love the name, theme, and style! really a great looking and sounding game. unfortunately i couldn't find my way past the first restricted area. some of the locked doors are hard to figure out. big fan of what i saw though, great graphics and writing. i really liked the cactus disguise lol. good work!

boxedmeatrevolution 2021-04-27 13:25

The web build seems to be broken, on Firefox at least.

chartle 2021-04-27 13:31

@boxedmeatrevolution Yeah, we've tried a lot of things to no avail. I just took out the webgl build :(

EDIT: Has been fixed!

lighty-the-light 2021-04-27 13:35

A well-made game. Gameplay design are excellent, also love the art work and audio!

patomkin 2021-04-27 13:44

Took the key from reception, still could not get past the security camera. The switches are a nice addition, I just wish I could have seen where they lead. Cactus overpowered, nerf cactus :D

leonvano 2021-04-27 13:45

Getting to be a cactus was amazing, always wanted to be a cactus

klaaswag 2021-04-27 13:47

I love this game :)

carko 2021-04-27 13:47

Really love the artstyle, however on my first playthrough I somehow managed to bug out the game which made everything uninteractable which made it really confusing

titaninette 2021-04-27 13:47

Cool infiltration game :) I like the graphics and music design. At the beginning I didn't undertood that there where some corridors cause we don't see the floor on them, maybe the angle of the camera should be changed a bit to make it easier to see where you can go or not. I found a cactus costume by chance, I didn't saw it but an interaction appeared on my screen so I new there was something. I don't know if you did it on purpose.

Overall, I found it really easy to infiltrate, it was sadly not very challenging on that point.

Great job overall! :)

aaron-butterworth 2021-04-27 13:50

Great artstyle, humour, and music. Fun to play but can be confusing. I also managed to get the computer stuck in a loop where it played all the dialog then repeated it instead of ending.

Overall very good though!

substain 2021-04-27 13:54

Nice one :)

t-c 2021-04-27 13:56

Great game! Love the music, art, and overall style. "hey, you're not a cactus!" - Lady, don't act like you know my life!

Game has a few bugs, though. Sometimes things you can click on (like the door you need a key for) won't let you click on them, and after you get access to the first computer, the game seems to get stuck in a loop by taking away your controls while the dialog happens, and then repeating the dialog infinitely.

Minus the couple of bugs though, I really like everything about this game, and think it's top notch for a game jam. Good job!

anshul-k 2021-04-27 13:58

For some reason the WebGL version isn't loading. Is it a bug or a problem from my side?

redneckchan 2021-04-27 14:04

It looks great, I really enjoyed the graphics and sounds. But there is some bugs: in the first time i encountered with the endlessly repeating dialog in the computer room, so in the second i could not get the key at the reception. I hope you will fix it. Good work!

chartle 2021-04-27 14:05

@anshul-k It's a problem on the game's end, but I can't find the problem on itch.io (the build works locally) so I've decided to remove the WebGL build. Sorry :(

lucky-zucc 2021-04-27 14:11

I love it! It's hysterically funny, though I had a bug at the end. I couldn't move after I interacted with the computer in the reception room.

patrikherman 2021-04-27 14:27

What a lovely game! And the music, congratulations! I can definitely appreciate as a composer :)

2021-04-27 14:41

Love the greyscale art style. The music (especially the cactus music) is amazing. The game feels very polished. Well done.

spaint 2021-04-27 16:37

Cool little game, had a laugh or two... or three :D. Music, setting and graphics match very well. Good job!

eugenik 2021-04-27 16:42

Nice and addictive game! Well played !.

vincent-abel-grimalt 2021-04-27 17:05

Nice gameplay Design, cool graphism, i will try again to go deeper in the maze ! ;)

scratch 2021-04-27 17:10

It's a fun game! It feels neat and polished for such a short amount of time to develop, visuals are nice, and you can disguise as a cactus! A few checkpoints would have been nice tho

pat-cleaver 2021-04-27 21:17

@patrikherman Thanks loads! I am really happy with how the music (and adaptive audio system in general) worked out. Thanks for playing (and listening!)

