Great game! Just the right amount of challenge and learning curve that I always feel I want to do one more run cause I can do better next time. And let's face it that little robot is so cute!

parpello 2022-10-03 12:39

Love this game. Great graphics and aesthetic in general. Love how you implemented the theme. I also enjoy the shifting terrain, such a cool effect. Really addicting! Congrats!

mbrezu 2022-10-04 05:46

Insanely fun despite being rather hard (for me). I think a friendlier difficulty curve would be nice :-)

Some games started easy, some were downright impossible - which I guess makes it more addictive.

Well done!

notnasiul 2022-10-04 07:57

Thank you all!

@mbrezu It does start easy - no critters! :D Then they start coming once you gather diamonds ;)

But yes, the idea was jumping right into the game, die, rinse, repeat. Thanks for playing!

exilegl 2022-10-04 12:50

Very cool death/danger mechanic with the lava and jetpack! (The enemies are cute too). Some sort of upgrade system would be cool, but otherwise very solid game.

Here's my best score across numerous tries: Screenshot_2022-10-04 Tecton Inc by PlayMedusa.png

Oh wow, this game is great. I had a really fun time playing it, love the lava effect

rawb 2022-10-04 20:57

Awesome game I love the mechanic of the changing terrain. Also I really like the look of the lava, really cool

alec 2022-10-05 00:16

That lava effect is amazing... definitely going to steal that! The text on the initial screen was a little hard to read, and I wish I could jump on the little lava monsters to kill them! But it felt really good when I deposited a huge stack of gems all at once.

great job!

nardandas 2022-10-05 02:02

Super super cute little game! Really good use of the pico-8. The lava was great! The mechanics were really clean and arcade-style. They didn't quite grab me for a score-chasing adventure, there wasn't a *ton* of depth to their usage, but they were fun nonetheless. I got 310, just got kinda unlucky with the little lava monsters.

pianoman373 2022-10-05 03:05

Really creative idea! The core loop is solid and the game feel is really polished. The lava is great and isn't an effect I've really seen much in pico-8. I definitely feel like taking a look at the source code to see how you pulled it off.

bloodbane 2022-10-05 08:33

Sweet game! easy to learn yet hard to master. I may need to replay the game to see if I've missed HP display somewhere.

notnasiul 2022-10-05 08:37

@bloodbane No, it just warns you with some fire on your feet when you are burning. But if you don't jump/walk away fast you die quickly!

@exilegl I also thought that some progression would have been nice (+some other mechanics like new creatures, weight slowing you down, jumping on enemies...). Maybe in a future version.

roroto-sic 2022-10-05 20:59

funny addictive game ! i love the art !! (Too often dead by out of fuel )

vkaike2 2022-10-06 00:28

This game is really addictive, I just stop playing because my wife called me to go to sleep :(

Nice and simple, balanced well enough that it's probably possible to play forever :) I guess it would be interesting if there were further additions to the gameplay after a point.

wetburritosupreme 2022-10-06 20:28

This game kept me playing for so long! Really well done and seems fully complete. The graphics on the lava flow were super nice!

majadroid 2022-10-07 08:07

Wow, great game. The core game loop is simple, but great fun. The look and feel of your game is great too. Amazing job!

(First game that makes me really interested in pico-8 😄)

chromaphase 2022-10-07 09:46

Good gameplay difficulty/balance. Cute graphics. It was a pleasure to try the game ! (make me want to do something in pico8 ;p)

thesnide 2022-10-07 19:55

Very nice take on the theme. And yes, the lava effects are gorgeous!

notnasiul 2022-10-09 17:33

Thanks for playing! @majadroid @chromaphase you should definitely try pico8! You can even try the educationa web version before considering buying it - if you don't own it already, it's been featured in a few bundles recently. https://www.pico-8-edu.com/

I use Unity in my daily job, but I love pico8 for gamejams. Maybe at some point I'll use Godot, who knows, but I feel right at home with pico8 for small, arcade games. And those are great for 48h game jams :D

adriangray 2022-10-09 18:29

Cool game, like the procedural design and island formation! Nice graphics! Great job!

almost 2022-10-09 18:44

A simple concept, but a very slick presentation, I appreciate all of the little audio and visual polish. I liked that you could see little shadows in the lava when the cats hide there, and I appreciated that I get a bit of warning when my feet are on fire before I die.

