Very cool and nice looking. Wish I had a gamepad to play with

keip 2023-01-09 21:43

Hello, very nice game, the graphics are well done and that you can see what you are missing is great. The music is annoying after half an hour :D the rest of the sounds are quite well done. That the player can move further forward when he makes an attack is funny. (he then glides across the floor), but that does not diminish the fun of the game. The controls took some getting used to. Took me a bit of time to get the hang of it. And that the melee fighters do not run is a pity, but I can understand. Walkcycles are a lot of work. The jumppassages are hard. I did not finish it. I just can't get to the middle island on the ships. Very good game. Good work. Thank you.

diccuric-sigeon 2023-01-10 08:09

Screenshots look cool, but i don't have windows to play it.

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-10 08:13

@diccuric-sigeon there is a Linux version

chybby 2023-01-10 08:30

I like the level design - nice verticality.

The controls were a little difficult since I'm used to going the direction the camera is facing when pressing forward.

I had to stop after the first area which took me ~20 minutes.

kingpotatocannon 2023-01-10 08:32

Controls are pretty hard to get used.

Can tell a lot of thought and creativity went into the art and level design! Cool concept and nice use of clouds and jump pads!

diccuric-sigeon 2023-01-10 08:51

@tricky-fat-cat how did you know that Linux, not Mac? Cool graphics, and enemies animation. but i can't rate it. it's not your? but evening mood also nice. Control is strange. Usually player moves forward by camera. Not himself. But I can get used to it.

enad96 2023-01-10 09:09

Good old Goblo and I go way back, we met in priest school before he had a change of career and starting working for the dark lord. He did always have an affinity for red liquorice so I saw it coming from a mile away. Nice guy though, the type of person who would hold the door open for you before following you home and harvesting your soul.

superpokeunicorn 2023-01-10 09:09

Really cool that you made such a large game in only 72 hours! It's simple, but there's a lot to explore. The tank controls are a bit unfortunate, but I enjoyed my time with this game regardless. Nice work!

kenneth-dd 2023-01-10 09:15

that's very well made! fun is every where! and there are a hour long worth of collectables. however, as many said, i need to get used to the control for a while. but after that, it's a very fun platformer theme park! i didn't finish the game though, quitted at the islands on the edge of the map, where i need to wait for the boats.

pitisek 2023-01-10 10:46

Unfortunately cursor does not lock and looking around is limited to something like 30 degrees left and right, so pretty much unplayable :( (I'm trying to run the game in Windows Sandbox). Please let me know if this is fixed. I will not rate the game for now since I did not experience it just yet.

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-10 10:48

@chybby thank you for playing. Yes, first 2 levels are quite long, we will change the level order in a post jam version

@kingpotatocannon thank you

@diccuric-sigeon you didn't say that you have Mac. Unfortunately, we can't make a Mac build. :( Talking of visuals, they're from packs, that's why we opted out the art.

@enad96 ahah, much appreciated

@superpokeunicorn thank you for playing

@kenneth-dd thank you. We will change the order of the levels later

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-10 10:49

@pitisek what OS do you use?

pitisek 2023-01-10 11:01

@tricky-fat-cat Windows 11 and running the game in Sandbox

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-10 12:42

@pitisek interesting behavior, because mouse cursor is actually locked and works well. Haven't tested this in Sandbox

asfdfdfd 2023-01-10 20:27

Great level design as you'd expect from Titled Goose Team!

she-wrote 2023-01-10 20:36

Interesting use of the theme. The movement controls are a bit hard to learn, but the originality is nice; The world is cool to explore. I like it! Well done!

therealjtgill 2023-01-10 21:28

Every day I'm gobblin'.

Things I liked:

- The graphics are *spectacular* - The game feel is very consistent between assets and audio - Running around the world and collecting coins is satisfying (after figuring out the tank controls) - I never felt confused about where I could or could not go in the map - there was a very intuitive feel to the design of the level I (partially) played

Things I noticed:

The first level is big. Like, really big. Like overwhelmingly big. Big to the point where, as one person participating in a game jam, it feels like I'm going to be incapable of rating the game because I won't be able to play it through to the end. I don't know about other players here, but my expectations for game jam games is that they can be played through in less than 15 or 20 minutes. A mini map or hint arrows for objectives would streamline the player experience significantly.

