LD48 — Deeper and deeper

2021: A Space Odyssey by ChrisCo 2021-04-28T09:52:54Z

The game is really nice - the movemnet is challenging but not unfair, the mood is very nice, the black holes are really cool. The attraction mechanic has the classic twist of bringing you what you need but also putting you in danger. I think really this game is 2 things away from a full steam/mobile game. 1. It is a bit hard, I think there are not enough pink asteroids? I didn't manage to get fuel from anywhere else. 2. Maybe an extra mechanic would be very cool. e.g certain fuel sources can only be picked by an astro guy (maybe with a small jet?) which can leave the ship but then you need the ship to have enough momentum so that you can still come back to it and it won't fall all the way down. Just an example.

Overall great and complete work, top marks :)

@crychair Hi, thanks for taking an interest! You can type things in the chat box to get a response. There are some milestones to achieve in terms of responses to advance your playthrough. Please let me know if I can interest you in a hint/hints.

The Thoroughly Examined Life of Forest Animals by PostFrog 2021-04-28T09:36:25Z

@logan I am very impressed that you managed to get to the karete chop. Unfortuantely we just didn't have time to debug our json dictionaries so certain intended responses do not work as expected. I hope we can find time in the coming 2 weeks to fix some of these issues, so the game would be more playable. If you are interested I can send you some kind of progression guide so that you can exprecience all of the assests (and hidden gems), or just update you when a better version is online.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Scramemory by pragmascript 2022-10-05T10:26:08Z

Nice game, starts off easy and then goes harder. Nice time waster for people who like memory games:)

Base Defense by pvg 2022-10-12T09:01:24Z

Nice game, and nice idea for a hectic tower defense. Maybe I'm a noob, but probably needs some kind of rescale as the game is very hard. Well done!

Gnomageddon by Nikolaj 2022-10-04T15:29:49Z

This game is hilarious! I ended up just bodyblocking the soup with my gnomes. A nice entry for this competition, you really hit the theme theme there, hilarious as well. It would be really aprreciated if there were a red icon signaling that you indeed managed to order your gnomes to attack that skelly.

With different gnome\house types, different skelly types, map design and some polish, you get a really cool steam level tower defence game which I would buy. Well done!

Wizard Heist by TheHansinator 2022-10-18T12:33:06Z

I think that you nailed your music and artstyle. Also, the game is fundamentally fun, I enjoyed myself. Here is what I would suggest:

1. Leaving a room every 10 seconds is a bit not in touch with the pace of the game. I think a more fruitfull direcetion to explore is making an additional enemy spawn every 10 seconds, or makeing them faster or whatever.

2. A chase game is supper fun. You put some nice obstacles to add depth to it, love that! However, I think any chase game deserves a twist - In pacman for instance, after you eat fruit, you are the one who becomes death. A twist more in tune with my previous suggestion and the game overall would be adding some kind of dash mechanic which is on a timer.

Overall very well done!

SVET by HellSquirrel 2022-10-05T08:32:25Z

Very well done, game is genuinely more scary than AAA horror realases! I would greatly appreciate if you give the player some indication on where they should go. Also, in the dark the collision detecion has no weight, and sometimes it is not clear if you are walking or not. Maybe add some light when you approach obstacles?

Overall I enjoyed it a lot! Very good!

10 Seconds to Heaven by Mcnuttys 2022-10-04T11:17:24Z

Nice premise, a physics engine explosion game! The only problem is frustration when you lose :( Do deal with this frustration, maybe add a "kick" mechanic where you can kick the boxes for relatively long distances. Also it would be cool if there was some kind of indicator of the bomb range. I know it is cheating, but the thing is that such an interesting concept deserves a few more mechanics and elements to nail it down. Overall great idea and not bad at all as a compo entry!

Drift Boom Boom by sonictimm 2022-10-12T08:57:33Z

Nice game! Definitely fun to drive around and shoot the guys. Your level design also works well, with ways to intercept cars that are on a different part of the course than you. While there are many different ways to expand the game, the following basic tool is needed in almost every one I can imagine; The player needs some information about where the red cars are, so that they could pull off some cool intercepts. If you want to give a lot of information - a minimap will work best. If you want to give only slight information so that the player is forced to be one their toes, maybe some kind of radar (that shows their location every 10 seconds...).

Overall very fun, driving and shooting were borned to be mixed.

Police Arrive Every 10 Seconds by ManTou 2022-10-05T11:22:29Z

Wow, this is so much fun! I had to force myself to stop playing so that I could look at other people's game. Well done! The premise of robbing safes and throwing the money to safe zones is so cool! You could do so many different things to turn it into a full on rougelite game, well done!

I encourge you to explore this premise, because I had so much fun, I think there is potential for a really good game here!

