The lava is so unfair lol, I can tell it took a lot of effort recreate this sloppy old way of control, pity the audio failed otherwise it'd be really peak in its own way.

Lol lava is peak. Thanks for this little rage.
I got to Wave 10 a score of 270734.
I have no clue how to rate this. It accurately reproduces everything awful about older arcade platformers, but is clearly doing so intentionally. I want to give you points for that but somehow no category seems to fit (humor?).
That said, I don't think the homage feels complete without music and sound effects.
I do enjoy arcadey stuff! And going out of your way to recreate jankiness :) And thanks for making the collision forgiving! I quite stink at it, though, which to be fair matches my performance at old games.
These controls are awful, gets a 5 in theme easily XD
But seriously, awesome concept, great job emulating the shittiness of the past
Fun little arcade game, really feels like an old 80s cabinet. With some music and sound effects it would be perfect!
On point this one... it truly is old tech... felt like an arcade machine at the burger joint... really good job with the theme.
in wave one, the pink things shoot at me, nothing to shoot, nothing else happens? I picked up a yellow thing at one point. I'm missing something.
I keep feeling like these ld games are insanely complicated. Maybe I'm the perfect idiot test?
Nice take on the theme. I think you nailed the "annoying but still good" feeling. Having no air control is a challenge, but the double jump makes it less frustrating, and after a little bit I got used to it. Great job on the graphics!
I'm old enough to remember games that played just like this. I'd go down to the corner shop and pick up a tape for £2.99 and then have to wait 5 minutes for it to load. Kinda wish it'd had a 5 minute load time at the start for the full effect. Good stuff 🎱
I liked how much you did with minimal graphics. Gameplay is good with the "climb" jump. Lava is a bit unfair but overall, geat job !
This went for retro in a way few other people did. The pre-set jump and the colour palette made me think of games that you'd see in retro retrospectives. Pretty difficult too! I managed to get to wave 4.
this is a really fun and accurate throwback to 80s arcade games. you absolutely nailed that "annoying but still good" feeling, and the retro visuals and punishing controls fit the theme perfectly.
it's a shame you had to cut the audio entirely. some crunchy 8-bit sound effects and a looping chiptune track would have really completed the experience.
still, a very solid entry. great job!
To start, I didn't expect to find another NES speedrunner here but that's awesome :)
Great job with the game. You really captured the sort of unfair arcade platforming feeling where every time I missed I jump I wasn't sure if it was my fault or not. The aesthetic with the text and flashing colors was spot on. I'm sorry to hear you didn't have time for audio because some bleepy sound effects would have really suited this. I struggled a lot of wave 8 but ultimately quit because I need to play other games. Thanks for sharing.

A really good old-school game with a look and feel similar to Game & Watch 👍
Thanks all, you should have seen how annoying the lava was before I added the slightest amount of air control...
Lol you really nailed the "frustrating 1980s arcade game" feel with the level design and especially the controls. I love the sprites, especially the player animation. But it made me want to throw my computer out the window. Good job I think?
