"I don't feel so good"

- Graphics are good - not quite sure were the theme fits in... but maybe I just didn't get far enough - creepy mood

Tight controls and nice graphics, 1-hit death by saws was a bit ruthless though! Quite hard to grab all of the presents... I like nice creepy Christmas atmosphere going on. Congrats on the entry!

Nice setting and creepy intro. Awesome animations and lantern lighting! Was difficult without any weapons, just trying to roll as much as possible and avoid everything. Couldn't really avoid the lasers. What did the snowman with glasses say? I did find a candycane when one of the monsters fell into a saw, was that a powerup? I liked that you could make progress and respawn at later points, but the continual loss of 3 presents when I died was discouraging. I made it to the tunnel of spinning death saws.

What a nice, creepy game :D

I love the atmosphere details (intro scene, parallax background, falling snow, props, flickering lights) and how you can trick monsters into running into a trap (:

What was this made with?

If it's Unity, you could enable "prewarm" on particle effects to start with snow already falling.

I found the checkpoint mechanic very useful, although a couple times I killed myself before realizing where I was because the camera restarted from the beginning.

Because the lore is so nicely developed at the start, I'd consider giving some breathing room between challenges and adding bits of story during quiet sections (like finding a drawing or piece of cloth, something to set the mood).

Overall, really well done!

nice ending. thought it was gonna do a twist in the end though.

cannedtuna 2018-12-04 22:55

Nice game, I liked the creepy style and the animations were really smooth. The checkpoint system was also very convenient because I died on those saws so many times. I kind of wish there were a couple more enemies in the level because I never really felt like they were going to kill me.

Really good narrative! Music, art, sounds and story combine very well, and gameplay is challenging. Well done.

budark 2018-12-05 01:11

Good graphics!! and music really nice

keldy 2018-12-05 01:23

Like so much of the atmosphere! Grats on this one!

kambing 2018-12-05 01:24

Good - Definitely one of the better storyline and narrative games i've seen on here - Love the coherence of mood and music - Absolutely love the checkpoint system (would have quit the game early otherwise)

Could be improved - Too much text in the cutscenes (if you want to read it, don't write it) - Its hard to tell where you can stand in the snow (confusing layers)

Good game!! I liked the graphics, sound and mood!! Great job!

I don't think I'll be looking at Christmas the same way again for a while. That was definitely a chilling experience, and the introduction really set up one terrifying mood that I started wondering if it wasn't a bit for me, Capitan Scared-pants. The overall presentation was really top notch, from the graphics with terrifying Christmas-monsters designs and the overall eerie mother-is-missing atmosphere. Controller support is also appreciated.

If anything, I found the game to be just a bit to unforgiving at first until I was able to get a proper hand of how I was supposed to kill the monsters and use the dash properly. Other than that, I didn't really find any other glaring gameplay issues or the like.

Other than that the small phrases of _"I don't feel so good."_ and _"Coding your games is easier thank you think."_ lifted out the heavy mood a bit and put me a small smirk on the face. Even so, I find it a bit hard to rate the game in terms of humour properly.

For me, the real star of this game is really the mood. It's perfect, made me consider how scared I would have been as a kid if I was in the same situation. In behalf of [our team](https://twitter.com/whalesandgames), congratulations on your entry, and I really hope our Christmas isn't as monster filled as Tim's. :christmas_tree::whale:

Wow, this is really a stunner! The graphics and audio fit perfectly with the spooky vibe, and the enemy designs were spot-on. One thing is this: where's the theme? I didn't exactly see anything obvious in my brief play-through, could you enlighten me? Other than that, it was a really nice game, and I like the Construct2 representation! Congratulations all!

subtlydramatic 2018-12-05 03:28

LOVE LOVE LOVE the graphics, and I'm excited to see the use of Construct 2!! I've been starting to learn the program, so it's exciting to see what can be done with it! Though, I don't see the theme in this game, it's super fun!

ropedog 2018-12-05 03:54

This game really sets the tone from the beginning, and the overall mood is very dark as a result. The graphics and music were excellent, and I enjoyed the story. My only notes would be that the narrator was mixed a little lower than the music, so he was a little hard to hear. I also didn't see the theme well represented. Otherwise this was a great entry. Nice job!

The intro sucked me right in great mood setting. Love the super creepy enemies too nice work!

adventureislands 2018-12-05 04:25

Spooky game with a cool atmosphere. Great graphics and controls. The ending was surprisingly cute, I was excepting some kind of dark twist. I'm not sure what the game had to do with the sacrificing theme, but it's a good game.

nisepandakun 2018-12-05 09:55

Great setting and mood. Controls were a little awkward but overall quite nice. love the art style too.

bit 2018-12-05 12:29

Really liked the monsters. Good fun.

tgiant 2018-12-05 19:01

Good game. The only thing that felt wrong was maybe the players animation vs the speed he it moving at. It did not feel correct. I think if it were any other enemy in the game one would not have noticed it but because it is the player in front of you that whole time one notice.

vimlark 2018-12-06 07:42

Awesome job. Tight controls and the dodge rolling felt good. The look ahead camera is a bit jarring when turning around but not much of an issue. Love the art style and character animations.

arvejeitor 2018-12-06 13:07

Very good mood! and the monsters are well made

zombie-virals 2018-12-06 18:14

@vimlark Thanks for the feedback! I started to tune that to be less jarring in the beginning, but I got so caught up with everything else, lol, you know how it is. I will take note of that, because I do believe a good look a head is essential for the types of action platformers I make, but fine tuning them is the kicker.

rplnt 2018-12-11 22:26

How does the game end? I got to a guy(?) next to a tree and couldn't move further. Is there something more?

As others have said, very nice graphics and great controls.

budaniel 2018-12-20 21:25

I love it when a game includes controller support; it seems like such a small thing sometimes, but - especially in genres like platformers - it makes such a big difference as far as playability. The roll move felt a little laggy, but consistently so, which allowed me to still time it well.

My favorite part, no question, is the check point system. Not having to start all the way back at the start after making some progress was a huge plus. I would, however, recommend locking playing movement until the camera catches up, because I died once before even seeing my character because I blindly walked into a saw blade.

Speaking of the saw blades; they - along with the quick respawns and challenging jumps - had me nicknaming this, while playing, "Super Meat Boy: Santa's Story." lol

derek-volker 2018-12-21 09:24

Ok, so excellent job setting the mood in the beginning with the music, artstyle and narration. Got me there and i even wasn't actually playing. Now in game per se, i found nice graphics, smooth controls and funny audio, a reference of Spidey "I dont feel so good" maybe? It was a bit challenging until i understand the controls, than it was just a matter of proceed cautelosly. I felt it could use more levels, but as for a jam entry it is ok, and since i had this feeling it is because its a good one, no one wants more levels of a boring game.

Excellent entry guys. Also, props to you for controller support!

A moody entry indeed. I like the presentation of your game - it's pretty well done. The intro was quite creepy as well. The voices were a bit silent but that's okay.

Thank you for making this game!
