I think this game has some good potential to grow into a management simulator of some sort. The biggest issue with the gameplay right now is that there is no way to lose. Fish continue eating while you're in the contract screen, so you can always just wait for there to be enough capacity in your tank to get a new body. Carnivorous Corpse Aquarium has an excellent UI for the player to interact with, though. Everything feels responsive, and the layout makes sense.
@unloosed Thank you for the honest feedback. There was a lot more "simulation" I envisioned adding but ran out of time. My original vision included managing water temperature, pH, etc... and being able to buy and upgrade different components of the tank like the heater, filter, etc...
Losing fish was what I was about to add before I ran out of time :/
I think theres a lot of room for expansion for the game and I like the concept. So I plan to add to it in the future just for the fun of it with new plants/creatures, better and more varied artwork, and more complicated aquarium simulation!

@adrien-tremblay Absolutely! Adding a way to lose fish would be a great addition to push the player forward with a sense of urgency.
I think you should definitely follow through with your additions, they sound cool. I understand that we only had so much time to make a full game, so I apologize if I sounded harsh.

The game is fun in general, the pixle art of yours is simple but get it job done, and the corpse is the highlignt of your game. And I love gorys!

Great game and so much potential to add more elements based on the framework. It's fun! Only thing is that it loses too fast for me when the water is too unhealthy

Cute idea! It would have been neat if the bodies were visually different, or even if they had different attributes that synergized with different creatures. Like, if fish couldn't eat hair, so you needed more snails to deal with people with long hair. Or if some types of fish liked fingers and toes, so if you were given a body with them cut off those fish would be unhappy. That all would have been too much to expect from a jam game though. If this were a full game I could also see a Papers Please-type plot where which contracts you pick up determine changes in the story.
Having music was nice but some of the sound effects were very loud in contrast.
@impiaaa. Holy crap. Thank you for the comment. I really like those ideas. I will try and add them. I had not thought of adding creature synergy though I did plan to vary the appearance of the bodies. I will try and add that. I plan to extend this game in the coming weeks for fun.
Adding a plot is also an awesome idea. I had not considered that lol. I have played Papers Please and enjoyed the progressive story.
The vibe of this game is absolutely insane. Love the music, lighting effects, and the writing of the shady nautilus company. And on top of that the gameplay is fun and somewhat addictive (is that morally questionable to say? ) One thing that could increase the difficulty ramp is the contracts coming faster and faster as you progress to make it a challenge to keep up with demand. great job!!!
Love the concept and art style. Would have liked to see a bit more depth in terms of purchase options, but the game was still enjoyable for its duration.
@emmagsmith Thanks for the comment, contracts coming faster and eventually getting penalized for not taking them is a good idea!

the concept is very original, makes you think about genius and morality! 🐠💀 Pixel graphics and funny contracts make the game exciting and a little silly - in a good way! 😄👏 The ability to develop the game and add new elements opens up a lot of prospects 🚀💖 Great job!
Wow. I did it. I retired having achieved my aim.
really fun concept, very unique and a really neat management simulator
Before plants get added to the tank, some of the corpses are heavy enough to singlehandedly deplete aquarium health, and it made things a little confusing until I figured out the mechanics. Not sure how attached you are to having the biomass & corpse weight have a hidden relationship, but maybe the game could prevent overweight corpses from appearing for the first contract selection.
Otherwise, the idea of a secret aquarium body disposal agency is kind of brilliant. It was great watching the fish devour humans in under a second by the end of it.

I loved playing the game. Once you got enough fish and plants, the game eventually got repetitive, but i really enjoyed the game. The mood of the game is probably the best part of the game. Great game.

Buy items button does nothing. is it ok? It could be a very interesting simulator if add some more options and statuses and objects. Id like to play it then)
@sdcorpse I didn't have time to implement items unfortunately!!! :'(
That was a very dark sense of humor! I had a hard time deciding when I was able to take on the capacity of a second person. it seemed that no matter how many times I played, accepting 2 contracts at once always resulted in the aquarium failing.
The idea of munging them with the plants, underwater, with the progressive damage was very effective!
@candlesan Thanks for the comment! Yeah you need to buy A LOT of plants in order to be able to put more than one body in the tank at once! Also depends on the weight of the person. The weight can range from 120lbs to 250lbs!

This is a really nice vertical slice of what can easily be a bigger project.
Everything looks and works great, and while I know you wanted to add more in the timeframe, this stands on its own as a self-contained little game.
I think what I like most is how cohesive it all is, the art, sound, music, buttons and font all match in style and feel.
Had a lot of fun, thank you.
Loved this very morbid game, fits the theme really well. It took a few goes around to figure out the best strategy for success but once it clicked I really enjoyed it. The sound got a little repetitive after a while, especially in the late game when there were a lot of fish and snails, so maybe a mute button or some sound control would be good. Really good effort!

I was quite impressed when I saw this was made by one person. The UI and worldbuilding emerge as highlights for me. With a little more time you could add more resource management elements for deeper gameplay, but seems you're already aware of this. It's a good amount of content for a short jam like this. Well done.
@druven Thank you so much!
Balancing the aquariums capacity against the desire to dispose of more corpses made a nice chill game.
Really fun idea! The graphics were really well done, and the shadows on the creatures were a nice touch. The gameplay itself felt a little shallow, but for a short jam it was definitely enough to enjoy the playthrough :)

Good compo! I appreciate that every part feels as good and polished as the others, it's common to see one aspect neglected over another. And the writing is perfect.
Really innovative, I love this kind of game!

Now this is what I call an original and morbid idea, love it! Artstyle is very cohesive and makes for a great atmosphere. I bet this is how Horzine started. I love shadows on the creatures - they look really great! Music is nicely grim, UI is cohesive, responsive, and it all just works so well together! I think that with some extra work, you could make something really, really good out of it; I would gladly buy it on Steam. I would place creatures on more spots on the body, you could add some animation for plants and creatures, add more of them, differentiate corpses, and... sky is the limit! Loved this one, definitely one of my favorite entries!

Retiring with like 500 bucks in my pocket seems much more dangerous than disposing of corpses for organized crime. Interesting game! I really liked the shadow effect of the fishes.

haha, I bought him a snail for his belly button! funny!
Really unique idea. The graphics and sound were nice and cohesive. Gameplay was pretty slow, ramping up the frequency of contracts, different animals/plants/decorations etc would help make it more interesting.

Nice idea... Could probably do with a bit of balancing - as once I'd got enough money to get a lot of plants, I became an unstoppable corpse-disposal juggernaught! Lots of ways you could expand this. Good fun.

:hushed: No one but us knows where they are now.
This was quiet the cool concept. I did run in to the "Once I had enough plants, just throw the bodies in, the fish will handle them." problem. Then just sitting and waiting for more contracts. Still was a fun little game.
Very nice game! Concept is very cool and gameplay loop is engaging. Could use some tweaking and balancing maybe: in the beginning you don't have much money to do whatever and in the end you just have to wait for the contracts. Also maybe change the font (or background) color on you itch.io page, some more contrast would make it easier to read.
A very cool entry! P.-S.: that soundtrack drops hard!
Morbid fish tank simulator, I like it. I definitely messed up the first couple of tries and had to refresh the page to start over, but I got the hang of it eventually. Fun learning curve.
