NICE!

lighty-the-light 2021-04-26 11:30

It reminds me of the Cultist Simulator and I loved it! But the text are too small and it is quite hard to understand what to do. Some more guidance would be just perfect!

kieron-woodhouse 2021-04-26 11:35

Unfortunately couldn't actually play on my ultrawide monitor as the canvas scaled to match the width, cutting off the top and bottom. Looked really interesting, though!

hotpaw 2021-04-26 11:36

Even though i had a hard time to really grasp the game, i think it was nice, i really liked the whole gamefeel, nice story and cool concept! also i love card games so + points for that!

smooches 2021-04-26 11:41

I'd love to see more development of this concept, intentionally milling yourself out in the most efficient way possible seems like a great concept for a card game. A bit more tutorializing about mechanics and some nice card sound effects would be great additions. Overall still really liked it.

saintchristopher777 2021-04-26 22:27

@kieron-woodhouse Sorry about that. Need to work on my "adapting to other resolutions" skills I guess!

@ruslanch @lighty-the-light @hotpaw @smooches Thanks, glad you liked it!

blackopsben 2021-04-27 00:05

Great interpretation of the theme! I would have liked to hear some sound effects though, but the voice recording was a nice touch.

c4scar 2021-04-27 00:10

This was different haha. I liked the idea but it felt like on one hand I was getting a phylosophy lesson and the other I was trying to match symbols. Nice voice acting :) really stood out.

mehul 2021-04-27 09:04

Interesting concept Love the voice

pink-spaceman 2021-04-27 19:56

First of all, amazing game, i realy like the voice actors, the concept is interesting, storytelling very good, the artstyle is beautiful, and the gameplay shine, love all the cards and how they work in the game. Good game

kieron-woodhouse 2021-04-27 22:14

@saintchristopher777 Thanks for the fix! (Well, I'll always take a webGL build over anything else.) It was a cool idea. Did take me a while to figure out the mechanics. I think a big block of text at the start isn't the best way to learn, but hey, it's hard to do much more in a jam. Great visuals, and the voiceover was a nice touch you don't see often. Well done!

emiliabea 2021-04-27 22:44

I was caught off guard by the voice acting because it's a very nice touch that are in few ludum dare games, and it sounds good too! I do wish the text could have been a little larger because even on full screen I was struggling a little bit, but overall very cool take and mechanics.

kr4ft3r 2021-04-28 00:17

Good amount of effort. I have to point out that I don't play card games, so apologies for all the things I missed, I am here mostly for visuals and to check out interesting theme interpretation.

I never figured out what memory and introversion do, nor did I follow through what special cards do, yet somehow I managed to go through five levels by just ordering cards by symbols (as my brain likes to call them - brain, lamp, heart and eye). Which is a compliment to your game's accessibility, it would be very frustrating if I couldn't pass levels without understanding every single thing.

Great job for your first LD, very nice graphics and interpretation, you have put quite some thought into this, and you have accomplished a great deal for short time.

saintchristopher777 2021-04-28 00:23

@kr4ft3r Thanks! You didn't miss much - memory charges let you avoid some of the "bad" card effects (kind of a "shield" I guess), and introversion lets you hover over the deck to see what the next card will be. I wanted to add all that into a tutorial, but ran out of time and tried to keep the "wall of text" tutorial at the start as short as possible!

Glad you liked it!

secret-magic-404 2021-04-28 02:44

Such an original game! Genius use of the theme... your character and voice acting gave your game a super fun personality and I definitely enjoyed it more because of it.

If would like to quickly update your game with some minor improvements, I would suggest getting rid of the typos and cleaning up the voice audio files (removing the noise).

With the very high popularity of card games online, I think you could easily turn this into a commercial product. Either a more polished single player experience or PvP... I would be very curious to see what you could come up with.

Well done

saintchristopher777 2021-04-28 11:11

@secret-magic-404 Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Good feedback, I'll definitely clean the audio and typos for an update.

lone-wolf 2021-04-28 15:40

Nice work! I forgot how much I liked card games. This one may have just gotten me back into them.

Took me a bit to figure out how the game worked but after a few blind runs the tutorial made sense and I enjoyed the rest of my playtime.

farzad-farzaneh 2021-04-29 08:01

I enjoy playing this game and i like the theme and how you used it.Good job dude.

daine0 2021-04-29 08:28

Wow, card game? Smth new for Game Jam.

kirby 2021-04-29 09:56

YOOOOOOO UR idea IS CRAZYYYYYYYYYY.Also art is so adorable. Great work and my congratulations <3

fluffygamedev 2021-04-29 14:12

Cool game! I like the art, and though the rules are simple, there still is some challenge!

alexhall 2021-04-29 23:28

Very interesting idea, although I felt more agency or consequences should have been given to the player overtime than it felt (with the cards played being still on displayed or consultable and feedbacks when they interact with others and have active effects. I'm not sure I grasp the mechanics though so, maybe it's me ;) I'm particularly interested in the theme you choose as a once avid reader of CG Jung. I've read 5 of his books and the Red Book ^^ I also played mentally about a game idea for a while using Jung's work. You know, he words this idea as follow : the more you go down towards your shadow (the Eye, the chtonian depths, etc) the more brighty shines your God, and the more you rise towards your God, the most tempting becomes your shadow self. I felt that ^^ Nice LD friend, good luck and happy game development :)

schwammelie 2021-04-30 17:08

cool concept, and love the voice! always enjoy a good card game :)

frompdx 2021-04-30 23:43

Artwork is great and general concept are really interesting. I think the game itself could benefit from some background music to help set the mood. Another thing that might make it feel more polished is to provide a bit of feedback when you play a card (sounds or animation). Overall, nice work and nice entry.

