Nice! Can get surprisingly addicting; Overall smoother animations and a bit better lighting would make the game just that bit better!
Thank you for playing!
@rezistor thankfully resolved now. :laughing:
@mmph great points, especially with lighting - yours is on point and much more atmospherical. I have to learn to work with lights better.

🐞 The game can be surprisingly addictive. The animation is smooth, although some improvements in lighting would really make it even better. 💡 Despite the problems with the web version, the developer did a great job and the gameplay is still fun!
Thank you for playing, @sviborg! Yeah, lighting would definitely make this much better, gotta look into it after the jam. :)
Man this was very addictive to play after a while. I forgive you for the post-compo optimisations, and it provided for a great experience.
Good work brother! This is sick!
This was fun to play. I played the optimized version on a web browser and it worked fine. Gameplay-wise the game has a nice loop (killing critters, picking up stuff, go kill more critters) and the music fits nicely.
The gameplay is really nice, the music is great! Played through it a few times. I liked the tiny creatures jumping all at the same time
The only thing I wasn't sure on was the tilting on A/D, felt a bit weird, but it's only a minor thing :)
Thank you all for playing and leaving a feedback!
@stormburpee phew, glad you didn't mind and had a great experience!
@ladybenko glad you liked the music, I spent only a relatively little time with it, but thankfully melody didn't take long, and instruments were just some basic Sylenth presets.
@adjo glad you liked my frogs, it's true that you cannot really examine them closely, haha. Will keep the tilting in mind, most of my friends liked it, but I can see both sides. Good candidate for toggling on/off in settings if I decide to continue forward with this game!
Played and rated all of your games back. :)
Awesome music. I had a fun time playing this one. I wish the shotgun was a bit faster, and the A/D tilt is a bit extreme but felt good otherwise. A bit more polish and this game could be even better!
Very good work I really took fun playing it :D And music is BANGER !
Love the game! You actually did great! As a bit of an idea, maybe a reaload would be nice, so more impact would be in game, so gameplay has more flow, bcause for now it feels a bit monotonous. And i love the camera movement! image_2024-10-07_223603327.png
Dynamically! It somewhat reminded us of our first project on ludum dare. I liked the graphic style.
Thank you all for playing!
@dooskington glad you liked the music. Good point with shotgun being slightly slow, I could have thought about it. I focued way too much on spread. Tilt could have been smaller, good point. Thank you very much for gerat feedback! Rated your game back!
@ngryyyyy glad you liked the music and had fun playing! I see you don't have any game, but if you do, please tag me and I will play it.
@mmm1008fm reloading would indeed be nice, but I was worried about it taking way too much time, plus it requires splitting models into more pieces. But were this not a jam game, I would definitely consider it. Maybe in the future? Also I see that you're fixing the game, so, I will check it and rate it when ready. :)
Glad you liked the graphics style, @volkolak and thank you for playing! Rated your game back. :)
Cool shooter in such deeply pixelated graphic) Sound is fine, even looped, it not becomes noisy! I tried to jump over the wall via jumping on enemies, but failed(
Capture.PNG
Felt impossible after getting the minigun, no idea how someone has 29K.
Simple but fun game. There is (mostly) a natural progression to the weapons that keeps up well enough to the enemies for the most part. I do wish there was a reason to go back to the previous guns with some mechanical advantages though, it felt odd to be able to but have no reason to.
The visuals look great, very atmospheric. The camera sway with the strafe was a bit difficult to get used to but felt natural after a couple minutes. The enemies were appropriately scary (though maybe a bit too scary when a spider got stuck on my head).
Good work!
Thank you for playing and leaving a comment!
@custodi very original, that would probably save you, because I didn't implement dying if you get out of arena... but I kept it in my mind, I just forgot! Rated your game back. :)
@bad-fetus true, I tried some balancing with different damage dealt and of course different speed, but it's true that last two guns are OP compared to the previous ones. I got spider stuck on my head few times, but didn't have enough time to resolve it. Seems that it happens if you stand close to spawner and it just spawns on your head. That can ruin the day. And I see I already rated your game. :)
love the art style and aesthetics!!
The shotgun seemed a bit weak but other than that it was alright.
Thank you for your feedback!
@aplovestudio glad you liked that, makes my heart happy.
@brain-siege-gameworks true, shotgun is definitely an underdog here.
Rated your games back!
What a fun game! Also, I can confirm that it works on GNU/Linux. I tested it on my Debian, and I was able to play perfectly :-). It’s a survival horror game, and honestly, it's very addictive. What I would love is for the shotgun to kill more of the tiny creatures. Maybe I'm just used to classic DOOM, but it's always such a pleasure to blast multiple enemies with a single shotgun shot. That said, congratulations on the game! For a COMPO, it's really, really well done! I’ve never dared to make a 3D game for a COMPO myself, but with games like this one, I feel inspired to give it a try. Thanks :-)
Cool game idea! I liked it! Good job!
