Pretty dang fun. You can fvck yourself over if you get the sword stuck in a palce you can't get to (like at the last fight) but besides that, really good. The sword feels *SO nice* and each of the enemies were interesting and it was fun to figure out the best way to defeat em. I dont know if its a bug but if you time your jump while holding the sword you can still jump a little bit it seems. It took me a lil bit to realize I had to kill every enemy to progress, so alittle bit of direction at the start wouldda been helpful but it was fine without, it's a jam game ahha. Also if your hearts were showing it would be ontop of the text so movin the text/hearts would be nice but again, nitpicky things. Overall the game was real fun with an interesting mechanic. 9/10

wooowww this game is so coooool, I love the graphics and the animation, the music is so chill, espacially the final sound who i listening now, because i finish the game yeahhh !! It's was fun because at the fisrt time i kill the spider but she kill me just after with a web, and i broke the game who crash haha. The game is not too short or too long, it's perfect. I love the diversity of ennemies that you had made. WELL DONE! (just how get the game in entire screen ? because i play just in a small window who can't expand).

bokonon 2021-04-28 02:29

The sword mechanic feels really great and is super fun to play around with. The sound effects are phenomenal.

As others have mentioned, it is super easy to softlock yourself by getting your sword stuck in an unreachable place. This happened to me in the spider fight, as well as somewhere else early on. Also, it was an interesting choice to allow the player to walk off the level just to die?

Regardless, this game was super fun and really rewarding. Awesome enemy design!

simpathey 2021-04-28 05:13

The mechanic was super smooth! Would love to see this as a full game! So much fun :)

mlho7 2021-04-28 05:13

This is a great entry, nice art and OST, cool ideas and mechanics, really well done, bravo.

secretpocketcat 2021-04-28 05:37

As has been mentioned, You can softlock yourself. I managed to softlock myself after the final boss, which kinda is a softlock bait tbh (so it was a bad ending I guess  ). I had the instict to try R, but you mention somewhere it restarts the current lvl. The music is great, the visuals could be more coherent - the grass tile just sticks out a lot and the sprite PPU doesn't match as visible in the screenshots.

Other than that the game is wonderful, especially mechanically - the throw and movement are just really satisfying.

ahspike 2021-04-28 05:43

Such cool art and gameplay! The charge build up feels really powerful! Great job.

alchemic 2021-04-28 18:23

This was pretty fun! I really like the whole bug aesthetic going on here. I fell off the map once, right before the wasp fight, and had to figure out that R resets the level. But other than that, it was a pretty smooth experience.

joedev 2021-04-29 18:24

Ridiculously fun and satisfying! I would 100% play a full game of this with this main mechanic. The visuals and sound FX were incredibly good feedback for the combat, and the main mechanic rewarded skill in a great way without punishing death too harshly. I love that you managed to squeeze two boss fights into it as well!

Great job all around

peachtreeoath 2021-04-30 00:37

Really fun game, you should get more eyeballs on this! The mechanic is quite awkward at first, but by the time you beat the game, you get good at catch the sword midair and utilizing your jump double cancels to basically continuously move. It feels great when you reach that point.

Yes bouncing the sword REALLY high gets it stuck, but I can't help but be entertained when I throw a sword from downtown and it actually lands on something. Or multiple things...

Again, this game really shines once you get good enough to bounce the sword and constantly catch it to continue your momentum. I wish there was more content and levels so that's a good thing. The game started to really spice it up in its boss battles. Awesome job.

wiredoverload 2021-04-30 05:38

Really loved this game and the different enemy types in there. The only thing I can complain about is the length of the game, I would have played three times the number of levels currently in, even if they had the same enemy types. The boss fights were great and clearly had thought and design put into them so I wish they felt more rewarding by spacing them out a little more. My favorite part of the game of catching the sword midair and going wild also felt unintentional, which is a shame because when you successfully pull it off it feels amazing. Amazing game overall.

flavienrombouts 2021-04-30 20:26

Wow ! Good job :D I am a mega fan of the gameplay, brilliant idea, well developed. It is really enjoyable and well dosed ! The art is really cool, the enemies varied, and the soundtrack diverse. It's a really well developed project and especially in the theme, I love it ! :P

