| May 2 00:16:41 | Stable Orbit | ♥ 0 | Really well presented game that doesn't pull any punches with the difficulty! Loved the atmospheric background music, which is especially rare in LD entries, and the SFX were good too. Might have been nice to have some kind of subtle hint about when you were getting too far away from the planet's gravity. | |
| May 2 00:51:01 | 34m 20s | iwantout | ♥ 2 | I was tempted to give up several times, but I got there in the end. On reflection, I like this, it's a puzzle and working it out is it's own reward. |
| May 2 01:10:54 | 19m 53s | Naarrow | ♥ 2 | Clever level design and powerups, really impressive game for a 48 hour competition. Not to mention using C++ and Vim to create it (and emscripten to put it on the web), that's hard core! I felt like the levels were a little unforgiving, I could have used a bit more headroom to jump around in a few places, and my platforming skills aren't great so maybe just falling and being able to easily retry instead of having so many spikes might have been nice. The character moves really quickly too, which makes me more liable to make accidents. I like that the game seems to explore what happens when you have a non-square character (I assume that's why it's called 'narrow'?). I also assume that, at some point, you get a power up that lets you get shorter, but I didn't get to that bit. I'll come back and take a look at the post-compo version. |
| May 2 01:48:21 | 37m 27s | A Giant Hitch | ♥ 1 | I like how the game is presented in an episodic way, which I think is the modern approach to testing a concept. It feels well polished and I liked the story elements as well as the humor, both of which matched the theme very well. My only complaint is that the bits where you were moving between locales felt a bit tedious after a while, but maybe that just highlights the plight of the giant! |
| May 2 04:10:00 | 2h 21m | Ionnect | ♥ 1 | Nice niche game and nice work on doing something different. My chemistry is quite rusty, but I worked out what I needed to do in the end (especially once I realized there were instructions further down the page :) |
| May 2 06:35:52 | 2h 25m | NO STEP ON HYOOMINS | ♥ 1 | Clever take on the theme. Bite-sized and fun. |
| May 2 07:16:32 | 40m 40s | Near kingdoms | ♥ 1 | I really liked this! Who would have thought that there was so much strategy to such a simple concept? |
| May 2 22:48:27 | 15h 31m | Death's Knocking | ♥ 1 | Took me a little while to work out what the audio cues were, but it's quite moody from the get-go. Breaking down the doors seems to take a long time, I never managed to get through one before death found me |
| May 2 23:01:19 | 12m 52s | Chill Bill | ♥ 1 | I'm not generally a fan of ultra-violent games, but I'm also not a fan of crowded shopping centers, so I guess it cancels out in this case. Very polished game, the cut scenes in particular were a real standout for me, but it's hard to fault any part of the implementation here. |
| May 4 02:28:49 | 27h 27m | Path of the Rabbit | ♥ 1 | Another stellar entry. My only complaint is that it gets a little hard to line up the paths once the tiles are stacked really high. Marvelous concept and awesome implementation |
| May 4 05:26:19 | 2h 57m | RSV Resourcer | ♥ 0 | The RAM bug prevented this from being playable for me for a long time, since I just run out of RAM then can't place anything after that point. I loved the AI interactions, very, very funny. I'm not sure if there is a viable strategy or not, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Nice work! |
| May 5 00:44:58 | 19h 18m | Smalltrek | ♥ 1 | Really professional, full of content, challenging, entry. Amazing for just 48 hours work! |
| May 5 00:47:55 | 2m 57s | Planet Defense | ♥ 1 | Straight forward and easy to get into. I liked the graphics, but some meaty sound effects would have gone a long way to making this feel more finished. |
| May 5 01:13:43 | 25m 48s | Pip Sweep | ♥ 0 | Almost perfect, just needed more stroking puzzles :D |
| May 5 05:03:36 | 3h 49m | Ninja-Vu | ♥ 1 | The background music stood out to me here, very rare in a Compo entry. I would have liked to have been able to kill or knock out the guards when I got up behind them, but I'm not very good at stealth games so perhaps that's not good advice :D |
| May 5 05:12:46 | 9m 10s | Headspace | ♥ 1 | I really enjoyed this, full marks for mood. I was disappointed it wasn't longer, which isn't something I say about many LD games |
| May 5 08:23:28 | 3h 10m | Bamboo Life | ♥ 1 | Very compelling entry, if there we a few more mechanics I could play it all day |
| May 5 09:10:37 | 47m 09s | Flicker of Hope | ♥ 3 | Extremely atmospheric. I couldn't work out what the spell did though, or now to activate it. Pushing up just made my character jump. I'll come back in a couple of days and take another look |
| May 5 22:53:53 | 13h 43m | Superbugs | ♥ 2 | Nice game with a good concept and a good level of polish. Very easy to pick up and gets challenging later on. Great work! |
| May 5 23:00:14 | 6m 21s | Tinyverse | ♥ 1 | I liked the orbital physics and the warping was a nice twist |
| May 5 23:05:48 | 5m 34s | Chuck and Bull | ♥ 2 | The best farming simulation you will ever find |
| May 6 23:26:38 | 24h 20m | Glade in the Sky | ♥ 0 | Good combination of puzzles and I like that people here are sharing ways to "cheat" the puzzles. The main character could have used a shadow to make it easier to judge when you are above something, and jumping puzzles in 3D games are a pet peeve of mine in general because it's very hard to judge distances without lots of additional cues (lots of games do it though). |
