Neat idea!
Although I was a bit confused at first (I didn't talk to the chicken lady and went straight into the barn to collect eggs, which didn't really end well x3), this game is pretty fun!
The graphics are nice, they could be improved with more "texture" to them (I'm thinking things like lighting and shadows), but considering that you were only two and had only so little time to do it, and that you made many, many graphics, I'd say they're nice!
The game controls really fine and is fun to play!
Maybe the lack of background music is the main downside, but once again it is one that I can understand considering that this is a game jam game with only two people working on it!
Overall, fun idea, nice game, and I'm sure that with a little more time on your hands it would have been even better!
New_Piskel.gif
I had a lot of fun playing your game! The idea with the robo-chicken is really cool and unique :D I like how you split the game up into several areas, so you have a fair chance to progress but can also go back to the previous area. A little background music (or farm noise) would have been nice, but for the short time given, the game turned out really good!
Very nice game, i got stuck in the warehouse cuz i swear every last one of these damn chickens were free but I propably am just blind
A nice idea! I really liked the walking animation on the chicken suit, it felt... chickeny :).
It is indeed not obvious from the game itself that you should equip yourself before venturing forth and there really should be something happening when you get to 0% durability (I missed the fact that I died few times ;)). Some more audio and background music would really bring it out.
A really fun game. I really love the art style. The animations are really well done and the Level design is also quite good but could see some improvements. Overall, a nice and charming experience. However, there were few grave bugs where my egg counter went negative and at one point the mecha chicken just stopped its animation and started drifting away. Although being a jam entry, it's quite good.

@der-finski Unfortunately, it was a mad scamble in the last hour and we didn't get a chance to add an end screen but well done for completing it and thank you for playing!

@tony-artz Thanks for pointing out the issues! It's possible that you were dead when the chicken started drifting but we didn't get a chance to add a game over screen so you end up just drifting from still being shot  We only noticed the negative egg counting after we managed to play test after submission so thanks for letting us know and we will definitely fix it!
Cool idea and mechanics. A few rough corners but a nice experience nevertheless. Somehow the collected eggs kept disappearing and I even had a count of -2/36 at one point. x)

Loved it! So cute and funny. I got confused by the drifting chicken as well, so an end screen would really help! It'd also be good to have a health bar on the farmers so I can see how much damage I'm doing to them?

Fun game. Those farmers have great aim!
Bullets could be a bit bigger, it was hard to dodge them. Basket item certainly add a flavor, but I think it's not necessary. When I wanted to buy machine gun I could barely afford I just went through the level and came back with baskets to pick up eggs after that.
Art looks awesome, I just wish there were some more sound effects, like for walking.
Cheers!

When my shield drops down to 0% I cant move anymore, I guess this is game over? Overall, Good Game! I liked gameplay, art and music, especially bullets hitting me!
Found it a little confusing in the beginning but it ended up being quite a fun game. I love the humour!
Nice game. Its like Robocop but about chickens.
Seems to be nice audio, I liked the sound of bullets when they hit my shield. It sounds like hitting a saucepan with a metal. The graphics is pretty ok too, I like animated sprites.
Pretty cool! I found myself playing for quiet a long time! Loved the graphics and the idea you can build your armor! What it lacks is a super cool mechanical walking sound effect, this would make you feel huuuge! Also, the bullet could be bigger since aiming and left/right click is quiet critical. I think you should continue this post jam, it has a great potential for a fun game! And don't forget toadd some epic chicken music, post jam! :D Awesome.
I couldnt really play the game as the controlls didnt work for mw

@tero-pulkkinen That may be exactly what that noise is  All the sounds were recorded in about 10 minutes on the last night in my kitchen

@riccastudio Oh no! Sorry to hear that! What exactly was not working? Would like to be able to fix it for future players! Thanks
I could only move with 4 2 8 6 on the num pad, and interaction or shooting didnt work at all. Keep me updated, id like to play your game at some point.
Fun idea! Really like the graphics and mood, sound effects were also good. Would want a little bit faster paced game play. But my attention span is low. I can tell you put a lot of heart into this though, especially with the little egg hidden in the bush ;).
Good job guys, keep it up!

