Really interesting game! I like it!

Question 5.png

shugor 2020-04-21 02:38

Untitled.png I like the art and the concept, although I didn't get too far since it got stuck on this expression. The bird and plants were still working, but the character was frozen in place.

alexrose 2020-04-21 02:55

@shugor ah thought I got this, I'll patch it tomorrow. I believe that's what happens when you eat and die simultaneously (so you were dead anyway on the uphand). did it happen more than once? it should take less than 2 mins to get to the ultimate form if you feed quickly and throw faeces at the birds or click them away

the intro mechanic is mildly interesting but the actual cool part is when you reach his form

alexrose 2020-04-21 10:12

@shugor I believe I fixed that bug now but I'm not sure. Is there any chance you could check for me? I think it is tied to the bird knocking you out of your eating state so I tried killing all coroutines when you get hit. I really hope that works.

edit: nah it was that the check for whether you were dead and therefore it shouldn't evolve you into a new form was different from whether the check to make you actually die lol

annie-owl 2020-04-21 15:36

That was a nice throwback to childhood when all sorts of on-screen helpers were hip and cool. Graphics, sounds, and humor are top-notch, as usual :ok_hand:

abdurrahman-khallouf 2020-04-21 17:31

can you patch the game after submission? I would like the game more if it was alive while I am actually working and stuff.

also how do you make a game like that in Unity. didn't know that you can do that...

my bear looked very weird when it got old. is this something that happens all the time?

sheepolution 2020-04-21 18:17

Really cool game Alex. Incredible how it works like a real desktop buddy. Love the ending. Well done!

alexrose 2020-04-21 20:02

@annie-owl <33

@abdurrahman-khallouf lol it's funny because originally when I started making it and it was just a bear that rolled around, I left it on the screen all day. as I added gameplay it became too hectic and I had to move it off

@sheepolution thanks sheep <3

andrewjadams 2020-04-22 00:34

That is the cutest bear... gotta say I'll never get tired of throwing crap at birds.

alexrose 2020-04-22 05:45

@andrewjadams thanks, I just watched your stream and loved your reaction, especially when you threw the shit at the bird for the first time

blay09 2020-04-22 20:30

Nice graphics and interesting tech rendering straight to desktop. Also enjoyed the little touches like fruits falling to the ground when dropped. Sounds sounded good too and helped with the mood at the ending!

Sometimes putting poop on the crows felt kinda awkward, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to just stab them with it or drop it on them, as sometimes neither option would work. Either way I am now awaiting the rise of Desktop Buddy idle games.

n-feofentov 2020-04-23 20:29

That's definitely an interesting approach to the theme! Love the progression of bear's forms and that shit has two applications)

terry 2020-04-24 07:19

This is cool - really excellent fit for the theme!

aurel300 2020-04-24 19:25

We streamed your game with Danae: [link to Twitch VOD](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/598538752?t=04h07m07s) (approximate timestamp)

This was fun, reminded me of some desktop toys in the 2000's. The turn from a cute bear into a disgusting monster was interesting. It would have been nice to have different ways to grow the bear if fed different foods. (And maybe that is the case but we only played it once!)

mandarad 2020-04-25 15:20

This is a super cool take on the theme. I audibly gasped when I killed my first bear :(

Great job!

simon-rahnasto 2020-04-25 21:35

This the 16th Rude Bear game that I play, and I am not disappointed. It's so interesting how each Rude Bear game is so different from the previous ones. I have never seen any game that takes place on my desktop like that. I had the ldjam page open and it was a challenge to not accidentally click and do a bunch of random stuff, haha

The art was fantastic as usual, same goes with the sound effects. I did manage to keep my bear alive, though he was not much of a bear in the end :bear:, the ending itself was great!

Overall a great entry!

langotriel 2020-04-25 22:57

If there is anything rude here it's that darn crow. Who does he think he is? I am just trying to feed my cute bear and it's messing with my shit!

Anyway, this game was pretty clever, had fun animations, was a breath of fresh air in terms of concept/execution (something different done well) and was just fun to play. Look forward to the next Rude Bear! :D

adhesion 2020-04-27 00:21

Was hoping someone would make a tamagotchi game! This is great, the concept is awesome & the art is solid. Loved the ending too. Would have been cool to see more interactions/unique stuff happening (it's a pretty straight shot if you just feed him the right stuff) but it's a complete experience as is. Great work!

kaylaschroter 2020-04-27 01:00

Loved how immersive the game was, I haven't experienced a game with transparent background before! The progression of sound effects the bear makes were super funny. Playing with just a trackpad was a bit of a challenge, I kept accidentally selecting text on the window behind the game. Overall, great game! I had fun playing.

melomel 2020-04-27 05:18

I think... I fed him too much? LOL great.

z4v0 2020-04-28 09:14

sweet bear :) XD

andidebob 2020-04-29 12:46

I actually watched this game being made on stream a bunch. I don't know if you ever got around to implementing the later stages, since my little bear keeps dying after growing once. A really cool idea though and a nice implementation!

alexrose 2020-04-29 17:48

@andidebob if you throw shit at the bird it will go away for like 30 seconds, only takes a few berries to get from stage 1-2

either that or you keep feeding it grey mushrooms and his own shit without realising it

tricky-fat-cat 2020-05-01 18:19

It's a hilairious game and yet another great addition to the rude bear universe!

fatpenguin 2020-05-02 11:03

It was disturbing to find out that you can feed your bear its own turds but also very funny at the same time. I like this tamagotchi desktop overlay approach. Overall very nice entry =)

kerelolivier 2020-05-02 11:25

The BSoD scared me for a bit. But all in all a pretty cool game.

2020-05-02 15:27

@alexrose was ClickBox (https://sokpop.itch.io/clickbox) from Sokpop an inspiration? Still a good game :)

edit: I'm sorry, I didn't want to offend you - I used the wrong words... "Still" was misunderstanding in this context. I like the games of Sokpop and thought you know them - if not you could have a look at their games (you might enjoy them). Again sorry for upsetting you...

alexrose 2020-05-02 17:04

nah I don't buy/play games lolz but I know the sokpop guys and they make a lot of cool stuff

it was an idea I had about a year ago after DanielCake made his desktop dancing hagrid on twitter and the theme fit so I was like, eh whatever

alexrose 2020-05-02 17:13

noamraz 2020-05-02 22:12

Holy shit that's so cuteeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love ittt!! Inovation 5/5

cheesepencil 2020-05-03 17:27

lol @ accusatory nature of anonymous comment

Works well, character art is good. I didn't get too far but I didn't run into any obvious bugs either, so kudos

trexxak 2020-05-06 04:45

You got me with the ending! While I _did_ expect something like that, I still was a few seconds away from panicking :'D

Well done! Really makes you think why desktop games aren't explored more!

weeping-rupee 2020-05-08 07:09

Loved it.

I played it on my stream and the VOD is here if you're interested:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/614622043

alexrose 2020-05-09 15:13

@weeping-rupee Thanks so much! Your playthrough was so good, it was so cool how you drew him an environment and I'm glad you worked out the mechanics of the mushrooms and the crow faeces.

often when I make games there is like a quintessential playthrough that I link people to when I'm showing my jam games, yours is definitely going to become the one for RBGotchi. Do you have a youtube channel too where you rehost twitch content? if not maybe I could post edit it a little and post it to my channel with a link to your stream?

Looking forward to playing your game this weekend too