asephy 2021-04-27 21:23

Nice take on the theme, very creative. Really like the artstyle and gameplay. ;D

xxatrain223 2021-04-28 01:52

Fantastic art style! I was confused by the switches, not sure if I just wasn't very observant or if they didn't do anything, I couldn't see where the traces went.

saskle 2021-04-28 06:49

@asephy @xxatrain223 I'm glad you liked the art! I haven't done much pixelart lately but this game made me rediscover how much fun it is! Thanks for playing!

benatiu 2021-04-28 18:24

Clearly a great experience ! Make an infiltration game is a perfect example of a sideways idea.

xpoho 2021-04-28 19:05

Шпионские боевики никогда не выходят из моды. Очередное задание выполнено! Спасибо за игру ^_^

jonah 2021-04-29 10:53

oh wow! That cactus costume and those cold comments. What a great and funny espionage experience in a game. I love what you did with the sound and music! great usage of FMOD! I also had problems getting it to work well in webgl. using Safari sadly still doesn't work for example. What helped my game the most, and making it work for Chrome and Firefox was using FMOD's webgl specific platform settings and you can even try changing the sample rate to see if it will help your game. Screenshot 2021-04-29 at 12.51.36.png

Hope this helps! Good job with this game I really enjoyed it! 👍

pat-cleaver 2021-04-29 11:43

@jonah thanks loads, happy you enjoyed the game! Yeah I tried the WebGL specific build settings, but I still get stuttering I’m afraid (also changed the DSPbuffer size to no avail). Indeed, maybe last thing I can try is reducing sample rate on the music files themselves. Web audio is just always a bit of a pain. Still, at least it sort of works like this. Thanks for your time!

amanda-laven 2021-04-29 19:53

Ohhh man the music is fun in this! Love the keyboard sounds. The graphics are really cool, legible, and fit the mood, I like the choice to use color just for the lines of sight and interactables - makes it really clear to the player what's important on the screen. Excellent work!

pat-cleaver 2021-04-29 20:06

@amanda-laven Thanks! Yes I got really excited when I realised I could go with a noir-ish/60s spy vibe for the music, such a fun genre to explore! Thanks so much for playing!

silas-reinagel 2021-04-29 23:53

Wow! This is a masterpiece!

A fun spy plot. Great music! Classic isometric graphics (brings back fond memories of SNES Shadowrun. Interesting and varied gameplay. What a jam game! You just earned the highest rating I've given out on an LDJam48 game yet!

My favorite moment was the voice line when someone saw me in my cactus disguise: "Are you disguised as a cactus?" I was not expected that one bit. Loved it!

advay 2021-04-30 02:55

Extremely good game! Fits with the theme and i Loved the spy experience. Great storytelling! 1. The text that pops up when we interact with objects is too small. 2. Your cover image could be a screenshot of the game when you get instructions from your boss. I think that would be a better cover image. Of course with the name of your game.

So much detail and polish into this game. Well deserved 5 stars.

rolle 2021-04-30 06:44

Wow, really nice game! The music, the graphics is really great! Nice interpretation of the theme also!

Amazed you could do all of this in this short time, guess you guys didn't sleep much? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Congrats on the game! :spy:

pat-cleaver 2021-04-30 07:38

@silas-reinagel thank you so much, that’s very high praise indeed! And yes, details like the adaptive voice lines are exactly the kind of little surprises I enjoyed adding. I think I ended up with 39 different NPC voice lines that change based on your disguise. Very happy you liked the game!

pat-cleaver 2021-04-30 07:49

@advay thanks for the feedback! Yeah, also the text bubbles also don’t work correctly in WebGL(web builds are a pain). Thanks for playing!

pat-cleaver 2021-04-30 07:54

@rolle thanks loads! Yeah I didn’t realise I was sleep deprived until after it was over, had too much fun making it. Glad it seems to have been worth it.

vsi 2021-04-30 12:01

really nice game, liked the graphics, gj!

