This game is pretty well made! In only 3 days, they could set up the gameplay mechanics of the jump and the dash, make three types of enemies who feel different and unique from each other, a score system, a combo system, and two songs (and other polish here and there). The mechanics are very fun and the chess knight movement is very unique and it's interesting seeing how you'll be able to attack a foe with that movement. The timer also adds some chaos to the game, as sometimes you may run into an exploding barrel on accident (feels pretty in theme for the jam).

Enjoyed that game a lot! The controls feel responsive, the music is very cool, but most of all I LOVED the aesthetic, I wish I could do similar graphics with that short of an amount of time !

I would just have one thing to say to criticise it : I sometimes had troubles calculating the movements due to the fast-paced nature of the game.

Really awesome entry! The amount of polish is very impressive. It looks and feels great from the moment you enter the main menu. The gameplay is a lot of fun. The only complaint I have is that in some situations you can get hit by enemies you weren't able to predict after bashing in a random direction, which can feel a bit unfair. Other than that, it's pretty much the perfect entry! :thumbsup:

This game is OOZING with style. I love it. The hectic gameplay suits well and you've obviously poured a lot of effort into it.

I didn't know what I was doing for a couple of attempts, but I got the hang of it eventually and I don't think that's a bad thing.

Cool concept! I like the aesthetic and the music. It could maybe use a bit of retuning, it feels like it's pretty equally difficult throughout. I think it's too chaotic right out of the gate, it might feel a little better if it starts out pretty easy then the timer gets faster and there are more enemies as you last longer. In any case, there's a lot of polish on this for a 48 hour game. Nice work!

Really well made! I got better with practice and that made me want to keep on starting a new bout. The format of the game feels fair. I loved the chunkiness of the UI. Functional, yet lively, like in Persona 5.

lovely game! i really found the knight-move mechanic clever once i realized it. great art, there's so much charm. i really enjoy the gameplay loop too, being forced to look at your surroundings under time pressure. going for a full clear is quite hard! i think my only gripe is the view range, it's only slightly larger than the distance you dash to, which makes it quite likely you dash into a barrel or even just in range of a chicken if you jump in the direction of your dash. on the other hand, i understand having a small view distance for the sake of preventing a ton of enemies from moving (and therefore forcing you to wait longer)

the only bug i noticed is that you dont collect a coin when landing on an enemy that is on that spot.

other than that this is lovely entry, i enjoyed it a lot!

Nice game, the music really makes you feel tension and fast pace of the game. Also I find it clever how you made it so you are only able to move in the way of a knight in chess. Also its brilliant how you managed to combine turn based combat and action.

Super fun (and funny) game! Sort of like frantic chess with a crazy horse. I'm a big fan of integrating turn timers into the actual gameplay, there's so much enexplored design space there and this one strikes at the heart of it. Kudos!

This game is so polished, and fun! It's super impressive for a compo game. I especially like the aesthetic, very stylish. I just wish the explosions didn't take 3 health off your life, and that the visible area is so small. But those are just small details that add to the challenge.

Great work! I felt like a crazy horse to the theme "unstable" was definitely used :D I would maybe like to see keyboard controls, I wasted a lot of time just pointing were to go and then my time was out, but that is just a small thing!

It's hard to tell where the horse is allowed to move since the movement arrow is on an arc, but otherwise, pretty cool!

This game feels like it dives into almost unexplored ocean of potential new gameplay mechanics. It feels real-time and turn-based at the same time, and the situation is always unstable in a fresh way. So much content and so many ideas packed so densely.

At first you feel completely out of control, and the game just destroys you, and it seems like there's nothing you can really do. But then you start developing tactics, applying the knight rerouting skills from chess, positioning yourself in smart ways, using the environment. The first time you manage to kill an enemy with dash — the very thing that's supposed to be working against you — it feels *powerful*.

Maybe it would be good for the learning curve to greet players with weaker enemies at first to give them some time to adjust. But overall, this is already an endless treasury of possibilities. I really hope to see this project live on and develop into something much bigger!

Oh, and I can't get enough of those UI transitions. How are they so delicious? I'll just go click around some more.

I'm amazed at how well polished this is. The fast paced L movement was a lot of fun, but I might be biased since knights have always been my favorite chess piece. xD The only thing I'd say is that the chickens were crazy OP. Sometimes it felt like they could just be on the very edge of the screen, and walk right up to hit me. So I didn't feel like there was much I could do to avoid them. Amazing game.

What a mood, what an energy for a compo game, that's insane !

About the audio, You may be a bit harsh on yourself. Maybe one or two audioclips are a bit over the limit to pick from freesound, but stuff like animal sounds you are not supposed to go around the street trying to find chickens to record for you jam game anyway (I usually pick stuff from random asmr videos like "relaxing chicken sounds 40hours"). Maybe with one or two clips replaced by mouth-made sounds you were all good imo.

Such a cute and fun game! Really love the unique gameplay and artstyle. Good work on the feel of the game too with the little effects (like the horse bouncing animation, fences having that little animation when you hit them or their explosion effect, etc) - really adds a lot. Music is good and fits well too :)

@yorsh There's still about 25 sourced SFX in-all so the animal sounds wouldn't have made too much difference either way; I maaaybe could have found the time to do my own animal sounds, but in addition to being not very good I still wouldn't have been able to make all the rest 😅 SFX build is its own skill and one I'm very slow at!

Interesting combination of real time and turn based elements. Loved the art style and how the game doesn't take itself too seriously. Also really liked how the horse moved like a knight :)

This game is pretty funny. I loved looking at the visuals and I thought making the horse move like a chess horse was a pretty clever idea. Great entry.
