I really like the music! And your hiding tiles visual effect looks really good too. I enjoyed it a lot.

gsoutz 2025-04-07 09:25

tutorial please. I throw some things and push some blocks, but couldn't go anywhere.

daandruff 2025-04-07 09:43

@gsoutz What do you mean? There's a tutorial right at the start.

coderaurus 2025-04-07 10:25

Damn solid entry! I love the visuals the vibe from soundtrack. It was fun! For a moment I felt like I got soft locked at - fourth level was it? The next level just within reach, one block between us.. If only I had any spades left. I hoped the restart button would have worked there, in case you get stuck.

Good job!

EDIT: Looking down scrolls the page as well so it gets kind of unwieldy over time.

daandruff 2025-04-07 10:37

@CodeRaurus You are entirely correct. I should have left the restart button active even when not dead. My sleep deprived brain told me it was a good idea to only have that function active at that state. And if you want to play without the scrolling issue, the link to the game works better. Thanks for playing!

aly-name 2025-04-07 11:04

It's very concise and looks fantastic! I love its overall ambience and palette.

I wonder what kind of game engine this is made of? It feels so great \\(>ω<*)

daandruff 2025-04-07 11:08

@aly-name No game engine at all. Made in vanilla-js without frameworks of any kind :) Thanks for your kind words

maxkaemmerer 2025-04-07 13:39

This seems great. Love the way you did the tutorial right in the game

ali-yagmur 2025-04-07 14:58

Overall, polished and fun to play. Probably will be on the top places of this event. Well done :) Btw. I didn't need any further tutorial or something, got the idea, played and finished.

noodlemaster 2025-04-07 15:41

Fun and neat little game. Really impressive that you didn't use an engine. Also, you can softlock yourself by digging a hole until you have no more shovels and can't jump back out. Reset only seems to work when you're dead.

jiri-hysek 2025-04-07 17:02

Very cool game! When I got a grip of it, it was fun! Unfortunatelly I dug myself into a hole I couldn't leave. I'd recommend making "R" working also during the game. I couldn't do anything, so I had to reload my page and lost my progress. But it was my fault :)

Graphics and audio are very nice; I like the minimalistic style.

daandruff 2025-04-07 17:08

@noodlemaster @jiri-hysek Yea, for some reason I decided to deactivate the reset key if you weren't dead which was a total miss on my part. I don't want to update the game now, since it wouldn't be fair I think :(

onngd 2025-04-07 20:05

good work, the potential of the idea is realized well, I liked it

frutal 2025-04-07 20:23

I loved this game. It was very cute. I loved the simple color scheme and the music.

I found that you can dig to your side and move in to break a large fall. I wonder if it's intended but I liked it.

I did get softlocked though, in a place with no way to climb out and no shovels left. So I would have liked the "R" button to restart me at any time.

clare-chan1738 2025-04-07 21:22

I really love the graphics, they're so cute! The overall gameplay feels smooth even for a platformer. Super great submission :)

rustywolf 2025-04-08 03:07

Damn this game looks and feels awesome, well done

nimbushead 2025-04-08 03:57

That was pretty much perfect!

ssiannas 2025-04-08 08:04

Very fun game and it feels pretty polished! Awesome aesthetics, uniform color palette and the gameplay was fun enough to keep you engaged for a while. Especially liked the audio :D

max-sanch 2025-04-08 10:42

It's a difficult game for me, maybe I haven't fully figured it out🤔 Beautiful art! Unique gameplay! Great job!

vidarn 2025-04-08 11:18

I loved everyting about it!

There are a lot of little strategies that you learn when getting into it, like how you sometimes can spot tufts of grass and know that a square is safe to stand on, even if you cannot see the tile itself.

I'm also really impressed by the fact that the layout of the cave is randomly generated and you get a new set of levels if you reload the page.

What a great game you made

thrawn911 2025-04-08 12:26

Great game, I like the retro visuals and the unique game mechanic.

dywanix 2025-04-08 21:39

awsome artstyle!

gemcc 2025-04-09 00:45

Wow such a cool game! The vision fading in and out, and the art in general is so pretty. Very addicting gameplay as well!

whateverdat 2025-04-09 13:45

It's very polished, and it uses no engine/framework, its just insane how well this is built... Great work!

neeck-kola 2025-04-10 20:40

I like visuals and color pallete you choosed, but last level is too hard, bc of jump power of main character, with less power it will be more easy, other than that, great job!)

life-lich 2025-04-10 20:47

Took some time, but I got there Really nice that you included an end scene. I feel like a lot of jam games skip that. done.JPG

andrewkennedy 2025-04-11 03:07

Phew! That took me quite a long time, but I finally got it!

Screenshot from 2025-04-10 19-58-30.png

After I got past the second level, I realized I needed to use the glow sticks liberally, and be a little more stingy with the shovels. Whenever I died it was frustrating, but not because it felt unfair, rather because I realized I had been rushing too much. This was very much a "slow and steady wins the race" kind of game.

Your art style is gorgeous. The 3-color palette looked beautiful, and I love the dithered pattern for the blocks at the edge of your vision.

Usually I like to leave a bit of constructive feedback, but I honestly can't think of anything that this game needed more of or less of. Really well done!

gbegreg 2025-04-11 07:01

Good game, love it !

moondweller 2025-04-16 19:48

I find the artstyle really great! The gif you placed in your post showing the solution with vanishing tiles got my attention :) Yep, I have held the browser tab with your post opened for several days until got some time to play :D

Btw, it took me some time to finish all the levels. The last two appeared really difficult for me. I tried to come up with some strategy of using some shovels and only two glowsticks for the level, but that was never enough. So I fell back to memorising the level (what is not a strong side of mine :D) and by tryharding I somehow managed to finish the game. Ah, yes, I really adore the smooth reload of the level!

So, overall, I wonder if there is a proper strategy that keeps you away from jumping into the void?

daandruff 2025-04-17 07:31

@moondweller Thanks for the kind words. Well... there isn't a consistent way to solve the levels since they are procedurally generated. But there are two factors that helps to more effectively climb down. Number one is that the cave is based on a sinus curve, going back and forth. So with that in mind, you can start to guess where the ground might be coming up. Also, you can use the grass patches to see the ground in some cases; There might be a single or a couple still pixels below you. That means that there is grass underneath. One final trick is by using the fall damage system to your advantage. The game calculates fall damage from your starting position. So in some cases you can jump up and around a tile before going down to lower your jump-start-position so to speak. Thanks again for playing the game :)

moondweller 2025-04-17 08:18

@daandruff Thanks for the explanations! Yeah, I've noticed some sinusoidal patterns when the phase went short, but I didn't suppose that the whole level is based on that approach :D

Hmm... since all the levels are procedurally generated, then it's really non-obvious on how to make them certainly solvable. Anyway, the procedural generation of levels is cool by itself, imho.

euler-moises 2025-04-21 17:49

Very cute. The color palette is very pretty. I saved it here so I can try to finish it later.

Congratulations!