LASER BEAM! by Pietrek 2022-10-05T10:38:32Z

Nice game, runs smoothly. To make it a fun arcady time waster, I suggest working on the following elements: 1. A bar which counts down until the next shot. 2. Something to do, some depth to the movment so that you will have something to do between shots. 3. A progression system of your gun - as you aquire parts and data points on how to fix the gun, the zombies become stronger and more abundent...

Had fun! The smoothness makes the game quite enjoyable:)

New Horizons by ditam 2022-10-05T08:19:06Z

Enjoyable narrative, had fun! I wish there were a good ending:( I think that "every 10 seconds something happens, but you can control what '10' means" is a very cool twist on the theme. I think some more story would benefit the game very much. A cool ending could be where you get to choose at what velocity you will travel before you go to sleep, thinking about the different reprecussions - life back on earth, the ongiong madness of the AI, etc...

Well done!:)

Neon Speed Gauntlet by Empty Set 2022-10-04T15:02:50Z

The game is nice, but not the best fit for the theme. If you could design the puzzles to work around the mechanic "every 10 seconds the player dashes" or maybe "every 2 seconds the player jumps and every 5 seconds the player dashes", it would be a better fit, and would also be a cool twist on the ordinary dash mechanic.

Overall I did enjoy it however, the movement is quite polished, well done!

J-Menuing by nyxkn 2022-10-05T08:06:05Z

Very innovative game, the idea you get 10 seconds to execute all the attacks is great. I actually never cycled through, but I hope if you attack with everyone and still have time, then you can begin attacking again, that would really fit the premise. The idea of adding "twists" is also cool, and you come up with more and more of them. If you end up with a large pool of twists, I suggest activitaing only a certain number of them every round, and communicating that to the player (Or... maybe not communicating that? I wonder what would be best...). Slap a story, some GRAMPHICS, polish the gameplay a bit more and you end up with a highly enjoyable and very unique steam game, well done! :)

Goop the Lab! by Adam Gallina 2022-10-05T07:35:04Z

I finished the game, it was kinda of great! The level design is surprisngly smart and effecient, so you get to pull off cool stuff after you get all your powers. Really well done on the level design!

Backseat developing - It feels like the progression is too fast, you get everything really quickly. Maybe think about "slots" so that you can equip only so-many abilities and upgrades per try? That would also fit (except when it doesn't) your great level.

Good job!

Making Connections by PostFrog 2022-10-05T10:41:56Z

@jaco-van-hemert Thanks for trying out our game. We prepared some nice assests for the map, but didn't have time to stylize it. Nice try looking for the chameleon, it is actually hidden on the map, and you need to interact with the map in order to find it.

We indeed planned to stylize the map and add multiple interactions with map elements. (Think hidden food, hidden advantages for the game), but unfortunately just couldn't do that on time... Thank you again for trying it out!

RogueDungeon: A Deck Builder by thedude3600 2022-10-05T07:46:52Z

I think it is a nice game, it is fun, 10 seconds is a good time to make a choice. A nice entry into the gamejam. My strategy was sticking to corners though - in the corner only 2 orcs can attack you, and they will deal 4 damage per round, so as long as I had the potion, I was invincible in corners! If the damage\health would be rescaled to kill off campy tactics like that, and in general if you add more cards(say damage in a square, damage along a line, "powered" move cards that allow you to move more squares, etc...) it could become a very cool rougelike.

Another point of note - The game feels really rythmic, perhaps add a rythem element, where you choose your cards along a beat or something? I think it could be cool. Overall cool idea, and a working solid execution. Well done!

Finest Urban Planning by Fnessa 2022-10-05T08:44:26Z

Nice idea and nice execution, I enjoyed running around collecting the batteries. Well done!:)

Ten-Second Teleport by RaXaH 2022-10-04T13:42:37Z

The game, art and music are great. Changing the level every 10 seconds and having 3 spells allows for a varied gameplay, well done! In cases where the player is split between two level, what I love to see are puzzles which require actions in both levels combined in order to progress in a single level. This was very well done with the beggining of the game when aquiring the spells, but is almost not present in the consequent puzzles. This kind of design is crucial for this kind of teleport game.

Another thing - the jumping is not fully pulished. In my opinion, the velocity along the x-axis should not change at all, or only very little, when the player is in mid-air. In your game when you jump you lose all momentum along the x-axis in midair, it is limiting and noticable. Also the collision-detector needs some polish, but not a lot. The edges of the map feel spikey, and sometimes the charachter wiggles really fast when it is between two close objects.

I would not be writing these comments if I didn't like the game so much. If you explore on this you can get a very nice metroidvania type game! The immersion is already there, well done again! Cheers :)

Ten-Second Teleport by RaXaH 2022-10-04T14:50:05Z

@hekateras I reached the final puzzle but I died there, and at that point I didn't want to replay from the start. I think I did figure it out though, and indeed it incoporates the teleport as true mechanic, well done:)

Within by Waysneighborgo2 2022-10-04T14:46:31Z

It is a very nice game, bonus points on theme, it is incoporated very well. The idea that different objects give you different eject velocities and directions is very cool. Now, I do believe this idea can be into a "getting over it" scale game. To do this, except for certain zoom bugs (when the screen changes by differet aspects when entering different objects, it sometimes breakes the game), all you need to do is turn this game into a puzzler. The puzzler genre fits this game more then the survive style IMO.

