LD55 — Summoning

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-17T17:12:30Z

This is the best game I've seen yet in LD 55! I hope it wins it all.

Everything - the main mechanic, the aesthetic, the art, music - it's all awesome. The main mechanic specifically is very well thought out, how you aren't allowed to spam it to fly anywhere, but you can control how far you can teleport.

Let me just point that the fact that the clap is timed to the music - that is care for detail, folks! If I am forced to nit pick, then the death animation creates jiggly pixels. Aside from that, it's perfect.!

Farmageddon by ThiefViolinist 2024-04-18T19:04:13Z

Since you can't do more than one thing at a time, there's a lot of waiting around, but the game fits the theme well and does so in a fairly unique way.

Heartless Forever by frankiesmileshow 2024-04-16T19:16:10Z

So many monsters, so many power-ups - in so many places!

Fun core gameplay, great art and music, just a shame the background is so sparse in contrast. Feels like you tried to accomplish too much and simply ran out of time.

Great submission overall, tho!

Summonundrum by James Greenleaf 2024-04-17T15:34:08Z

It weirdly reminds me of old Neo-Geo arcade games: flashy graphics, fast-paced music, addictive gameplay, the high score - and you lose quickly too!

I just want to play again and again - here's another quarter!

On a side-note, as an artist, I'm thankful that you opted out from the Graphics and Audio rating categories. That actually means a lot <3

Soul Food by UnitedFailures 2024-04-16T17:47:59Z

Lovely game!! Awesome and cute artstyle, mood, and fitting music and theme. Great idea too - to summon demons only to immediately cook them!

I get that it's all black and white, but some color could have perhaps helped distinguish the three ingredient demons. Also, having the the summoning reminders so far from recipes made me look back and forth all the time, like a tennis match.

Super solid entry overall!

Summoner's Dungeon by MaxDrago 2024-04-17T14:03:23Z

A heads up - to get more ratings and feedback, you should rate and give feedback to other people's games, Your game will show up on other people's home pages if you do so, that's how the Ludum Dare algorithm is set up.

Tao by leorean 2024-04-17T06:19:12Z

Fantastic submission! Very polished and satisfying to play, congrats!! Special props to the pixel artist.

Diner Dash by OgelGames 2024-04-17T16:25:47Z

Straightforward game, but fun!

Extremely chunky pixel art, I was underestimating how chunky it could be lol. Nice minimalist aesthetic, you managed to distill people to an 8x8 tile

Time for Pie! by isayneigh 2024-04-17T14:37:21Z

Sadly couldn't play it without a controller :(

Hell's Kitchen by Zanar 2024-04-16T18:03:43Z

Very nice submission! Soul Food (another lD55 game) ended up with a very similar core game mechanic. This one has much more to it, tho. A bit too complex for me, but I like the extra variety in the recipes and art.

Good stuff!

Oil Creatures by krakadushka 2024-04-17T15:54:20Z

The designs of the oil creatures remind me of Tarboy, the old Youtube/Newgrounds cartoon.

Great art and overall feel of the game. Very polished. Props to whoever decided on the artstyle, it looks very clean ith the flat coloring.

Crystal Defense by nerdbaron 2024-04-17T13:27:19Z

Couldn't figure out what to do at the start, but managed to get a hang of it by just clicking around.

You should definitely tell people the controls at least on your game page, or people will have big problems playing the game.

Aside from that, to get more ratings and feedback, you should rate and give feedback to other people's games, Your game will show up on other people's home pages if you do so, that's how the Ludum Dare algorithm is set up.

Piggy Harvest by sami822 2024-04-16T19:29:53Z

took a bit to understand what was going on, but once I got it, it became fun!

Without a tutorial, you could add more details on how to play the game in the description.

Summoning for Dummies by erebrus 2024-04-16T19:48:44Z

Absolutely fantastic submission!! The animations are awesome, and the addition of the tutorial helps a lot! It's very polished, fun, cute, and full of character.

School is Hell by Gizmo199 2024-04-16T18:29:15Z

Fixed the issue with the itch.io page, now everyone should be able to access the game!

School is Hell by Gizmo199 2024-04-19T14:19:18Z

@deltamain Wow, nice!! I'm sure Demondeed will stay open a long time with you reporting all the misbehaving imps! :smiling_imp:

Yeah, the cursor is there in the web version, you just need to scroll up a lot and the sensitivity defaults to very high. It's our first time entering a Ludum Dare, so we got stuck on some of the peculiarities of embedding on the LD site.

First Time Summoning by TheGamer 2024-04-18T17:44:12Z

Logs were the hardest to come by for me, had to despawn a lot of the rocks and honeycombs to get enough of them. And yes - I was really hoping for a summoning winscreen or something like that.

