| Jul 31 11:40:45 | Feed the Machine | ♥ 1 | First of congratulations on finishing the game! At first I thought it would be a clicker game and it turned out to be a puzzle game. It is actually more tricky than I thought to balance the maximum efficient and not screwing yourself. I keep dying because I let one of the batteries charge too much, which turns out to be a grave mistake because there is no way you can not lose after you overcharge a battery. (If you transfer to the machine, machine explode, if you wait until it is fully charged, you can't transfer to the machine because once it gets to 0 it dies and if you charge at 1% it will explode) I think that is a bit too harsh on the player. The little bonus is nice but it would be nice if it tells you how much battery it gives the main machine, it was a bit unclear until I tried it out. Sound effect was minimum but better than not having one. Overall, you did a good job! | |
| Jul 31 12:40:23 | 59m 38s | Peak Oil | ♥ 4 | Making a simulation game is challenging, congratulate on finishing one! I love these kind of game. I really liked the graphics, it is nicely drawn and looks clean. However there are some UI layering issue where the panel is behind the button so I couldn't see what was on the panel. See screenshot: Capture.PNG Now back to the gameplay, it is not as polished as the graphics. However, since I made 2 simulation games before, I know how much work there is to make a game like this. So please don't take these criticism too personally. * It seems there is no penalty for creating an oil deficit, so I can just jack up the price and produce very little and that way my company just earns money without any drawback * I can see that the fun part of the game is to balance your oil production to control the price and earning. However, without some sort of overview stats (e.g. how much money i'm earning / losing per tick), I can't really tell the effects of each of my actions (I increase my oil production, price drop a little, does my increment help my income or not? I can't tell without resolving to calculator or pen and paper) * I still don't understand the impact of region demand / produce as well as stability. (Seems like it impact the build and research cost but I can't really tell? Also I was earning so much money so I didn't really care :p) * The late game gets a bit tedious since I had so many oil production I need to click through. Would be nice if it automatically lower the production when an oil well is exhausted. * The game lacks a goal. I enjoyed earning money and seeing my company expanding over the globe. However, without a lose condition and a clear win condition, I got bore after a while. A little bit of a goal would help. For example, if you sets a dollar amount as the gold medal, another amount for a silver medal, etc. Then the player will have a challenge to work towards. Right now the game has nothing to work towards. Hope these feedback helps! I love the theme, the graphics is fantastic. It has a lot of potentials. Well done putting it together within 48 hours. I know it was hard. Good job! You should be proud :) |
| Aug 1 09:01:14 | 20h 20m | D34TH | ♥ 1 | Very solid entry for a first timer! The graphics is minimal but quite cute. Has the Oryx Design Lab vibe to it. The music is also minimal but the basic sound effect made the game more alive. The game play is solid, the control is tight and shooting is fun. However, I couldn't really get used to the Z and X control, and I feel like the game is cheating because if I jump towards a point, the police shot in advance before I get there so I have to take a hit which is annoying. I also seem to run into a bug? where I cannot proceed to the next level at the end of Level 2, I die and try again, still same issue :( Very well done though, the game is challenging to play. |
| Aug 1 10:49:54 | 1h 48m | Breathless Parks - Running, out of Power | ♥ 3 | A solid entry except my keyboard almost died in the process :p The graphics is great, nicely hand drawn style. The music is simple but fits the game very well. The voice acting makes the characters more alive, just a nice little addition. However I think there is something wrong with the control? I can never manage to get my character to go fast and I'm using a mechanical keyboard so my hand is still really tired from the rapid tapping. And despite all my effort my character still walks very slowly :( Also I hope it didn't need the installer. |
| Aug 1 11:01:44 | 11m 50s | Powerless Miner | ♥ 2 | Yes I beat the game!!! Haha it was quite a fun little puzzle game. The clever power mechanics adds another layer of complexity to the otherwise a bit simple puzzle game. The music and sound effect is simple but it makes the game better because i can use the sound effect as feedback as to if i collect something or not. Like the others I was a bit confused at the first 2 level but afterwards it was fine. A little bit of help text or tutorial text would be greatly helpful in the beginning. The level where the bat first appear is much harder than all of the levels I feel like, i spent the most time on that level, maybe you can rearrange the levels so that the hard level is at an later point of the game. Overall it was fun and it made me wanting to finish it. Awesome work! |
