Loved how you merged 2D and 3D elements to create this nice arcadey experience; great work!

Extremely well done by one person in 48 hours!
Cute idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/6SpOkik3XNg
Quite cool, really interesting mix of 2D pixel art and 3D =] Good job!
Great job Matt! What a cute and atmospheric concept. Also, I didn't actually play in VR, but I noticed when I launched it automatically attempted to launch Steam VR because I had my headset plugged in. Does this have VR support? If so, you might be one only VR games in the compo category and should advertise that! In any case, great job! I loved the boss fight, and the visual indicators for health were very intuitive and fun.
Had a lot of fun fussing over my human :) The animations and environment were lovely and he gameplay was very well done!
@thebreakfast Hmm... I'm not sure why the game thought it would work in VR. Maybe that's a built-in Unreal Engine thing that I'm not aware of. ... Now I want to play this low-res sprite game in VR, hahaa! XD
@mattwoelk I've tried a few "2d" games in VR and it's honestly been consistently one of my favourite types of VR games to play. It feels like a diorama. I didn't try your game in VR, though I imagine the camera follow would cause some discomfort. If you looked at the whole level like a table top or something it might actually be a neat take on the game. That being said, it was fun in 2D mode! :)
Love it! The visuals and motion of the dog are so charming :)
I love this game, the dog barking to scare off enemies is pretty funny
The combination of 2D and 3D is pretty interesting. I also appreciate that you can unlimitely revive the main character, otherwise the game would be quite hard. Maybe the barking can also interact with the enemies, now I really just feel like a medic.
I can finally comment again!
Ok so: First of all, super cute style and theme. I love the dog's animation and sound when walking. Gameplay was intuitive, although I was a bit confused by the icons at the start of the game. Felt like they should have had button symbols under them. Besides that, everything was easy to understand and smooth. It definitively feels like something that can be expanded upon. It would end up being a balancing act so that the player feels like they have agency (since they're not the main character), that it doesn't feel like a prolonged escort quest, while still keeping the theme and style you already have. Would be even cooler if eventually it could be co-op.
Anyways! Super fun, super cute, very smooth.
Great visual treatment!
For the curious, here's a whole thread of behind-the-scenes information about how I made this game: https://twitter.com/MattWoelk/status/1252051543064317952 thread.PNG
Amazing graphics, this goes without saying ... and seeing the behind the scenes you had very clever strategies to create this. sound effects are also nice, the music creates quite a misterious atmosphere
What a heartwarming take on the theme! Great concept and tidy execution.
Honestly, out of some 6 ludum dares I've participated in, I think this might be my favorite project. I'm a dog fan, so maybe I'm biased, but this is one of the most touching games I might have played, much less for an LD entry.
I really loved this. Seriously great work.
Thanks for showing some of the behind-the-scenes! Especially impressed that you even made your own font. Dog CPR was obviously the best part.
Cool game, very well done, even a custom font. Nice. It fits the theme. Good job!
Loved the paper-like sprites! Yoyur entry was solid and very interesting. Keep up the amazing work!
Wow. This game causes sooooo much "aaaaaaaaaw"s.
Very effective in conveying certain emotions.
I finished the game without the guy dying and then I saw: CPRs.
You know I just HAD to start over and let it die so I can CPR him.
In any case, as a dog lover, I APPROVE THIS GAME!
A super cool and really well made combo game. Well done.
Loved the graphics and movement of the dog. Idea about the theme was awesome. The idea of keeping the hooman alive is cute and lovely. One of the best game I played so far.
I love the look of this game! I want to spend more time in this world. I hope you plan on expanding it. Excellent job!
Super cute, very visualy appealing. 5 :star2: I agree with many of the comments, need more of this.
This game was adorable, simple, and fun. Felt very relaxing to play
Neat little game. I like the idea of having to play as the support character rather than just fighting things. It felt like an escort mission without any real stakes since you can just revive the human whenever they die. Being able to stun the enemies is nice since you can't actually attack.
Oh, this is really cute
Holy crap this was amazing. I can't believe you did this for the compo. Perfect.
