I can't remember having chills from a LD game - I mean before this one. Played four times over right after you uploaded it to itch.io. (Yes I went to the page too early when it only had the source code, and I had to refreshed it a few times to see if the executable is up. So what?) Voice acting is great, the atmosphere is amazing and the soundtrack fits so well.
Also how the hell do you achieve so much with so little graphic assets? It's basically on a monochrome background! It shouldn't look that good! :smile:
Great job once again you people!
(Question tho: how do I know if I've seen all the endings?)

Man, the atmosphere in this game is heavy! In the best way. Really felt hopeless and just barely scraping by the entire run... until I didn't scrape by anymore, that is. RIP.
I feel like in another context, you and the wolf could probably be buds, but everybody got hangry. Really liked the concept of the protector spirits for the birds and bunnies.
No real criticism, other than perhaps having the controls listed in game would be nice, but it was easy enough to just flip back to the browser to check them.
Anyway, nice work! (This is my first rate of LD50! Feeling a little loopy after the past 72 hours, but enjoyed your game all the same)

Better than a tons of games I have payed money for. Best jam game I think I have ever played! Amazing job, this is a 10/10.

This is by far the best LD game I've played and i must agree with @thorpalsson I've paid for a lot of worse games than this. I can't find a single thing to nitpick at, just incredible work

Christ in a kettle over a burning fire, this game was something! The atmosphere the voice acting and the mind games played by the wolf. Loved that you could complete the game in different ways. The art was amazing. Simple and satisfying gameplay! This is MILES ahead of the games which currently sit at the top of the rating. Great work!

This is truly a great experience, Wow! Loved every second of it. The eerie atmosphere, the dark soundtrack and the fantastic voice-overs are spectacular. There were moments when I was panicking and looking for the nearest tree and had to fight the wolf at the same time! Good times!

I loved this! The music is so simple but achieves such a dark atmosphere.
The gameplay is simple but becomes frantic later on and really feels like you're struggling for survival at the end.
The character designs are excellent. At first I felt like you and the wolf were both struggling with the same problem, but then when he brought the dead wolf cubs in exchange for your child it really turned him into this powerfully scary entity, like he understood something you didn't.
I want to know more about this world and why there's this winter and a huge wolf who wants YOUR baby so badly!
What an amazing game, love the art style in the title screen, the sound is very well done.. Creep factor 9000. Extremely good submission, well done

From the first meeting with the wolf I knew that I was playing something special. The choice of words, the voices, the artwork - everything felt just right. And it got even better further on. Amazing game. Could you tell us what inspired you?

Wow, what a mood! I played couple of times and got through the crow spirit but then died. There's a real feel of fear and despair in the air as it's cold and dark and bloody fight going for your life!
I liked the simple game mechanics. You knew almost right away what is what (although I first didn't realise I had to collect the trees I had fell). Meters show you stats you need and combat is simple avoid and click.
Great and unique art style through the game gives the feeling of old folklore tails or even cave paintings. Voice acting was awesome in all it's eerieness, I loved the moment the wolf came "a child for a child?", made me feel actual disgust for it.
Professional and complete polished game overall with impressive atmosphere. Thanks for making this!
Great atmosphere as a result of killer audio and visuals, paired with tight mechanics and a high level of polish. I know to expect this from you but I'm still very happy to see it! Fantastic work <3

Wow, I was totally surprised by your game.
I can see the care that you have put in all the details. The sound design and voices are simply brutal, the voice of the wolf has left me shocked. The pixelart sprites and animations are great. Controls feel super smooth and gamefeel details make the difference.
The overall result feels like a short but very elaborate game, just what you'd expect from a great jam entry.

This is incredible!! the sounds, music and above all the voice acting are amazing!O.O! And they certainly help to give it the great atmosphere that the game has. As for the art, I think there is a lot to work on and polish, but that pixel art is really great. I don't know if it was a performance problem or another, but the movement of the character didn't feel good or fluid, maybe it's a problem with my PC. Outside of that I liked the game a lot and I spent hours playing it, thank u so much for your great entry!!!

Well... the idea is good. And +++'s for using SDL2, always a pleasure. ~~Bugs made it unplayable at least for me and~~ the possibility to NOT skip the talk between the wolf and the latter freak were a minus. The atmosphere is great, sounds are great. This has potential. ~~Just not yet ready enough to be fun.~~ **EDIT:** I gave this another try. There must have been some odd glitch, I couldn't repeat it. The problem was I didn't get wood when chopping down the trees, but it seemed to work perfectly now. I still think it should be possible to skip dialogues you've already experienced while on consecutive runs. I find the game quite hard, but I am too impatient to take new runs because of the repeating dialogues :slight_smile:
@unbugged Oh no, very sorry to hear that the game was unplayable for you! First time we hear about it, maybe you could DM me about it on discord (Jeeper#2222), would love to find out what wasn’t working for you! Maybe @tomssuli can steam it for you. The dialogue is a big part of the game and we don’t feel you would get the intended experience if skipped.

What a tense game! I love the dialogue between the different characters. Especially the conversation between the wolf and the woman. I also love that if you kill rabbits and or birds, their ruler will initiate a battle. Everything was really well done! Outstanding job!
That was really impressive, loved the voice acting, the art, the overall mood of the game. Fantastic job!

Simply wow! Here is my review: - the art style is beautiful, - the voice acting is amazing, - the whole set up and the story are really interesting, - the music is superb and fits the mood of the game very well, - the gameplay is super well thought and engaging.
And I thought the wolf was scary, and then I met rabbits :) Just hats off!

Damn, really dark story. That wolf gave me huge motivation to stay alive and protect my child. The side plot with the bird and the rabbit was interesting as well. I would have liked if one of them gave you a reward for not killing any of their kind, would have added something cool to the plot. I mean, the plot is already really amazing. Really cool game, and I love the voice acting!

Remarkable! The entire game drips with atmosphere, holding the metaphorical and poetic quality of a grimm fairy tale. I loved it. The gameplay was super functional and intuitive, the visuals were well put together and the deities were super creepy. I managed to get myself killed by the bird deity on my first playthrough, but I'm curious to know if I get a worse ending
I am, however, very glad that I'm not just delaying the inevitable in the end. If there was no good ending, I'd be very depressed. :sweat_smile: brilliant job as always!

Great voice acting, solid visuals, great job! My only issues were with aiming the axe swings, I was having a bit of a hard time with it in some fights. Overall really cool game, keep it up!

Wow, what a wonderful wolf voice! The cruel tone really shook me, and the game never felt save. Balancing the ressources felt challenging! Reading the comments, there seems to be more to the story than I thought, I wanna give this one a second try!

@belle OK, I played the game again and got the vegan ending, really cool that you thought of that. One thing I'd like to add, is that at times it was very challenging to find new wood, I would walk for a while without seeing anything but snow to the point where I would almost freeze to death. I guess that adds suspense and urgency though.
Incredibly atmospheric. Fantastic job on the art and sound especially! This feels much more polished than I’d expect from a LD game. Gameplay-wise, It does feel like the hitboxes on the pickups are a little small and finicky, which made things harder while scrambling to pick stuff up while dying.
Damn just played this after I saw the results! This game gave me chills - the voices and mood were so fucking good.

Oh my gosh this is outstanding! Simple gameplay, but the narrative was so powerful, and had such good voice acting! My only complaint is that the combat was extremely non-threatening, but it did not have much negative impact on the experience. Very very good game.
