This is pretty slick! I'm determined to beat it now. How many levels are there?
@mitch-cutler , there are 18 levels.
Some of the levels were pretty annoying in design but otherwise the game plays well and looks nice!
The theme is good: it well reflects the "Sacrifice must be made". However, the controlling of the character needs to be adjusted more. Other than that, the game is fun.
This game is fun, and I liked it! The game also really matched the theme.
Fits the theme well! Has decent platforming and some frustrating levels. Just a heads up, I would opt-out of the audio portion of voting if you didn't make the sounds yourself(it even asks you to do that when you submit.) Nice entry overall though!
@cdunham Thank you for your suggestion with audio. Somehow I missed this part while submitting, I also had a doubt earlier, should I get rated if the sounds aren't mine, but processed by me. I decided if it's a problem I just turn off rating of audio layer. Thanks!
great concept but i gave up after one of the later levels because of a how the body's hitbox kept hitting a spike. great job!
Decent self-sacrifice platformer! The controls work well and the game looks quite good. Wilhelm scream is also always nice, although it could get annoying in some levels :) I stopped in one particularly frustrating level towards the end of the game, but had fun until then. Would've wished for some narrative and a little more creative level design. Good job overall!
Looked really nice, animations were very simple, but the overall art style worked well together. Mechanics closely tied in to the theme, it would have been nice to see different variations of the death mechanic working into different elements for the puzzles (maybe using a corpse to block a door for example). I did end up getting stuck on a level when I covered a wall in corpses and wasn't able to jump up it anymore. Solid entry.
I wish I could remove extra corpses somehow without restarting :D
Nice entry!
Good twist on a theme, solid level design and overall rather fun.
Love your take on the theme, it was fun and actually quite tricky. The Wilhelm scream made me smile, and I enjoyed playing through it. Great job.
Really fun game! The audio and art direction are excellent, and the theme is prominent. Well done! However, there were a few frustrating levels with the way the spikes were set up, especially when you decided to implement arrow keys instead of WASD... Here's an example where I had restarted the level numerous times as I couldn't hit the spike in a certain way Annotation 2018-12-26 133745.jpg
Loved the Wilhelm scream tho :D
Some of the levels demand a very precise way of placing the corpses that could benefit from some "corpse moving" mechanic.
This seems to be a very popular interpretation of the theme (my very first idea, in fact, had a similar mechanic).
Moody! Rain is very effective at creating an atmosphere while the Wilhelm scream is very effective at destroying the atmosphere! Luckily it only happens when falling to a bottomless pit.
Seen this mechanic before. It was an online "co-op" challenge where everyone progressed by trampling on collective cadavers. Forgotten the name though...
Fits the theme on the surface level, but is death a sacrifice if you are not penalized for it and even required to die to progress? I'd say no.
Furthermore a sacrifice should have an element of risk attached to it. Giving away something valuable to have a chance for a greater benefit. I thought about these things after the jam, so I didn't get it right in my entry either!
Some of the levels are quite annoying to complete. Finally I stumbled upon this one where death was final. UC.png It got stuck, that is.
The visuals are fine and they do add to the mood. The Controls are floaty. There are a lot of platformers to learn from when it comes to tight controls, something like... Spelunky? (I don't play platformers very often)
Functional, not very exciting. Polish and a few fresh mechanics would do.
Overall: *Average (3.0)* Fun: *Bad (2.0)* Innovation: *Bad (2.0)* Theme: *Bad (2.0)* Graphics: *Above average (3.5)* Audio: *N/A* Humor: *N/A* Mood: *Good (4.0)*
The controls don't feel as "tight" as they could be. The Wilhelm scream started to get annoying after a while. Overall a nice game.
Positives - Rain and dark atmosphere is stunning - When that guy fell and made that noise, that was hilarious - Great difficulty transitioning - Game is fun to play and not too repetitive - Decent texture usage - Nice blood effect of recent corpse - Good to mix it up with guns
Improvements - Would like to know which level I'm on - Rain audio could last longer or loop better - Could be some aesthetic lightning effects. Maybe even could blind the player partially or kill him - Game froze on me when I got shot, at corpse count 109 in a mixed level
Overall - This game contains an illustration of dark humour accompanying sacrifice. You have made it quite "realistic" in that regard. The mood is heightened by the blood going out of the corpse and this makes it engaging. Put that together with the rain and it has great aesthetic. - I think it is fun and not too repetitive, although it did seem a bit monotonous sometimes when I died too much - but that's the fun of it, in a way. - I think the texture could be a little varied but it was pretty good.
Well done and keep it up! :D
Great concept here. Nice atmosphere and mood and interpretation of the theme. My main issue was with the colliders - it became increasingly frustrating to position the corpses effectively, or I would die unfairly. I was probably just bad at the game though  Great job!
Oh my god. The last level was insanely difficult! It took me about 45 minutes and over 700 deaths, but I managed to finally beat your game! And I gotta say, I had loads of fun doing it. It's very thematic, original and just fun! Interestingly enough, I had basically the opposite experience that @huvaakoodia had. Everything they thought were bad, I thought were great! Maybe I'm just easy to satistfy when it comes to challenging platformers, but I think you have done an amazing job with this game :) Well done!
The mood in this game is pretty good and the execution is pretty neat overall.
I don't know if leaving a corpse really is that big of a sacrifice for the player (the poor guy dying will probably disagree), because there isn't a trade off when someone dies.
The collision detection was a little bit unforgiving when jumping from the edges (I just fell down, even though I think I should have jumped).
I like dark and depressing stuff, so in that sense this is right up my ally, though. Great effort! Hope you had fun making it.
Hey, nice entry, fun idea. Those side spike colliders were pretty harsh though and it was often very difficult to spike the soldier where you needed it.
Sorry I got here late! I lied the concept and the approach. It was fun to plan how to die at some levels. Some were pretty hard at early stages tho. Good work! Useful Corpses.jpg