Good job again <3

PS : I blocked my sword higher than my jump height during the fight against the blue caterpillar ^^

villanelle 2021-04-30 21:07

The core mechanic is fantastic, never seen anything like it. It's not easy but it's super fun. The art and sounds are top notch, the animations are flawless. The main character is not only beautifully designed pixel art but is also funny and charismatic. Different kinds of enemies, great tutorial... Well, I have nothing to complain about this game, just the fact that it ends :(

threeli 2021-05-01 00:34

This is really quite a lot of fun! My only complaint, and this is probably just me, is I wish there were an option for aiming sensitivity. I managed to work around it, but initially it was really impossible to aim the throw because the aiming reticle whips back and forth so quickly. I really like the visuals and how much worldbuilding they bring to the table.

Anyway, brilliant idea and execution.

brusi 2021-05-01 05:07

Cool art and mechanics! Got a hold of it pretty fast. Enemies are interesting and challenging. I could not get past the jumping and rolling maggot, it did not take any damage neither in "rolled" form nor in it's idle form.

baturinsky 2021-05-01 05:56

Very good, but it's abit annoying that you can't move at all with the tooth. I understand that it's kinda the point, but even a very slow moving with tooth could help when you want to do a little repositioning.

steelax 2021-05-01 16:55

i think this is up there as one of my fave games. the mechanics were both unique and fun. And the large bug/Boss mechanics were on par with mario and crash bandicoot style bosses. do something to expose weaknesss etc

jitspoe 2021-05-02 02:26

I really like the concept. I don't think it's intended, but I actually found it pretty fun to jump around and catch the sword in the air so I could keep moving with it. I feel like I may hold the record for number of times unintentionally tossing the sword just barely above the spider's head. If you're thinking of pushing this beyond a game jam game, there are a few things I think would be good to address: - Too easy to clip the edge of cliffs and stuff (hitbox is very large). You could use different sized hitboxes for world collision vs enemy collision. - Possible to throw the sword out of the playable space you can reach. Might be good to have rock surfaces that it can't stick into -- especially in the boss arenas -- so it can't stick to areas out of reach. - Spend more time polishing the art. Motion of the character and stuff looks good, just a bit sketchy. Also a bit of inconsistency in pixelart resolution.

euler-moises 2021-05-02 03:29

I imagine this game with many more levels and many more challenges. Virtually a complete miniature game. Beautiful art and nice music. The mechanics are very interesting and the story completes the game in a cute way. I had difficulty in the beginning when the dog was able to walk with the sword in his hand, but it just got used to me that everything went well. For me, the strong point is art.

Congratulations to the team.

2bitcrook 2021-05-02 19:44

Stunning game with a whole host of bugs! (But good ones!)

Absolutely love the mechanic your team came up with, it's extremely intuitive, makes sense and the feeling of WEIGHT it has is just so good. Love the pixel art and bug characters too, not enough bugs are the main characters of games!

When I started playing I literally said "I hope this ends in a boss fight" and end in a boss fight it did. A small crit is upon retrying a boss I'd have enjoyed it if it skipped the initial dialogue or was able to skip but that's a very minor thing.

I can really see this being fleshed out to have more levels or even as a metroidvania. The latter of which might mean you could run with the sword which would change the design space a bit. I would probably compare it to something akin to Yoshis Island on SNES, where you can stop and shoot eggs and aim, but also run and shoot. Might not be the kind of game you envisioned though and it's not a criticism of the game, more so just throwing ideas out there that I'd do haha.

Overall a really solid game that has such a unique and fun mechanic and a cute buggy world (again, the good kind ;D).

