwork looks beautiful, and the whole concept feels really cozy :3
I really enjoyed this! The train visuals are gorgeous, and the mechanical detail on the wheels and rods is impressive. Itās a super charming way to use the theme, and sorting the passengers into their preferred seats makes for a very sweet and relaxing experience.
Gorgeous, fascinating little game -- absolutely loved it. Excellent work -- well done!
I really like all the visuals, marvelous!!! This old fashioned style and the cards really attracts me. I like how as player I can accompany the guests along their trip. I collected quite a lot of smiles, but the icons are kind of puzzling to me, not knowing what they are for and whether or not I can / should click them. It is sweet to step back a couple decades and learn about the history. For the left and right switching between carriages is a bit troubling for me. I kept getting passengers at the very edge of my screen. Might be better if the view moves along with the mouse. (lovely train, love it)
Great game, I love the mood, this is fun and original, only thing i disliked is the sound.
The artwork is absolutely stellar
Hi @leandre00, thanks! I donāt like it either and hope to find time to redo it. I dream of using something more close to the real sounds of the exact locomotives we have in the game.
@grizwhirl, thank you for the kind words! I just forwarded your message to Alex, our artist.
Such a lovely and relaxing concept! I really like the idea of having a little train running along the bottom of your desktop while you're doing other things!
The art style is charming, and I love the attention to detail with the locomotive sounds! The passenger seating mechanic is also a nice touch that gives you something to interact with without making the experience stressful.
I'd love to see more trains, different landscapes, and maybe some weather effects like rain or snow to make the journeys even more atmospheric!
Overall, a really cozy and original take on the Old Tech theme. Great job!
There are two types of people in this world: those who are freezing because of the draft, and those who are dying because it's too stuffy. :D
Love the desktop companion idea! And a special thanks for the game within a game: the Staring Out of a Train Window Simulator. :D
Such a cool game to play - the art was really awesome, and it was such a unique use of the theme. Had a great time!
Nice calm game
Game has good art style but sound is a bit annoying because sound of the train is really short and it's repeats over and over.
Beautiful artwork! I really like the attention to detail in the locomotives. Great work!
Great game, I love the mood, this is fun and original, only thing i disliked is the sound.
a little train running along the bottom of the desktop is such a cozy idea, and the fact that you can ride the flying scotsman or the big boy makes it feel like a proper tribute to the old locomotives. the sound design being synthesized from the real wheel layout is a lovely detail too. was it hard to get the exhaust beats to line up with the wheel rhythm? really charming project.
Awesome game, I absolutely love the artstyle, and combined with the audio it makes for such a good nostalgic atmosphere! The concept of having to shuffle around people to fullfill their wishes is fun too, but I felt like the game lacked a bit of tension, it never really felt like there was any way I could do something wrong, which fits the chill atmosphere but makes the gameplay become boring pretty quickly. Also, having the train only cover the bottom of the screen felt a bit weird, don't know what you could have done different though.
All in all though, great game, definitly my favourite so far in terms of atmosphere!
Wow the game is very beautiful. It's crazy that you made ALL OF THIS by yourself, congratulations! The gameplay is quite simple, but fun. It's more of a relaxing game than something more complicated, but imho that's much better for Ludum Dare :)
Hey folks! Thanks for all the kind words and ideas for improvements. Much appreciated!
@ao-85 @leandre00 @vlaadiimiir @elmani335 @bit0 , could you please check out the new version of the game when you have a moment?
We wanted to accurately simulate the sound of the lever that turns the wheels striking.
But we seem to have overlooked something while working late over the weekend, when we were tired and not thinking clearly. Weāve now fixed the errors and would love to hear what you think.
Thank you!
Really lovely graphics, thoroughly enjoyed looking at the landscape pass by.
And you get a bonus point for also including the _Big Boy_ locomotive š
The blend of the nostalgic Win95/98 desktop vibe with the super cozy train simulation is pure genius š
Everything feels so remarkably polished ! The parallax scrolling through the window is mind-blowing! š Interaction loop is simple, satisfying, and super relaxing. The aesthetic create such a lovely, warm atmosphere. It fits the "OLD TECH" theme in such a clever, refreshing way.
