This gameplay is really solid. Nice mechanics and exploration of the theme. Jam-perfect i'd say.

fax 2020-10-05 20:57

@albuquerque Thank you for your reply. I'm happy you enjoy it.

tad 2020-10-06 06:39

This is so slick - I love it. Great concept with great execution. Excellent work! :)

fax 2020-10-06 07:19

@tad Thank for test it. I'm glad you love it ;).

bredera 2020-10-06 07:34

Great execution of the theme, love the platforming and the art looks really cool. great job!

fax 2020-10-06 07:38

@bredera Thank you for the reply ! I'm not a graphic artist, proud you find it looks cool.

oxalotte 2020-10-06 07:43

yellowsalamander 2020-10-06 07:49

I really like the vaporwave aesthetic of the game and the gameplay is unique! A cool puzzle game :3

kromeboy 2020-10-06 08:42

The jump mechanic is really solid

fax 2020-10-06 10:47

@yellowsalamander Thanks for reply ! I'm enjoy that you love the aesthetics. I'm not a graphic artist, i'm proud you love it.

@kromeboy Thanks ! Yes, i try to make jump mechanics as fun as possible.

katreenashy 2020-10-07 08:05

The graphics and the audio fit correctly. The idea is great. I like the game.

rancune 2020-10-07 09:04

Bravo !

fax 2020-10-07 09:07

@katreenashy Thanks a lot for the reply. I'm proud you like the game.

maxime-barre 2020-10-07 09:32

I am a simple man: I see synthwave aesthetics, I like. The gravity system immediately reminded me of the puzzles in Portal, where the use of velocity was a huge piece of the gameplay! On the other hand, I don't know if the mini-map is necessary, I think that we find our way very well in the levels without it (but I quibble)

shyrro 2020-10-07 09:32

I really like the game. Feels good and very enjoyable to play.

The only feedback that i can give is that i don't think it fits the theme of "Stuck in a loop".

But overall really great game theme aside, you can even make it a phone game and it could have great success i think ! Well done !

thunderkerrigan 2020-10-07 09:50

fax 2020-10-07 10:09

@maxime-barre You right for the minimap. It is useless but it give some futuristic thing to the game. I create it at start of the jam and i don't want to destroy it after. Thank for your reply and for testing the game ;).

@shyrro If you play the level 5, you have to loop at least 2 or 3 times for end it. But i agree that you only stuck in the loop while you don't find the keys and doors. ;). Thank you for the feedback anyway.

fax 2020-10-07 10:12

cosmicpickle 2020-10-07 10:14

This was such a fun game. The controls were snappy. The vaporware graphics were so nice. The music was relaxing and in a strange way matched perfectly (even with the frantic last level). The levels were designed awesomely. I played all of it and wanted more. One thing I couldn't figure out, because I missed the hint is when can you destroy the enemies. I thought it was jumping on them, but sometimes it worked, most of the times it didn't. I figured I must have missed something. Anyway, great game, with a few visual touch ups like particles, post-processing and a few more levels, this has a potential to be a great full game. (Though I gotta say it feels complete as it is now)

pradhuman 2020-10-07 10:49

Best Game

I don't know why it has low ratings

fax 2020-10-07 10:54

@cosmicpickle Thanks for the feedback. Yes the ennemies can be killed by jumping on, may you experiment some bug by jumping on and die ! That's not the expected behaviour. I don't have enough time to make more levels. The way i design them cost me too much time. I can't use post processing in the motor i use, but yeah, many more particles were fun to see, but, i design the game for mobile device too. Don't want the game begin laggy.

fax 2020-10-07 10:56

@pradhuman Thanks for the message ! If you love it, don't wait and share it to all your friends ^^. It works on mobile too, no excuse to don't play it. Rating is not all, i prefer a message like yours than 10.000 rating on my game ;).

cursedsoldier 2020-10-07 12:00

This game feels so good to play, well done! I am amazed at how much you did in such a short time span. I really enjoyed that level where you were chased by the lasers and had to think on the spot but each level had its own identity which is something I really like. Well done!

fax 2020-10-07 12:29

@cursedsoldier Thank you for the feedback. Sometimes, i do "trijam", game jam in 3 hours. It's a good exercice to train skills. After that, a game jam in 3 Days look like holidays ^^. The 5th level is designed to be a "Boss Level". I'm happy you enjoy my game.

cursedsoldier 2020-10-07 13:00

@fax 3 hour game jam?! That is crazy, exporting and making the game page takes like 1h for me.

fax 2020-10-07 13:43

@cursedsoldier Yeah that's a real challenge. The export, game page and the reflexion time before don't count in the total time. Only the time for creating assets and code.

cursedsoldier 2020-10-07 13:52

@Fax still impressive though! You must be a pro by now!

fax 2020-10-07 14:00

@cursedsoldier I need to be a pro but i'm still an amator. Try out this 3H jam. Great exercice, like LudumDare, excellent exercice too.

cursedsoldier 2020-10-07 16:32

@fax might have a go at it after I rest from this jam! Is it on itch.io?

ryzy27 2020-10-07 16:42

Awesome and well polished game!

Last level took me a few tries, but I have finally made it.

Controls are nice, which is not easy to do for a platformer, well done there.

Keep it up!

kate90 2020-10-07 16:46

Well, more maps and off you go for mobile release I would say :)

fax 2020-10-07 18:21

@ryzy27 Thanks a lot for your feedback. Last level is design to be replay few times it's ok ^^. I try to made controls as simple as possible, glad you enjoy it.