Great entry!

felo07 2021-05-03 23:44

AMAZING GAME! I loved the art, the sounds, the musics. The mechaninc is unique, I absolutely loved it. I would buy for sure, please continue with the game, and send me the steam page. I will wishlist! Awesome game, congrats for all the work.

adamcyounis 2021-05-04 07:24

Whoa boy, this game was so good! I really love that you managed to get a whole experience in there, with progression of enemies into a boss fight. Super impressive for a jam game! I thought the music was SUPER groovy, and enjoyed the animation quite a bit, as well as the little cut-scenes. The game was really clear for the most part about how to play, though I did find it a bit confusing as to when I could and couldn't jump on enemies.

Thanks for the entry, I had fun!

pancelor 2021-05-04 20:09

WOW this is polished. the backgrounds and music and all the sprites (the main character is buff as hell aww yeahhh), and the few frames of movement leeway after you pick up the sword were all really excellent.

Making the weapon to fall to the ground if stuck in a wall or ceiling would have been nice, especially at that one part ;)

it was really fun to learn to use the big ole sword! I get the feeling that you can move it without it ever hitting the ground, or possibly use it to fly, but I didn't get _quite_ good enough to check.

One of the best games I've played here... a little confusing was that I had to jump on some enemies and not on others. But otherwise amazing gameplay, great graphics and music and I believe that a well-managed team (we are usually two of us and we still sometimes have trouble coordinating). Just a great jam entry. I rate it very positively.

wilsk 2021-05-05 11:45

Nice work, really polished and an very interesting combat mechanic with varied enemies. Maybe its just me but HTML5 audio is always so loud I have to take my headphones off.

ismael-rodriguez 2021-05-06 12:56

Very cool entry! I had been seeing this pop up in some videos and streams but still didn't know what I was getting into.

The mechanics are fun and feel good. There's a good variety of enemies to beat up that are introduced over time at a pace that keep things interesting. There was a couple times where my sword got stuck somewhere I couldn't reach (and was screwed). I wonder if yall considered a magic-return-my-sword ability lol It may be kind of cool to throw your sword past and enemy, then tell it to return and stab them in the back! *(that may make things a lil too easy)*

The music is great, lots of variety, and each feel appropriate. The sounds also feel good.

Visually the game looks good, very cute style, but I'm a little thrown off by the bigger pixel'd backgrounds, even though their art is very nice! I wonder how'd they'd look with blur for a deeper depth-of-field look? (may throw off overall crispiness of visuals)

I love how the game ends in a boss fight, very nice touch! Throwing the sword at the web to free your friend was also a nice way to wrap it all up!

Good job everyone!

secretjuice 2021-05-10 03:09

There's so much to love here. The feel of the game is completely on point, and the tooth throwing mechanic is just so good. The bosses are tough but not at all impossible, and the art and sound is wonderful.

Of course, as others have pointed out (and as I experienced on stream), soft-locks are easy to come by if you throw your tooth too high. Some others have made some good sounding suggestions to fix that, and I agree with them.

Ultimately though, some great work from your team!

pijamar 2021-05-11 05:01

Fun, innovative and ultra polished.

The gameplay mechanic is not only very creative, but masterfully executed. The level / enemy design is on-point, offering the perfect balance between challenging and accessible. For me, that level of savory frustration when you find out *exactly* what you need to do to beat an enemy, but still have to go through the motions, is the purest essence of puzzle action games.

I don't believe I have any criticism in particular. There *are* a few quirks as others pointed out, such as the "sword soft-lock" and hitboxes being a bit off sometimes, but hey, this is a jam game, these are to be expected. This is a stellar achievement.

I'm eager to see where you take the game post-jam as there is an absurd amount of potential here. Excellent job, congratulations :trophy:

The sword toss mechanic was so well implemented that I found myself playing with tossing the sword around without any enemies for awhile just to learn how the different strengths work and to get used to the tossing. Liked the movement animation on it and made it so that it was a fun thing to do each time. Did find the flying enemies a bit hard at first until I got used to their movement but once I got a combo of it bouncing up and down on them I was impressed at how well it all worked. The art and music also worked great with the story and liked how it all came together in a polished experience.

[Thanks for submitting your game to our stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1023138450?t=01h40m55s)

Absolutely top-notch work with this one. Everything, from the music, to the visuals, to the concept were excellent.

Also, here's a completely unrelated picture of my suffering:
