Sadly, when I try to run the 1.0.1 version it gives me an error of being unable to be run on my PC (Windows 10).

save-sloth-studios 2022-10-04 18:28

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me either:(

alpalcalad 2022-10-04 18:33

really creative take on the theme- was rly cool to play! Given its time pressured it would be nice to have a pause screen but thats a minor complaint given time constraints. Good job :P

henrik-ganard 2022-10-04 19:43

I sadly don“t have Mac or Linux machines at hand and couldent find the WebGL-version. If there is WebGL-support, can you please point me in the right direction? The game looks great.

wolderado 2022-10-04 20:51

@jirrev @save-sloth-studios @henrik-ganard Sorry! Looks like the build files got corrupted. I'm having trouble rebuilding the game but I had a backup build. I've uploaded that to itch io. Can you try downloading the game from itch or from this page? I hope it works now

save-sloth-studios 2022-10-05 07:48

I hope this rocky start doesn't affect your game too much, it was really wonderful to play! Really nice idea, I always like these 4th wall breaking games that make fun of their owen genres. Maybe some of the jokes were a bit too obvious and played out, but the absurd humor of the core game is there!

Absolutely great art too! I got the bad ending the first try, as I got extremely lost at the end, and virtually had no idea where I just was. But that also fits the genre, and I still felt some kind of direction at least, unlike if I were playing Daggerfall for example haha. Also the fact that there *is* a bad ending is really reassuring, I feared I were destined to roam these similar looking halls for minutes on end before quitting in frustration.

Hope in the future you could expand it a little bit, maybe give it some sound effects! But for the jam it's a really really great entry. Congrats!

wolderado 2022-10-05 12:03

@save-sloth-studios Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

roroto-sic 2022-10-05 21:16

i had the more simple ending i guess(4/4) dead by spikes after i was looking for gold to give to the naked monster blocking path outside the castle. well done you really managed to give that retro aesthetic !!

witchpixels 2022-10-06 02:55

Navigation can be a bit challenging, but loved what you did with the theme!

robobarbie 2022-10-06 05:47

Wow that was really well put together! I loved the graphics and how the difficulty ramped up as time went on (but wasn't unfair). Well designed gameplay and a fun story!

chase-of-bass 2022-10-06 08:22

This was awesome! Really impressive jam game! Loved the writing -had me laughing a lot. Really cool idea and great use of the theme -really created a sense of urgency and the time/missing parts made navigating the mazes that much more difficult -really fun! Fantastic work on this!! :D

mr-deku 2022-10-06 09:41

Neat concept! Good choice of aesthetics and fluid controls! Although, I have missed some other mechanics apart from walking, I'm sure you had a lot of ideas but of course, no time! Really good job!

harry-alissavakis 2022-10-06 13:22

Well this was such a treat! Really awesome game, impressive amount of content and depth and overall a great experience! Some audio would be cool to set the mood and it'd be less confusing if you spawned outside the door you just went through, though I can imagine that you're just loading the scenes so the spawn position is set.

Nevertheless, the game was great and really fun! Really enjoyed the dialogues and overall dialogue script too. Well done!

savolae 2022-10-06 19:39

Very cool idea and wonderful execution! Navigating started to get hard after most of the walls had been deleted  got a good ending on my first playthrough and I'm interested to see what the other ones are!

kr4ft3r 2022-10-07 01:15

Amazing that you made all this, graphics included. I love the NPC humor.

It's kind of sad when you think about it, all those worlds that got deleted forever just because they weren't popular enough for someone to bother porting them. The same thing might happen with us.

mateu 2022-10-07 01:50

Wow this is so good! There is so much crammed into this little game, and it's honestly so impressive. I only did one ending, (good 2/4) but the fact that you managed to cram four into this is so awesome. The world really did feel like it was changing around you which added a lot to the intensity. The graphics are very nice. Everything felt super cohesive and looked good. I only have 3 minor gripes. 1. Backtracking was super confusing. Lots of the rooms looked pretty similar, especially when the world was falling apart. Having a distinguishing feature per room would have been nice (which, yeah you did do. Trees, lava, water, sewer, etc.) It still felt confusing, but maybe it was just me. 2. The lack of audio was kinda disappointing, but considering you did this by yourself and intended it to be a compo, it's completely forgivable. You managed to put a ton of stuff into this, so I wouldn't worry too much about something like that. 3. The HUD was way too big. It obscured at least 1/3 of the screen, which I don't really think is acceptable. Luckily it didn't take away from the experience, but if I was playing the web version, it might have been pretty bad.

Those were only very minor gripes, and when I have to get nitpicky you know you did a wonderful job. Also, I loved the humor of the NPC's. They were so self aware, had references to other games, and in general were just super funny.

Great game. This is super impressive!

la-bread 2022-10-07 03:13

I only bothered with the first two endings but its still fun nevertheless, my only issue is that because the game's obstacles work on a grid, trees that look like I can squeeze through don't let me through which does make that part a bit disorienting. Pretty funny

paul-avallone 2022-10-07 04:58

Really clever use of theme. I absolutely loved the writing it was so funny. I love the old video game art style. I got the bad ending 3/4 where everything got deleted. After I picked up the artifact I didn't want to press E on the villain because I wanted to go back to the beginning but I got lost because all visible landmarks were being deleted. Had a blast playing. I would love to see this expanded with sound effects, music, and maybe voice acting. I think you could really have fun and do something clever with the sounds becoming corrupted and deleting. Fantastic job!

austin-sierra 2022-10-07 23:18

I had a lot of fun with this game there was a lot of graphics for the different levels and funny jokes in the dialogue. I died in lava would have been nice to continue but oh well. 5 stars from me bravo

t90 2022-10-07 23:43

That's incredible! The sheer amount of work you've made.