@jetthesimon Thank you so much! There are a ridiculous amount of eggs hidden all over the place! I think I went a bit overboard
Great game! Maybe the AI could be more clever, but it was OK.
Great game!
I really enjoyed playing it!
It was a bit confusing at start, 'cause it doesn't start with weapon. Maybe it could start with a initial weapon and basket and then acquire better ones with the chicken.
The things I liked most are the mood, graphical effects and SFX!

I'm not yolking. That was an egg-cellent game!
As @fernando-tonon-de-rossi said, starting with a basket and a weapon could help a little bit to understand the beginning of the game. The sound FX made me laugh.
It overall quite fun. Is there an ending mechanic? Once I have freed all my chicken friends, I staid stuck without nowhere to go.
Good job!

The sfx are so good as the concept and graphics. Nice game :3
Really liked the game! The sounds of shots hitting your shield were great! Maybe I needed more firepower because I struggled to fend off those pesky farmers

Cool idea, I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong though. The pea shooter attachment didn't seem to do much damage, and I couldn't pick up eggs. If everything worked as I expected though I think it's a great game idea.
Spent way more time with this than I thought I would. :D Got to the end. Brought havoc and devastation to the world, but hey, animal liberation!
eggswithleggs.png
I found the machinegun to be way more effective than the flamethrower, so I went for two machine guns as early as possible. Most of the "bad guys" didn't even react to getting shot as I guess the distance was too high for them to see me. So they just stood there and and died in peas.
Your inventory actually being visible in the game and rotating around you is a pretty fierce detail btw. Had fun, great game, well done!

@very-dark-lord Haha yeah I think something broke with the flamethrower in the final hours of coding so the range is really bad. Thank you for acknowledging the belt, I spent far too many hours on that... the egg count is actually tracked per basket and drawn in there, as well as individually hitboxed so you lose eggs from individual baskets  Glad you enjoyed it!
teto
2020-04-24 21:33
@very-dark-lord OMGGGG thank you so much for appreciating the belt!!! Seemed like a great idea intially but I almost killed myself drawing the 5 different attachements because @ciaranw wanted everything to be 8-directional  You're defo right about the machine gun being the better option but like @ciaranw mentioned, I think it broke a bit which is only a little bit annoying given that that was the one that broke me when I was drawing it

@cobear25 Yeah the peashooter doesn't do much but should take about 4 hits to kill a farmer but once you get machine guns, it becomes much easier! Also, you need to get a basket to be able to collect the eggs so not sure if you just missed that! We would have added some text to make things clearer if we'd had time but unfortunately, we couldn't :frowning2: Thanks for playing though and feel free to have another go!

First of all, awesome! I think that's the game I played the longest this jam so far. I love dual stick shooters and the absurdity of this on (eggs with legs, come on!) only helped sell this to me. The amount of content is great and the upgrade mechanic works great. I was very happy after I was dual wielding machine guns, mowing down farmes and factory workes. Very satisfying :P . Sound effects were nice too. The pee-shooter effects fit the mood very well.
And as much as I loved the time I had, there are (of course) several things that bugged me. I'll skip the missing musical score, because I guess you wanted that too, but didn't have the time for it. No big deal! - Running speed was too slow for the size of the maps. There was lot of backtracking involved in finding all the precious eggs and it felt like my time was wasted a bit. Increases to the running speed would've made great upgrades! - The bullets were WAY to small. I had to squint to see them on top of the floorboards. Since getting hit can get troublesome very fast, clear visuals for the bullets is a must have. - The enemies were very good at shooting the robo-egg, a bit too good. They were already starting to shoot from off-screen and, with the way the shooting works with the robo-egg, it was almost impossible to hit the enemeies back with accuracy, since the bullets targeted the mouse cursor. Also, I don't like getting shot by enemies off-screen. I think they should adhere to the same visual limits as I have to :) they may shoot, but the aim should off! - The flamethrower was not a good weapon. It basically killed my run after purchasing it, because I had to get in relatively close. In the last level, that was the last you want. I instantly died after three of the factory workes ganged up on me. - Some checkpoints or save spots for when you died would've been great. The game is pretty long for a jam title and death awaits behind the next corner. It was a but frustrating to die and having to start all over (especially with the slow running speed)
So much for feedback. Loved your little game nontheless. Thanks! Cheers