Thank you for the great feedback, @milq! Great to hear that Linux build works, that's a big surprise to me, honestly, haha. You're definitely right about the shotgun — in Doom, it's literally a blast. I am very likely to continue working on this game in the future and make something bigger out of it, so, I will definitely improve this part. If you're at least somewhat comfortable with 3D, I can absolutely recommend making 3D game for Compo; it's a great experience and challenge. You should at least know the basics of 3D modeling, UV mapping and texturing, and a bit about 3D vectors and how they work. Though basics are fine, I still find things I don't know about all the time. Took me a while to even figure out how to make creature look at you properly and move towards you correctly. If you prepare yourself well, it's completely doable, and a lot of fun. I dared to go into 3D in Ludum Dare 52 and while sometimes you run into issues you wouldn't run in a 2D game, you don't really go back. Thank you again, and I already played and rated your game!
Glad you liked the game, @kirass, rated yours back. :)
The movement style reminds me ULTRAKILL and that's game was definitely worth it, but some audio wasn't that good like a gunshots with little noise
Thank you for the feedback, @sspsd. Yeah, audio is not that great. I did everything by my mouth, so, it leave a lot to be desired. :) Played and rated your game back!
Quite an enjoyable experience! I dig the low-poly look and might try something similar for the next jam. I play quite a lot of classic doom, so the weapons felt pretty familiar in a good way, very intuitive. If you go for a post jam version with extra content, I'd love to see some enemies with projectiles and slightly more complex enemy AI to make it harder to circle-strafe them.
Glad to play an FPS submission with a web export!
@shared thank you for playing! Glad you liked weapons and movement! Yeah, I will go for post jam version, so, I am definitely writing down all ideas which are floating around, so, more enemies with different movement are definitely on the list. I wanted to implement it here too, but I ran out of time. Thank you for feedback! Played & rated your game back. :)
Loved the movement! Fun gameplay, making me kinda nostalgic of Serious Sam. I didn't quite manage the 29k from above but came close
Screenshot 2024-10-11 063201.png
@astrayrae thank you for playing! Frogs and no reload were actually inspired by Serious Sam, so, you got me there! That's an admirable score still! Played & rated your game back. :)
I really liked the aesthetics! Would have liked to have seen a bit more enemy variety, but otherwise a fun small game!
Cool game, camera movement is something, gives me old ps1 game vibes
@gurbx that's true, more enemies would be cool! There are more enemy models in the game project, but I was not able to make them work as I would like to until the deadline, so, I kept only these. Played & rated your game back!
@artallester glad you liked the movement! And I see I already rated your game. :)
I loved this game. I loved the quake and unreal tournament vibes. The weapons were cool, the gun sounds were cool, and the music was amazing. Great job. You've totally inspired me to try and make an FPS game for my next jam!! I feel like the aesthetic you went with didn't take too much 3D modelling skill (which I have very little of), so i could probably pull off something similar. Kudos.
Thank you for a great comment, @adrien-tremblay! Glad to be an inspiration; yeah, with this artstyle, you can cut many corners (literally), which is important when you have so little time. SoBlend file is in the project - you can find it in `/assets/obj/blend_dreadzone_objects.blend`. Another dirty trick I did was to just use one material for everything; if you don't care about lightning and different model properties, you can do it like me and put everything in one 256x256 texture and use it for everything. Or, it is always possible to use flat 3D sprites for the 2.5D look, but it's tricky to pull it of so that it looks really good. Played & rated your game back, loved it!
Thanks for the tips. @dzejpi. What is the benefit of having the blendfile in the project though 🤔? Wouldn't you still need to export each part as an individual model?
@adrien-tremblay good question! I like to be as open as possible during Compo, so, I always include everything, including project files from other programs. I want to share everything I created for the jam, and if having project files helps anyone, then even better. There is even an Ableton project with music. :) But you're right — I indeed exported every object as its separate file (in `creatures_obj`, `guns_obj` and `world_obj` folders). When I work on my personal private projects, I keep the Blend file somewhere else as it can get big, and even turning the camera is considered a change, so, it can get very git unfriendly. But it's fine for a jam. However, I think that you can actually configure Godot to be able to import Blend files directly into it and it can load all objects in it. And this also means that changes in Blend file are autorefreshed in Godot, but I actually haven't tried that out yet and it sounds kinda unsafe for me. But maybe it could make sense in some cases.
Wow, retro shooter vibes and really well-made. Kudos!
