The controls are very hard, but the main char is great, good job.
the controls - the controls - they are terrible - you need to fix them - use mouse to control movement, use arrows/wasd for lift - the graphics sure are pretty tho
Thanks for the feedback sPOCKEr2, I feel the controls are where the game is, but I didn't really have any time to add a proper tutorial, so sorry if you had a tough time with them.
I think that if the controls were just standard WASD, the game would be very dull, it might take another try for it to click.
I disagree with the terrible controls comment, I think it is actually incredibly satisfying to keep flapping the dude's wings in order to gain some serious speed and then swoop down. Although bouncing off of mountains felt a bit weird, perhaps that could have been a kill condition? Awesome stuff though man. P.s sound didn't work for me on the windows build? if there was sound that is.
Thanks for the feedback brainybeard I didn't have time to make any music, sorry! There'll be an updated build with that and more sometime in the near future. (not for the compo of obvs)
Innovative! Glad I gave you game a spin. Eye-candy. Will recommend to my friends and mention in my blog post :D
Thanks varuns, glad you liked it :)
When I first saw the game I thought it was a Jam game, very nice low poly aesthetic. Controls feel a bit wonky but that's kinda the point.
controls are bad to me, the flapping and steeering is nice but how to keep it going up and down is a little weird, when you fall you will turn upside down and have to restart basically, overall graphics are nice and idea is not bad, for the audio i think you just forgot to opt-out the category, iamrite? ;)
Yeah, I opted out of the audio now :)
Thanks for the feedback Ilseroth and Arvydas.
I think there are steps I could of done to ease the players in to the controls, but I ran out of time :(
yes, have a web version! I think the controls are a nice part of the challenge, but I do really wish that you had put an option to invert the Y axis. anyway, great, really fun, wonderful entry. I'm going to keep this one around on my computer - you should add in a free-flight mode, because I enjoy just flying around without any time limit :)
Thanks aberdeenphoenix, yeah I'll be adding a free flight mode post jam, I think adding in some sensitivity and axis inverting would really help!
Hard at the beginning but really challenging when you get it!
Good job! ^^
Cheers teamross I'm glad you had a good time.
This is great - one of the best games I've played so far!
I think a nice touch would be to make the mouse movement on the menu screen flap the wings like in game as a sort of pseudo-tutorial.
I love the control scheme and the overall game design.
Thanks guys, Sean, that's a great idea for a tutorial thanks for that, maybe I'll add it in a future version, and thanks for the kind words meganukebmp.
Don't listen to people complaining about the controls, they are spot on, it is a really enjoyable game.
It doesn't quite fit the theme but it is very fun to play and I would love to see it made into a proper game :)
Interesting game! Unique controls and quite a nice aesthetic! The only bug I found is that I fell off the map at some point because I hit a mountain :P
SuerIzzo thanks for the feedback, CYGLiDE is now a proper side project or me i think.
aemiliu5 sorry you encountered bugs! The collision detection doesn't take in to account speed, so it breaks at high speeds, I'll fix that in a future update, ugh it's like 1 line of code!
Really hard, but really interesting. I guess that with (many )time and training it could be possible to play normally. Animations are great and mood very relaxing. A good entry. Well done. Thanks ++
Awsome!!! ^^
Wonderful concept. The innovative controls and beautiful graphics make it very special. The game overall needs some more work/time ;) With some nice music the experience will be delightful!
I love everything about this, especially the aesthetics.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Geckoo1337, Falak, Robber and adsilcott, I'll be checking all your games out shortly!
The weird controls are an interesting experiment but I'm not really sure of how I feel about them. The bird creature looks nice!
Really hard controls o.O
Excellent!
I like the concept, but the controls need a little more work. Good work!
Thanks for the feedback APantaloni, coborax, treegemmer and Saladon. Your comments really help the future of this game.
Love the visuals in this, you did a great job at the Low-Poly graphics. Controls were a bit difficult to handle at first but flying around was great once you got the hang of it.
Once you get used to the controls, flying around is pretty fun! I'm impressed that the camera is decent (a lot of flying/third person type games have problems in that area) and I love the animation of the wings. The only major problems were that it wasn't obvious that I had 2 minutes to get as many rings as possible, and that my mouse started wandering away from the center of my mousepad and i had to keep moving it back. Other than that this is a pretty satisfying flight mechanic! If you do a post compo version, I'd love to see some more diverse levels with obstacles and maybe some sort of simple combat. Great job!
Liked the control scheme and the patience it requires to get used to it. That said, it's somewhat aggravating to find yourself stuck in a valley, unable to get up because you're panicking and moving the mouse cursor super-rapidly to get out. Thought it was a really relaxing experience once I got the hang of the controls. Not a fan of all the clipping bugs!