| May 6 23:39:52 | 13m 14s | Color Go | ♥ 1 | I like that you did something different here. There doesn't seem to be much challenge to it, but I think if you tweaked a few things you could have a very novel game here. I would introduce more resource scarcity, perhaps you need to surround existing generators (ala Go) on the game board to get new resources, and perhaps those generators get depleted over time so you have to keep expanding. I liked the tech tree too, but, again, I think those things should be on the board and perhaps only give a one-time bonus. Yeah, you should definitely play around with the mechanics because there's something to it |
| May 6 23:47:40 | 7m 48s | Vegicide | ♥ 1 | I love a good boss battle. I also liked that jump and attack were the same function, that's clever and novel. Good SFX and atmospheric background music. |
| May 7 00:16:23 | 28m 43s | Gnome Digger | ♥ 2 | Good - Digging - Shop! - Background music Could be improved - I think rocks needing multiple hits to remove them detracts from the game Notes - You can easily get stuck if you don't buy any ladders, I don't think this is necessarily bad, as the game is essentially a mine-building simulation and if you build a mine that you get stuck at the bottom of, well that's your fault. - If the game is a mining simulation, then adding more mechanics around that (rocks that fall and crush you if you dig under them, pockets of water, mine carts - automation, etc...) might be a good way to move forward - I'd consider either making it turn based without enemies, or adding enemies and making it a more action oriented title, and maybe getting rid of jumping entirely - have to buy ladders! |
| May 7 00:35:27 | 19m 04s | Daylight | ♥ 3 | I'm not going to lie, I mostly just found this frustrating. The level design is really unforgiving. Maybe consider making the platforms larger and not stacking them directly above one another. Jumping using energy also didn't really add to my enjoyment of the game either. And, since I'm venting, maybe use a technology that runs in a web browser instead of forcing reviewers to download the game. The background music was nice and I liked the aesthetics of the game though. I also like that the goal is to go up rather than side-to-side, I know that this is becoming more common (presumably because smart phones are portrait, so vertical scrolling fits into that form factor), but I still think there is scope to make something novel and unique that uses that constraint in an interesting way. I think if you rounded out some of the other issues, you'd have a really solid entry. |
| May 7 01:01:07 | 25m 40s | Squeaky Maze | ♥ 0 | Hey team, I wasn't able to review because of the following error. I have an old laptop, so the graphics card probably isn't compatible. I didn't leave a rating. As an aside, speaking as someone who once did a Java entry, it's probably not a good choice of technology for Ludum Dare. A lot of people don't like installing the Java runtime, and gamedevs in general seem to have a pathological hatred for Java on top of that. Maybe consider Unity if you want to make 3D games like this one, or (my preference) JavaScript (or TypeScript, or Dart - which is very Java-y), which will look good on your resume too. | May 7 04:37:12 | 3h 36m | Headroom | ♥ 1 | Moar! Moar! Beautiful game and the ending is perfect. I feel like there's so many more things that could have been done with this |
| May 7 04:44:23 | 7m 11s | Hi Pluto! | ♥ 1 | I found it a bit challenging until I started pausing whenever I got in trouble :D. |
| May 7 04:53:57 | 9m 34s | Earth Invaders | ♥ 0 | As someone who once put a Java entry into Ludum Dare, my advice is use something else next time (maybe JavaScript so it runs in the browser?). People are very hard on you in the scoring when they have to download a Jar and install the JRE. Doesn't worry me though, I'm a Java developer. Anyway, nice game, keep up the good work |
| May 7 05:06:40 | 12m 43s | LD38 - A small world | ♥ 1 | I have to admit, I skipped the instructions the first time I played and it was a very confusing experience. I managed to work out how to use the power ups, but it was tough to keep track of what they all did. Very pretty and zen experience |
| May 7 05:14:50 | 8m 10s | Sim Sperm | ♥ 0 | We've all been there I found it difficult to win since I had no idea where to go, so I was just following other sperm and you all go at the same speed. An old trick they use in racing games is to make the cars at the back go faster than the car at the front, until it's no longer at the front anyway. |
| May 8 23:22:49 | 42h 07m | Forget | ♥ 0 | Nice game, although I found it very challenging to control due to the sensitivity of the mouse/keyboard controls. Aside from that, there doesn't seem to be much challenge in finding the person you are looking for currently, but I think the concept has potential. Perhaps a procedurally generated murder-mystery game where you need to find clues, witnesses, etc... Or just make it a two player game where you're both racing to find the same person. |
| May 9 06:09:32 | 6h 46m | Mini Shaders | ♥ 0 | I have to admit, when I first saw it, I was like "oh no! I have to think!" But once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed learning how the machine worked and what all the commands did. |
| May 14 00:27:04 | 114h 17m | Myrddin | ♥ 0 | I got this Untitled.png |
| May 14 00:30:57 | 3m 53s | Run Cola Run | ♥ 0 | I think my computer is too slow unfortunately, it was really laggy and I could only go left and right. Looked like a cool game though |
| May 18 23:15:24 | 118h 44m | DUCKTRON | ♥ 1 | I really liked the audio and the inanity of this game. And the quacking. In spite of initial appearances, there is a strategy to it. |