On my first attempt I died almost immediately but then I saw that the text mentioned a jetpack so I tried some buttons and found that I did indeed have a jetpack, which helps a lot.

After I also realized that I can scare the cats with small jetpack hops, I was able to survive relatively easily. I got to 1000 points and think I could go on forever if needed.

Carrying a stack of 20 diamonds looked kind of funny but it was very satisfying when an opportunity presents itself to cache them all in.

krasimir-balchev 2022-10-09 19:01

Fantastic game, always a sucker for the pico-8 aesthetic! I like the mechanic of not getting the points immediately but having to deliver them to the ship. I feel like it might have been better instead of every diamond being 5 points depending on how many diamonds you deliver to get some kind of multiplier for that delivery. To make the player even greedier and try to hord as many diamonds at once as possible. And honestly, can't think of any other tips, it's a very polished and well designed game :)

barna 2022-10-09 19:34

I like the idea and the astonishing lava effect, but I've been struggling with the gameplay a bit as the lava flows sometimes a bit too quickly/unpredictable, trapping me in impossible situations. Otherwise, nicely done!

selkieharbour 2022-10-09 19:44

Really nice art style! The gamefeel was great, and the timing of each action felt right. I wish I could pet the monsters :( nice game, good work!

king-zhou 2022-10-09 21:31

Really cute little piece! enjoying he vibe~

notnasiul 2022-10-10 08:08

@krasimir-balchev That's indeed a good idea! I also toyed with diamonds slowing you down, but that made the game really difficult. But that multiplier sounds good!

Thanks for playing!

rosymaple 2022-10-10 10:05

Fantastic gem of a game, it reminds me of old flashgames in a good way!!!

johnnysix 2022-10-10 20:46

Really loved the constantly shifting landscape and the jet pack - really cool. I couldn't survive past 200 points, when more than 2 of the orange lava monsters started coming to get me :grimacing:

glaciereclipse 2022-10-10 21:11

Great game! I really liked the effects, the lava spreading, the jetpack, the game overall felt really polished and fun to play. Overall I really liked it, great job!

yoko-san 2022-10-10 21:56

Awesome little game! Very addictive :D I don't like that you can walk outside of the visible map area ;(

projectcolorball 2022-10-11 03:36

it is hard,hsdsg.JPG good game!

cdunham 2022-10-11 05:11

Cool game! I enjoyed the jetpack mechanics and the lava screwing me up constantly. The environment changing constantly and the enemies thrown in make it really chaotic. I also liked that you used the Pico8 engine, don't see many of those. Nice work!

notnasiul 2022-10-11 09:10

@yoko-san Tecton Inc. is not responsible for miners walking outside the designated mining area. You are, of course, free to do so. Please note that chances of survival will be extremely low. Have a happy mining day!

stingby12 2022-10-12 19:08

I got 1065 points.

This is a very interesting game, but after a while, it gets a bit boring, you only have one type of monster in this game.

martynas 2022-10-14 11:12

Such an interesting take on the theme! My only gripe with this is that sometimes you are put into impossible situations without the ability to anticipate them

notnasiul 2022-10-15 13:43

Not even using the jetpack, @martynas? I've never found myself in that position unless my jetpack was depleted.

erlioniel 2022-10-17 18:15

Really lovely Pico-8 creation! First of all asset quality is awesome - I do like how levels looks like and all animations. Second, but not from importance, the gameplay is really easy and catchy. Really love this one, favorite for Pico-8 for LD51 for sure!

rateddfordegenerate 2022-10-21 14:50

The graphics and sound in this game are amazing! Love the gameplay, well balanced and fun. Wish there was a way to deal with the lava gremlins though, also maybe some more enemy types would be fun!

notnasiul 2022-10-22 22:25

@rateddfordegenerate thanks! The only way of dealing with the critters is by using the jetpack when they are nearby, which scares them away!

I might take this idea and expand it a little bit some day. A local multilayer game with thos base could be fun!
