How download it?

oh-seung-min 2023-01-10 13:51

Gameplay images are very interesting, but how to download this game? I want to play it...

+ I like it's atmosphere and music! but in my personal opinion, puzzle or advanture(relaxing) genre would be more suitable with it's good vibe. Thank you for this game!

shp 2023-01-10 20:21

@danyclockworker @oh-seung-min Oops!! I messed up pasting the wrong link into the LD page, my bad! Thanks for letting me know, it's now fixed.

offdutyextractors 2023-01-12 06:00

Plays very well and looks even better. I noticed a bug saying that the quota was met after any amount of gems is put in the portal. Also you can only buy upgrades once which made me sad because I wanted to spec everything into movement.

tinykidtoo 2023-01-12 06:19

Nice and polished, I love the little arms when the crewmember sprints. I like the moody art and sound. I did find the time limits a bit too tough, but I kept having to run away before I was killed from all of the gems I found. Overall I had fun.

horda 2023-01-12 06:26

This game needs more ratings! The graphics reminds me of Risk Of Rain 2 and the foggy athmosphere and the morrowind-like monsters had a real unique mood to this LD entry. I could'nt get past second level on normal difficulty, the gems were very far away. Also how do you make skill point on first level? Do I have to collect more gems than the objective? Controls are good, except that shooting up while looking down is a bit confusing at first. It's nice you even took some time to add a menu and game states, it works well. Good game, i liked it !

leggy 2023-01-12 07:42

Very straightforward game. I tried it out in normal difficulty selecting more speed, more damage and health recovery speed. turned out the 3rd stage was a bit too difficult, I could not manage to get all the gems, but I guess I could not find the fastest route. Simple and challenging, very good job!

shp 2023-01-12 11:27

Thank you all for comments and playing!

@offdutyextractors thanks for the feedback! there was some trouble making those instructional messages feel right, was running a bit out of time with them  the upgrade system works based on the extra gems past the quota, it might have not been the clearest, if you play on easy to test things out, you should be pretty easily maxing out run speed and energy for sanic speed gameplay :runner:

@tinykidtoo @leggy yeah the difficulty was very hard to balance properly in time, I would definitely make changes to that for a post jam version, thanks for confirming!

@horda yep, you have to collect past the quota, it's not super clear but I tried making the boss messages hint at that, thanks for the great feedback!

unentokku 2023-01-12 20:15

Interesting, my mouse's left click is broken so I've used autohotkey to bind it to another key but the script doesn't work with this game, this is the first game/program where even running the script as administrator didn't make it work. Probably nothing you can(or should) do about it, just thought I'd mention it.

shp 2023-01-12 20:36

@unentokku interesting, good to know, good reminder for me to make the menus work without a mouse :)

someone 2023-01-12 20:47

Very nice. A good amount of polish for a jam. Lovely atmosphere. It would have been nice to have longer to explore each level. Extra points don't carry over to the next stage, I accidentally pressed the next button before upgrading. Armour and damage didn't seem to be worth upgrading since the main enemy is the time limit.

mnocenti 2023-01-12 21:10

Goob job on the graphics, that character model is really cute.

The time limit felt a bit harsh, I ran out of time just in front of the portal a few times. (I was in normal).

I feel like the progression would be more satisfying if we could buy upgrades to carry more gems (maybe at a higher price ?).

The music is really nice, really puts you in that eerie atmosphere.

christian-zommerfelds 2023-01-12 21:20

This game is great. Congratulations!

What I really like: * The graphics and athmosphere * The astronaut's/robot animations * That you need to balance between sprinting and not sprinting * How smooth it plays

Maybe to improve: * Monsters could spawn on you/near you * I didn't know how to get upgrade points * Music was a little too calm for the timer based mechanic

shp 2023-01-12 21:47

Thanks for the comments!

@someone thank you! I agree about the balancing, wish I had a few hours extra to tweak it :)

@mnocenti thanks! yeah the timer is a bit too harsh, so I don't blame anyone for going in with easy difficulty. I made the timer match the song length and it was too late to make it longer

@christian-zommerfelds thank you for playing and the detailed feedback!

dizzy 2023-01-13 14:05

I really really loved the graphics, that is an amazing job!

joshedev 2023-01-14 01:22

I love the atmosphere and overall mood here, the graphics and SFX are awesome. I got down to the wire on pretty much each level, I'd be interested in seeing how a pro runs this game. I very much like the ghostly jellyfish imagery of the enemies. I never got much use out of the upgrades, since I barely had enough time to begin with, but other than that it feels like a complete short experience. Well done!

hexyvexy 2023-01-14 01:48

Delightful!

kikiriki367 2023-01-14 04:17

Someone already mentioned but the graphics blend of Morrowind(older games) + risk of rain really hits the spot! Also added with the gameplay reminds me of death stranding, so with some great music, which this game has, it makes a really enjoyable experience. The best i could do sadly is on Hard mode, and it was with exploiting, not a bug but a feature, "the old throw and run choo choo train technique". I want that patented in my name! By carrying more than 3 crystlas by simply chuging them in front of me as soon as i pick them up, effectively making a train of 6+ gems... Only thing i would mention here is that the game does need rebalancing, since the upgrade oreder should always be-> Run Speed> Collect speed/Energy Max/Regen(balance the rest of points) > Other(shouldnt even be taken)... Other than that it was great and good job! :))))

shp 2023-01-14 18:21

Thank you all!

