Very cool twist with the spell crafting mechanic, going between running for my life and dragging for my life was very jun. Good job guys
Amazing work with the mechanic. Quite innovative. Good job!
Honestly, the gameplay is freaking sick. I love how I started to panic when the enemies creeped up on me and I just fucked up the same spell three time haha. 10/10 would spellcast wrong again.
Spell casting mechanics stole my heart, love it soooo much <3
Love the Game and the mechanics, really reminds me of Arx Fatalis. The mouse sensitivity was a bit too high and you sadly can't undo moves you made. But all in all 10/10, would play again
@letssnack Thank you! It's possible to change mouse sensitivity (Up Key & Down Key) :) We'll make that more clear in the game description, so thanks for sharing the feedback!
Really fun and cool spell mechanics!
Nice Vampire Survivors -like. :) The spellcasting was done nicely, I like how it slows down to allow you to cast a spell. Great work!
I like spell mechanics and audio and graphics and running-from-the-swarm thing
I don't like the genre because there are too many games like that now, but this particular game is quite fun and innovative. I think I actually like everything in this particular game. I only wish for more enemy types and more powerful spells
Love the spell-casting mechanic, it has a great high-risk/high-reward feeling to it and feel really satisfying once you get a hang of the longer spells.
The only thing i thought was that it would be nice to have the option to use right click instead ob space to start the cast, but that could just be a me thing :D
Really cool, loved the spellcasting mechanic! It was really fun learning how to cast the different spells and getting faster at casting them. Really liked the art and the setting of the game aswell, overall well done!
I appreciate the Norse theme and I see some of the references you made to that mythos. Nice work. Lots of good stuff here.
I like this game! You guys are great!
loved this game. Fire breath def favorite spell very strong. great work yall
So neat! Love the concept
I really like this idea and it was really fun to see what each spell does. The art is super nice and the first enemies reminded me of a Swedish childrens book/movie called "Ronja Rövardotter" where they had screaming crows and a really creepy nordic forest mythical vibe at times. (which I now realize is what you were going for after reading the description. Mission accomplished!)
If you want some constructive feedback: I had a hard time getting used to the mouse resetting when I drew spells and then go back to default attacking and aiming I felt like I had to either focus on spells or just the normal attack. So instead of having a default click attack I think it would be cool if I could click anywhere and the drawing board would be there and I could fill it in, and the default attack would be just not moving the mouse during the drawing phase or something. Cause the drawing was so cool I think it would've been great to combine that with the normal attack somehow.
Anyways really cool game, well done!
Love it, it's hard, innovating and fun. What more can one ask. Way to stressful for me to keep playing for too long. All round great job
*NOTE* I'm on Linux, and I couldn't get linux version to work :( Game start up, but clicking "start game" gets me this LinuxSS.png And I can't do anything :( I got the Web version working tho
10 Minutes, 700 monsters, around Level 6 or 7. Only 2 spells were offered last time so I guess I nearly played through the game! :D Very interesting concept, it was thrilling to go on and explore new spells, and they all sounded so good. However my fingers hurt after the session because due to the heavy mouse and keyboard movements. :D I really like the art style of, I would gladly play an RPG with this art style! Nice job, cheers!
Oh, this is creepy! Also, it gets quite frantic really soon :) Audio and visuals are cool and the mechanics of casting spells are quite interesting. I'd appreciate something like "redial" last spell or something that casts the same spell multiple times so I don't need to draw it before each shot. Maybe if the spells deal more damage but I guess a more complex one does. I just didn't get to it, the forest always gets me!
Enjoyed the spell mechanics and atmosphere! Extra challenging because my mouse cursor drifted downwards whenever I was using the drum, and when I first used a new spell the game lags for a few seconds -- maybe because I tried playing in Firefox? It would also be nice if the cursor was automatically centered on the drum when you open it so you can start tracing the pattern right away. Still, very impressed with it overall!
trolldoom.jpg "Enjoyed playing through the game, thanks for the entertainment. Liked the idea of drawing spells, but had difficulties getting used to the controls. It seems worth trying to change the mechanics so that not every spell needs to be drawn, to make the gaming session less tiring. Good job, guys!
@svenerik Thanks! We're really happy the theme resonated with you!
@malte Thank you for the nice feedback! "Running for my life and dragging for my life" could be a great tagline :D
@westeaststudio Thanks! The casting mechanic took a lot of tweaking to get right (with room for further improvement, especially on web). :)
@dekisenpaitm Haha, that's exactly the reaction we were hoping for :) Thank you for playing and the kind feedback!
@catnap Thank you! We really appreciate hearing that! We look to improve it futher in future versions.