@kate90 Yeah it's a possibility for the future ;). Thanks for testing the game.

kaldrin 2020-10-07 18:57

Lack of juice and the character doesn't have full speed right at the start of the movement which I find not very ergonomic But damn this is good stuff ! I really like how the levels loop on themselves and how it makes a lot of sense with the ribbon mechanic and the doors. I loved the last level, nice job, and the music is cool, plus I like the grid effect !

kaldrin 2020-10-07 19:01

fax 2020-10-07 21:12

@kaldrin Hey thanks to the feedback. Yes the character got a little acceleration before full speed. I found it fit better but i agree, it's less reactive.

kaldrin 2020-10-07 21:32

@fax You're welcome ! And I'd say in the end it's more a matter of preference, it's not a bad thing to be this way^^

kolkav 2020-10-08 06:11

Wow, thanks for the very thought-through UI in this. It was very helpful. The visual style is pretty sleek, but let me just crack open a cold one for these sound effects ;) Really good entry overall

fax 2020-10-08 06:38

@kolkav Yeah, as i mentionned just before, the UI is very light and some people find it useless, but, it contribute to the global aesthetics. Sounds are made by myself and, well, i'm not sound designer at all and we can ear it ^^ ! Thanks for the message ;).

nekusoul 2020-10-09 11:49

Nice aesthetics and some pretty interesting and challenging level design.

p-r 2020-10-09 17:04

The effect you've created with the parallax and the physics felt great

fax 2020-10-09 17:50

@nekusoul Thanks a lot for the feedback.

@p-r Thank you. Yeah i try to do something interesting to see and to play.

mahalis 2020-10-10 17:34

Wow, this is brilliant! Really innovative gameplay and terrific puzzle design. Great visuals, and the music’s good too. I gave up on the level with the green/yellow/purple keys when I had all three and died to one of the zapper things; some kind of checkpoint system would make that less frustrating. Still, though, incredible work; this is one of the best platformers I’ve seen in LD.

hgcummings 2020-10-10 17:55

Brilliant game. A really innovative mechanic and excellent use of it in the varied level design. The last level was positively fiendish. The combination of puzzle and dexterity skills is excellent.

Would love to see this game developed further with more levels.

I think it would also be worth improving the feel of the controls and/or the feedback of the mechanics to the player. Hitboxes were extremely unforgiving and it was also quite easy to miss a jump without really understanding why. A bit of leeway in the controls would improve the feel a lot. Or if you do want to make it challenging by requiring precision, make it really clear to the player what they need to do. I couldn't tell tell why some jumps worked and others didn't. I also only once (by accident) killed one of the moving squares by jumping on it. Every other time I tried, I just died and I'm not sure why. I ended up just avoiding them.

Only giving so much feedback because I think it's an excellent game. Getting challenging precision game mechanics to feel good to the player takes a lot of time, and I think you did a great job for the time you had.

fax 2020-10-12 08:27

@mahalis Thanks a lot for the message. In my opinion, if you fail at a level and got a checkpoint, you just escape the loop at a point for enter at a new...like you destroy the loop ;). This level is hardest than previous it's ok if you already got the 3 keys ! Enjoy you like it.

fax 2020-10-12 08:33

@hgcummings Thank you for the feedback. I may don't continue the development of The Ribbon cause this one is not really original but...for a game jam i'm really proud of the results. You're not the only one who be killed by jumping on ennemies, a bug is obvious at this point. I'm sorry for that. Your idea to give more feedback is right. I could have show by any way, the actual jump strength of the player in order to understand better how the jump mechanic works. I keep it in mind for a next game jam ;). Again thanks a lot for the message you give.

100th-coin 2020-10-14 20:37

Woah I love the gravity flipping! Really cool ideas with this one! The moving hazard in the last level was super cool because it dictated t eh pace you move through the stage with! Awesome work all around!

(also I heavily considered naming *my* game "The Ribbon" but chose to omit the word "the" and leave it as a single word title. seeing how similar our game's titles were, I just *had* to try yours! Great job!)

fax 2020-10-15 07:28

@100th-coin Hey thanks for testing the game ;). Yeah the last level is designed to dictate where the player have to be. And also force him to swap side to end the level. I go try your game ^^.

satolas 2020-10-20 14:50

Loved that game ! Ultra polished : Music is great, fx sounds as well. The character could (for an extend version) get a bit more love. It could be a cyborg child or something. As soon as I saw the Synth wave mood/graphics style you got me ahah I loved the sound when going from one dimension (side) to the other. Nice that the level was looping this I never saw to be honest. It's very interesting because the flow never stops, you always go further. And there is no dead-end. To add maybe : Sounds for the electricity beams tweak a bit the controls because with controller is not "tight enough". For example killing the "danger" is sometimes a bit random, here a video about celeste controls : www.youtube.com/watch?v=yorTG9at90g

Thanks mate :-) 2SRiJaZ6Ew.png

satolas 2020-10-20 14:54

PS : I played with theses Keycaps XD and then for the boss with controller ff213f3bfb204176206a69c9af427e3f.png

fax 2020-10-21 13:41

@satolas Hey. Thanks for playing and for the comment. Your keyboard looks like perfect for my game XD. I'm happy you love it. For the character i ask myself for some robot yeah, but during the jam i got too many other things to do. This was not a priority. All sounds (except the open door) was realized by my mouth ;). That's why they sounds sometimes a little weird. Have a nice day !