@joshedev some friends completed it on Very Hard just maxing out run speed and harvest speed, I haven't had the time to do it myself yet

@kikiriki367 morrowind has been super influential for me for almost 20 years so no wonder! yeah the balancing was left until the end without enough time, I redid the whole gameplay loop for the waves on monday (originally compo but had to "drop out" into jam because it wasn't fun and sounds were lacking on sunday), and the result shows that it could use more refining

kikiriki367 2023-01-14 18:29

So you say its possible on very hard... Ill see about that! :)) Jam = compo in my opinion to be honest, both are a big feat to achieve and truth is usually you do the code for a similar amount of time, just a little bit less stressed.. Well even with redoing the whole gameplay it feels more balanced and polished than 90% of games. Because lets be real that is the hardest part in the end :)) So great job, you made something really wonderful! :))

shp 2023-01-14 18:44

@kikiriki367 thank you very much for your comments! you're very encouraging!

echo-gameworks 2023-01-15 21:58

Perfect execution on the feeling of being in an alien land! The music was great for adding even more atmosphere. The mechanics were really well done. I felt like the upgrades were meaningful and I was looking forward to spending getting that next upgrade. It's just the right level of difficulty, too. Really awesome work! You should be extremely proud of the entry.

mika314 2023-01-15 23:01

Nice chill music, cute little robot, fun and muddy game.

bloodfin 2023-01-15 23:03

This was really fun! Great mood and I liked the upgrade system. Difficulty felt well balanced and the shooting and controls were easy to use. Great work getting this all done and in the jam! Want to explore more worlds collecting gems!

joror 2023-01-15 23:13

Cool moody game! The timer for achieving each level seems to be really hard to do (at Normal) - put everything in run speed, but even then things were just too far apart. (or I was just very unlucky) Music put some good work in too. Nicely done!

khaotom 2023-01-16 23:31

Love the screen dark effect when a monster is close, really helpful feedback when maybe your camera is pointed a different direction. Smooth running game with a fun game feel. The push pull of deciding whether to fight or sprint is pretty cool. I think visually its great too. Simple but classic. Great work on this.

steffo 2023-01-17 08:41

So... shiny... :sunflower: :gem:

My progress

I managed to **complete the game on normal** with 10/7 gems on the third level!

Feedback

Game

The **atmosphere and mood were great**! Your depiction of a foggy landscape was very realistic, and the **monsters dwelling there were a perfect fit**; the **music too fit the mood of the game** very well!

The **camera pixelification** _(not sure on the correct term tbh, even if we used it in our own game)_ **was done really well**!

Good idea **positioning the player at the bottom of the screen** instead of the center to give more screen space to the surrounding environment and allowing you to think about what route to take to collect gems!

On the first playthrough for some reason **I missed that extra gems would convert to upgrades**. Not sure why, I immediately noticed the message the second time...

A **jump key would've been great** for those rare cases where gems would [get stuck floating on rocks](https://i.imgur.com/nkLzoDg.png)!

**Enemies ended up being a bit harmless** (on Normal difficulty), maybe making them faster would've helped to put the pressure on the player... Are they faster on higher difficulties?

Overall, amazing job!

Distribution

Thanks for **providing a native Linux build**! I appreciated it!

Have we met?

I thought I had seen your name somewhere a while ago... I was right!

I found both your account and Nightingalle's on the Fediverse and followed you both!

flatgub 2023-01-17 09:29

I absolutely loved this, the presentation in both visuals and sound/music were perfect! The aesthetic is consistent and really nice, the animations are adorable, the gameplay is fun, really really good! Very well done!

shp 2023-01-17 17:01

@steffo thank you for the very detailed feedback! lots of good observations, camera stuff very deliberate and so is lack of jumping (sorry no bhops... and yeah it causes problems too), enemy balance ended up being too easy due to lack of time, followed you back too

thank you very much everyone else too!

arron-fowler 2023-01-20 09:31

I really like the feel of this one generally. It was nice to play, everything felt pretty solid and slick. If I had to pick up on anything it was that it ended up feeling a bit dull and safe to play. It had tension but never felt like I was in peril. Great job though I liked it a lot

joejeffcock 2023-01-22 20:22

really fun game! the graphics and music really add to the mood. I also liked the risk/reward of straying too far from portals. it just so happened that we made a game about space gems and upgrades too haha! I think some of the spawn locations are more sparse than others which can lead to varied results, I think the game would be improved if this was more consistent :)
