I got through this one. I'm getting better at figuring out your games/or whatever system it is that you are using to create these text adventures. I'm getting better at the commands and it wasn't as difficult to navigate around this time and pickup on important things to do and take/see etc. Lots of leeches too. wow! Nice. :-)

Very impressive and nicely written text-adventure-type game!

Got a shock stepping out of the helicopter!! Didn't expect sounds in a text game, :rofl: It just shows I played the game before, reading the game description! Won't do that again. I'm not good at this at all.. But did find a coconut, but didn't get my arm fixed. Like your writing style. :thumbsup:
@commanderstitch Well done! I think I'm learning to make these things actually playable too. @hedgy thanks! @incd021 Yes, it's probably all a bit loud :) This is the first time I did sound effects, and I think I didn't get the volume right yet... At least you got a coconut out of it :)

I tried to "cut legs" but it didn't let me! Well done!
@jeremyfa thanks! For some reason though I only thought of "cut off legs" and "amputate legs", so for "cut legs" you got the default response. Still appropriate though :)
Kind of wish there was a command to see possible (excluding "special") commands but either way very interesting. Sounds scared me, could be a bit quieter.
@clayton-does-things sorry about the sounds. Yes, they are too loud, I'm still very new in that area, even more than in making text adventures. Getting a list of commands that would do something useful in a given situation isn't something infom7 does easily (or at all, probably), so doing that would be fairly complicated. I started out trying to highlight things here and there, but I probably didn't do enough. Thanks for trying the game!
Great job! The audio really did add to the game/immersion as I played through and figured out what commands to do. I was rescued at the end, so my expedition was a success! Was Henry a guide of sorts, or does he just run around a bit random?
@redhermit thanks! Henry just runs around randomly (or rather, he stays where he is until you go there, then he goes away). He's really just a combination of filling out the world a bit and a nod to another online community I'm in.

Nice classic text-adventure style. I've never used inform7, but now I think I may have to check it out.
@pvg thanks! I do too much java in my job, so inform7 is refreshingly different.

I always love your text adventures. :) Nice little story. Sounds definitely add a lot of immersion. I believe, making text adventures is harder then usual games because writing sure needs more polish to be enjoyable. And I enjoyed this one a lot!
@yngvarr thanks for playing! I'm not convinced text needs more polish, consistent looking and nice graphics always seem hard to me!
Every LudumDare I totally like these type of games, because the genre seems to be totally dying but people like you keep them Alive (Keep it alive you get it??XD) and make such nice games. I totally lieked the implemented Sounds and Music and the the writing was really good.
Had some Fun and looking forward to the next game of you
@deathstorm thanks for playing it. I enjoy making them, and the thought of having to have graphics and animation fills me with dread, so I'm happy in my niche :)

