neat layering of meanings of delivery. Love the music here!

ugly-robot 2023-05-01 01:00

@lathomas64 thanks! Haha yeah I choose which 'pun' for delivery to go with... so I did them all!

triangle-point 2023-05-01 02:59

This was a ton of fun really liked it. probably my favorite game so far. Great use of the theme great gameplay and just fun Great job! (:

ugly-robot 2023-05-01 05:17

@triangle-point Thank you so much! I'm very flattered :D Happy it brought you some fun!

firebelley 2023-05-01 18:54

Very fun! Movement felt pretty good, and I like how you mixed in different mechanics. I liked it!

fersyvanderzee 2023-05-01 18:58

Liked it! It keeps you playing till you are able to finish it! I especially liked the mood, you are actually on the edge of your seat whilst playing.

ugly-robot 2023-05-01 19:11

@firebelley Thank you! Yes, when programming it out, the addition of the punch and the dive/slide really made the game click.

@fersyvanderzee Thanks! Glad you were able to finish - well done!

unfinished632 2023-05-01 20:02

Very fun game! I coldn't get to the end tho(if there is an end). I really dig the mechanics and how you have to react fast enough to break the obstacles!

ugly-robot 2023-05-01 20:10

@unfinished632 thanks for trying it out! There is an end - but I certainly don't blame you, it can be pretty tough to make it there!

seurimas 2023-05-01 20:55

Well, he looks terrifying with bed head! The movement felt pretty good. I could imagine a full fledged game with similar gameplay would just need some animation adjustments. For a jam game, it's just fine, though. Good work!

klasw 2023-05-01 21:37

really nice game with wonderful controls! Nicely done! A 10/10 experience

lillatorp 2023-05-01 21:43

Liked the minimalist graphics that are almost a bit brutalist. The proportions between avatar and environment makes sets a really cool mood. Super simple but really good!

ugly-robot 2023-05-01 23:56

@seurimas haha very well put! And yes, I definitely struggle animations - learned alot this jam though. Thanks for playing!

@klasw Thank you! This jam I tried something new - step #1 on Friday night was to choose a color palette, even before I really knew what the game was. I didn't always stick to it, but it feels like an easy 'hack' to make the game feel a bit more wholistic and polished - without any real work. Glad someone noticed!

@lillatorp Thank you so much! Not to long ago, I got a manga called 'Blame!' that focus around an unending brutalist city - the origins of which the inhabitants have long forgotten. My game doesn't really "look" like the world of 'Blame!' at all - but maybe it has a hint of the same flavor. I didn't realize this until I read your comment! So thank you for that :D (Of course, the 'real reason' the buildings look the way they do - is that 2d boxes are easy! Haha - but I'm glad it has a bit of emotionality.)

dishwand 2023-05-02 02:57

i don't think this game is rushed or ugly at all! you've got great polished visuals and a very competent set of platformer controls. the way moves combo into and out of each other is very thoughtful and actually works really well! i think my main feedback would be the camera / level design -- i didn't see it through to the end after a couple deaths. but you should be proud, this is a really impressive little runner :)

ugly-robot 2023-05-02 03:50

@dishwand thank you! I'm flattered. Yeah level design is definitely a muscle I need to flex more. I'm glad you were able to get a sense for how to combo with the move set! Thanks for playing

brandon-campbell 2023-05-02 05:22

This game is WILD. Delivering babies, but from hell!? It's very fun to play. The controls and movement combos are super satisfying. The game has that thing that makes you want to try over and over again. I really enjoyed it.

jimmybobb 2023-05-02 06:08

Well done! Amazing achievement for such little time. The game is fun to play, looks good and is very atmospheric. It was taking all my brainpower to not use space as jump however :D. Congratulations on a solid submission!

manmantas 2023-05-02 08:04

Loved it! The art style fits the humor really well and everything is super readable. The gameplay is extremely smooth but a bit hard to get into the groove and at points it felt like not enough time to react to obstacles while I was diving to my death. But overall loved the experience.

nicso 2023-05-02 14:55

Really well done

I had some issues at first due to the fact that i'm used to jump with space but that's totaly on my side 😉

loved the animation and the fact that it's speed is driven by your own speed, nice touch

also liked the option directly integrated in the game

Nice work 👍

ugly-robot 2023-05-02 17:41

@brandon-campbell That makes me very happy to hear! Yeah this was my first jam game that I did not get bored of while testing, haha, a little bit of the 'speed-run-ability'. Also, I loved 'Delivery Champ' - funny to think both of us were making little pixel-art-babies this weekend haha!

