Oct 19 18:13:35 Sound of Night ♥ 0 Really nice tutorial and I feel like I learnt some morse code from it. The sound design was really good, you clearly put a lot of thought into replicating those kind of morse code signals coming down a wire. The text animation was a little slow and I found myself clicking to speed it up a lot. Perhaps having reveal the text being on a separate button to go to next text box would be nice. Perfectly fits the theme and has a nice minimalist aesthetic, great stuff!
Oct 19 18:32:48 19m 13s Stardust ♥ 1 This is amazing for a compo entry, the level of graphical detail is immense. That such a thing can be done on an HTML5 canvas with no game engine is incredible, I'll definitely be poring over the source to this one. The procedural soundscape is cool as well although a bit piercing. A video of a full run to blackhole would be nice as the gameplay is a bit slow and you have to keep restarting with a small boost from perks. I guess I just find this kind of roguelite game progression a little dull. Still this is an amazing looking and sounding entry. I'd love to know more about how you made it and the techniques involved :D
Oct 19 18:51:27 18m 39s The Red Baron takes flight again ♥ 1 Always look forward to a CaptainDreamcast game as the writing and narration with extra commentary is always so good. This one didn't disappoint on that front! Earth is canonically red. The gameplay segments were perfectly servicable with the boss having some neat bullet patterns. I feel like your plane could have done with being a bit faster and I guess the joke was that you had no reason not to be shooting the whole time. I did like Neptune on Neptune :D Thanks for making this and really making a statement about old tech, the Dreamcast is 27 years young now!
Oct 19 19:11:40 20m 13s Merry & Bright & CRI ≥ 95 ♥ 1 Painting patterns with 4 colours gets more interesting when you limit the number of times you can use colours across puzzles, neat. The graphical aesthetic is charming and lends itself to a cozy home environment, it feels like something you could give to kids as a puzzle to do over Christmas. I too was a bit confused that the checkmark wasn't a button at first, otherwise the actual buttons are charmingly handdrawn. I got 5 puzzles done before running out of blue lights but I'm sure with some thought I could get the other one done too. It's a shame there isn't some festive music to accompany this game. I did like the subtle animation to some of the lights. All in all a very neat entry. It's a mystery how it can be multiplayer, how did you do that? :o
Oct 20 15:24:51 20h 13m Evil East Conquest ♥ 1 This has a very unique retro aesthetic with the low resolution and colour choices, neat! The dithered fog effect was very nice and I did like how the tiny soldier sprites depicted their loadout and number. The music kicking in on the second screen was a nice effect. I have to say I really liked how well put together the interface was with tooltips and a clear style to it. Unit designers are always neat. Units were perhaps a bit too weak to start with and I found myself selling rams and then rebuying them right next to enemy towers because they were so slow. It looks like a challenging game what with early losses sticking around. That's not to say I didn't think this was a great entry, it really feels fully featured and I could see myself coming back to it. Making an RTS is an impressive feat for any game jam let alone the compo!
Oct 20 15:38:49 13m 58s Ultimate future: spaceship laser adventure, the new-age shooter ♥ 1 This is such a neat idea and wonderfully executed. I think my favourite iteration was the 2D with pixel art in the background although the ascii style was also very nice. The ending message was very heartwarming. A silly thing was that I hadn't noticed there was a double jump so that twist didn't phase me at all :P Perfect execution on the theme of old tech in some many different examples.
Oct 20 15:54:55 16m 06s The Cybersaga ♥ 1 I enjoyed the world building in this and it really did feel like doing a deep dive on the internet. Having the ability to select key words to search for out of emails and search results might have been nice and I wasn't sure if I was on the right track with some of the rabbit holes I went down. Really novel idea and I would love to know where the story goes.
Oct 20 16:04:30 9m 35s The little bot who could... SAVE THE WORLD! ♥ 1 The ambiance of being in a secret facility and avoiding detection was nice. Sadly the web build didn't seem to run very well and the sound kept glitching. The camera being affixed to the wall like a security camera was neat.
Oct 20 16:16:03 11m 33s OHP: Our Homework's Playable ♥ 1 The options really open up with the coloured tools and it was fun to work out the combos of coloured filter combined with the tools that could be made into bridges. I also liked getting to make my own character, it must have been fun to implement that. It's so long since I thought about overhead projectors so seeing them again made me smile. I don't think we ever had coloured filters on them though!