The only issue is that something was amiss without music.

johnnysix 2022-10-08 00:09

Amazing effort dude! I played until I no-clipped into oblivion in the same zone as @austin-sierra - just as I came close to the blue thing too!

Like everyone else has said, amazing progress with the quality of your games, keep at it! :v:

brainloaf-studio 2022-10-08 00:48

What a cool concept! I really like the way the glitches remove walls and such, and how it actually helps in a few places by being able to see into adjacent areas. The dialogue is pretty great, I appreciate that the game pauses when you talk. I definitely got a bit lost near the end but overall this was a very fun time. Nice work!

wolderado 2022-10-08 07:20

@brainloaf-studio Thanks! Yeah I can imagine the game would be a lot more frustrating if dialogue wouldn't pause the delete thingy

@johnnysix How did you clip into the void  That shouldn't be possible  I mean game deletes the level but game shouldn't be that buggy

@paul-avallone Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! I've done some improvements to help with the navigation in the post-jam version.

@mateu Thanks a lot for the detailed comment! Backtracking definitely should be improved. And I couldn't make the audio in time for the jam sadly. But there are sounds and music in the post-jam version. I understand why you think the UI is annoying and I agree too! But it's part of the aesthetic. Old games (especially RPG games) have this huge unnessary panels with small game screens  So I wanted to copy that aesthetic

@harry-alissavakis Thanks a lot! Yeah that accidentaly returning to the previous world was kind of annoying. I did a temporary fix on that in the post-jam version

@chase-of-bass Thanks! I'm glad you liked the game!

sipfindel 2022-10-08 10:30

Impressive. It was kinda strange without audio but I was immersed. The game has the right vibes, the writing is fun and it runs great. I really enjoyed playing it. After a while the dungeon becomes very confusing though with see-through walls, but I get it was on purpose

someone 2022-10-08 12:36

That was great. I loved talking to all the NPCs, and got all four endings. When backtracking, sometimes I entered the sewer level at the entrance, rather than the exit which seemed weird. Also one time I managed to get the admin key without needing the artefact first. Some music would have been nice.

wolderado 2022-10-08 13:06

@sipfindel Thanks! Post-jam version (1.1.0) should include sounds and music (Though sometimes music gets corrupted due to the nature of the game)

@someone Oh you reached all four endings?! Congrats! Did you download the post-jam version (1.1.0)? It should include sound fx and music

jag 2022-10-08 16:53

This was a fantastic entry! It's very hard to pull off a story in a jam but I think you outdid yourself; you even made 4 endings. I really enjoyed this from start to finish and dont really have anything to criticise. I did experience a bug in the last level with the lava where I went out of bounds of the whole map and walk around the whole level. I thought it was intended as a way to get around the lava but turns out just found an empty spot to leave the whole map. Great job with this entry!

allie-vera 2022-10-09 00:01

Equal parts fun and eerie! Once I realized that the audio was cut, I got chills- every element and development choice really serves to nail the mood.

nick-shooter 2022-10-09 02:34

Really cool concept! The NPCs, dialogue, and inventory system were surprisingly polished, and exploration was really fun!

A suggestion: Maybe put the NPC that tells you that the important NPCs don't get deleted in an easier to spot location? I waited longer that I care to admit for the troll guy asking for money to get deleted before figuring out what I needed to do, haha.

I do kinda wish the deletion mechanic affected the gameplay more, but you got a LOT done for solo game jam projection. I'm curious actually, what was your workflow to get this amount of systems/content done so quickly?

In any case, fantastic work for a game jam!

wolderado 2022-10-09 07:08

@jag Thanks! I should check that lava level

@allie-vera Thanks!

@nick-shooter Actually all npcs gets deleted. Even important ones. But they get deleted on high corruption levels. Ideally you shouldn't have to wait for an NPC to disappear  There is a purse on that same level that you can give it to the troll.

I wanted to affect gameplay a much more too but then the player experience suffers too much. I do join a lot of game jams. So the secret is game jam practice and cruching really hard  Also I wrote some of game systems for my other games too many times so I don't need to test them too much. Like dialogue system or player movement.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

dahut 2022-10-09 08:27

Great game ! Seeing the levels getting destroyed around you sure adds a nice sense of urgency

fosf0 2022-10-09 18:28

I find very original the idea of deleting assets every 10 seconds. The visual and sound polish impact too much in each reset.

The level design and dialogue system are great. I can't believe it has 4 endings.

WP!

sephowepho 2022-10-10 02:22

Amazing! Brilliant idea you struck here (:star:)! Really great execution, the deletion steadily moves throughout the game in a way that urges you to go faster, and the NPCs made me laugh so I loved it. I only got ending #2 and #3, but it was enjoyable getting to the end of both of em'! Super innovative idea, I think it works perfectly ()! I do wish there was more polish done on the art, but that's just a personal nitpick of mine.

Overall, this was a really great submission; keep it up!

goateejoe 2022-10-12 05:35

Had a blast with this one, your art direction is on point, felt a lot like an old dos game in that regard. I started to get turned around and lost as more aspects kept getting deleted but that played well with the theme and worked well to add pressure. There are a few spots I had trouble with spike timing but that could be due to me getting turned around and trying to go through them the wrong direction. Will definitely try the post jam version

postfrog 2022-10-17 23:36

Cool Graphics and concept. Impressive stuff for a one man entry!