@letssnack Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it! We introduced a last minute setting to tweak mouse sensitivity but we've updated this page to make it more clear. We hear you on being able to undo moves, definitely a consideration for future versions...
@kingstone426 Thanks for the kind feedback!
@manabreak Thank you! Slowing down while casting went through a few iterations, glad you appreciated it!
@jbisnee Thanks for the kind words! We also like running-from-the-swarm thing :D
@hvox We really appreciate the feedback! We had 3x the spells planned but we weren't able to add them all in time for the deadline. Consideration for the future...
@krisss Thank you! That was our hope when designing it, and we appreciate your feedback and suggestions on alternate ways to cast!
@theheheo Thank you! We're very happy with how the art and setting turned out, great to see it reasonate with you!
@storeyware Thanks! Great to see you appreciating the theme and references. We have more things in mind that didn't make the Jam deadline...
@kirass Thank you! We like your feedback and you're great :)
@ian Thanks! The fire breath spell is one of our favorites as well, especially when combined with narrow choke points... :)
@fredrik Thanks for the kind words! :)
@jejkobb Thank you, we definitely appreciate the constructive feedback. The mouse casting beavior and and user effort balancing casting and running has been a recurring pain point we would want to revisit in future iterations. Your suggestions are spot on and something we've discussed.
@incd021 Thank you, and we appreciate the feedback on the Linux version. We'll take a look but great to hear the web version worked as a fallback
@tudvari Thanks for the kind words and sharing your stats, surviving for 10 minutes is great progress, and you're right about the number of spells. Good feedback around the ergonomic nature of casting, definitely something we're taking into account for future versions!
@jiri Thank you! We completely agree regarding the feedback you shared about casting, and we're taking that into account for future iterations... And "The forest always gets me" is a great quote :)
@kirsybuu Thank you! We appreciate you sharing the feedback on the mouse casting and lag, definitely something we'd want to address in future iterations.
@konstantinreed Thanks, and great achievement! Winning in less than 5 minutes is quite the feat! We definitely agree with your feedback, will take it into account for the future.
That was pretty cool! I really felt the panic trying to cast spells and out run the demons. It was a nice touch having the player try to remember the patterns for the spells while under so much pressure. I had fun, thanks!
Who would have thought that Vampire Survivors with phone unlocking on top would make for a game this fun! Somewhere in the middle of the game it almost felt like needing to actively think to be able breath, if you know what I mean, but then I unlocked Flame Breath and things got fun again!
But this game would be far less if not for the sound design. Of course, I love the shaman vibes, but the sound serves an actual purpose here. Different sounds for different points on the drum make every spell unique and allows for blazing fast, almost natural, spell casting. At this point, covering the whole view with a drum for casting seems unnecessary, since you can learn how the spell sounds and use it without looking. I'd love to see the development of this idea. And from that point, more smart enemies could be introduced to make things feel less repetitive.
Superb entry! I want to remember this. I'd love to see it developed further, but I enjoyed it as it is. Thank you!
I was really struggling to do any kind of crowd control, and then I unlocked flame breath and that carried the rest of the game. I played twice, and both times it seemed like I went from 100% health to 0% health in a single hit against one of the larger enemies? It was an abrupt way to end both runs, which otherwise felt like they were going pretty well.
But other than that, this is a really original spin on this type of game, and the only limitation on spell casting being how fast you can draw them means you can be a better spellcaster if you're a faster player, which feels fair. Great idea, great execution on that idea!
I uploaded my play through of this to YouTube, I hope it’s useful to you in some way! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdDdT1rQiVo
Fun game. Love the pixel art. My two runs were 555s, 1902 kills, and 275s, 1973 kills. I never even saw this troll king I had to beat. It always ended with so many of the large monsters on screen there was nowhere left to run. Many spells felt useless, Hale spikes was decent until Flame breath was unlocked. The web build has an annoying tendency to start the mouse outside the drum rather than in the centre.

this was a lot of fun, really well put tougheter and whith an iconic ahestetic, well done
Cool idea and implementation of drawing symbols for spells. And I like this artstyle and music. It is really good affects the game atmosphere! Great work!
A really good game, but I found it too hard to cast a spell, and I think it's a bit far from the theme.
One of the spells was to large for me to attempt repeatedly with so many fast enemies, there's not really a safe space for it. I kinda get the feeling that's kinda the point though. Flame breath seems to be the best, since it actually does decent damage and can be spread around in a 360 arc.
Neat game with a great concept. The spellcasting mechanic was a highlight :) I did crash once or twice on casting a new spell I had just learned but those blips on the radar were nothing. I thoroughly enjoyed this game!