Oct 20 16:41:42 25m 39s Old Man Playing Old Game ♥ 1 A new way to interface with old tech, I'd have gotten nowhere without the cheats. The aesthetic and sound design really nail the vibe of this, Oldman isn't looking his best. I can totally see this going viral with streamers, congrats!
Oct 20 16:50:37 8m 55s Stonepunked ♥ 0 Charming pixel art and some satisfying sound effects. I didn't notice when my health went down due to the very similar colours. This really fits the theme and is a nice little score attack game.
Oct 23 18:35:23 73h 44m Argo ♥ 0 Really nice retro graphics, you gotta love those blocky pixelated textures. Good job on making an environment to run around in it felt suitably labyrinthine. Some fun storytelling through notes and the unlocking of more of the ship was neat. A good mini ImmSim.
Oct 23 18:54:52 19m 29s Fliptober: Retro Edition ♥ 1 Very calm and relaxed game. Nice art, I particularly liked the art on all the pieces of retro gadgets. I'm not sure Mr Trumpet is that smart as his cheating helped both of us. When I clicked on a piece too quickly after his turn it would come up as a question mark but it's only a little issue. Good work on getting this done in 48 hours, especially with such nice art.
Oct 24 19:09:37 24h 14m Cyber Cquabble ♥ 0 This went for retro in a way few other people did. The pre-set jump and the colour palette made me think of games that you'd see in retro retrospectives. Pretty difficult too! I managed to get to wave 4.
Oct 24 19:25:24 15m 47s Old Tech Village ♥ 0 You did a good job of making the models out of primitve, nice blocky art style. The tutorial is well made and explains the gameplay. The robots are cute in a spooky way. I did find myself moving up against structures and getting stuck. Still nice entry with a cozy feel.
Oct 24 19:40:30 15m 06s Scrap Treasure ♥ 0 Nice relaxing music and pixel art, it kind of put me in mind of a Zachtronics game. Putting together this for the compo is really impressive. Some of the components were a bit mysterious in terms of what they were but that just added to the charm.
Oct 24 19:54:37 14m 07s Plug & Play ♥ 1 A neat platformer with thematic different modes, it's been so long since I saw a scart cable! Although I didn't get very far I did play around with all 3 colours. I'm not too good at precision platformers like this but I'd love to see someone experienced at them give it a try.
Oct 24 20:11:43 17m 06s Fix That Damn Thing ♥ 1 That just kept getting progressively more surreal, got the end with the Earth exploding. Nice sound effects. The artstyle is impressive for simply being svg images, cool!
Oct 24 20:20:26 8m 43s Forgotten Tech ♥ 0 That's a very novel concept. I like to feel I did well to guess the solution when I was still in the process of lining up all the piece. Nice art throughout and the music was charming. It would be nice to see more puzzles like this.
Oct 27 19:16:54 70h 56m Granny's Tea & Tats ♥ 0 Cool game mechanic to implement for the compo. I thought the detailed sprite for your hand was nice, such a shame you seem to have the shakes. I respect the person who wanted to have a tattoo of a teapot :)
Oct 27 19:25:40 8m 46s i have a sword ♥ 1 I think this is a lot more than I would have managed in 8 hours, congrats. The wobbly animations on the main character were nice and I did like getting to defect the robot's shots. The body hit health system was neat and it would be cool if that affected your ability to swing your sword.
Oct 27 19:34:59 9m 19s Ancient Technology ♥ 1 The art is really nice with cool effects for light hitting your character and the gears turning. I did go right at first like many other people but got back on track. The ending sequence was cute. Good emergent narrative in a bite sized game.
Oct 27 19:43:58 8m 59s Old Remote Safari ♥ 1 At least unlike in the safari zone tvs can't run away! Nice FMV style hand animations. I got 3 different endings are there more? Lovely concept for a game about interacting with technology like a random encounter.
Oct 27 19:54:16 10m 18s Forgotten Device ♥ 1 The atmosphere is lovely and the art style and fixed cameras remind me of old pre-rendered backgrounds. The environmental storytelling was very nice with the way you find all these phones like you. Also thanks for putting up a video of gameplay, not many creators do that :)
