this game is brilliant and so fun! it seems to be balanced really well, and actually forces the player to read the prompts, and it's just. so well made. the sound effects fit super well, too. great job :D

Looks cool! I can't get past the 'Start Game' screen though...
@bcollins0000 thanks for the comment! Just hold the down arrow to steer your car to the start game text to get started.
@mike-jam Thanks, just played it and it's awesome! The theme is done really well and it's a very unique game that really conveys the feeling of texting and driving or distracted driving in general. There's so many little touches like the way the responses are randomized so you can't just memorize what button to press for what message, the variation in the people walking across the street, the damage to the vehicle, the fact that hitting the posts damages your vehicle too, it's just so much good stuff! This team should be proud of their work.
A funny concept that was executed well! Really clever that the menu is both a menu and a fog of war you need to clear.
The start screen was a bit confusing. Cute how it works very similarly to how the game plays, but I've never played a game where you strafe a car onto the start button before. You should probably make space and enter work as well. (Or better yet, make the last tip on the tip menu explain that you need to drive onto the start button.) That aside, the tips menu was a clever way to teach the player the mechanics.
Simple, but well executed within its scope. Great job! Five psychotically needy girlfriends out of five.
Woahhhh what a fun little arcade-y irreverent bit of joy! Thank you for making it web-playable, as well. Snappy and fun! I really appreciate that you actually have an end, rather than an endless "play-till-you-lose" style. What an absolute banger in the background, too!??
very funny game - i also got to to finish it in the second try haha :D
really fun to play!! a bit tricky , just challanging enought to get you back trying to finishing it (just one note , the menu is very confusing , i tooke me times to figure that the car need the go on the "start game" text. )
Fantastic!! Everything about this game checks the boxes for me. I especially like that I start murdering people when I focus on my texts OR when I don't focus on my texts enough for the right answer. Just, basically, you know...murder.
Just a really fun little game to play! Love the art style and the procedurally more destroyed car that you have. The phone takes up so much of the screen that you really have to pay attention to that first to be able to see what comes. Don't text while driving kids!
This one was great! Had to keep playing to try for a perfect score. Some of the questions didn't have obvious answers at first. When entering fullscreen mode i think the game slows down or at least the music does... Super fun. Thanks for making it!
really fun, cute graphics, bouncy music, and humorous. Love it. Excellent jam entry. I had the added difficulty of also trying to answer questions from my SO while playing, while reading the texts and trying to choose the right answer, while driving xD 10/10 multitask simulator.
Loved it!
Overall: So good! Very fun and a great concept!
Fun: Very fun!
Innovation: Loved the way the start menu worked. I like the summary at the end. The game was polished! So so so good.
Theme: Every ten seconds... I'm not sure the text seemed to be coming in faster than 10 but I feel like that's the only thing it could be. the text time seemed almost random within a range. Base on creator response: :ballot_box_with_check: appreciate the confirmation!
Graphics: Loved them!
Audio: Loved it!
Humor: Spot on!
Mood: Fantastic!
@isaac-hisey The 10 seconds is from when the text first appears to when the next one appears. we actually had a debate if it should be from when the text vanishes or when the text first appears. It is tied to the frame rate, which should be locked.
But thank you very much for the feed back
@maaate Updated accordingly, thank you for the response!

Ah c'mon, a duck is a *pedestrian* now?! I swerved to avoid a human! This trolley problem has a right answer!
Now this is a fun idea! Having the phone pop up on the right side is a smart move, the texts are funny. Simple and well executed. And that BGM is groovin'.
I didn't get a single text wrong! I know how to keep my girlfriend and duck-mom happy I guess! Lovely fun polished game.
Super fun! Great tie into the theme, loved the feeling of panic when trying to make a snap judgement on how to respond to the text with mild panic about what I'm going to hit. Nice balancing too. Music and art are fantastic and all super polished. Great work!
That's a lot of fun, and difficult! just like real life! Good social commentary, don't text and drive folks! Even when the stakes are this low it's very panicky not being able to see the road, so this would be a good reminder to some!
Fortunately the game doesn't tell you how many trees you have hit X) 7 good texts, 1 bad, and 1 pedestrian killed, the game is good ^^ It's also realistic, you don't pay attention to the road when you're on your phone. I hope there are less people moving on the road in such a chaos in reality though %)
I don't know if I have a problem with the thumbnail or if the thumbnail itself is bugged, but it displays a broken image icon in the game list.
the premise is pretty fun, and also scary (as is the street layout). Liked the start screen! I noticed that the framerate + music speed sometimes had hiccups, but maybe thats just me.
@rinkuji thanks for the feedback! The thumbnail issue was temporary, it should be fixed now
Haha very funny, this reminds me of that other LD where the theme was two incompatible genres. And the game is actually good looking and polished as well. Congrats!
YOU WIN
PEDESTRIANS KILLED: 3
:joy:
respect for the TIC-80, a very well put together game - audio, gfx, design (the messages!) come together in a nice package (with a hint of social commentary)
I had a good time :v:
A very complete game experience. Great job! Don't reply to messages while driving. It's too dangerous.
This was surprisingly great.
The obstacle avoiding driving game has been done to death in my opinion, so I'm always a little vigilant when playing another one, but this one had a cool, fresh twist that made it enjoyable.
The texts required multitasking, which was surprisingly difficult and made me commit accidental manslaughter a couple of times. The humor was great and also added to the fun of the game, and the graphics were really nice.
There was an issue with the game not running at a fixed framerate, which most noticeably made the music constantly change speeds, but I'm assuming this is just an issue with TIC-80.
Good work!
I really like how the menu works as a tutorial. You can test out the buttons, cycle through some texts, and it forces you to learn how to drive the car to start the game - smart.
All around great entry. There's a lot of polish in stuff like the progress bar at the top, the end game status report (3 correct text, 5 wrong texts, 4 pedestrians killed), and your car damage sprite gave good feedback on stuff to let you know how you're doing. Usually these small things are invisible to the player in a game jam so I'm glad to see them here.
I like the swapping of modes that happens in your brain when you get a text. I found out I'm terrible at texting and driving half the time I would just ignore traffic to focus on the phone and the other half I would just completely guess when answering the phone. It's neat to have the car on the left side of the screen controlled with my right hand on the keyboard and the phone on the right controlled by my left hand.
OK, so this is clearly horrific but pretty dang original. Really well put together package - great menu, great art and nice music. The concept works pretty well, although I actually found it easier to get to the end by just immediately clicking any button when a text popped up! So many good design choices though, it was a very smooth experience and overall this a great piece of work.
Fantastic idea that worked really well. The first time through I didn't know if the reply to the text had any impact but the second time I noticed the little tutorial you had on the start screen. Might be something you could call out a bit more but otherwise this was great!
Very fun game! It's a bit tricky to drive and text in the same time, but reading messages was quite fun!
amazing
This is also how I respond to texts in real life : I try to find the quickest way to end the conversation. I would have aliked a free mode where you can just run over all the pedestrians ^^ Good work!
