Really cool game that captures the theme well. Enjoyed it but I found it a bit too involved to hit the upgrades.

turkey 2022-04-04 13:16

Do a Flip! No idea why I found that entertaining xD Loved the tutorial and was a huge help to getting to know the game very quickly. Only 2 complaints were that I felt the shield controls were backwards and I associate a with counter clockwise and d with clockwise, but to each their own. Wasn't hard to use either way. Also the destroy all powerup seemed a little OP for it's cost. I just kept blowing up enough rockets to afford it then used it to reset. Still loved the game! great pacing and good overall flow!

holyblackcat 2022-04-04 13:21

Nice little game. Interesting idea with the connected missles.

Really liked the music, did you make it yourself?

kobylarz 2022-04-04 13:31

This is really a lot of fun! Gameplay is very enjoyable and easy to pickup, the graphics are excellent and all of the enemy rockets are easy to see and understand quickly into the experience. I loved the sense of danger as the rockets were swarming earth. The "ultimate" system is nice and rewarding too. Music is great and SFX are great! Extra props for it being run in a browser too.

My one very minor gripe is that with the laser caution sign being connected to the edges of the screen/game area, when it comes from the lower/right side, it conflicts with the ultimates and I didn't see it next to them the first time I played which was a little confusing. Very minor though!

I survived 47 days and destroyed 467 rockets. Surely I did my best at delaying the inevitable... great job!

ikvelibrium 2022-04-04 21:13

I like the sound and the idea. And flip button is great fun thing

dzejpi 2022-04-04 21:48

That was actually very fun and engaging! I knew this was Godot just from the flip button alone. :) Nice to see fellow Godot user! Great idea, I flipped the screen several times! Very good sound design as well!

algebruh 2022-04-05 02:16

Quite a pleasant atmosphere of old games, a good difficulty curve, great music. A good replacement for AimLab lol

pennycook 2022-04-05 02:17

There's a lot to like here. The graphics and SFX are top-notch, and the music establishes the mood very well. I felt like the music changed right as the difficulty picked up, too, which was really effective.

I can't really fault it, mechanically... The only thing I'd recommend is swapping the font out for something that matches the pixel art style. I've used [m5x7](https://managore.itch.io/m5x7) for projects like this in the past.

0x-void-x0 2022-04-05 08:53

@taffaz yeah I thought about making powerups triggerable with the keyboard but i didn't know if it would work lol

@turkey thanks for the feedback! I tried to make the shield follow the direction of the arrows (including up and down) but Im really a nooby when it comes to angles and trigonometry

@holyblackcat yes I made the music myself, I'm happy you liked it! and quite proud of it too

@kobylarz you sure did delay the inevitable (and beat my record somehow), I might make a 2.0 version after the jam and I think I would make the powerups transparent untill you hover over them

@ikvelibrium thank you! I don't even remember why I added the flip option lol it was one of those brain-fart moments where I can't focus on a task so a jump to another more stupid task just to get that feeling of doing something lol

@dzejpi happy to have a fellow godoter too, I think you have somekind of a powerful 6th sense for detecting godot games lol because I wouldn't be able to tell that the game was made in godot if I didn't make it lol, anyway I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@algebruh thanks alot ,happy to know I didn't screw up with the difficulty because I spent the very last few hours just tweeking it.. I agree it does feel like an aim trainer at some point lol

@pennycook thanks for the feedback I used "Bfxr" for sound effects which was my first time using it so I had to itterate alot to make sure I don't mess things up, and I definitely agree with you about the font, I wanted to change it to something cure in the end but I felt out of time, I'll add your recommended font if I do a 2.0 version, thank you!

zaza 2022-04-05 10:13

Really fun and enjoyable to play, the music is a total banger and the difficulty ramps up nicely! well done!

erikengineengineer 2022-04-05 11:05

Nice music and nice gameplay! I survived 33 days and enjoyed every second of this game

denhette 2022-04-05 11:55

Really like the mood this sets, and I love the music!

xeke-death 2022-04-05 12:03

Had to do flip, and I could still flip after I let the world burn. That's talent.

I enjoyed the different mechanics for the rockets. They were visibly different and easy to remember what does what. I liked having to pick up and move the fat rockets like a persistent child. "No, you can't have that!"

The arrow keys made the shield move the opposite way to what I expected, which threw me off a little.

Music set the tone really well. I needed a little more time to see what the skills were. Maybe hot keys to activate them so I don't have to stop shooting?

fidrik 2022-04-05 12:23

fun game! the sounds match and indicate things really well

nash 2022-04-05 13:55

I have seen quite a few games like this during this jam - but I think this one has been the best so far!