j-kyle 2021-05-01 00:10

Love the concept and that you went with a card game. Nice gameplay loop. Just needs a little more variety in the "powers" that the cards give. Great work!

saintchristopher777 2021-05-01 00:38

@frompdx @j-kyle You guys are 100% correct! Music, card animations/feedback, and more powers were all things sacrificed to the demanding 48 hour compo gods!

frompdx 2021-05-01 01:33

Still really great for a compo @saintchristopher777. I think it has potential past LD. Really creative.

dom-de-re 2021-05-01 04:21

Pretty awesome for compo!

fireslash 2021-05-01 07:10

Feels like there's a lot of depth here that just hasn't surfaced itself well to me. Maybe I'm just missing it? Like a bunch of cards have effects but they don't ever seem relevant or useful toward the end-goal.

I suspect a lot of this is just a lack of vfx/treatment around them. A more obvious effect to show each card's effect when it plays would really highlight what they do; though even then I find myself strategizing mostly around card archetypes, not effects.

Played a bit, seems fun! Nice work!

aroningi 2021-05-01 10:57

I really loved the art. I haven't seen a lot of card games in this jam so it's nice to see something a little different. I really like card games and I had a lot of fun playing yours, great job :) I don't know much about Carl Jung, but because of this game and a couple others that were also inpired by him, I might look a little into him.

azagaya 2021-05-01 15:42

Cool card games! Really simple but engaging! Congratulations, really solid entry!

trexxak 2021-05-01 23:09

This is super interesting! Besides the card background blending in a tad too much with the playmat, I also really enjoyed the art!

groggi 2021-05-02 22:46

Interesting take on the theme! It seemed quite complex and overwhelming at first but resulted quite the opposite. I really enjoyed the gameplay and some of the quotes on the cards. Would have loved if the text on the cards would be bigger, was difficult to read. Overall well done!

frank-gevaerts 2021-05-03 16:40

An excellent interpretation of the theme! It took me a while to figure out how everything worked (in hindsight that's my fault for not reading the instructions properly), but it was fun to play after that. I managed to get to level 7. Nice voice work :)

kotzi 2021-05-05 11:07

Great game! It took me a bit to understood it (even after reading the tutorial hah) but eventually it was good to go. Congrats!

scrawach 2021-05-05 18:00

Yep, really cool card game! I got a lot of fun while playing. And good voice acting. It's very rare for jam games, but always great!

super-hadoken 2021-05-07 15:14

Great compo entry. Engaging mind bending fun.

eugenik 2021-05-07 15:49

As a Jung's fan I really enjoyed this. Although it looks like the card descriptions don't have much to do with the actual card functions, but you used random Jung's quotes. Great idea overall!

saintchristopher777 2021-05-07 15:57

@eugenik Glad you liked it! You are correct - _ideally_ the quotes would be more targeted, but due to the 48 hour time crunch I went with a random pool of quotations.

gustavo-christino 2021-05-08 05:23

@saintchristopher777…

I've played your game here (as you asked). :)

I will make the full analysis soon.

https://youtu.be/lciF4F6MkJw

zimny11 2021-05-09 00:00

Really nice game! I enjoyed it a lot.

gustavo-christino 2021-05-09 04:26

I wish there was a "48h" web version too. @.@ Sad...

**Analysis...**

1 - Mechanics, Learning and Flow: The game consists of consuming all the cards in your set. To do this, you need to use each card. Each card has a type and can only be played if that specific type is allowed at any given time. There are other mechanisms that determine the gameplay, such as the possibility of losing due to lack of movement (that is, the cards in hand cannot be used). Learning the basics is quick, however there are some things that make the experience less interesting (such as hiding the cards if you don't have the mouse pointer over the card region), or even the fact that it isn't always selected. the letter you would like (because you are still selecting one next to it (maybe it is a question with the collision box used (or equivalent))). Learning how to deal with the mechanics of each card is a new layer of challenge, which demands more time. The graphic arts are well finished, so over time it is possible to distinguish the cards without actually having to read them in full (perhaps just by looking at the name and the image or even just by looking at the image only). The flow of play depends on the player's patience in reading the cards and making the best decision with each move.

2 - Graphics, Audio and Narrative: The graphics were, for the most part, very good (especially considering the short time of the event). The audio is interesting (the dubbing seems to be funny and stereotyped (I suppose no one will complain about this stereotype)). The narrative focuses on advancing the levels of difficulty, suggesting that it reflects the difficulty of delving into the human mind (at least I understood it this way).

3 - Culture: The game talks a lot with the area of Psychology. In addition to being very interesting when approaching very popular card games (like Magic: The Gathering).

4 - Monetization: I suppose that the due artistic polish (allowing greater saturation of some part of the graphic art, so that it becomes more clear) and some improvements in the interface (suggestions previously mentioned) can make this game something fun for some people. If the game can be edited by a "provider" (a psychologist, for example) so that it can be used as a way to reach a patient, perhaps (here I open a big parenthesis, as I would have to consult someone in the area) the game could be sold as a support tool (accessory).

I'm interested in everything related to psychology. Therefore, it is quite curious to learn about this theory. For me, this is relevant, because I had to seek help from specialists. And lately I've been feeling mental health issues and emotional burnout. I figured out where can i find a psychologist near me to deal with this condition https://www.australiacounselling.com.au/ For me it became a necessity, because I completely lost the joy and meaning of life.