Thank you for the view!

ld52_gobol.PNG

pomo 2023-01-11 01:32

way too small a game, I know is a jam but you gotta try to have a bit more content

picross 2023-01-11 01:55

Really pretty game and very fun! I love collectathons. The tank controls took some getting used to, and sometimes it was tricky to figure out what buttons did, but it was really good. Holy cow there's a lot of content, I think I played for over an hour!

yamzho 2023-01-11 13:40

This was a very well made game, with a lot of polish, quite a lot of content for a jam.

The only complain I have is with the controls. It feels weird to me that the camera does not stay behind the character. It took a while for me to get along with it.

But apart from that, I really enjoyed playing your game.

Well done !

riesyeti 2023-01-11 13:42

I think most people would have told you guys to stop when hearing of the size and scope of the game but the problem is: you guys actually did it.

A large 3D world collectathon with collectibles, puzzles, enemies, bosses, mechanics, gimmicks, good coherent graphics. I am shocked by both how big and how actually good and fun this is. And all that in 3 days! This is insane!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-11 17:01

@therealjtgill thank you for your feedback. Agree the first level is too big and a little bit too barren. The third and fourth levels are much better as starting ones. We will fix in the post-jam version.

@pomo next time we will provide you with a game with buttons which do nothing and it'll take about 8 hours to beat it. We'll call it "Click On Default Unreal Button".

@picross Thank you for playing!

@yamzho thank you. Yeah, the controls are really nasty. On the other hand they bring some old-school charm.

@riesyeti thank you for playing. We used my personal collection of plugins for rapid prototyping, which helps to avoid creating a lot of standard stuff you can find in games. Assets aren't ours, that's why we opted out art. In addition, the majority of the team are seasonal jammers and actual game developers.

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-11 22:40

@asfdfdfd thank you for playing!

@she-wrote thank you!

mhorth 2023-01-12 03:09

The level design feels professional here. There's usually a feel in the quality of these jam games where you can tell an amateur developer made it in a couple of days. Not here, the aesthetics feel perfect, very very good world building. I couldn't get comfortable with the controls to get very far in the game, but it looks like your team is aware and already has plans to change them.

One super minor thing I can offer, since I've seen Tricky_Fat_Cat's posts about having prototype plugins... The buttons on the pause menu are blocked by the text. If I hover my mouse over the text itself, I cannot click the button. I have to hover over the background image of the button. No big deal at all, definitely not game breaking. But that could help improve your plugins for next time.

hawkin 2023-01-12 04:25

Such an expansive world! There was a lot to explore, and it felt like every area had its own sort of challenge. Props to the level designer(s).

The controls were a little disjointed, but they definitely had that retro vibe. I feel like it would have worked a bit better on the gamepad, dual joystick style. I tried and didn't think there was support? Combat didn't feel as satisfying as it could have. Maybe because the enemies were more or less static?

Anyway, such a large team! I'd be really interested to hear how you manage the work between everyone -- maybe a blog post?

splitpainter 2023-01-12 18:24

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful visuals as always from your team :) Impressive big world and cool sound effects. Unfortunately, the controls drove me _crazy_ hahah. Anyway I managed to play it quite far. You guys should maybe expand this and consider releasing it as a full commercial game. Very promising!

aendawyn 2023-01-12 18:26

Don't know why, but game is like hyper slow on my laptop :/ (using Windows) Not lagguy, but juste slow. So i can't rate your game, it's quite unplayable. If you want some info about my conf/other things, or want me to test something, don't hesitate !

