This has some pretty interesting mechanics. At first I couldn't get out of the first screen where you select your destination until i clicked submit again xD I liked it overall and I named my fleet "the gamedev menace"
I liked the game, even with slow speed in the skull destinations. It's hard. I played several times but only won once. I would love to have more information about possibilities % to FLEE or FLANK. No idea why I can flee or not. Nice game overall. Congratulations!
I loved it! 10/10
Really great game, had a good time going through it. The music and sound effects are superb!
Really enjoyed playing this. The battles are great, enhanced by the change of music. It feels like something that could develop into a fully polished game.
This is a nice one! Kind of a roguelite thing going on. Pretty good graphics, very nice and suitable music.
I do wish the combat offered some more variation. I couldn't really figure out what the better choice would be at any given moment. I assume the number of crew members at the cannons plays a part, but couldn't tell what part it was (I assume flat damage done on hit?)
All in all, I quite liked it.
It is so simple, but very funny and quite atmospheric (I think mostly because of music, though other parts of the game are fine too). Playing was easy, but for me it is good.
Ah, and I loved Star Trek allusions! The game referring to Kobayashi Maru, made me nervous, but it turned out to be not scary at all :)
I enjoyed it, but the problem is in one of the event - you lose 1 crew in each category. I lost all but 2 crew in each category (which effectively lost the game).
Great job! Me and my 7 and 8 year old sons played, and had a blast. Mechanically I thought it was solid. The sound was great and appropriate, the art looked good. I didn't feel a real connection to the theme, but overall a very solid entry. Maybe it would have been fun to be able to reposition the crew, during the voyage.
Nice game: loved the music and the graphics. However, the events felt a bit too random and unforgiving: on a peaceful route, I did put all my 8 crew member in cooking but still got a malus. I would like this game with more balancing.
I like this idea and hope you keep working on it! Being able to change where my crew is between sailing was a fun mechanic. The random events are a nice touch, but can be pretty mean sometimes.
On a side note, thanks for checking out our game! summy-intro.gif
What a great game! It's fun to play multiple times and it's fun dying multiple times. I critique the graphics and thought some outcomes were very unplausible with my crew status. Thanks for the fun times!
That was an awesome game! The music and the feel really pull you in!
Only downside I can think of is - I'm not quite sure how it fits with the theme all that well, but other than that, you had me playing for close to 20 minutes, the music and the art and all the everythings were superb. Keep up the great work! :)
I have the fastest ship in the navy, not only moves faster but it dies faster as well :D So I tried on a more of a defensive build and didn't really work... then I went balanced, and our ship "Raid Flyes and Mosquitoes" made it to the Danger Zone with overconfidence, that was our pride and our doom...
The game is cool, would totally work for a mobile/tablet game since doesn't require much attention and can be played just with happy little taping. Graphics were fun, I've seen the HELP signal while playing, as well as the flags, love little details like those!
The only thing I would suggest is to make it easier since doesn't absolutely depend on how well you are playing the battles. Also, it would be nice to repair the ship whit the money you've got, even if you can't afford all of it. Love it!
why is the rum gone? ;D
Yaiks! great game guys, so fun.
A nice game overall. FTL with pirates always hook me in (but I can't really see how it matches the theme?). It felt a bit too passive and random though, can't reassign crew, don't choose anything in the events, flanking doesn't seem to be really worth it (loose a good number of times to issue just one boosted attack, maybe if the bonus stay it would be more tempting)... And very hard also, crew dies a lot from events, and I encountered a ship that dealt 22 damage each hit.
Maybe a bit of balancing could do the trick, good job anyway.