Had fun with this one, the bold text hints were a nice touch.
@trusty thanks! Over the LD editions I keep experimenting with what style of being helpful produces the least complaints while still letting me think it's a proper text adventure :) The bold text seems to work reasonably well so far, although I realise I haven't really used it consistently enough.
Waaaw first time I play to this kind of game! It was extremely cool, I liked it a lot. Even with no graph but just text, I felt really invested on this jungle. Great!!
@bastinus-rex as the Infocom ads said in the 80s, "We draw our graphics from the limitless imagery of your imagination – a technology so powerful, it makes any picture that’s ever come out of a screen look like graffiti by comparison" :)
I have to admit I got frustrated a little at first. It was my first time playing this type of game, so I thought it was essentially a "choose your own adventure" type story. I started trying things with the arm, no luck, even though I had all the items. Eventually I figured out the coconut. And on one occasion I got a hint because I tried a few too many times. That was when I realized I had to play around with the words in the commands, and that was what did it for me. I started trying different word combinations and got happy when I figured things out! Was out of there and healthy in no time! I really liked the waterfall and yes, while I did jump at the first sound effect, I expected the others and they really set the mood for me.
The frustration on my part was the lack of experience in these types of games, so not your fault. But I have to admit I enjoyed it and am happy I played it! Thank you for introducing me to a new type of game!
@ladymistleaf welcome to the genre!
I think this game was much easier than your last one? I didn't struggle as much this time :D Maybe it's just easier when you know what to type? I think you did a great job at hinting those verbs by the way. The experience was very enjoyable and I could really focus on exploration and interacting with the world to check my hypothesis, which is what I really enjoy doing in these games. The sound effects were a great addition as well. One day you might want to turn on of these into a point&click adventure game? With a few more puzzles and nice art, it could be amazing. Anyway great job, looking forward to the next one!
@spacemonkey the last one was a bit weird of course. I tried to make this one easier. "Nice art" doesn't sound like something I could do, so maybe it'll be pure text for the immediate future :)
Ooh! Nice adventure. I had fun with it. The sound effects were a nice touch too, not many text adventures have sound effects like this one. Great work!
@blobo thanks! I enjoyed making the sound effects, I'll try to continue making them for future games
I enjoyed playing this, but I found the tips came in too late, so that I had lost by the time that I got the tips, but that could just be me being new to this type of game.
Nice game !! I enjoyed it :D Maybe quite too long for me but it's ok! Congratulations for your entry!
@thatothernerd thanks for playing! If you lost the way I think you did (and unless there's a bug that should be the only way), I thought there was enough warning, but I could be wrong. On the other hand, I'm not convinced being able to die was the right decision anyway...
@laura-del-pino thanks! I don't know how long it took you, I've seen people need 20 to 30 minutes, which I agree is on the long side for a ludum dare game (although there are games that need a lot longer than that). I'm worried that the game would be a bit trivial if I made it much shorter though.

Nice style of game - I like the little asides, especially the unicorn hiding behind the banana leaf. I got stuck, though - whenever I tried to clean my arm after getting water, it said that my arm didn't need cleaning, but it wouldn't let me sleep until I cleaned my arm... which was a problem (and I tried restarting, but got stuck the same way) - I spent a long time wandering around, but didn't find a way forward. The sound effects were nice - I had expected them to be a bit cheesy when I first noticed they were there, but they were actually really tasteful and effective.
@meelo sorry about that, I should have provided a hint when you try cleaning your arm !> You need to "clean wound". Probably "clean arm" should have just worked as well, I clearly didn't think that through properly.
Awesome work! Had fun with this one, I love text adventures, great to see someone make one for the Jam!
I had a lot of fun, even if I didn't really understand all the concepts of the game. The ambiance was cool!
@stolen-biscuit thanks! I like making them, even though I'm terrible at playing them :) I do like variety in a jam!
@pierallard Glad you had fun! Did you have problems with specific game concepts, or general text adventure stuff? Anything I could help avoid next time?
Nicely written, I wish there were more text adventures in Ludum Dare, like this one!
@splitpainter I agree! There's too much unidot or whatever it's called :)
You had me at "The crash-landing went well" :smile: The adventure kept my interest, even though (logically for the limited jam time) there were a lot of things I couldn't examine and try to break. I enjoyed wandering the jungle. I only wonder if there was a way to catch Henry - I couldn't find any, he was running away too fast! A mystery of Henry and a unicorn.
It is very nicely written and I didn't notice any mistakes (and I always pay attention to text closely and see stuff others would ignore, a professional quirk :)). In the end I was saved and both me and the Orchid were in great condition. I headed the warning about sound effects and I lowered my volume too much - I think I missed out on some sound effects at the beginning. But I bumped the volume up again after a time of not hearing anything.
It is a really solid LD entry. I say - good jam job!
And, I even made a "map" in Notepad++ while playing :) Screenshot_5.png
@fabula-rasa thank you for playing! I know there's at least one typo in it :) !> No, you can't catch Henry. He's mainly there to make thins seem more alive. He runs away when you go where he is, and then doesn't move until you find him again.
Nice map! :)
@frank-gevaerts Dammit! Now I need to find it ;)! The typo, I mean.
@fabula-rasa "This particular banana leaf seems to have been recently half cur-off" :) I blame my keyboard!
You already witnessed me chasing after Henry and the unicorn, and competently picking the leeches off my legs without even looking, still here it is, last week's stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUmP-nl1pVw