@manmantas yeah I struggled with having the camera pull back far enough to see what was coming up, but not so much you lose 'precision' on where your character was. I think you are right, though - I left it a bit too pushed in, or I should have re-balanced the jumps and whatnot after to accommodate. Good lessons for next jam! Thank you again for playing and your kindly worded feedback!

@nicso and @jimmybobb Thank you both! - and you both are definitely right, I should've laid out the controls differently. My S.O. was having the same trouble - but then switched to controller, and was able to get into the groove. Next time, I will leave space to jumping! Thank you for playing!

Also @nicso good spot on the animation speed - it was subtle, and though nobody would notice. You have a keen eye!

paulajulija 2023-05-02 17:52

super fun game, made me want to finish it. Satisfying controls, maybe graphics could use a bit more, but everything is super clear, what to press and how to play it.

made3 2023-05-02 18:41

The fast paste is really great and the mechanics are just enough to not get bored. The only thing I also struggled with, but was already named, was that I am used to space being the jump button. But I got used to it quite fast

ugly-robot 2023-05-02 21:15

@paulajulija thanks! Yeah I am definitely no artist, but it is nice to play around with new styles. Thank you for playing!

@made3 Haha thanks, glad you got the hang of it. Maybe next jam I'll have to see how hard custom keymapping is...

obe-dot 2023-05-03 00:17

Interesting game idea, fun to play.

ugly-robot 2023-05-03 02:03

@obe-dot Thank you! I loved Delivery! NYC - two chaotic city games!

yoddaa 2023-05-03 16:52

very cool game. also the movement. good job

ugly-robot 2023-05-03 18:03

@yoddaa thanks! I appreciate it

zungryware 2023-05-04 00:48

Fun runner-type game! I got to 4 souls and 22/26 city blocks. The kick and punch were both satisfying to pull off and combo off of each other. The jumping mechanics felt pretty smooth as well. I would have appreciated adjustable-height jumping, but that could trivialize the movement a bit. It was satisfying to get just a little bit farther each time.

My notes: - Bind a gamepad button to restart so I don't have to lean back forward and click it with the mouse. - Please support movement with the D-Pad. I much prefer that for sidescrolling platformers. - Since you can't control your jump height, there are a lot of blind jumps that arise from jumping too high to see the ground below you. It's not so bad since I realized later than you can use the punch to stop your downward movement, but it's still good to avoid blind jumps. - I hate having to restart all the way back at the tutorial for the 16th time just to retry a section way ahead. I definitely would have been more willing to try beat the game if there were checkpoints. Not even that many. Just two or three.

ugly-robot 2023-05-04 00:53

@zungryware Excellent feedback! I agree with each and all of your notes. Thank you for taking the time to play, and the time to offer some great suggestions. I am glad someone was able to give a go with controller - and d-pad support especially is something I totally missed, I will absolutely keep that in mind going forward. Thanks!

neo97 2023-05-04 00:55

UGLY GAME

VERY FUN

Kept me engaged for a while. Nice work.

terquey 2023-05-04 02:32

That was sick! Reminds me of old flash runners like Canabalt! Controls were a little confusing, had some trouble mentally detaching jump from space, but once I got it it was smooth sailing. Starting back at the tutorial is definitely a little bit rough, a checkpoint (or something along those) just before the first baby would make it a little nicer I think. Other than that though, that was some sweet work!

zwodahs 2023-05-04 08:58

Screenshot 2023-05-04 at 4.55.45 PM.png I tried at least 10 minutes to get pass 3, but it is really hard.

There are few section that is really punishing. I was hoping for random levels but I guess that was asking too much.

Congrats on the submission ;) and thanks for the game.

olddog 2023-05-04 09:33

funny game,I like this game so much ,controll feelings are wirld, but design is good, good job

moebiusmeow 2023-05-04 09:35

Amazing character animation! This is my first time to see such well-polished animations in a compo game.