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-12 18:57

@aendawyn it would be great to know your setup. And here is an experimental build, could you check it? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PzpAQB2hz5ZyS2VeZQKQvBj1x48YE90U/view?usp=share_link

dannyk1994 2023-01-12 19:04

Such a fantastic looking game! Great visuals and great puzzle design. Reminded me alot of Spyro and N64 puzzle games like that. Well done. Loved the character design also!

aendawyn 2023-01-12 19:07

@tricky-fat-cat experimental build is much better ! Thanks

Fyi, my setup: - AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics, 3201 MHz, 8 cores, 16 logical cores - 16Go of RAM - Windows 11 Family Edition - Resolution 2520 x 1680 - HDR On - Windows scale display 125%

If that can help to understand why it works with experimentam ;)

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-12 19:12

@aendawyn is the game playable now? Could you check video memory usage?

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-12 19:20

@aendawyn I've uploaded a new post-jam version with changes, I hope it's much better for you.

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-12 19:32

@mhorth thank you for playing, we fixed controls, level order and the buttons in the post-jam version.

@hawkin thanks. Unfortunately we didn't have any gamepad support. I believe that the main problem with enemies is a ranged attack, which allows easily cheesing enemies. Talking about management. We are seasonal jammers and half of the team are actual game developers.

@splitpainter thank you for playing! Looking forward to see the release of your game.

@dannyk1994 much appreciated

minakorii 2023-01-12 23:51

I love the mood and the design of the game I wish I had more control on the camera tho

j0ye 2023-01-13 10:08

Wow, this is a lot. The game looks fantastic and feels incredible, huge for an LDJam game. I feel like it is a bit too big for the people that are just flying in to rate their 20 games and see what the others have done. But this does not take away from how well this game already looks and feel. There was a lot I loved. Like the counters for the collectables and the easy to beat enemies. The only thing that could have improved this, would be to give the player more options for movement. It's a big world, it would be great if it would be more quick to explore it.

his-the-unknown-painter 2023-01-13 11:56

LOVE IT! The sound track's so awsome! and the animation about characters are so soomth and really fity. control is kinda hard to move it and score images, In game score object is so diffrent, it hard to to recognize.

Except for that, it was a good game! I can tell! Thanks for made this game! Cheers!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-13 20:01

@minakorii thank you for playing. We changed camera controls in the post-jam version, you can check it.

@j0ye thanks, in the post-jam version we changed the order of levels to make sure that people can play shorter levels. Fortunately, you don't need to finish all levels.

@his-the-unknown-painter thanks for playing, you should try a post-jam version with better controls.

katamary 2023-01-13 20:46

Nice game but controls is too hard. I really spent too much time before I complete adopted to the controls. Nevertheless the game is looks polished well. Good luck!

silentplaygames 2023-01-14 15:33

Fun and cute game. Loved the levels, music and main character!

sakura-magika 2023-01-15 09:30

wow, there is a /lot/ of content here, and it looks darn good too! great work making mario 64 with evil skellies and evil goblo all in just a jam!

i ran into a few input issues, like goblo not attacking when i click, or walking for a while after releasing the button (on the patched version).

other than that, my main frustration was not knowing how to kill the big skellies with shields for the longest time, until i accidentally discovered the ranged attack (nope, didnt read the tutorial). maybe this wasnt intentional, but i tried hitting them with many melee attacks and they just wouldn't die. a single ranged attacked did the job though. it felt kind of arbitrary that melee does nothing against them?

anyways, this was really cute and fun! made it near the top of world 2, found several purple stars, but then fell all the way down and got sad.

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-15 13:14

@katamary thank you for playing

@silentplaygames much appreciated

@kuviman thank you so much for the stream

@sakura-magika thanks for playing. We didn't do any visuals, that's why we opted out art.

fatpenguin 2023-01-15 19:08

Wow what an amazing entry! You created so much content in such a short time and on top of that in such a high quality. The leveldesign is highly professional and the main character looks great (these holes in the ears :heart:)!

