Interesting concept, though it seems bugged for me. All icons are a square. I thought the game was bugged because rule 5 wasn't ever working, but looking at the screenshot, the issue is I can't tell what square is what fruit. Every fruit icon is just a square for mefruit.png

For diagnostics, I'm using Vivaldi as my browser.

brimthegoat 2023-10-01 19:43

I'm playing on Firefox and I didn't have the issue subsage had. This is as far as I got until I couldn't figure out where else to move my fruits! The missing fruits issue may have something to do with your fruit objects being emojis. Overall, the gameplay was enjoyable and I think you captured the limited space theme well. I'm also able to see the fruit icons in both Chrome and Edge on Windows 11. Also, I thought the gameplay was fun, the theme was well-utilized, and I loved that the game didn't need a tutorial or instructions because of how each step was introduced.

Nice puzzle game! I did not finish it. But i had fun. I don't know if it is expected behavior, but empty spaces count as a fruit in rule 19.

sevansevan 2023-10-01 23:16

That was very satisfying to beat.

Very good difficulty pacing, with a feeling of "I think I'll give up" at the end which makes the whole experience very satisfying.

I also made a puzzle game this jam and I would really enjoy discussing with you the ins and outs of how to approach the balancing and pacing of puzzles, if you're up to it!

deltatee 2023-10-01 23:28

Very fun game! Nice difficulty and finding the correct solutions feels really satisfying! Great puzzle design.

sarah-northway 2023-10-01 23:36

I love the design of this game, so simple and well presented, I had a blast.

Also thank you @nikor I see what the problem was here (blank spaces count as fruit).

Simple and really addictive to try to get the next batch of fruits. Difficulty was really high though and I got stuck at the end. Overall I really enjoyed your game. Nice work

I gave up after the grapes entered the field. Great concept!

txomin 2023-10-01 23:55

Really clean, well done! Im proud i got to the end (the game do work on mobile ๐Ÿ˜Ž)

247gamestudio 2023-10-01 23:59

Simple and fun, but starts to get pretty hard after level 22+, got stuck at 24. I'm not the best at puzzles that burn my brain, but this one is pretty cool and I enjoyed!

stmate03 2023-10-02 00:06

This game is very simple, yet elegant, frustrating yet so satisfying, well done for making such a fantastic game

uni-isnor 2023-10-02 00:08

That was hard, wth. But VERY good. Super snappy, great visuals, and easy to pick up.

pawel12 2023-10-02 00:09

I did it! It was very fun and challenging.

I like it! Like if "password game" was on a 2d grid instead of a textbox. Is there a name for this type of rules-following puzzle? I managed to beat it (not sure if I found every possible solution, there are a couple of swaps I can make from a solved state that keep it solved), but twice I ran into a bug where a fruit got deleted from the grid, which made me want to restart the game, but I couldn't find a way to do that without opening a new browser window.

soloadventurergames 2023-10-02 03:56

I love it .... but DAMN is it frustrating lol like playing with a toddler who keeps changing the rules of the game you're playing with them

tildecat 2023-10-02 06:19

Oh, very cool game! :) I love this logic grid gameplay.

haydads 2023-10-02 07:50

That is a very cool game! I thought of a similar concept, but you executed it so well! I liked the difficulty and challenge it provided with easy to understand instructions! Great submission!

bisnesspirate 2023-10-02 09:17

It was very enjoyable to play. But once I got to the grapes it was a little bit confusing. I thought I had fulfilled the requirement of the grapes having 4 neighbours. But it kept saying I didn't. Unsure if it was me being stupid or a weird bug I encountered.

cyber-puffin 2023-10-02 10:41

This was fun, but I got stuck pretty thoroughly. It would be good to highlight where the failure might be, as far as I could tell I was complying with the new "rule". I did find myself getting annoyed at "oh, another rule I didn't know about and am now violating."

endurion 2023-10-02 11:41

Holy damn! Impressive! :) >25. Congratulations! You've completed all the levels!<

Is there only one solution for the final?

Also, will rate properly once it properly works. Edit: Returned and rated!

decadedecaf 2023-10-02 12:52

Reminds me of The Password Game. I could get addicted to something like this. The execution of the concept was wonderful, great work!

madjackmcmad 2023-10-02 15:40

I surrendered at level 19 I think. Excellent take on The Password Game, good work!

kaimon 2023-10-02 16:29

Couldn't go after step 19, my brain is off after the jam, still a good take on The Password Game and really enjoyable, good job !

cymusi 2023-10-02 17:17

I got to 24 before I gave up :) Very cool game.

scolondev 2023-10-03 02:19

This was quite funny and reminds me of that password game that was popular a while back. I was able to get to this point before giving up. The rules just kept confusing the heck out of me, this a good puzzle game though! aea.png

mayple 2023-10-03 05:15

Nice little puzzle game! Got up to 24 before I kept messing everything up haha

andrei-gusan 2023-10-03 06:27

Nice puzzle. Would be nice to have visualization of the rule instead of text

crylica 2023-10-03 10:41

interesting puzzle game, the mechanics are really interesting. I think the theming could have been stronger, rather than just fruits (it doesn't seem intuitive, why can't pears be next to apples?) Maybe if it was animals, or something else (e.g. rabbit can't be next to wolf, etc) it would be more intuitive to remember the rules!

lcstark 2023-10-03 17:18

I was going to say that rule 24 had me beaten... But then I saw in Pawel12's comment that it is the final rule, so I kept going. And I made it!

fff.png

It's simple, but well made and definitely not easy. It has this addictive quality all good puzzle games should have. Several levels made think "OK, I'll try for a minute more then I give up", and when I found a solution I went "alright, just one more level".

And as for it being your first LD - well done on keeping the scope small enough for a game jam. If you choose to continue working on this one, I have an idea which you might want to consider: optional rules! E.g. add a rule 25 saying "A must be next to B" OR "C must be next to D" and the player can complete the level by adhering to one (or both) of them.

jesse-j-jones 2023-10-03 20:15

Really enjoyed this game! It was perfect for what it was! Really enjoyed the aspect of puzzles getting more complex because of a to-do list! Layout and graphics I felt suited the game very well. This is one I'll definitely be coming back to to try and get further! xD

byzilio 2023-10-03 20:36

Interesting

torte478 2023-10-04 16:15

Excellent submission! Congratulations on your first participation

tasakasama 2023-10-04 21:06

A great discovery, itโ€™s both simple and addictive, well done to you

2023-10-12 02:07

Nice entry!

Really like the way you capitalized on the small scope by doling it out one bite at a time.

It was confounding but fun to have a new rule land and invalidate my work so far, but that "well, okay, just a few tweaks" feeling was a nice vibe. I spent quite some time with this and got all 25 levels, but I'm not sure I should be proud of myself since I used only a little strategic planning and a lot of random fiddling. I was actually one move away from the solution for a while, trying something else, before it dawned on me.

Is it possible Rule 19 has a bug? I might have been brainmelted, but in this scenario, moving the pear on the bottom right as shown flipped the rule to pass, which I didn't follow: https://imgur.com/AnbxnWy

Really nice job. Not a ton of scope here, but what is present was maximized and streamlined. Perfect for a jam.