Wizbbit by Angelino 2024-04-18T20:20:08Z

Cute artstyle and music, and fun UI (took me a little bit to realize they were meant to be the Q W E R keys, tho) Also, when you reach 0 health, the game just keeps going.

Fun submission!

SUMOning - Power through Angel by Mia_143 2024-04-16T18:13:07Z

A unique take on the theme, very creative! Strange little game, I'll remember it for sure.

-Phonebook of Dragon-ヤクザ電話帳 by AegisFate 2024-04-18T16:50:22Z

Fantastic aesthetic and mood! Fits the theme perfectly as well. It gets a little repetitive by the end, would have been nice to add a curve ball in there somewhere, maybe once you enter a particularly seedy part of town you get bad reception, or maybe you can choose which way to go and fight one of two possible opponents - something to break the loop up a bit.

But, of course, there's only so much time available. This is still a great submission!!

Djimm's Revenge by player04 2024-04-17T13:20:29Z

Just a heads up, for you to get more ratings and feedback on your game, you need to rate and give feedback yourself. That's how the algorithm is set up.

That said, nice simple gameplay, and I like how it's a djinn and not a demon, unlike the majority of submissions.

Siela by Gnum_ 2024-04-17T14:19:02Z

Great atmosphere, theme and art, but yeah - as others have said - it's pretty empty. Could have added an obstacle to your task, maybe instead of the sprint and jump mechanics.

Creature Conjurers by Tao Yuanyue 2024-04-16T18:42:53Z

Great presentation, music, art, and mood!

And the three-eyed cat is so cute!!

Death kingdom by Loki Drams 2024-04-18T17:23:24Z

I think you just went too big with your idea and wasn't able to finish it properly. Adding even a little in-game context of what's supposed to happen would help a lot, and some basic sound effects could have made the collecting and building mechanics more enjoyable.

I like the low-poli buildings, tho. Good effort

Arcane Sorcerer by Ruby Mayrio 2024-04-17T20:15:33Z

Cool core mechanic, it's fun even in such a small game. The idea of trying to stand still while in a bullet hell is flavorful and creative as well!

SAKURA by ZekySky 2024-04-17T15:16:30Z

I think the strategy is just to upgrade just one ninja a lot, and put three of that one in your hand? That way you get triple value from each upgrade.

Very simple game, but I really like the addition of two difficulty modes and that volume slider - something I haven't seen yet in a LD jam game!

Summoning Sidescroller by aBlueRag 2024-04-17T16:43:51Z

Played the game and the basic idea is cool! Congrats on your first project.

A few things to start with - you should put the controls in the game description (ideally, they should be in-game ofc), or nobody will know how to play or what they can do. And a cover image and screenshots do a lot to make others want to try your game out. I stumbled onto this game completely by accident.

Ah, and the way the Ludum Dare algorithm works - the more you rate and give feedback to other games, the higher chance you'll get feedback yourself.

summon that star manz by Liole 2024-04-18T19:35:56Z

I'm speechless.

Have I been trolled? either way, I'll remember this submission, lol

Ballad of Lead Shroud by KrummSakura 2024-04-18T19:25:39Z

Great mood and setting that got me interested into the story. Nice way of pacing (no pun intended) the backstory, and I really like the chromatic aberration effect as well, cool touch!

Matthew, Emissary of Balance by unchain 2024-04-16T19:07:15Z

Very nice little game! The resources seemed to cap at 260, though, so I couldn't summon a dragon.

Very satisfying core game loop!

DURO by Fenix131113 2024-04-17T14:51:19Z

Gotta be honest, I didn't realize I could just walk out of the first room. Maybe I'm just dumb, tho. Took me way too long to understand what I was doing, but when I did, it was a fun game!!

Very atmospheric and innovative, and nice puzzles! Maybe you could have started with just one or two wizards available, and unlocked more as you go.

Summoning Bumper by MatthiasBroske 2024-04-16T18:23:17Z

As others have said - tricky physics, or maybe the puzzles are just too hard to start with.

The summoned birdie reminds me of Beat from Megaman, was it the inspiration for Bumper?

Awesome music as well!

Blood Rite by LetsSnack 2024-04-17T06:32:34Z

Very atmospheric!

Fun little submission, wish there was more to it, like some bigger boss enemies, but still very solid.

Interesting choice to go monochromatic, I think it works here.

Mole Game by Slushiesrules 2024-04-18T19:15:04Z

Simple game, but it incorporates the theme well. The lack of audio is unfortunate.

By the way, in case you don't know, Ludum Dare's algorithm is such that the more you rate and give feedback to other games, the more your game will be recommended to other people and the higher chance you'll get feedback. Just a heads up.

Qwsssee by Sillycat 2024-04-18T19:30:52Z

No game? :(