I always tried to get everything in every level but in the third level (I'm pretty sure it was the third but maybe it was the fourth level) I was very frustrated with one of the coins. There was a blue floating platform that traveled along a line of coins. By standing on the platform, I collided with all coins and therefore collected all coins - except for one measly coin! I tried moving, jumping even some suicide attempts but couldn't get it. Maybe the players speed is too high while on the platform for the coin to be collected? It wouldn't have bugged me so much if I didn't like the entry so much^^

So except for this one coin I very much enjoyed your entry! Very good! Thanks for your entry.

xandruher 2023-01-15 22:19

Really nice Entry. The graphics are really good. Nice to see bigger teams participating and bringing out such a game. I miss the credits. I always like to see who worked on which part of the game esp. on bigger teams.

mika314 2023-01-15 23:55

The game has a massive level, multiple mobs, clean graphics, catchy music, nice sound effects, but controllers are stilling all the fun.

matthew-lie 2023-01-16 11:12

Awesome graphics and level design. And also great sound effect of "magic" attack

milq 2023-01-16 15:08

What an awesome game! It is incredible how so many people have organized themselves and make this product so well finished in such a short time. The only thing that is strange to me is not being able to configure the graphics, the sensitivity of the mouse, etc. But it's because it's so good that I miss it. I hope you guys make a longer version of this game and see how many Whislist gets on Steam, but I'm sure a lot. Congratulations, seriously!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-16 17:25

@fatpenguin thank you for playing. All models are from asset packs, this is the main reason why we opted out art. We don't have any 3D artist in our team.

@xandruher much appreciated. Well, didn't have time to create proper credits in the project description.

@mika314 thank you for playing.

@matthew-lie thanks!

@milq this game is Ludum Dare exclusive. The majority of us work in game development, and don't have time to work on an actual indie game.

xandruher 2023-01-16 18:00

@tricky-fat-cat thanks for your reply! as a little hobby 3d artist myself I was interested esp. in the Artist Credits :D

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-16 18:10

@xandruher we don't have any artist in the team. All assets are from 3 different asset packs we tried to utilize as much as we can.

chispalbc 2023-01-17 11:10

Looks good and the level design is really good! I did struggle with the A/D turn left/right but you can get used to it. Everything works relatively well and it's well polished. I think you all make a great team ^^

(also i've been following @tricky-fat-cat on twitter for a while and finding you here feels weird u.u)

tweekstudios 2023-01-17 14:20

Goblo looks great. The graphics on this game are a delight! They're so comfy, quaint and miniturey! Are you sure this isn't a fully released game already? Hehe

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-17 17:12

@chispalbc thank you for playing. Not sure why it's weird, I'm a seasonal jammer here!

@tweekstudios thanks. Indeed, the game isn't good enough to be called a full game.

geckoo1337 2023-01-19 19:16

What an amazing game! At first, the main aesthetic impressed me. The gameplay is fun and reminds me of Crash Bandicoot. I forgot how it is fun to burp :) All works well as expected, but sometimes I noticed some colliders bug on boxes or other elements. The peruvian flute music is gorgeous. I cannot say that your game fits with the theme, but there is something about collecting coins. It's good for me... For a game made in less than 3 days, this is not really important. I think that you HAVE to continue this development so as to create a really good universe with its creatures and atmosphere. I wish you the best ++

hayricakir 2023-01-21 00:19

Nice concept, great art but controls feels a bit weird, it is hard for me to get used to it. That may be because I'm not familiar with platformer controls, idk. Other than that, very cool game mate!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-22 14:56

@geckoo1337 thank you for playing!

@hayricakir thank you.

dock-frankenstein 2023-01-25 20:26

Controlls were rather poor. It took way too long to reach maximum speed, that wasn't even that fast. Attacking or using any attack also takes way too long and feels unresponsive. The only responsive thing was the jump, which felt quite nice.

Graphics were also quite a disappointment. Better lighting would have probably saved the game for me. Models seem good though.

But aside from that, it was kinda enjoyable. Good job

honest-dan 2023-01-25 20:28

Hey Tricky! I enjoyed my time with Goblo! He was a cute little boy and the world you put together was interesting to explore. You did good on your first 3D platformer, it generally felt good to control and camera was fine (post jam version). I liked how many different things you added to the game for the platforming - like the clouds, bounce pads, moving platforms, spinny things! The enemies felt a little bit out of place in the world, and also wasn't super clear why certain attacks were needed vs certain enemy types. For the time, you lot did fab!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-27 18:32

@dock-frankenstein thank you for playing.

@honest-dan much appreciated your stream.