Glad you liked it, @crcdng! Rated your game back. :)
This is super fun, and I still have the music playing in the background as I type this. Best I could do was 24950; things seem to get pretty impossible once you get the minigun.
Two thoughts: - There doesn't seem to be much point to _not_ sprinting, so maybe the player should just be always sprinting without needing to press shift - Bug speed doesn't appear to reset when you get a game over. Trying to pick off minigun-level bugs with the starter pistol is quite the extra challenge.
Hey @henk, thank you for playing and leaving such a great feedback! Yes, it's designed to overwhelm you eventually, there is no way to win. You're absolutely right with sprint — I am working on this game in my spare time (with hope of turning it into a full game eventually) and yes, you're definitely right, I already made the sprint default. Good catch with the creature speed, it is indeed not reset properly after the game over, oops! But their speed should readjust properly after one minute of playing, so, I guess if you survive the first frantic minute, then it should go back to normal. Ah those global variables, they always cause some trouble, yet I don't stop using them. Played & rated your game back. :)

Great game, amazing weapon variation for a compo game. The automated weapons (machine gun and minigun) only seem to shoot while there is a new input event which is a bit weird, but just wiggling the mouse a bit mostly works. Movement and everything feels great and, like everyone said, the music is very fitting, got me pumped :-)
Thank you for playing, @bernhard and good catch! Thankfully you're the first person who noticed, haha. Guess it thankfully keeps everyone moving. It happens with all guns, I think. I noticed it myself few days ago. You don't shoot unless you're in the motion or moving with camera. Will keep in mind to not use `_input` for this action the next time. I remember I had some similar issue like that in my previous game too, I guess I never learn. Played and rated your game back. :)
Loved it!
I've played Natura and Pulse of the Etheral and, as you said, it's probably your best entry yet. It's just simply fun! I'm glad you focused on plain gameplay. My best entry (a year ago) I did exactly that. I'm sorry you had troubles with exporting the web version. I've never experienced gamebreaking exporting problems with godot yet, but I know how it is sometimes. If you say that it could be even better, I am definitely looking forward to your next jam!
jp.PNG The director was really good! Enemies and drops spawned right when I needed them to spawn. There is only one slightly unbalanced downtime (two distinct moments around before the minigun spawn). Making the enemies stupid fast to assure the end of the game was a great idea to. I also need to mention how the first automatic weapon felt like a godsend ^^
I feel it kinda needs an option to change mouse sensitivity, but otherwise the controlls were on point. I love the music that you make! Aaaand I think that's all I've got to say right now xD
Thank you for an amazing feedback, @thelastslowpoke! Yea, out of those games mentioned, it's definitely the best one; especially Natura wasn't very good. You're right with two spots in the gameplay where nothing happens, I was way too busy resolving other stuff and then didn't have enough time to finetune it. Thankfully it's just a silence before the storm!
Export problems definitely taught me a valuable lesson, because I never had export issues with Godot before, but I will still stick with 4.3. Just for the next time, I will keep in mind to use proper compression for textures, and make sure there are not hundreds of nodes in the scene, haha! Mouse sensitivity is definitely a must have in a full feature game, if it ever comes to that, so, I am definitely taking notes. Thank you again, played and rated your game back!
@dzejpi To be frank, I haven't fooled around with 3D godot a lot yet, maybe it's somewhat less cooperative. I can't blame you for sticking to godot 4, it just wants you to work with it! I left unity behind like a year ago and dipped my toes in godot and I don't feel like looking back. I was in love from the start when realized how it is structured and how it wants you to structure your project. It's just clean. I know it's not a really good analogue of going from godot 3, but I just wanted to share some love for the engine ^^ Btw, if you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I'm from Gdańsk and I have some reasons to believe you're not that far from me ^^
The game itself is basic but really well made and really well balanced. I absolutely adore the graphics, the pallete is amazing and the pixel graphics almost reminds me of doom or Wolfenstein. The music was good and the sounds were fine. Overall, vibe wise and game play wise probably my favorite game!
@thelastslowpoke yeah, once you get a hang of 4, it's really good! Main challenge with 3D is that you have to understand vectors a bit, but once you do, it's not that much more difficult. I didn't try Unity much; I played around with it a bit, but never really deeply. I used to use Game Maker, but I ran into its limitations pretty quickly, which made me go to Godot. And once I did, I never looked back. I like that it has both native 2D and 3D, which is a big plus. And like you mentioned, once you get a hang of how to structure everything in it, it's great! I am from Czech republic and live in Hradec Králové, which seems to be around 600 km from Gdańsk, so, it's a question whether that's close (relatively) or not.
@whatiswhat thank you for playing! Glad you liked graphics and music, really keeps me motivated to work on this further! Rated your game back!