saskle 2021-04-30 12:24

@amanda-laven Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it! A limited palette helped speeding up things so we could add more content and polish. :)

saskle 2021-04-30 12:27

@rolle You're right about the sleep, but @chartle takes the cake when it comes to that! :D

pat-cleaver 2021-04-30 12:31

Agreed, our programmer @chartle just keeps going deep into the night, and we just get to wake up to new features :)

stin 2021-05-01 08:49

Game is nice and graphics is cool but in browser sounds are broken but i still can hear very cool music

pat-cleaver 2021-05-01 09:02

@stin thanks for playing! Yeah I'm afraid WebGL just doesn't play nice with more complex FMOD systems, we've tried all sorts of things to fix it to no avail. Short of downloading the executable, you can check out the music by itself here: https://soundcloud.com/pat-cleaver/dieper-deaper-ost

snip-man 2021-05-01 09:11

This was a gem. People were not impressed with my cactus disguise lol

saskle 2021-05-01 14:10

@snip-man Thanks for playing! If you stand still when they see you, you'll look more cactus-y to them. ;)

diotins 2021-05-01 14:50

Incredible job on this one! The game is very fun to play, the "morph" mechacnic is super satisfying and I love the sound system you created! Awesome game :D

pat-cleaver 2021-05-01 14:52

Thank you so much @diotins glad you liked it!

yobiscus 2021-05-01 15:25

Small bug: I was able to grab the first set of keys from the other side of the reception desk. Good work though. Really enjoyed the ambience and the cactus costume :)

doomthings 2021-05-01 19:12

aaahahaha, what a great concept! love the taking over of other folks XD

asdehielo 2021-05-04 11:13

Very fun game, good pixelart, good music. Got a few laughs out of me :) My favorite part was beating up everyone in that room full of people.

I think it just needs a way to speed up the dialogues.

Great entry, good job!

blackopsben 2021-05-04 12:17

Nicely done! I loved that you could disguise as a cactus! This was a simple but very well polished game! I like the dialog system but some times the individual character sounds were quiet and paired in a way that it sounded way too quiet or unspoken. It's impressive though!

pat-cleaver 2021-05-04 12:22

@blackopsben thanks for playing and for the feedback! Yeah the dialogue audio system ended up being a bit unpredictable and strange. It’s quite experimental, very hard to ACTUALLY simulate speaking(which kind of wasn’t the point)but was fun to implement anyway.

digital-bacon 2021-05-05 13:34

Fun little game, I like the sideways take on the theme. Loved the graphics style and the audio. The cactus disguise was hilarious! Great entry!

fabula-rasa 2021-05-05 13:44

The spy movie music and the black-and-white graphics go very well together and both are well done. Ability to disguise yourself and the connected animation is just great.

It's a nice little story and a pleasure to play through. Pacing felt nice, and patrolling enemies provided just enough of an obstacle.

I noticed one weird thing with the camera - I could click on it to disable it before I got the key from the reception, but after I got the key, I could not disable the camera anymore. I'm not sure if that's by design or a bug.

I got the MacGuffin (by the way, kudos on the naming, gave me a laugh ) and had fun playing.

Screenshot_1.jpg

pat-cleaver 2021-05-05 13:55

@fabula-rasa oh thanks for the detailed feedback, glad you enjoyed the game! That bug with the key/camera is news to me...might have to do with the NPC who comes to fix it, something not updating properly there.

pat-cleaver 2021-05-05 13:56

@digital-bacon thanks for playing , happy you enjoyed it!

jk5000 2021-05-05 18:15

A funny and very well made little game. Well done.

saskle 2021-05-05 20:06

@fabula-rasa Thanks for your kind words, I'm happy you enjoyed it!

doctortm 2021-05-05 22:05

Nice jam! love the art style, the music and sounds complement very well. Great job!

