LD23 — Tiny World

Who stole my pixels?!? by matheus23 2012-04-23T17:25:00

Some minor graphical and language issues. Seems like an idea with potential, but it was tough from the execution to figure out what to do. The first time I harvested all my trees immediately, putting the game into an unwinnable state, the second time I left the trees for a bit and wound up with tons, but then putting the wood in the tower-factory-thing didn't seem to accomplish anything, as far as I could tell.

If you're planning on producing a post-LD version, my recommendations would be 1. have some minor tree growth even when the island has no trees left, 2. try a more stable progression of trees, rather than exponential growth (it would probably lead to a smoother resource curve) and 3. just add more feedback in to make it easier to figure out the game state and strategize your next move.

A Theft of Mass by uberneen 2012-04-23T17:31:00

Neat concept, but it could use a fair bit of tightening up. Controls felt a bit sluggish, as has been mentioned, and the delay on exploding when you hit the ground made it feel a bit floaty. I also seemed to have some interaction issues where I could target one block with my laser but not another a similar distance away.

Cat Planet by shaunxcode 2012-04-24T16:17:00

Apparently I am terrible at looking after space cats.

Nice work. Art was cute and serviceable, although it would have been nice to have the asteroids have some detail on them. Music was repetitive but weirdly catchy. I had some issues with frame drop, but it was still playable. Minor collision issue: it would have been nice to have asteroids disappear when they're inside my planet, as then I have no way of dealing with them. Good concept!

Little Sheep by Merkurius Team 2012-04-30T20:45:00

I also suffered from the ceiling bug. Cute little game, and the music was nice. Bounding boxes seemed a little mis-sized, which made some of the jumping a little tricky. The conversation system could use some visual/usability improvements, but it's nice to see an LD game with a little more narrative.

Tiny Crash Landing by Ranoka 2012-04-30T06:16:00

Would have been nice to see a more complete version, but it looks like it's shaping up for sure! Graphics are cute. The music is interesting and reminds me a little bit of the Mother games somehow.

The Traveler by Thotor 2012-04-23T17:41:00

Really enjoyed it!

Bad things: It could use a lot of polish in terms of character movement, as the jumps were inconsistent and a little difficult to control. Like other commenters, I also had some difficulty telling which blocks would fall next. Also, the Portal reference seemed out of place and unnecessary.

Good things: the particle/shaking effect was great and really sold the concepts. The puzzle mechanic was simple but fun to use. The idea of exploring recursive snowglobes was neat and fit the theme very well. This definitely has the legs to grow into a larger game with a little bit more time to put into art and controls (and maybe some light piano music in the background?)

Run, Unicorn, Run! by fprawn 2012-04-24T05:59:00

Very polished art! Could have used some audio. Controls were good but felt a little floaty; a nicer sense of momentum when running and a bit more 'oomph' and this would feel pretty good to play.

I like how happy the aliens seem to be to see my gun-toting unicorn. Almost made me feel a little bad for shooting them!

Redbeard the Borrower by jrasmussen24 2012-04-24T05:52:00

Nice work! Controls felt a bit awkward, unfortunately, also it was tough to tell what the visibility rules were for the human. I kept somehow getting caught while I thought I was hidden behind or under things. Still, good concept and I liked the variety of actions. I'd play a more polished version for sure!

Lililput by Incredible Ape 2012-04-25T02:47:00

Ha ha, very good! Typing words incorrectly is hard. Very polished.

Basically every time I died it was because I accidentally hit the wrong letter and got locked into a slow guy way in the back. Still, totally entertaining for a short game. Great art and catchy music.

Space Dozer by desmarkie 2012-04-27T01:01:00

Neat idea! I had some trouble with the controls as sorting out clockwise from anti-clockwise was at times kind of tough, although I did eventually start to sort of get used to it. Also some weird difficult/mechanics issues. I.e. I was losing pretty hard every time until I dropped right down to the planet surface and just fired away at the bases of all the buildings, at which point I breezed through the game quite easily.

Still, in general acceleration and steering and such were good, and it looked pretty nice in a minimalist way, so it's definitely on the right track. With more content and balancing and with a few fixes to some of the gameplay issues this would work really well.

Kumiho by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-04-24T16:07:00

Excellent! I couldn't beat the first boss, but then I'm terrible at SHMUPs. Excellent graphics, catchy music. The teleportation mechanic was pretty awesome, although I kept jumping into bullets. The only thing missing is some kind of player death effect (but given the polish on everything else I just assume that's due to time issues rather than being an oversight).

Planet Life by Sos 2012-04-27T00:50:00

Great game! It was a bit hard to tell if I was doing the right thing, but in this case that wins extra points for being more like life.

Good presentation and cheerfully cynical.

Pin Party by cambrian_era 2012-04-23T22:31:00

Pretty solid! Enjoyed the art style and music. Pretty difficult, but not totally impossible. I found it pretty tough to complete the party after getting all the angels, but I did at least make it to round two.

Pale Blue Dot by KevinWorkman 2012-04-25T00:52:00

I won! I'm not going to lie. I could listen to Sagan talk for hours. I had some graphical and sound issues (screen kept flickering and some of the sound levels were really low while others were really high). Fun, though, and totally worked as advertised!

Craemle Zone by PsySal 2012-04-25T00:19:00

Wow, this has quite a lot of content for a 48 hour game. Looks and feels very homemade, but in a good way. The voice-acting is very community-theatre, but weirdly enjoyable, and the music is hypnotic.

Unfortunately, I got a little stuck after bringing the planets everything they asked for. I tried bringing them more stuff, but nothing seemed to change what they said? Still, nice work!

Gulliver by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2012-04-30T04:07:00

Super solid game for 48 hours. And a surprising amount of surprisingly catchy music!

Merlin, Build Me a Castle by ChrisWhitman 2012-04-23T15:44:00

Yeah, I was going to put player keys onscreen in the build menu but I literally just ran out of time!

Merlin, Build Me a Castle by ChrisWhitman 2012-04-23T18:31:00

I updated the page HTML (no changes to the game; don't worry!) so it has the keys on it. Hopefully that helps!

Merlin, Build Me a Castle by ChrisWhitman 2012-04-25T18:54:00

Yeah, there were originally going to be multiple hit states for the wooden pieces so they were sturdier, but that 48 hour time limit is a harsh mistress.

I promise better balancing when I get to the post-LD48 edition!

Slime Mold by howieV (binarygirl) 2012-04-23T17:07:00

Very nicely put together! More time needed on the game part, obviously, but it has a great feel to it. Loved the weird flickery organic-ness to it.
