So I only own a 2010 latop and Unreal Engine destroys the builtin APU (AMD). But! I was able to still load and play a bit (walk around and jump and view the game).

Highlights: Great Graphics! Working Unreal Engine Game! (Impressive, haha) Mood is fantastic. Fullscreen and the shaking camera is perfect

Marginal: Humor: mood is too strong so if there is any humor, it's getting overpowered. Execution-Speed: Well, you are definetly leaving out a good chunk of people by using unreal, so that affects my fun rating. What Audio I did hear was minimal, though that may have been a function of execution speed.

Summary: Overall great entry, just leaves us cheap-o laptop users in the dust :/

The bunny is really cute and the idea overall is good, although was kind of har to figure out what to do.

khaotom 2020-04-21 03:44

Very nice looking game. I think it could be fun, but I think it might be broken though. I was operating on a soldier. The instruction told me to press some weird key that i cant recognize. Then the soldier disappeared and i was stuck staring at the bed.

I explored the world a bit and that was really scary. I managed to pull a soldier back to the tent. And that seemed to work one time, but then I couldn't save any more. They all just disappeared when I made it back to the tent.

I'm super impressed with what you guys managed to create here! I'd agree about the comment above regarding the font, but it was pretty easy to guess that they key was 'D'.

Though I have to say, my immersion was broken by the curvature of this imaginary world. If anything it has solidified my conviction that we live on a plane.

coolguy6316 2020-04-21 08:53

Love the game Dan! Great art, fun gameplay and i really enjoyed watching you do it live :D

lex 2020-04-22 11:32

Great game guys! I loved the message at the end.

honest-dan 2020-04-22 12:07

@lex glad to hear you got to the end and liked the winning message.

@topbraj it was just a game, don't worry. #teamflatearth

@homunculusgames and @khaotom thanks for your feedback - the version you played was the last stable build we had before the deadline, which lacked UI hookup to give the tutorial messages along with scoring / time passing. Feel free to try it again now for a better experience. We tweaked the dont for the prompts too so no one else got confused.

@exevirus thanks for trying the game - good feedback on the whole. Regarding the "fun" rating, if you didn't find it fun because of the game mechanic / difficulty / controls - then that is fair. I feel rating us lower on fun because we are using a mainstream game engine (UE4) is a bit of a tough call though. Game jam is about making a game and learning. We want people to play it, but I'm not gonna avoid using Unreal incase some people have a 10 year old PC. I did make a "lets play" video of the game for those who can't play it and want to see what we made. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoNxETWZbyI

Pretty impressive for a jam entry... graphics are nice and it's a cute game overall. Pretty harsh ending, considering I'm all race-blind and that! ;) I'm not sure if you intended it, but the game kept trying to run on my Oculus headset... in fact it _did_ eventually. It worked ok, but the I don't think the controls were really set up for that, and the HUD is just out of view in VR mode. Purdy though. I had fun with it, though the core loop gets repetative pretty quickly.

What a cool game! :D I love quicktime events and combining it with finding the wounded soldiers was interesting :) the art and the shading done inside of the eingin were beautiful, the dialogues were funny and you even added cinematics! wow!!

javasaurus 2020-04-22 18:48

Per usual, the entries by @brainoid and @honest-dan 's team amazed me. This game is so much fun ! I really like it and it's a really unique take on the theme. Maybe you should investigate the option to make this a full fledged game ! Well done, graphics are amazing, audio is on point, thank you for making this !