The extra jump combo after breaking a crate makes the control even better. Nice work! ^^

20230504172727.png

falk-hoeppner 2023-05-04 13:49

The controls take some getting used to, but it is clear that a lot of thought and love went into the character controller for this game. That paired with the animations for main character made for a very polished interaction with the game (even though it is ugly as sin :P)

oddballdave 2023-05-04 14:32

This is an enjoyable little romp. It started off giving me Canabalt vibes, but it's definately got more complexity to it than that. I kept getting the keys mixed up in my head and that seemed to be my downfall on most runs. There's some interesting graphical choices. But in the main a great entry.

Good stuff :8ball:

zefphyer 2023-05-05 02:21

Interesting concept! Mechanics are interesting as well. It's a little too easy to just mess up in my opinion, and it would be nice to be able to cancel some of the longer actions. But I managed to beat it eventually so those are just nitpicks. Pulled off the creepy-weird sounds for the demon well too.

I'm not sure I get what's going on though hahah

firespike33 2023-05-06 09:46

I only managed to save 4 souls. Hard but pretty fun. I feel like the giant demon thing takes too long to catch up for most of the game, and when he finally does catch up you're basically screwed. Making him faster when he's far away but slow down a bit when he gets close to you could possibly lead to more tense moments while giving you a better chance to escape. Also his killbox is kinda unclear.

Couple of minor things: Not really a fan of down on D-pad doing the dive kick since it already has its own button and accidentally hitting down got me killed at one point. Music should be much louder by default.

snakemuho 2023-05-07 19:45

hell yeah I love animation canceling

thomaslebel 2023-05-08 17:31

Nice tweak on the classical runner genre :) It feels a bit rough when trying to catch a baby, but maybe i'm just terrible ahah

ugly-robot 2023-05-14 02:55

@neo97 haha thanks! Love my ugly. And I already said it before - but it bears repeating, love you music, certified bangers

@terquey Thank you! Yeah, definitely had some old-flash-game nostalgia in my blood when coding it. Definitely need to work on my control schemes, but hopefully getting a little better each jam! And yeah, I toyed with checkpoints just before each baby - only a little too late into Sunday to make it work. Thank you for the feedback! Cool to see what is most important to folks

@zwodahs 3 is very good! It is definitely a tough game. Well done! It was originally random, but I make it more linear to lower the difficulty haha - or atleast an attempt to. Thank you for playing!

ugly-robot 2023-05-14 03:09

@olddog thank you! I appreciate you playing

@moebiusmeow I appreciate the complement! Thank you very much for your feedback - made my day! Great job on getting to the end! Well done!

@falk-hoeppner thank you!! I'm normally terrible with animations - I definitely tried my best here. Still not perfect by any means, and as always, a little ugly ;3

ugly-robot 2023-05-14 03:31

@oddballdave Thank you! Yeah - controls need more work for sure, but I'm glad I was able to squeeze in a little bit of movement complexity. All my visual choices end up 'interesting' haha. Thanks for playing!

@zefphyer I'm not sure I get what's going on either! Haha - but I'm glad you were able to beat it. Well done! No easy feat. Thanks!

@firespike33 4 souls is very good! Well done. He actually does exactly what you say, haha - but definitely the 'lava' becomes the main enemy, just because I did not balance well enough. Frankly, looking back - I'm not sure there should have been lava at all, maybe just the delay as you have to jump back up. Again, all lessons for next time. Thanks for the feedback!

ugly-robot 2023-05-14 03:32

@snakemuho well done! Excellent job 100% the game!

@thomaslebel thank you haha - catching is definitely hard, but it's just for style points (and to save time) - they land on the ground just fine. Thank you for playing!

bluedandelion 2023-05-17 19:00

This was a great entry for a compo. The controls felt great and the big goat monster or whatever the hell that is is really cool and scary.

ugly-robot 2023-05-18 18:45

@bluedandelion 'whatever the hell" indeed, haha! Glad you enjoyed it - thank you for your comment!

linus-lindberg 2023-05-19 10:05

Gameplay feels very fast and fluid! Music could use some more variation.

ugly-robot 2023-05-20 02:14

@linus-lindberg Thank you! And yes - I agree. Music is always tough for me, being in the compo. I really don't compose outside of jams, haha, maybe I should do some practice now! Thank you for your feedback and for playing!