One of the rare games I played multiple times. The idea of "crewmen as stats" is nice, and the naval battles were fun to play. Liked the music too.
cool game! the music was effective and well done
possible improvements imo: the assign crew UI looks more like an upgrade UI (which it functionally kinda is) but it seems less intuitive. Maybe something like drag and drop crew members or how KSP handles assigning crew would work. The combat seemed a bit lacking. I think a tiny part of it is that the choices were on the left, the menu of results/next button are centered or more right so you're constantly going back and forth. The turn based stuff can be cool but some people may not be crazy about the RNG events (you hit rocks, you lost one crew of everything). Overall, nice job. Quite polished given the time limit and pirates are always fun
Really cool game! The music is awesome and really effective. I love how you can have differents strategies to win. And the graphics are great too.
Really liked it. The random events are rather numerous, but that's just fun for an LD entry, cool to get to see a lot of things in short time. The "help" message on an island was funny, and putting the name of the ship on the side of it was a fun touch.

Really great music and sfx, but the battle music was louder than the sailing music. Also would have liked a sound for hitting the rocks rather than the cannon blast. the graphics were good. I seemed to have pretty bad luck the first go, which made it too hard. I kept loosing crew and never got any gold and by the time there were enemies I had no cannons an no means to buy cannons. The second time I played it seemed far too easy. I gained crew in all categories 4 times before the enemy ships and found random treasure. I wasn't quite sure what cooking did.. prevent scurvy? only one crew got scurvy so its hard to tell if it was related to me not having any cook. Any ways it was far too easy the second time... I would shoot for fine tuning the game to be in between somewhere. Or maybe develop even more of a strategy element. so its not mostly based on random events. I also would have liked to delegate crew duties while sailing. Cool Game!
Dramatic pirating "action" in this management game.
Likes: - good soundtrack - simple mechanics for the combats - seemingly quite a bit of stuff to discover, nice! - tutorial messages make it clear what needs to be done
Challenges: - it was weird because the "submit" button didn't always work, so at first I didn't understand how to actually sail somewhere - I get sunk by other ships consistently. maybe having flanking double as dodging would make things interesting
Loved the "Help!" written on an island in the background we sailed past. Didn't figure out flanking - if I did it, it always failed, so I died, restarted, and then whenever the enemy did it to me I seemed to do just as much damage to them after they did it...
My second voyage was quickly ended with a mutiny and my treasure going overboard, and then another mutiny :(. My 3 remaining crew members had no hope...
Next (after restarting a few times when I got something horrible right off the bat), I put half my crew in Cannons, and half in Cooking, and I seemed to take *way* less damage than before, any chance Cooking actually reduces damage? I guess damage went up later, maybe I was just getting lucky and getting weak ships (though almost all of them always did 6 damage for most of my journey).
Repairing seemed to only bring me to 100 hull, even if my crew in Hull brought my total to 200 :(
Finally beat a map once =).
Aaaaarh, this music is still in my head! Strategy is well thought, balance seemed accurate to me. Graphics and music are my favorites :)
This is pretty damn amazing! The graphics are very polished and the music is great. The mechanics are also well fleshed out, entertaining and nailbiting. Kinda reminds me of FTL a lot. The one problem with this game is that the random factor is just way to high. Sometimes you lose 4 crew members in one event, some other times the enemy ships are too strong and sometimes you're lucky. My strategy was to put all crew members into cooking on easy routes and hope for the best and after several tries I beat the game. Could very well see this extended into a full game if there was more meaningful decision making and less randomness. Overall though, I played this for quite some time and enjoyed it all the way, great job!
We streamed your game with Danae plays on Twitch. :) Here's a link:

Fun game. As has already been said in the comments here and in the stream, it reminds me of FTL. Where it diverts a lot from FTL is the lack of control over your crew during the individual segments. I feel the game would be more interesting if you could either move the crew around during the segments (could be limited to e.g. 1 crew movement per league point), or if the segments were shorter (but there was more of them). This way it felt like success was too dependent on RNG / luck.
Cool game anyway! :)
Awesome music, graphics, and gameplay. The game runs flawlessly, and is simple but very fun. I do think it could have been tied more to the theme of running out of power, though I understand that gold and crew, both of which must be used wisely, count as part of your nautical power.
Great job, I loved it!
Nice game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHHnWvZj4oQ
