Super cute game - love the silly dance poses and the various creatures. The concept is solid and really fits the theme, and I really like the glowing outline art style. I ran into some bugs, like getting stuck in the invocation ritual or not being able to get a new assignment after helping one customer, but they tended to go away if I was patient. The squeaky toy sample in the music was ridiculous, I enjoyed it a lot :)
And in case you didn't know, rating other people's games makes the Ludum Dare algorithm bump your game up and show it to other people! If you don't rate anyone, you won't get rated much at all. Good luck to you guys!
@judjudson thank you for your comment and rating! We know about the algorithm :) We just needed to sleep before begin rating other games! We just published a quick update on the Itch version of the game, you should be able to achieve the ritual now. Thank you again for playing! :D
Wonderful, I'll go play it again!
Love the simple art style, excellent use of coloured outlines really made it everything pop and colour coding your ingredients was a great touch to help players remember which ones they needed. I found the invocation bugged a few times for me and just wouldn't let me do the moves, had to restart a few times till it worked but definitely a fun little game, and really nailed that theme, well done!
I really really enjoyed the art direction in the game, it's a very strong theme and works well with the summoning idea. The music was nice and quirky and fit well with the tongue in cheek game ideas. Unfortunately I ran into quite a few bugs with the invocations that made it hard to get through the level, I constantly ended up stuck because of this. Overall loved the concept and could see a great game here once some of the bugs are squashed :)
I don't know why, but the game doesn't show in the full screen, there is menu bar in the bottom. I tried to play from archive and after unzip - the same. ViqbjlUGZa0.jpg Also when I click Q to begin ritual, the apprentice freezes for a few seconds and nothing happens :/ But art looks cool!
I like the concept and the music and executing orders feels good when it works, but the short timers on the customers are really overwhelming and the game frequently softlocked when a customer's timer ran out while trying to perform an incantation.
I like the color-coded and doodle artstyle. The game is quite humorous, with dance move and summonable monsters and such. There are bugs like the JudJudson mentioned, but seem like you have failback because after a while it fix itself, which is great. Gameplay-wise I think it a bit not enough time for each order for a beginner (I supposed playing a lot more, such as developers, will make it easy tho). Gg.
Very nice submission! Soul Food (another lD55 game) ended up with a very similar core game mechanic. This one has much more to it, tho. A bit too complex for me, but I like the extra variety in the recipes and art.
Good stuff!
Thank you for the comments! We're aware of the bugs during the summoning, we'll try to get rid of them in the next few days! :D
GOOOOOODS!!!
Nice game!
I love the art style and the reference to my favorite cartoon about Kuzco the emperor was awesome! As for the gameplay, I find it confusingly hard. Customers are waiting a very little amount of time and to perform the ritual u need to remember the dance-combo...mb I have very weak brains, but I didn't manage to earn a coin within 3 replays.. I wished to have a tip for the moves appears when I placed the ingredients to the circle, so I don't need to open the book all the time.
This was a super cool idea! Graphics, theme, and audio were all fantastic and I think the gameplay would be really fun too. Unfortunately I found it pretty rough to figure out the correct demon and then summon them in time. When I finally did the game seemed to break (every customer just gave me a cha-ching sound when I talked to them). Outside of that, though, I could totally see this getting made into a full game!
The idea is awesome. Its generally well executed... but you kind of shoot yourself in the foot by adding two timers in the game. I unable to learn tropes, since by the time I try to dance - customer is done waiting. First few times I though that its a bug and I just unable to dance. But they just gone... It would be much better (at least for the starting levels) to make us learn slowly. If it takes 4 minutes to make that first summon - so be it. Important thing that player would be able to go through whole thing start to finish in their own pace. Learn the dance mechanic. Learn item positions. Learn demons and stuff. It just too much for such low amount of time given.
I want to point out that regardless of that stuggle - you did an awesome job with color coding ingredients. That one was apreciated a lot by me :)
I really like the gameplay, it was an interesting experience
The game didn't work properly for me - I gathered the ingredients but when I tried to do the invocation it just froze for a bit, no dance moves, and then after a bit it unfroze. So I will review the bits that I could experience! I love the art style - the outlines on a black background work really well, especially for a game like this. The chill lil background music was also a great fit for the vibe and visual style. This particular sort of game isn't my cup of tea personally (timed games + memory games = my two greatest weaknesses, lol) but it seems like it was really well done. Good work!
Interesting game idea
Thank you for all your wonderful comments! We're working on a fix to get rid of the clients bug. We'll let you know as soon as we update the game! Thank you again!
I laughed a lot at some of the requests, great game! =)
I like graphics
It's an interesting concept, good job!
This is such a fun way of interpret the theme and it fits right in! The different ingredients made me chuckle and the entries written in the book along with the illustrations was such a nice touch. As stated earlier by some, I felt it was very overwhelming to start out, with the time limit, the different ingredients, what the customer wanted and adding the movement needed for the summon. It was complex to a degree that could've been explained better perhaps in keeping a smaller scope or making it clear in UI. But for a presentation of the core gameplay and 'building your demon' it was really fun!
I really could not get into the game. You get given like no time for each customer haha. Skill issue maybe but trying to determine what the spell should be, memorize the pattern and execute all in like 10 seconds was a bit brutal. Plus i had to desperately try interact with objects for a while to even figure out there was a recipe book. Loved the art and vibe but the gameplay wasn't very accessible
The game is just too hard at the start. figuring out which demon to summon takes half the time and then you cant even tell which item is which since there is no tool tip.
The summoning moves are funny but need to be even more clear. I like that you added them to the itch page as a clear picture but in the game there is no time to alt tab and look at it.
Cute game, but I really feel like the game needs a tutorial, or at least have the keys under the dance moves in the book. I found it really hard to remember...
Really interesting idea, but way too little time to actually complete customer orders, especially since the game doesn't tell you exactly what the customer wants and you have to flip through all the demons and just hope you guess right on the first try. I did manage to get one order in which felt really rewarding, but overall it was too much to try and remember on a short timer.
Interesting idea you guys got there, I really like the outline art style, it's simple but doesn't look too bland, and the main character has sprites in all 4 directions is very nice too. And the sound he made while dancing is absolutely hilarious, love that!
But there're some issues and bugs I encountered though and I have too point them out here. The first being the controls at the main menu were wrong, the Q and E buttons was swapped with the A and D, which really bothers me cause I keep pressing the wrong ones during invocations.
Second, I think the difficulty of the game is a little bit too hard, the customers gave no hints of which type of demons they might want for their situations, and the time required to deliver is too short, by the time I finished memorizing the dance sequence the customer was already gone. I think you should make something like a thinking bubble shows which demon the customer wants, and lengthen the wait time a little bit, it'd give the player a moment to "breathe" and make the gameplay more enjoyable.
Third, sometimes I pressed Q to begin the invocation process before accepting the customer's request and then the player just stuck at the sigil for a brief moment. And after the game over screen showed up, I hit "Retry" and interacted with the book, suddenly the game backed to the main menu as soon as I quitted reading, which was kinda annoying because I needed to manually start a new game for the problem to go away.
But beside all those issues the game itself is actually pretty fun to play, it just need a little polishing and bugfixes. After all, consider the short time frame of a game jam, you guys did a great job on this one, congrats!