Overall great idea, great game, very expandable, well done! High points!

Mages Arena by makar-ss 2022-10-04T10:58:13Z

Very nice mood. I am a sucker for wizards and spells, so you got me there. I think it is a very solid entry for a 3-day project. Kinda hard to get started though, It is somewhat time consuming to get 30 coins, but I still had a lot of fun!

The King Slayer by BlackCat508 2022-10-05T09:01:33Z

Fun game, the shooting is polished and not cloncky, I enjoyed it a lot!

Elos - a progressive third person fighter by Appleplectic 2022-10-05T10:33:15Z

Fun game! The graphics are awesome, but should be more optimized. I also like the economy in this game, it is quite good. The only thing is that it seems to me that the only way to increase the difficulty is to buy more zombies. While that makes sense and is a cool idea, I think that more and more zombies should spawn anyway, both to increase gold generation artificially, and to force the player to spend gold wisely\ not get overpowered before progressing. If you polish the game, economy, and add some weight to the hits as well, this could be a very fun brawler on steam:)

Eldritch Eaters by seisus 2022-10-05T07:58:04Z

The premise is cool, I didn't get how to open the door after all the leavers, but it was still nice. I would also add an indicator of the monster's general area. I think it would be fraustrating if it just showed up out of nowhere and got one of your guys without warning. I also think it would be cool if every 10 seconds your light diminished unless you get fuel or whatever.

Overall cool spooky premise with great potential!

Time control in 10s! by Eager 2022-10-04T13:17:07Z

Ok, I am going to write a lot, but it only because I enjoyed your game so much. 1. The map design is quite polished. The assests look truly great. I am keeping that in mind, because it being so polished only helps to notice the small immersion breaking scenery changes. 2. The fact that you have to reveserse time when the clock reaches 10 is a twist on the time reversal mechanic which is appropriate with the 10 second theme. 3. The game looks really good, but the dialogue is a bit skeletal, and it stands out. It would greatly improve the experience if you get some more background story until you reach the time reversal mechanic, or have the main charachters say some more interesting things. I would not be writing this if the game didn't look so good. 4. The puzzles are cool. In fact, some of them are very cool, it is clear that they required some thought to construct, but not everything is appropriately communicated to the player. Sure, I noticed that when the time is reversed the pool's surface becomes solid, and so solved the puzzle, but: i) I could have just as well not noticed it, and while the information is there, it would lead to unnecassary fraustration. The idea that some mechanics are not clear does not fit the overall design of the game IMO. ii) Why would the pool change with the time reversal mechanic? This is not explained in the game. Another issue is one which comes naturally with the time reversal mechanic being forced at 10 sec. It is possible to be soft-locked out of some puzzles. For instance, I got soft-locked in the puzzle immediately after the pool. While it is possible to (rather) quickly nevigate between levels, I had to go through the pool again, which is unnecassary.

Overall great game, I encourege you to work on it more. Capping the time reversal is an interesting mechanic, it might be possible to construct some very interesting puzzles with this cap. Polish the map some more, enhance the writing, and you have a small steam game:)

Puncher Pusher by WhumpusWu 2022-10-04T12:30:14Z

Ok, I really like the premise, the music, the art, the posters, almost everything. For some reason though, I seem to have a bug where the first train won't ever leave\open its doors for the second time. Even if the second train arrived. It is not fixed for me when restarting the game.

Watch Your Step by red-stake 2022-10-04T12:51:46Z

Very good game, great mood, great fun! I had a hard time, until I decided to stick in the left corner and shoot right and up. You also get bonus points on theme in my book, making it part of the level design and not part of the main mechanic is a good take. The only thing is that the mouse sensitivity is too low. I get that increasing it will make the game easier, but it just feels cloncky. I would prefer high mouse sensitivty with more fortified enemies or something else to increase the challenge. Overall very high score, the game is addictive and I easily spent more time playing this than most games I checked out.

Watch Your Step by red-stake 2022-10-04T14:48:22Z

@red-stake I can get that, increasing sensitivity would really trivialize the game. Then let me suggest considering some kind of discrete-angle system, if it can work, it would keep the challenge while getting rid of the heaviness.

Loop Arena by LorandusBianchi 2022-10-05T07:14:05Z

Nice idea, the game is surprisngly rich with just the simple mechanics you put in. If you add weapons, different enemy types, maybe different ways to control your clones, you can actually design a cool and fiercly unique frantic shooter, or, even better IMO, with the right level design this could be made into a puzzler.

Good job!