Huge congratulations the the hard workš
What a great little game. Very original, the art is amazing, I love the big window view it's so pretty. Very neat, might use this later on, this really has great ambiance.
I really like how this game combines so many things: the trains, the background, and the calm feeling of a long train journey! Itās a love letter to every train fan!
The graphics also deserve a special mention!
Very cute! This is a really unique experience.
The passenger gameplay reminded me a bit of the game Is This Seat Taken, but you definitely have your own chill twist on it
The train sounds and art are great!
very relaxing game :))
ld60_train.jpg pu-pu-pu. Not good š
Okay, about the game - 1) for a pity you can't click on the desktop items 2) Some of the people didn't fully fit on my screen, and the arrow buttons would scroll right past them.
I also noticed that you can seat people correctly, collect the emoji, and then move them around again. I'm not sure if that affects anything. Also I only found out by accident that you're supposed to click on the emojis. Maybe there was a hint, but I missed it.
Lovely game I was hoping for lots of train games for this theme. I love the art and the sound effects are nicely timed. I did a train game myself, the clack clack of the rails was quite tricky and I didn't quite get it right.
The artwork is fantastic!
Beautiful views! Also love the passengers who just wanna sit by themselves.
I really love the concept! One thing that feels a bit awkward is quickly dragging people around ā for some reason, you have to be a real sniper to select the right person. Also, everyone seems to want the Golden Seat! I think adding more varied passenger requirements could make the gameplay even more interesting. Great job!
I love trains and games about traveling, so this game was right up my alley!
Tried the web version and spent a while clicking on those icons in vain haha. I do feel like there could be a little more to do in the game, but overall I love it! Itās so cozy and wholesome, and the descriptions of the landmarks outside the window were such a lovely surprise. Iād love to take a train from kx to Edinburgh myself someday :)) btw Iāve been following your team for a while and really love your work!
I played a little bit, unlocked the second train and watched through train windows. The art is amazing: both the trains and the scenery!
But I don't know if I wanted a game of rearranging seats in a desktop companion app. Won't it be distracting?
Thank you all for the kind words. Iām glad you enjoyed playing. Please tell us if thereās anything you didnāt like. Weāve also heard from people who live along the trainās route, which has been really interesting.
As for seating passengers, thatās a good point. If this is a desktop companion, Iāll probably worry that someone is unhappy and feel the need to keep checking. That could stop the game from staying in the background as intended, so weāll need to see.
@dracco-0n nooo waay, that's so cool, happy to see you here! Train from kx to Edinburgh is on the list, deal :)
@woona I find it reassuring to know that seating passengers doesnāt take long and that theyāre comfortable afterward. I only need to check on them at each station, which isnāt very often. But players donāt know that nothing else needs attention between stops, so they might keep worrying that something has changed and they should check.
Thatās a very good observation. Thank you.
What a great job! The art is incredibly beautiful, highly detailed, and remarkably complete given the short duration of the game jam, itās truly surprising that you all made it to the end in one piece jaja! I would have loved to have this beautiful game as a wallpaper on my Windows 98 xD. The mechanics are simple but super relaxing; youāve done a wonderful job! Congratulations!
Very lovely and evocative, a nice concept and great for the theme. Enjoyed my time spent on the tracks. The artwork is beautiful and I thought the UI was nicely done, very clear and great for a jam. Thanks for making!
Very cozy, liked the logic puzzle bits of the passengers, but yeah an option to turn that part off for a desktop companion could be useful. It could be fun if they just had some dialogue that'd popup now and then as you watched them or they moved around on their own. For the cargo train, it'd be cool if there were more stops and you could load/unload the cargo (again with an option to turn that part off and just have it kind of be automated). Neat idea!
This is really great! Impressed with the art and animations you were able to put together with the time. A very cozy kind of game. Wouldn't mind a little more things to do as far as gameplay if you continue to work on it. The implementation of it being on a computer desktop is an interesting idea. If you were planning to implement some gameplay through that it could be interesting.
It's really unusual to play right on the desktop ā such a clever idea! And I loved the meditative quality of the train. Nice work!)
Having a train as a companion app is a cool idea! Also, the artwork is beautiful and, although dynamic audio is not fully on the spot, you have done a good work. I liked the interesting facts along the way. Loved it!
