I tried to play through several times without knowing that you could use your sword to block projectiles, and I thought the joke was that the main character's sword was a bad idea. Then I got to the part where you descend the stairs and there are three robots shooting at you, and I'm not sure if I'm just really bad at the game, or it's brutally difficult 😂
Sadly, I couldn't get past those three robots, no matter how hard I tried. I did really like the art though! The robots were shockingly charming, and the little waddle that the main character does is just plain fun :) For having been finished in only eight hours, this is incredible!

Basic platformer with a fun premise. It was a bit annoying when trying to get up the steps, maybe it'd help if the collider slid across the corner?

I could finish the game 😁
Congratulations! 8 hours is a really short time and the game is actually quite long! Sadly, there is no ending screen 😢
Managed to beat it once i realized that you can hit the projectiles. Basicly turned into a rhytm game of dance with enemies at that point. I guess the final green door is the finish but not functional? Anyways i climbed up and jumped off the ledge at the world end.
I love the crudeness of the game, felt really human. I think your basic level design was pretty nice with how you did the progression even with the really limited mechanics of game.
That was fun. The character is a bit floaty. For some reason, I really liked the Paint artwork, hahaha. I just couldn't get onto the ledges where the top enemies were. Also, give a bit of player feedback when the player destroys the enemy projectiles.
I like that everything was handdrawn. I especially liked the look of the damage indicator. It is appropriately stressful.
The humor of a guy taking a sword to a robot gun fight is great. Very on theme and a great hook for a game.
As to negatives: it feels like maybe the character's hitbox is too wide? If I got too close to an edge, I wouldn't be able to jump anymore, as if I'm stuck inside/against it. Also enemies seemed to hurt me before they were visually touching me. That made it hard to guage how close/far I should be to hit them without getting hurt.
I'm impressed by what you made in such a short amount of time.

@koolruz honestly I wish I had thought of that take on the theme, made me laugh.
@wakobu @prunus-padis Yep, the green rectangle was intended to be the exit "you win" door, and I thought I tested that it worked but must have messed up the setup when getting the final bits in place. Good job getting there!
@givit-game-studios I agree, some feedback when knocking the projectiles out of the air was something I wanted to do but ran out of time for.
@mikemikemakes Yeah, the hitbox was a bit of a compromise, I needed it to be bigger than the biggest step the character took or I felt like I was clipping but that left it sticking out from the character on most of the frames.

@smilewood just played, nice catch of the theme! Just on the comments I read that you can block the projectiles by sword! that changes a looooot! Managed to kill some robots :) I can see a lot of hearth putting on this game, great that you finished it!
Had a similar experience to the above players where I couldn't find a way to win when I got to the part with multiple robots shooting at you, it didn't feel like you swung fast enough to catch all their bullets. Still, I liked the animations and the premise of the game was really great. Well done!

It was fun to get the correct timing to swing the sword. But I couldn't get past the 3 robots that were all shooting at me at the same time. I found climbing walls a bit difficult. A checkpoint would be a nice addition. Really not bad for a game made in 8 hours!

Considering this game was made in just 8 hours, it's not bad at all!
The fact that there's a medkit after several enemies already makes this game better than quite a few others!
I really like the idea of reflecting projectiles, and I think the game could be even more fun if players were rwarded more for pulling it off. For example, successfully reflecting a projectile could send it flying back at the enemy or even trigger a bullet-time effect!
Anyway, great job for the jam!

They say don't bring a knife to a gun fight but this game proofs that saying wrong :) The mechanic is nice. With the short time you did great. There is a lot to improve but you already know that. Awesome work and keep making games.
There's smth particularly hilarious about this character walking and swinging animations :D

The art style is reminding me of good old times of game jams a long time before, when we use the word AI to represent monsters' behavior and the most common technology for videogames was Flash.

Sometimes you just gotta bring a knife to a robot fight. Nice! You did great for the short time you had, but if I can offer one primary complaint/criticizm it's that the robots need a warning before they attack and the player needs an indicator that the sword swing can be used again. As it stands it's extremely difficult to avoid getting hit because my sword just wouldn't swing sometimes or because the enemy was right next to me - if there could be some small effect to reveal these internal states of the game it would do a significant amount of work towards being polished and playable. Nice job!
I think this is a lot more than I would have managed in 8 hours, congrats. The wobbly animations on the main character were nice and I did like getting to defect the robot's shots. The body hit health system was neat and it would be cool if that affected your ability to swing your sword.