| Aug 1 11:29:35 | 27m 51s | Battery Pack | ♥ 1 | Nice puzzle game! The graphics and music is basic but the puzzle is solid. I like trial and error and try to beat the challenges. The initial tutorial was good but it didn't explained consumable charging station and bullet types which caused confusion for me later on when the charging station suddenly disappear and I was wondering why I didn't die when I get hit by the bullet (blue ones). Then i thought bullet doesn't hurt you and then I got hit by a black one..Not until later i find that there are little hints at the top but it wasn't very noticable. The game's difficulty is pretty well controlled however I don't like the randomly fired bullets, especially the one at level6. It felt too random and when you see it fires towards you, you are probably dead because it travels really fast. Also the enemies' hitboxes are bit big. A few times I thought i didn't hit the enemy but I still died. Other than that it was pretty solid. Well done! |
| Aug 1 11:58:16 | 28m 41s | The Road To Power | ♥ 1 | WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!! I clicked 'launch nuke to the west' an nothing happened!!! Or was that intentional? Great satirical game! The dialogues and choices are funny and The plot is engaging. The images comes with the choices are appropriate and nicely drawn. However, I do not know what are the differences between the choices and sometimes I feel like it made no effect (Of course I can see some choices led to major event). Some music would be nice. Nice work! I would play a few more times and see if there are alternative endings :) |
| Aug 1 12:10:05 | 11m 49s | POWERCUT, Inc. | ♥ 3 | The game is a lot of fun. When I saw the screenshot I thought it was a sim-tower like game but turns out it is not. The graphics and music were top-notch, make the game aesthetically pleasing. There are a lot of tiny details that enhanced the experience, e.g. the little people's emotions, etc. The gameplay is intense and challenging, especially when it gets to 6 employees and I felt like a chaos. Love what you have created, one of the best entries I have seen in this Ludum Dare. Well done! If I have to pick something to criticize, it would be the fact that I don't know how much electricity each room is using. So far I found that the stairs tends to eat up a big chunk of the electricity but I ran into scenarios where even though I only have the offices, power still goes down and made me felt like there was nothing I can do and the game was just being unfair. |
| Aug 1 12:43:09 | 33m 04s | Mayor on a Roll | ♥ 3 | The maximum score I managed to get was 44 with 74 seconds. The game was pretty fun, the jokes are funny and the dialogues were humorous. Music was cheerful and matched the graphics style very well. The gameplay was simple but effective, being a bad guy is fun :P The control is pretty tight except occasional hiccup with key registrations when stealing apple (a lot of times when I run pass someone and timed the 'space' key and the game didn't register it and I didn't get the apple which was a bit frustrating). I rarely used the sprint and drop apple. Not using sprint because I find keep stealing apple already make me run pretty fast and dropping apple seems to only get rid of a few amount of enemy so it wasn't very effective it feels like. I keep dying in corners because even though more power gives me faster speed, the turning speed is the same and turning around is when i get caught and surrounded :( Overall it was a delightful, fun game to kill time with. Nicely done! |
| Aug 1 12:56:49 | 13m 40s | Stoked | ♥ 1 | The graphics is very cute, love the flame spirit. The core loop of the game is simple but well executed. It sounded like a lot of things to manage but once I got a hang of it, it wasn't too bad. Sound effect was simple but it was a nice addition. The tips overlay was neat and well explained. However, I found that the game does not increase in difficulty over time and the challenge wasn't enough to keep me busy. I got the situation well under control after a while that I don't see I would ever lose. Great concept though just need to tune up the difficulty and it would be a great game! |
