Really excellent submission! So far its the best game i played. The bugs were a little hard to control, but i guess thats par for the course when you're attempting to control bugs. I found that the game is a lot more managable when i sent a few bugs in advance, harvested as much as i could, and then used the remainder to plow through everything.

The game was fun enough that i wanted to play until the end and beat the Capital level, great work!

Wow, the 3d modelling and texturing is fantastic! Very impressive! I haven't seen very many line-drawing RTS games. Usually it's drag to select, then click once to move. Good job taking a risk on innovative controls. The pheromone trails fit the motif perfectly.

I. ATE. EVERYTHING.

FEAR MY BUGNADO!

Great job, I really like the control mechanic, like laying down pheromones.

Great Teamwork, cool game with a lot of content for this short timespan. While i like the idea of the swarm just consuming everything i often felt it was easier going with individual bugs or small groups, avoid the weapons and just eat the biomass. My larger groups were two hard to control and every stride i lost like half of them because they got stuck on a wall or where just standing around in the middle of nowhere :joy: Its super hard to keep all of them together, idk if thats by design. I still enjoyed it, good job

Oh boy a RTS game in a jam ! And well done on top of that !! Super Pretty Awesome Well Done Game !!! I like it

Moving by dragging mouse instead of clicking on a position feels original, I have no rts game in my knowledge doing that.

These towers and the music soundtrack reminds me a lot of 'Warcraft 3' haha.

This is defintely the game of my heart for this jam  . Good job on this entry and great work to all of you ! :tada:

FOR THE SWARM !!!! :bug:

Saw this on stream and had to play, it's Amazing! ^^ exactly my kind of thing, somehow manages to be unique and still feels familiar to play. One of my favourites i've played this jam, I'd play a full game with this mechanic. Great work! ^^

Hard to control but the little buggers ate up everything without even destroying a tower. Balancing out tower defence like game mechanics is a challenge in a jam. (if not impossible) Love the concept and with some polish this could make for a fun little title.

Delightfully unique and a fun take on a reverse tower defense. Love playing as these little bugs and the drag mechanic gave a great feel of coaxing the creatures to do what you want rather than command them despite the occasional frustration at getting them around some corners. Had a great time would love to play more!

Awesome idea! Turn around tower defence. Gameplay is nice! I don't like control bugs. It's very difficult for me. Graphics is well. Good job!

Very good concept! I can feel the zergings spirit here :D

Game

Your gameplay is the same as the one of [Sea Salt](https://store.steampowered.com/app/983350/Sea_Salt/), but with much better controls! I like it a lot, but both games suffer from the same problems, for example that controlling large swarms is frustrating, while it should feel empowering!

Small complaint about controls: I would've appreciated dragging with the middle mouse click, in addition to the right mouse click, it feels a lot more natural and similar to an RTS...

The atmosphere was great, and I feel like the game fit the theme very well!

Good job!

Distribution

Thanks for **providing a HTML5 build**! Since I am playing on Linux, I appreciated it!

Great art I love the bugs :D, There is a massive amount done here, the minimap was great and it ran amazingly well

Thanks for submitting your game on the stream! Here’s the start of your game if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts youtu.be/OTjgGbVpf7g?t=6938

Great entry, really enjoyed playing! Congrats on making an RTS with so many levels in such a short time!

chompdev 2023-01-15 06:16

This is a very cool RTS/tactics idea! Reminds me a bit of Myth crossed with Starcraft. I like being able to scroll around and/or use the minimap to see the potential routes and grain patches before making my first move. I also really like the option to swarm a few towers if needed, while not having enough bugs to destroy everything in your path. The dragging/pheromone concept is really neat, and while it can be a bit tricky to move around corners sometimes, it generally works well for smaller groups. Very nice work on quite a unique jam entry! :)

Really like the game. Visuals are great, gameplay wise it's fun. Waiting for a Steam release!

someone 2023-01-15 17:24

That was great. Interesting mechanics and a good amount of polish. Good job making all those levels too. While swarming was fun, I did find it worked much better to sneak past with a single bug to munch all the crops. The swarms would be constantly be getting stuck on corners, and I had trouble getting them to attack the turrets. Sometimes they would and sometimes they would just stand next to the turret and get squished. Could do with a victory screen, and perhaps a clearer next mission button. When they were all unlocked I wasn't certain I had done the last one or not.

I've always wanted to command a swarm of bugs to devour wheat and destroy weaponry! This is a cool and unique twist on traditional tower-defense gameplay that I got a lot of enjoyment out of! I just wish we could've seen the aftermath of the swarm's feast

dans17 2023-01-15 23:54

This was a really interesting game, and I had fun playing every level! Making functional RTS controls that manage to pretty fun as well is an impressive feat for a jam game, but one small improvement I would suggest is the ability to change the size of your phermones placement, which might make it easier to control larger swarms.

caranha 2023-01-16 13:12

Ah, nice idea, controlling insects with pheromones! I really dig it the controls, and I hope you keep fine tuning it! I really enjoyed painting the map!

Maybe some hot keys for locations would help trying to control many separate swarms at the same time? Or maybe if the insects had a little bit of self-direction (like attacking towers and food that is *really* close, but you could use the pheromones to cancel their instincs.

But you got a really cool idea here!

chase-of-bass 2023-01-16 17:43

This was really fun!! I liked the story -and the way you used pheromones to move them was really cool!

The maps were really well designed and fun to try to get close enough to the turrets with as little damage as possible. Had a lot of fun playing this!

Also the graphics were fantastic too -really nice job on this!

johnnysix 2023-01-25 21:33

Very cool game, really loved controlling the bugs, Very polished stuff. If you work on a bigger version post-compo, it'd be good to see more types of bug ( and tower  ).

I was full expecting just another tower defense game but this was unique. It'd be cool to be able to zoom in/out with mouse wheel maybe, and to have more accuracy of the pheromone trail in the way they walk / follow the cursor?

Great stuff!

zungryware 2023-01-25 23:31

Nice little RTS game! Great 3D models and texture work. Everything was easy to classify and munching up fields of wheat was satisfying.

The controls felt nice for the most part; I liked using the line-drawing to lead the insects. I did find it to be a bit trying sometimes though, since I would often draw a line only for a small section of the hive to not follow in with the rest, or for a clump of bugs to stop part way through following the path. And because the camera is so zoomed in with no way (that I could find) to zoom it out more, I had to draw many lines which meant I was losing bugs left and right. I could herd them back in, but that would often mean letting my main group be a sitting duck for a few seconds.

I enjoyed the strategy. Scoping out the map and deciding which way to take my hive first to clear out various towers. Or judging which towers even need to be destroyed. Sometimes I just sent a small squad of bugs to nab a field of wheat and run. I wish you had made more "if A then B" type sections. There was one bit where I decided to go up a hill to take out a tower so it wouldn't be bombing me in a later section. I wish there had been a bit more of that sort of thing to make routing more interesting.

Just when I got comfortable with the idea of splitting the swarm into two sub-swarms to do two separate tasks, I got to the last level which put a stop to all of that. Because there's no way to zoom out, I can't really control two swarms at once. If I ever leave a swarm alone while I control a different one, it will be dead when I get back because of the long-range cannons that can fire from across the map. There's no safe place I can leave a swarm, so the best strategy seems to be to go forward, eat a bunch of crops, walk *all* the way back to collect the new guys I just hatched, then walk all the way back *again* to destroy the next line of towers. So that level was a bit arduous.

But those nitpicks aside, I had a lot of fun! Great work!

Very polished art and experience. I found the scent trail control scheme a little bit frustrating, but definitely interesting and new!