Really cool bird cyborg model! Since you're using Perlin noise to generate the landscape, there are some some quick and simple tricks you can do to prevent the bird from going through the ground: calculate the height of the ground below the center of the bird, and make sure the bird doesn't go below that. Also, when generating the landscape, use several passes of perlin noise at different scales and combine them together to make the landscale a bit more interesting. Check out my game "Where Bunnies Fly" on Gamejolt for some more ideas when you continue working on your game: http://gamejolt.com/games/where-bunnies-fly/134971
Ahh that perlin noise trick is fantastic and simple! I'm using just a bunch of short raycasts, and they don't change in length given your speed / framerate, hence the dodgy collisions. Great advice thank you very much!
Also I'm reminded I need to play your game andyman.
This is very cool. The graphics are awesome. Controls are very unique and interesting. 2 gripes: It's easy to get disoriented. Some kind of attitude gauge would be useful for telling if you're pointing up or down or whatever. Second, I managed to clip through the ground and was flying under the stage when going for a low hanging ring :) Good job overall though
An altitude gauge is a fantastic idea thanks nickavv.
It's a bit hard to control (I can see how moving the cursor can feel closer to the real motion and that sounds really cool in principle, but most of the time I didn't have a clear insight on why a specific cursor move action made the wings flap and why seconds later I tried to do the same and I just glided), but on the plus side the animations of the robot when I got the moves right were mesmerizing.
The environment is beautiful, too. With some sound and improved controls I can easily picture myself just flying around, as the experience had very immersive moments.
Considering that it's a compo entry you did an amazing job. I hope you keep improving it! :)
Thanks for the comment Ithildin.
UPDATE
I've fixed a collision bug some users at lower framerates were having with CYGLiDE, no more flying through the floor.
Tremendous game for a compo entry, I love the look and feel and hope you'll check out my entry which also has vertex shaded procedural terrain! As an addition to the advice about height testing, I'd add that it's better to save your heights into an array and look that up, than it is to keep doing perlin calculations. This also makes it easier to ramp up to a more complex terrain function if you wish. I found the controls a bit tricky and would also love to have an altitude indicator. The graphics are just beautiful, and the animation is delightful.
This is really cool! I like the control system, it's different n interesting! Also the graphics are wonderful
Yeah that's a good call on the height lookup goffmog, I'll have to remember that for the future, will check out your game at some point this evening. looks good!
Thanks for the kind words vethan.
I think the controls were smooth and well done.
Visually amazing! And a really cool game mechanic! More content, other than collecting rings would make it better, but of course that is not focus of this game. It is about the cool mechanic which I think you nailed! Well done!
Good job. This is a polished game made in 72h. Perfect hit!
48 hours actually pixel maiac :)
Really lovely little robot bird! The "feathers" on here were brilliant. I included it in my video compilation series of Ludum Dare games, if you’d like to check them out :) https://youtu.be/PdAuylbesI0
Love the animation on the 'wings' - super cool :) Started to get a strong sensation of flying as I got the knack of the controls. Awesome! I really wanted some atmospheric noises in there though (rushing wind etc) to complete the illusion - completely understand though, there just ain't enough hours for all that stuff :)
I actually quite liked the controls, though it did take me a while to get used to them and my poor desk suffered with how much I needed to move the mouse. The graphics are really stylistic and feel like a game from the hay-day, which I love.
As you know, I played it in my stream from 5:35: http://www.hitbox.tv/video/991443
Good aesthetics, but difficult to control
For me controls were pretty easy (a bit low the mouse sensivity but okay).
Lacks sound, but cool mechanic !
The mood was really nice, good taste with the colors :)
I would strongly suggest including a reverse vertical camera toggle. Overall very nice entry, I tried to do a backflip but I guess my spin speed wasn't enough and weirdly bounced into the mountains. Would be super cool to have some feedback for that momment, maybe a die condition or a more evident bounce.
I am not sure about the rings spinning when you are near, and it would be nice some have some clear routes to follow.
Great job, the game looks really nice :)
The graphics look awesome, 5 stars. I found the controls too hard, though (I was good in gliding in Batman: Arkham games, I could easily pass through rings). And I couldn't understand how it is related with theme.
Cool game. Nice gameplay mechanic, but I think it should have differente objectives
Great innovation, though it is hard to control it, I like the idea of flapping.
Graphics are cool, too
I liked the feel of the game, but had more fun flying through canyons than hoops, so I didn't get great scores. I couldn't decide if the player looked like a majestic eagle or a terror-robo-locust. Great job on this game!
Nice, visually stunning for 48h, the bird creature is very cool
The game came out well due to the very nice character design. Add to that the procedurally generated landscape and I have to say you achieved a lot in two days.
The main weak point is the challenge that might be improved by adding missions or levels. It may be even more rewarding if the gameplay was a bit snappier, which is in part due to the controls.
I guess a VR version might be worthwhile as it fits your mood and the control scheme better. That way it plays its strengths as an exploration type of game which does not need snappy controls and a challenge.
Look great but to slow on my conputer
