A fun little game, but there were a few annoyances that stood out to me. The camera seems weirdly zoomed in for a game about exploring to find stuff, and this is amplified when nothing is in sight and you are waiting for your wind to recharge. This means that you can also accidentally add stuff to your island with larger islands. Another thing, though minor, is it feels a little weird to not be able to fill in little nooks and gaps. Other than that it seems like a solid foundation for a game. The only bug I found was that dudes can walk over holes in your island.

Overall a simple and fun game, I just wish the camera could see more. Nice work!

This is such a cute idea! I love the art of the little guys collecting wheat and just overall the game felt super polished, with nice sound effects and animations! I just had a great time floating around adding new blocks to my island. It's such a simple and neat idea super well executed! Great job

Great, I was hooked for a while! I think the restriction of movement looks very artificial, sometimes I could sail around for quite a long time without finding any islands at all, and the artificial limitation in the form of wind was just annoying. Graphics and sounds are great, I had a good time. The basic idea is very interesting, I would like to see its continuation!

Nice, it's satisfying to see your island grow! I think the movement and camera could be improved a bit, I'd prefer slow but steady movement to the lurching movement. I liked watching my little guys run around though

Very interesting concept! I like the idea of building the environment rather then controlling the units in environment. It would be nice to be able to rotate the island and maybe add more clouds to the background to feel the movement better. 2024-04-23 22_06_35-itch.io — Mozilla Firefox.png

I found it very satisfying to watch my island grow. I enjoyed the enemy islands, but barely came across any of them and eventually I bumped into an enemy island with a massive army on that almost eliminated me. I would have liked to have something I could have done to help my dudes out in that situation like maybe blowing them off the island or something since I had really blown them into a pickle. The art was very cute and I liked seeing all the little guys walking around my big lumpy island.

I liked the art style and the units in particular, it was sometimes hard to tell exactly where an island would connect. I only found one enemy island so it would be nice if they were a little more prevalent.

I like the graphics and the idea but it looks like in this game you need to intentionally seek for defeat=)

Loved the game, replayed a bunch of times as well!

Some improvement suggestions: - outline the UI text, since white becomes invisible on white background (clouds) - remove the wind resource OR add a mechanic that allows you to accelerate the generation of it (windmills or something silly like that come to mind) - maybe auto-fill the gaps that can't be filled by joining more land - let the Player press and hold the spacebar for the island to continuosly fly towards the cursor instead of mashing the spacebar

Very cool concept, I like it a lot. It's pretty nice watching your island grow. But I think it needs more love!

- I wish I could see more around me. - I would've loved to be able to use the wind ability with a mouse click (and to hold it) - I think the wind could recharge faster. Or maybe I could build stuff that harvest more wind? etc... - The icons are way, way too big. - There were many idle moments in which there wasn't much to do but wait for the wind to recharge. - And yeah, as others mentioned, sky dudes can fly! haha

I would love to see this getting expanded!

I managed to get to 60 pops. By this time, it wouldn't zoom out anymore and was starting to lag. Cool mechanic of moving the island instead of the pops! The waiting for the wind recharge was a bit annoying, though. Good job team!

i happened to spend way more time on this game than i'd expect! all the island building possibilities are very nice!

i was not fan of the controls tho, i think a click would be better than having to press space bar to move. the wind jauge felt a bit annoying to me too.

apart from that, i've had a good time, played like 5 or 6 runs and got better time after time :D

Hey, I played this game on stream! Overall it was a nice and chill island builder, whilst it wasn’t exactly deep, I still played a few times to try and conquer some enemies (with varying success). The background should have had more details to it, I like the occasional clouds which make it clear that you’re moving, but these were too infrequent. Also I wish you could upgrade your wind recharge speed (maybe by having more dudes, or with another resource such as coal). You can watch the vod to see what happened here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2129902300

An island building game is a really unique idea for this theme! I imagine it would have been wise to use a colour other than white for the text, but else great work.

Screenshot 2024-04-28 142755.png Interesting idea! I like how it works and I want to see what could be added to it. Some kind of system where fields eventually run out and you have to keep adding stuff to sustain the population, maybe?

happyglitch 2024-04-29 14:51

Very interesing idea. I wish there were no limits to wind pushing. It's annoying when you are left with 3 wind, and you have to wait.

This one really got me. I also made a sort of simulation puzzle game, so it's no wonder I'm into Sky Dudes! I love the relaxing build-up phase and how it steadily ramps up to more intricate gameplay. The pixel art is so adorable, and I'm guessing you know it puts out major Populous vibes, which is a huge win :] The way you scale everything as your island grows is impressively clean.

The little dude animations are surprisingly full of character and a treat to watch. Visually my only feedback is to redraw the UI elements at a little higher resolution so they don't look so different and use a font that fits the pixel art vibe. I would also prefer to see a bar for the wind instead of a number. The controls were ok but I feel like you could probably just have a click to move system and scrap the spacebar all together - then it would play perfectly on mobile too.

The performance did suffer once I was up around 20 dudes, but for a game jam it's quite playable. I'm sure there's plenty of efficiency you could squeeze out with some refactoring. This was one of my favorites; awesome job, unique idea, great execution, love to see it!

I had great fun playing your game! It has a really fun concept, and def could be developed into something more! I agree with most of the suggestions above, but I think it's an awesome achievement for a jam game, overall great work!Screenshot from 2024-05-02 03-56-43.png haha! you can probably see I wasn't great at steering and all my islands were crazy shapes!