| Aug 1 13:50:28 | 53m 39s | Step out of the light | ♥ 3 | Great puzzle game. Graphics - amazing, the 3d environments looks nice, character animation was great. I've also notice the floor texture was very high quality as well, same with the lighting effect. Sound, Ambient music - background music was there, doesn't feel intruding, great. The lines and jokes said by the robot was funny, make the repetitive trial and error a lot more fun. Gameplay - Love the fact that even though there was no tutorial, the game make use of visual indications and common patterns to teach the player how to play the game. It was fantasic. However, I still don't get the pushing box mechanics. There was one level with 2 doors and you have to push the boxes into the lava to make way to those doors. Even though I finished that level, I still didn't quite understand why sometimes I can push the boxes and sometimes I can't. It seems to have something to do with the triggers but I couldn't really tell. For example, when there were 3 boxes in a row, I couldn't push the middle one first, I have to push the one on the trigger first. I still don't get that. I got stuck at the level where there are 2 lasers and I have to cross. It seems like there aren't enough boxes but since you've designed the level, I assume that there must be a solution but I couldn't figure it out. Maybe I will come back tomorrow and see if I can beat it. Love the game overall, I spent half an hour trying to figure out the puzzles and it was rewarding to get this far. Very well done! |
| Aug 1 14:20:49 | 30m 21s | RulesQuest | ♥ 1 | Yay I have beat the game! Graphics - the characters were simple but looks quite nice. I couldn't tell what are the monsters though. The fact that the color changes when you walk into an enemy territory is kind of cool. Sound, Music - pretty good sound effects, I noticed different power up have different sound effects which was neat. Music was quite epic and worked well with the theme. Gameplay: the core gameplay is sound I think, it is a nice twist to traditional rpgs. I had fun leveling up my characters. However, there are quite a few issues with the gameplay (not major issues because I find the core game loop is quite fun): - I think the map is a bit too big. In the end I had trouble finding the last king. With a huge map, the fun is less concentrated and less resource contention beteween the kings. - There are wayyyyy to many pick ups. The idea of picking up power is cool. However there are way too many of them and as a player I was quite confused why there were so many pickups. At the end I found out I actually didn't need many of them. I can easily farm enemies and get levels without picking up a lot of the powers. Picking up and putting back to the castle is very tedious with that many pickups as well. I suggest you significantly cut down the number of pick ups but make them more powerful (tune down the movement speed as well so you can't quickly pick up all of them). With less pickup and a smaller map, all the kings will have to fight for the pick ups which would make things interesting - Enemies spawn way too frequently and there are way too many of them. I kind of got confused about why there are enemies and they spawn instantly. They provide a lot of exp and leveling up give you stats as well. So i found it more optimal to just sit at enemies spawns and farm them instead of going through the processing of picking up power ups. With that said, the core game is definitely enjoyable. I spent 15 minutes playing the game and beating it tells you that it is fun :) However I think you need to drastically scale back down all of the elements and try to create a more resource sacred world where player and AI actually have to fight for survival which will make the game better. Thanks for the game though I enjoyed it! |
| Aug 2 10:44:04 | 20h 23m | Fade | ♥ 1 | Super atmospheric game. The snow effect, the are less and less trees as the level progress, the wind sound effect and the guitar music at the background all worked together nicely. I'm very impress at the mood you have created. The gameplay is a bit simple but works well in the context. The reloading mechanics is a bit confusing at first. Took me a while to understand how to use the reloading mechanics properly. One thing though, even though the main character keep saying that he/she is losing power, the game play didn't really reflect that (or did I miss it completely) The story is interesting but I felt a bit left unexplained. Like why this person is trying to save this baby girl, why he send her to the witch, why the witch just leave him/her to die? A bit more story would feels better in my opinion. Overall, nice game! Good job. |
| Aug 2 10:58:40 | 14m 36s | Light-Eater | ♥ 1 | Very innovative game. Love the idea and the execution. The experience of this game is very zen until I found out that there was a time limit before the camera moves on 😛 The scribbling mechanics is quite well done, I haven't notice any bug. Would love a score of some sort at the end because I definitely miss quite a few lights especially towards the end. Some soft, relaxing background music will bring this game to the next level. I enjoyed playing this game, very relaxing. Love the scribbled graphics. Very well done! |
| Aug 2 11:06:42 | 8m 02s | Battery | ♥ 0 | Hahaha this is funny. I think the meta 'game' would be finding out ways to make the battery drain faster (I wonder if the server keep track of distinct IP addresses :p or can I have a script to keep hitting the drainBattery endpoint on the server). |
| Aug 2 11:18:34 | 11m 52s | Decaying Card Game | ♥ 1 | Very nice puzzle game. The idea is quite innovative and it was actually challenging and fun to play. I didn't realize until reading the comment that the game is meant to be lost. I thought I could somehow defeat all the waves :p The drag and drop mechanics works nicely, it glitched out once thought where I used a card at a corner and nothing happened. Like the others have said a bit of sound effect and music would be great. A solid idea, love to see it get more developed (with more card variety, etc.) |
| Aug 2 11:34:54 | 16m 20s | Journey in the Dark | ♥ 2 | One of the best game I've played in this ludum dare. The atmosphere was great with the hollow wind sound effect, the footstep and the flashlight toggling sound. The core mechanics has a lot of potential and it was well executed. I didn't realized until later that the level was actually partially random generated which adds a lot of replayable but it does add some randomless into the game. For example, I got my high score because i had a relatively easy start for that run but then other runs were much harder. Also sometimes it is quite hard to tell which area is safe and which is not. I got kill at randomly tiny spikes that I did not notice and it ruined my good run which was a bit annoying. However, it was a very innovative used of light and the game is very well polished and played nicely. Well done! |
| Aug 2 11:53:25 | 18m 31s | QRTTNBPBYTROAYALID! | ♥ 0 | The graphics, lighting effect and animation quality was high. Music is cheerful and very fitting to the game. The gameplay is simple but challenging, I find it a bit too punishing that if you ever miss a battery, you die. I think at least at the beginning of a run, the battery should appear more frequently and as the game goes on, it appears less frequent. Also how come water doesn't kill you and you can walk on top of it, yet there are parts where you can fall down to underground and die? :p Overall pretty high quality game, I had fun. I got 831 at the end. |
| Aug 2 12:17:39 | 24m 14s | AI Overlord Runaway | ♥ 2 | Nice take on the bullet hell genre. You managed to preserve the challenges of bullet hell despite giving the player all these amazing powers because now the player has extra aspect to manage. The music was amazing, would be nice to have sound effects in addition. Graphics is great as well, very vibrant and colorful and well drawn. I found myself being confused for not knowing how to activate the power. I know I can hit P to pause the game but i thought it would just show me the same thing the game initially showed me (which did not contain control scheme). I also found that switching between power in the heat of dodging bullet is quite hard and I tend to just stick with one power instead. Maybe allow player to pause the game which switching power would add more strategic element to it? but it might ruin the intensity of the bullet hell. Overall, very nice game. Well done! |
| Aug 2 12:47:17 | 29m 38s | Deep Space Nine Volts | ♥ 2 | Oh my god this game is really stressful, in a good way I guess. I managed to win and I was quite happy. I needed a few trial and error get remember where everything is as well as figuring out how to use the charging station (I didn't know where is the charging station at first, would be nice to have big red arrow pointing to them in the beginning.) The music and sound effect works great with the game and the art style is simple but does the job. The challenge itself was great, it was a bit difficult but that was also what kept me on the edge my seat! Did you mention that this is your first ludum dare? WOW you've done an amazing job. I would have thought this is your 4th or 5th if you didn't mention it. Very fun game I like it, one of the best I've played so far. Thanks you for the game! :) |
| Aug 2 13:14:14 | 26m 57s | Tibet Quest | ♥ 1 | The art looks amazing, love the paper-y aesthetic. The narrator sound effect was nice, gave out the evil vibe. Especially the evil laugh when the character dies. Losing power was well represented as visual cue which was cool. However I find the actual gameplay a bit lacking compare to the amazing art this game has. The attack and defend mechanics is a bit basic, there is no point in defending because the enemy just keep attack if you keep defending. The enemy also just keep spawning so I couldn't really progress. I managed to progress and sealed one of the spawn by forcing my character to walk pass the spawn but yea not very great. I tried to interact with the life well and nothing happened even though the text prompted me to press E but when I did press E, my character's life wasn't regenerating. So my character died there :( Overall, solid art and sound. I suspect you probably ran out of time to polish the gameplay which is a shame. Love to see an improved version though! |
| Aug 2 13:22:08 | 7m 54s | Temple of Illumination | ♥ 4 | The background music was one of the most memorable song I've heard in games I've played in this LD. Very nice song, would love to have the soundtrack if possible :P The lighting effect was nicely done and the animation quality was high. Gameplay: The control was tight and feels responsive for a hard platformer like this. However I found that I was confused by the shape of the collectable at first. I thought it was an arrow pointing down in the first level. I was very confused why the game tells me to jump onto a spike and I did and I died :p After a few trials I then realized it was a collectable. The hitbox of the spike also seems a bit too big for my taste. I'm very bad at plateformers so maybe that is why, so for me this was a very difficult game due to the large hitboxes. However, I can see that it is a well polished and very high quality game. Well done!! PS: don't forget the soundtrack :p |
| Aug 2 13:27:16 | 5m 08s | Cyclades Travelling Sailor | ♥ 2 | I love the low-polygon art style of the game, looks pretty clean and that was what attracted me to play this game. The game is easy to understand and play. However, the puzzle is a little bit basic and simple. You did have a nice difficulty curve though. Some background music and sound effect will definitely enhance the experience a little bit more. |
| Aug 3 10:45:37 | 21h 18m | More Energy! | ♥ 1 | The dialogues were funny I like them. The graphics is basic but serve the game well. The core loop of buying lands, building power plants, expanding your company and treasury is solid. However, I think the game suffers a bit when it comes to difficulty. The game overall is a bit simple, there were really challenges, as long as you build the plants and wait, you will eventually be able to expand. The events are usually have good outcome without cost as well. Would be nice to have a time constraint and make some of the choices has both cost and benefit. (e.g. lose money but boost power output). The initial ramp up of the game was a bit slow, couldn't really do much for the first few turns other than passing. Would be nice to have cheaper plants / locations so I can do more in the early game. Overall a game with a lot of potential. I enjoyed while playing and I loved the humor in it as well. Well done! |
| Aug 3 11:25:34 | 39m 57s | Cavernous | ♥ 1 | The graphics looks pretty nice and some of the locations in the dungeon is very well design. The sound effect was simple but quite atmospheric. However, I felt that the gameplay could use some improvement. For example, I constantly run into bugs where I can climb an invisble rope up / down to nowhere and cannot drop down from the ropes. Or I cannot proceed at some of the places, etc. Great potential, the execution lacks a little. However, I did enjoy the art though. |
| Aug 4 10:57:53 | 23h 32m | Running Power | ♥ 0 | The foundation of the game seems really solid. I'm impressed by the implementation of grid map, scrolling, zooming, etc. However, I think the game lacks balancing at this stage. I lost very quickly even though I tried to build out slowly. One of the first game I played I started with the game over countdown 😅 Overall, pretty good foundation to build upon but the game feels not very finished and tuned at this stage. |
| Aug 4 14:13:59 | 3h 16m | The Political Juggle | ♥ 1 | Hahaha this game is very funny. The political satire, the voice sound effect, the activities going on in those countries are all quite humorous. Love the graphics, simple yet add to the satirical nature of the game. I was surprise not only the game but the music also speed up which was a nice touch. I actually quite like this game despite its simplicity. Well done! |
| Aug 4 14:22:10 | 8m 11s | The King's Saviour | ♥ 1 | Love the 2.5D graphics, reminded me of some of the older games I've played. The animation quality is quite good as well. Combine with the movement speed I do feel like I was riding a horse. Music was relaxing and fits the riding quite well. However, I found the game quite challenging especially with the bow trajectory and the small hit box of the bats. I've also ran into issues on the second level where if I dash, I can dash through a floor and die :( Overall very enjoyable experience though. |
| Aug 4 14:29:18 | 7m 08s | Trump Clicker | ♥ 1 | Another political satire game haha, it seems to be a theme in this game jam. Love the background music it was quite very good. The pixel art and animation on trump was great. Very nicely done clicker game, doesn't feel too long or too short. Would be nice buying those things will change the graphics. Overall quite enjoyable. Well done! |
| Aug 4 14:43:09 | 13m 51s | The Stonemont Chronicles | ♥ 1 | Love the Reigns-like gameplay, I think you have done a good job to differentiate your game with the original. The graphics are nicely drawn and the events are interesting. I think the game is quite well balanced and enjoyable to play. However, the lack of music and sound made the game a bit static and ultimately the events started repeating and it becomes a bit repetitive which is inevitable due to the game jam time limit. However, love your work! |