mighty-mufflon-games 2021-05-06 15:38

This is a really cool game and the morph ability is awesome. :)

itsisaac 2021-05-06 15:46

This game was fantastic! I loved the humourous comments from the security! "Thoose dont even fit you" I burst out laughing when I found out i could be a cactus! "Is that a cactus costume?" Great stuff. Really well polished game with simple and easy to master mechanics! Fantastic. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

pat-cleaver 2021-05-06 16:27

@itsisaac thanks so much! I had a lot of fun coming up with all those different voice lines and recording. I feel like having the NPCs acknowledge how the player is dressed really adds to the fun, it’s a small detail of polish, but I’m very happy it worked for you! 😊

binaryprinciple 2021-05-06 16:54

Congrats to all of you! This game is amazing! The atmosphere and humor is well done and I loved the Macguffin (Hitchcock) reference. The gameplay is fluid and the information horizon (vision cones) are perfect for keeping me aware of the risk without making it easier. The cactus was a brilliant idea and nice mechanic for alarms, also the voice over: is he dressed like a cactus? Even the little touch of running away ends the game. Your team deserves to be on top. A 5 start overall!

pat-cleaver 2021-05-06 17:02

@binaryprinciple wow, such high praise, thanks loads for playing and for the kind words! I’m genuinely curious how many people found the “you can just leave” ending, Dieper’s tapping foot animation on that screen got a good laugh out of me when I first saw @saskle had made it!

binaryprinciple 2021-05-06 17:15

@pat-cleaver the praising is the least I can do to recognize an excellent game. I laugh at the cactus and his walking, gave me some nice Mr.bean/Leslie Nielsen vibes.

ismael-rodriguez 2021-05-09 01:46

Very nice! The music is great and fits perfectly. All the of audio is well done. The visuals are mostly great, it's only the clipping/sprite-depth issue holding it back.

I was stuck in the first area for a longer than I'd like to admit. I beat up everyone and tried to use their look to open the door but nothing worked. I even left and got yelled at by the mission control dude. Didn't know what to do and wondered if I did something wrong, so I restarted.

This hallway didn't scream "walk over here" to me, because I think I was expecting to see a floor.

time.png

Would it kill the vibe if the hallways were 2 tiles wide just so half the floor was visible? Maybe that's just me being derpy.

Once I got passed that little hallway, everything was pretty smooth. I got all the way to the room where we turn off the lights, I started running through and lights came back on, I got discovered and thrown out. I didn't realize the meter on the right was like a "detected" meter. Not sure that was explained in the game.

Anyway I gave it another shot and managed to get the McGuffin at the end of that room.

I like the variety of characters and disguises to use. And the silly story was fun.

Very good job!

sigill 2021-05-10 12:45

This was fun! I seemed like the dialogue (monologue) sometimes showed twice, for example when I tried to leave the building at the start I got the same warning twice. The same happened in another room. That was a bit annoying, and to be honest I didn't appear to require disguises so I didn't really get the point but despite those things this is a very nice entry with simple but effective visuals and fitting sound and music. Congratulations on this LD48 game!

wizard-sino 2021-05-10 18:59

I like disguising as a cactus!

nakami 2021-05-11 10:54

Boss one of your cactus escape from your cactus room !

Great game ! I love the humor.

Field of view a bit broken but it's ok. On my second run I just run through almost without stopping and finished it :/

filgru 2021-05-11 21:11

This is hilarious!:) The music and the grayscale art are fantastic. It was so fun to play, especially as a cactus:) I really like the animations of transformations into someone else. Congrats to the team!!! Great work!!

blubberquark 2021-05-12 10:48

ld48_dieper.png

I wish the diagonals (pressing up and left on the keyboard) were aligned with the iso grid. More on that in my [rant about isometric controls](https://blubberquark.tumblr.com/post/621835025877499904/isometric-controls)

I love the mood and the audio, especially on the win screen.

chartle 2021-05-12 15:01

@blubberquark the clipping is an unfortunate side effect of first-time-doing-isometric-in-unity-during-a-gamejam-itis  The diagonals is a fair point. Thanks for your feedback!

preda 2021-05-18 18:34

Really loved this game, the specific cactus comment and all was really nice!

caiolima 2021-06-29 23:41

I really enjoyed the hitman aspect of making disguises to accomplish missions! Great entry congrats! o/