@duke Thanks so much for the in-depth feedback, we really appreciate it! I agree with all of your points, so we might add some into a post-jam version if we get around to it. It's always good to know what it is that stands out to players! Regarding the flamethrower, yeah it unfortunately turned out a bit crap, not quite as powerful as we were hoping, and we didn't get to add sounds for it either :( (although it is possible to sell items with right click!)
@duke I also had trouble with the slow running initially, until I realized it was caused by recoil (because just to be sure, I kept shooting ahead of me all the time). I then turned to shooting behind me in hopes to accelerate, although I'm still not sure whether that made a difference to not shooting, but it certainly felt like it did. :D
By the way, I found the initial possession of 25 eggs combined with the prices in the store pretty good, it basically made "peashooter + shield + basket" the only reasonable seeming option (to me that is), so the game basically "forced" me to discover the key mechanics on my own in a space where I dind't have much to lose. That's the kind of thing easily overlooked during development, when to you all the mechanics are perfectly clear and you sometimes fail to realize players have no clue what's going on initially. So whether that piece of "balancing" was fully intentional or not, it certainly proved helpful.

@very-dark-lord You're right, if you constantly shoot behind you, it does speed you up  We did try and make sure there were enough eggs at the start to be able to get the core items without also restricting you to just getting a weapon and basket so glad you had fun!

The name itself attracted me to play it and I really enjoyed the gameplay. The characters art and animation was on point. I guess you should work with the player speed. Overall I think this concept is really cool. Good Luck for your future projects!

@abiral Thanks for the feedback! The name and concept originally came from an idea that my very sleep deprived brain came up with at 3am!
Loved the concept and the humour! I wasn't sure how to get to the eggs behind the boxes. Keep up the great work! :grinning:
teto
2020-04-25 18:13
@epiphanyg Thanks so much! You can destroy the boxes but admittedly, they take a fair emount of shooting with just the peashooter! Hopefully you managed to find enough of the plethora of eggs I hid to buy some better weapons!
It looks very interesting. For some reason, I had problems with audio and no background music was heard (although maybe it just isn’t, idk)
It's hard to defend against mobs, but it makes the gameplay more interesting I think. Nice job!

2020-04-26 17:33
@circleoflife Unfortunately we didn't get time to add any background music but it will definitely be something we add if we decide to carry on developing it post jam!
Wow, what an insane amount of graphical assets in such a short time! I really enjoyed the look of it all and once I figured out what the game wanted of me and how to get a gun mounted, things started to click together. Maybe start the player with a basket and a gun mounted already because once I figured out what I was looking at in the shop screen everything made sense. I would have also like the projectiles to be a little bigger at times. 😅 Here's the video with my playthrough, towards the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2FekepgpMs PS: I just realized that the video on YouTube is still only 2 hrs long, because I streamed for longer than that. Please check back in a couple of hours, then it should work!

