@unima9000 Thanks for your feedback!
I just redeployed it to github.io, here is the new link: https://theatrejs.github.io/ludum-dare-57.
(It seems that my Game Engine doesn't get the focus on itch.io pages sometimes...)
Enjoy! :smiling_imp:
This game is super interesting. Alas for me personally very challenging. I have an issue to coordinate myself in such space, and I get easily lost. Again this is just MY PERSONAL problem, so I will not rate subjectively, but rather objectively. I really like the idea and execution, the game is fun and I like the original idea for such puzzle, I've never seen this before. The music adds nice mood and graphics are simple yet charming :)
Overall great entry, I just wish I was better at these kinds of games to enjoy it more.
Very nice and simple idea! Very well executed, good job. :joystick:
Really cool concept! At first I was a bit puzzled about the mirroring images, but then I could get it with a manual DFS hehe
Would love to see more of it! Stuff like being able to push the stone would open so many more combinations
Does he actually flip the middle finger on exit? Haha, this is such a fun little game!:P
> Does he actually flip the middle finger on exit?
Yeah, I must admit I asked myself the same question :-)
Anyway, the pixel art is really nice, especially the choice of colors. The idea is brain-melting, but at least you kept it in 2D (with this concept, you can easily do 4D :D)!
Some musical advice:
- don't restart the music at each level ( The first ones are really short, this quickly gets annoying )
- you could tune the buzzing of the exit vortex to the music. ( Your music is in C minor, but the buzzing is some kind of out-of-tune G#. You could tune the buzzing to a C, to a G, to an Eb, all of these would do the job.)
Cheers!
This game is a bit confusing but I figured it out eventually. It's certainly unique. I like the minimalist graphics. The sounds and the music are nice too.
Really cool concept. A bit difficult to get how the world looks, so a bit of randomly walking and turning around to finish the levels. Fells somewhat like a Rubik's cube :P
Reminds me of that 4d golf game! So hard to get my head around. So some sort of visual cue would help departing from the randomly moving around!
The concept is clearly a win on innovation, music is nice, maybe the loop is a bit short. Sfx are great (nice voice acting at the beggining!)
I have starred and added your repository to a list of ld57 compo :https://github.com/stars/dhmmasson/lists/ludum-dare-57-compo. You can go check them out and share the love ⭐
I have also created badges for the readme that you can add to the one you already have ``` Ludum Dare Ludum Dare ```
Consider using these **topics** to make your Ludum Dare entry more discoverable: - `game` - `game-development` - `ludum-dare` - `ludumdare` - `ludumdare57` - `ludum-dare-57` - `ld57`
You may add a cover image in the settings and update the name of your repo to match the title of your game for better visibility, previous links to your github repo will still work (but not the deployement on github.io, that needs to be updated)
best luck!
Lovely art and music and the game functions great but I really just couldn't wrap my head around the idea. I pretty much just ended up spamming until I found the end haha interesting concept though!
Brain breaking! Cool take on the theme. I found my self getting lost a lot, and just wandering around. Is there some trick I missed? or do I just have poor 1d spacial awareness? Good build up on the levels though!
I got lost 35 times in 3 minutes, amazing
Cool idea, nicely presented. Solved most of the levels by wandering aimlessly, but it was fun to properly work out the route.
I am completely unable to picture stuff in my head so this was some sort of hell (no pun intended) for me, but hey I managed to reach the end through trial and error 🎉 Would be interested in seeing what the levels looked like after finishing them. And maybe a replay of the path I took to see how stupid I was Nice graphics and concept!
I love this! I'm a big puzzle game fan, and I don't think I've ever experience a mechanic like this before. I had a great time zipping through the puzzle. Some of the later layouts are very nice!
I beat the game swiftly, and immediately understood the core mechanic. I love that you added the Compass and used different shading to indicate directionality. That make it much easier to controls and mentally visualize.
I wish the music was a little more epic and evolving. Would also be nice to see a final breakdown and/or level selector screen. As a puzzle game player, I like to be able to visualize how much content I completed (and for non-jam game, how much remains).
Anyway, I loved this! This definitely seems like a strong contender for turning into a small, tight, niche commercial release
This is a cool idea.
Really cool yet confusing game. I really liked the visuals and the audio of the game.
The idea and visuals are great! Was a bit hard to wrap my head around the orientation mechanic, it's quite confusing, maybe in there could be a minimap/rotation animation or something similar? Loved the artstyle, looks really cool, overall a fun little game:)
Fun and interesting idea for a puzzle game, was confusing at first but got the hang of it. Fun to play too, nice work!
Very clever concept. I agree with some commenters that a mini-map could be very useful, but maybe that would make it lose its mind-bending charm.
I liked the clean visuals, and the overall polish.
Very smart gameplay ! A little bit hard to handle but nice when you understand 😊 Well done !
I am impressed...! This reminds me of FEZ !
Oh boy, I am not even sure how I was able to beat around 5 levels, then I felt like fucked in the head XD
I am definitely interested in taking a look at your source code. I got hooked. Definitely interested on your inner mechanics for this. But more so, how *easy* it was for you to build the those levels?!
Here is one idea that comes to mind - *maybe* some kind of a 3d projection (maybe as a hint - and you have limited hints there or time-bound) of the current surroundings of the character or sth. Cool cool! You dare to try new things : )))
Congratulation! What an interesting concept for a game! And i like how it's done and i especially impressed by it being a custom engine and a COMPO game! Very unusual and clever use of the theme - lack of depths. I end up only using two directions switching between them, it made it easier to visualize map. The small nitpick that i have is that N on the compass turns into Z when looking sideways, that confused me a little at the start.
Very cool art!
Nice game here, cool concept and love the visuals. Audio gets a bit much the more you play but really glad it has it! Nice work.
Very fun idea! At first it was a bit overwhelming and I got a bit lost after the levels became non trivial, but I got the hang of it quickly once I found realized that you can only use view directions. With that I was able to really map the levels out in the head and find the path. And it was actually pretty fun! You managed to create some levels that aren't easily solvable by just walking randomly walking around but weren't too hard to solve either. Also the graphics were nice and coherent and the music with the sound recording are very cool! Really liked this one!
**Except for the last level**, every level has a direct path, with **no red herrings**!
Now, I can spoil the Level Design! :smiling_imp:

Now that I see the maps, I really wonder how I managed to finish the last one :joy: (but I did, I promise, even if I didn't let any comment at the moment)