Wow, not many Ludum Dare games feature an opening/game over cut scene! I love the diegetic instructions (the poster). The graphics are very good. Kind of reminds me of Psychonauts a little. When the patients start dying it's honestly a little bit creepy/unsettling. It definitely feels frantic. Also, it's not often you play someone neutral in a war. It's nice to have a kinder approach to a game set in a war, just making it about saving lives instead of taking lives is nice. I think in stream you mentioned this was your first jam using Unreal? Awesome work.

cheesepencil 2020-04-24 03:01

The overwhelming motion blur really sells the wartime mood! Great ideas here, and a very cool, if a little jarring, art style.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-24 17:03

It's a very good 3D game for a jam with pretty firm systems. Nice work Dan!

ulisses 2020-04-24 19:00

Well done! I love how you implement the theme. The art is solid, and all the systems work very well! Congrats!

bitpokit 2020-04-24 20:07

Oh no I'm a "piece of carrot!" What an amazing entry! I love the way the bunny walks! The controls are fun, and the cutscenes blew me away! Definitely one of my favorite entries! :smile_cat:

Really cool game! Great work with the 3D modelling and art in general. Love the intro cinematics! I also really liked the whole idea behind the game, being a medic in war trying to save people. And the mini games were a great addition!

One small issue was that the days didn't really... matter? I mean, since the number of saved bodies carried over to the next day. Would be cool if there was a bar with something like "War status" instead, representing how the war was going? Like, the more soldiers you heal, the better the war goes for your side, and if it goes all the way down you capitulate. That could also make it possible for a win condition if that's something you'd want.

Also, it wasn't clear to me at first that I could carry multiple bodies. I think that could have been explained in a simple tutorial text box? EDIT: Apparently it says in the description that you can carry multiple bodies... My bad! Still feel like it could have been explained in the game though! :P

Either way, really cool entry :) Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next time!

I like this game quite a bit! The art style and premise is both goofy and charming, and I experienced nary a hiccup bug-wise while playing, which is no small feat.

I liked the dynamic between braving the battlefield vs. being in the medic tent, and the changing music did a great job selling that transition. I also loved the cutscene at the beginning. I wish I could do a bunch of crazy camera motions like that, haha.

I do think that the systems in place could do with a little tightening up. I learned pretty quickly that it was basically impossible to treat 4+ patients at once, because their life meters would deplete so fast I would only be able to save 2 of them before being able to bring one back from critical. The days seem to progress fairly quickly as well, although I got better at managing my time the more I played, so maybe that's not that big of an issue.

Regardless of all of that, though, it is _extremely_ impressive what y'all have been able to crank out in a weekend! The perfect trifecta of functional, fun, and unique!

corbak 2020-05-12 10:08

Very nice and polished game, it's a bit stressful because it seems that there is a thin line on how many you could save and that the general is not pleased. Maybe i didn't go as fast as i could, i tried to stop and save as much as I can on my war bed. The looks of the characters, the subtil sounds makes it quite funy at some part, like the bombe falling on you. I saw myself romaing the battlefield in search of wounded and when I found some, a bomb just come to make them disappear, there is a little time frame between them collapsing to the ground and being killed afterwards, it resulted in losing time very quickly unfortunately, maybe make that a bit longer? It's a great entry and I love the grass texture :) yep well done

whim 2020-05-12 12:35

Really cool ! I like the characters design, they're really fun, and it's also really nice to switch between the battlefield and the infirmary. The idea is really great it's one of my favs ! Congrats !

abdulla-shuhair 2020-05-12 14:16

Cool character designing... Nicely done....

stu 2020-05-12 16:07

Impressively polished given the timeframe! Love the art direction and mood. Straight forward take on the theme but I still didn't play any other game like this. Great execution!

macdoom 2020-05-12 18:08

Awesome game! Feels finished. Tookj a couple of runs to realize the injured patients were being made at the background. I appretiated that it can be played with one hand and the operating commands were with WASD combinations. Awesome graphics and loled when got bombed for being a piece of carrot. 5/5!! Had a blast playing it <3

melomel 2020-05-12 19:47

I am a failure as a bunnurse, but still had fun!

dkviplounge 2020-05-12 20:47

Nice graphics and characters. Not sure what's up with spasmic camera movement in opening cutscene, but impressive that you even have intro cutscene. I like the concept very much - saving soldiers lives. First round of the game is very unforgiving - could've used some slack to get my bearings. Cool game over screen.