@philstrahl Thank you so much for all the in depth feedback and the feature in your video! Was definitely eye-opening seeing someone other than ourselves playing the game! After initial feedback, we did try and make it a little more obvious what to do by putting more detail in our description and we would have liked to add some comments/descriptions in the shop as well. You can also right click in the shop to sell items so you definitely could have afforded the machine gun earlier and gotten a second one as well but of course, without it being in the actual game, it is difficult to remember everything in the description! The text was done in the last hour and clicking through would definitely be a good idea also so it's not looping and will be added if we decide to develop this post-jam! Slow movement speed is also something we had a lot of feedback about so we will speed the walking up or maybe add a run/dash button like you suggested which would mix things up nicely. We did intend to do more enemies but a grenade-type sounds awesome and will definitely be something I'll have fun drawing! Like I said in the description, we didn't get time to add an ending screen for when you free all the chicks but well done on completing it and thank you again! Learnt a lot from your playthrough! (PS thank you for appreciating the belt! A lot of work went into that! Especially since Ciaran wanted everything to be 8-directional so everything had to be drawn 8 times...)
All these eggs are giving my Animal Crossing bunny day flashbacks! :rage::anger:
Awesome art but everything was so damn tiny! The biggest offender of course being the bullets. Seeing them was near impossible. Of course this got better on the later levels with better contrast but they just would need to be bigger. The text was also too tiny and didn't even fit the box.
The shop really suffered from the tinyness too. And not like there was any shortage of screen estate here...
eggshop.png
Could have used some descriptions for the items too.
The control scheme wasn't great for someone playing on a touchpad without actual buttons. It was physically impossible to shoot both weapons at the same time so I just had to work around with using one. And of course I bought a second one before realizing this and postponed by machine gun (overpowered goodness in comparison) purchase by a lot. There was like no reason to bind weapons to individual buttons. I mean, why would you only shoot one of them?
The enemies felt too bullet spongy and it was too easy to outrange them. And even before I started outranging them, I was just zigzagging back and forth while keeping the mouse button pressed. Not the most encaging combat really. The action even felt kinda slow. And those long egg gathering runs and laps back to shop made it even slower. There could be a fun functionality (just off combat maybe) to make these shopping trips more bearable. Or maybe the vendor could kinda follow you from a safe distance so that the shop would never be that far. The enemy hitbox also felt wonky. It seemed like I kinda had to hit them on the head part of the sprite. And same for sure didn't seem to apply to the player character. The bad accuracy didn't really help either, just made the pacing even slower.
Also would have been nice to reorganize the eqipped stuff on the mech egg. Guess the positions didn't really matter much though. The equip wheel thing could have described better too. Sure it's kinda obvious now after playing and of course has always been crystal clear to yourself but it was confusing at first. Also would have been cool if you didn't limit to just two weapons. I wanted weapons all around the mechgg! And for more strategy in equipping stuff you could do something like shields doing more when they're on front or getting a bonus for having same pieces right next to each other or something along those lines.
Soo, I'm not sure what was supposed to happen here...
allchicks.png
While first clearing the room, I was careful not to shoot the cages because it wasn't clear whether I was killing or freeing them. And after clearing the room I saw the message and started blasting them. But still nothing. And it was very tedious to mow them all down because even the cages had too much health. And the lingering hitbox on them was super annoying too.
end.png
So yeah, that was the end of my run. Pretty fun game, just would require some slight improvements. Good job!

This was a really great game, the central mech-building mechanic is pretty cool, though would have been nice to see it expanded further. The components being visible and rotating around you were a great touch.
A few improvements that could be made (some of these are probably mentioned already): -The walking speed would have been great if it was about twice as fast. Backtracking to collect eggs/heal ended up taking quite a while to just get to where you wanted to go. -Being able to shoot enemies through fences as well as being able to shoot them without them reacting at all made parts a bit too easy.

Pretty cool game this, the idea is very unique and the game itself is actually challenging. The only thing which bothered me was that the walking speed was a bit slow but other then that I really enjoyed playing it, well done!
That little 3d effect of the parts rotating around the mech is smooth af! I love the goofy little idea of this chickenator based rise up. The cling clang of the sounds are also very satisfying. Great work on this one!

Amazing game, spent so long playing it!