Simple but well polished. I also really appreciated the tutorial that also told a backstory. Well done!

wouter52 2022-04-05 19:08

Fun game! It is satisfying to play, and afterwards you get to do a flip as well! The controls were very well done and the graphics are all fitting together. The exclaimationpoint before the beam comes is well put togeter. It really stands out, even if you are concentrating to the other part of the screen where 20 missiles are there to get you :p

picknucker 2022-04-05 20:27

Nice game. Especially at the beginning the "do the flip" was creative.

briibot 2022-04-05 21:05

What a fun and smooth game to play! The aesthetic was clean and the music set just the right vibe for defending the planet from annihilation for as long as possible! The tutorial was also really good for showing how to play, and I liked the variations of things like linked missiles. An awesome game!

beats 2022-04-06 01:35

Easy to follow and good variation in handling the different types of enemies, as the game progresses you really have to multitask which is a good challenge, very solid entry.

orangedragon 2022-04-06 09:25

Good job! I like your game, trains your multitasking skills :) Cursor movement felt a bit delayed and it was a bit difficult to understand what some skills did and for how long, maybe a timer and tooltips would've helped. But the game is great overall, thanks!

timgook 2022-04-06 09:48

Great game, good gameplay, style, sound and tutorial ("Do a flip" and "Do a flip anyway" is really funny)

rawb 2022-04-06 12:13

Thank you for adding menu flipping capabilities to this game. Honestly it is something that should be required in all video games

rmrvar 2022-04-06 12:15

Good job on the game. You fit a lot of mechanics into this one. The graphics and sound quality were good. Overall, I think the game is a bit difficult. The controls for the shield were a bit confusing and I didn't like how the the UI of the power ups blocked part of the incoming enemies.

tsugumi 2022-04-06 12:18

Really nice game. And Great art style too! Solid gameplay and high quality. Good job!

peter-ondus 2022-04-06 12:19

really nice game, loved the different enemy types, the sprites and the music

only issue i had was that the links for the linked rockets (the ones that have a shield based on other rockets) are not very visible given the lack of contrast between the dark bg and the black links

skylife 2022-04-06 12:22

Like many ppl befor me already said: Awesome game with a spot on theme concept. I love your game! :)

voxar 2022-04-06 15:12

Nice! Lots of innovative enemy ideas and I liked that it was intuitive that you need to rotate the shield towards the warning sign and visually clear enough to be able to do it while focusing on shooting.

My favourite was the timed ones that you can move to other rockets to take down with it. Would like some additional perk function to them like single hit the red and splitting ones, and/or a bit larger of blast radius or chain effect destruction.

bottled-up-dark-peace 2022-04-06 15:46

I recorded myself playing, message me on the Jam’s discord @ Dark Peace and I’ll send it to you. It was a fun game, plus the tuto was good AND skippable.

ocwal 2022-04-06 16:18

Liked the sounds and how the earth dissolved for each and every hit. "Do a flip" button was a fun addition. This is why I love indie games. You can add whatever you like.

arktas 2022-04-06 21:31

I like this one, simple, common but polish and well fit the theme. Pixel graphics are the best and adding some multitask concept to asteroid defender game is nice to keep a real pressure :) . Great job, Keep coding and... Do a flip anyway!

boaromayox 2022-04-07 06:49

Do a flip!

If this game had a humor rating, I'd give it a four and a half stars for that random flip option.

Anyway, this is one of the more fun games I've played so far. The gameplay mechanics are simple, and the controls really intuitive (though for non-mouse users, it may be not be so). Even though the rocket hell came, and I managed only to hold out for barely a month in-game time, it still left a feeling of nearly defying the inevitable since the rockets were so easy to hit.

Still one of the better games I've played because of its simple controls, and the random humor helped spice it up.

macs 2022-04-08 05:33

Hectic game that engaged me well. I like that I had to split my attention between controlling the shield and shooting down rockets. Nice variety in the rocket design as well that kept it interesting, and the difficulty ramped up well. The upgrades were a bit difficult to remember with all else going on, though they probably would have helped a lot. Though I appreciate that you had an upgrade that allowed healing to 'delay' the end, I missed this in some other entries. I wish I didn't have to go through the tutorial to restart! I just want to keep looping and getting better. I guess that's a good problem to have, good job with your game!

lvl99chicken 2022-04-08 05:34

Really enjoyed this game! Impressive that you made all the assets, really liked the music. Managing the missles and laser shield, felt like just enough to do but not overwhelming. I like the backstory too haha. My only complaint is that I feel like the rotation of the laser shield was inverted to what id expect (itd feel more intuitive to me if the D key rotated it clockwise instead of counterlcockwise). Overall, really enjoyed this submission, great job!

sotaroni 2022-04-08 22:12

Really enjoyed this one, too me back to my days of playing the infinite wave defense flash games, the pixel art was great, the sound effects and music really fit the tone of the game, if i ha to fault it i'd say the fact that you can delay the inevitable forever because of how easy to charge the power ups are, but over all great game keep up the good work

cover-club-media 2022-04-08 22:19

Did encounter a bug that stopped by laser blocker from turning, but restarted and all worked fine. Excellent game. You've made a very fun game here. Love all the neat mechanics that you introduce, especially the drag and drop bombs. Excellent submission :)

renge 2022-04-08 22:23

Gets really challenging really quickly! I wish there was some kind of upgrade system in addition to the abilities. Nice game!

flyingkaida 2022-04-11 14:37

Well done! How could we be so careless? lol. Love the difficulty ramp. The graphics and mechanics were great! And you had me 'rolling' with laughter! At least in the end we can all get SOME enjoyment in the inevitable end as long as we remember to, "do a flip anyways" XD

axelrinaldo 2022-04-17 22:29

I am sad that I can not rate this game in humour, that flip is worth a 5/5! That is how the short Ludum Dare time should be spent!
