Looking good! Cna't wait to play it!
Just so you know, using sounds from freesound.org violates the compo rules. Fun game, though.
Amazing game, really coolgraphics and gameplay, keep up the good work :thumbsup:
It seems unfairly hard! The game is not very original but the theme is there.
Good job on your game :)
I didn´t rated your game, because there was no way to get to the game: "Arcade" was not possible to select, in the tutorial did nothing happen... Did I missed something?
Edit: Finally got there! Nice, but very tough game. I don´t rate Mood and Audio, because you used sounds from freesound.
Really fun game. I was compelled to get a higher score which kept me playing. Controls could be improved. Mabye i'm just too bad but I kept dying because of the acceleration. Great game altogether
Fun concept. Works really nicely with the theme. I think a bit of balancing and faster turning would improve the game.
@wskilljoy @game-coder28 @cowa @gilborn @duck-games @william-derksen Thanks to everyone for all the immense feedback! 7 comments in 1 day, that's a lot. I played most of the time with mouse controls, which are much easier for me. Faster turning could mean too much turning, but I can look into that. The concept, while maybe a bit overused, I think I still made my own by having to sometimes sacrifice your life to get ammo. As for the freesounds, well, whoops. DIdn't know that. 😳 I guess the only natural thing to do is to make a post-jam version (which somehow ALWAYS manages to come out) and remove the sounds from the in-jam version. Oh well!
Nice game! I really like the mechanic. It's quite difficult, and some more balancing could make it a lot better. The graphics had a lot of potential, given the white / black / red colour scheme, but unfortunately came off as a bit rushed. Killing enemies and collecting health was quite satisfying, so good job on that part! Overall a really unique game, good work!
Bugless is always nice :D
If an enemy gets behind you it's almost impossible to survive :(
@megalink I wanted the whole thing to look similar to something like the game "DATA WING", where you kind of move around a computer console. That's where the player design and glitch effects came from.
@echo-team I mainly played with mouse controls, where it's much easier to turn around, so keyboard controls may seem a bit harder. Sorry about that. 😬
Hey, cool game! I think we should improve the Graphics to attract more players.
I loved it, beautiful adaptation of the classic Asteroids for the theme of Ludum Dare 43. It deserves 5 stars without doubts.
All in all, its a great game! Simple, but good graphics. Its very hard!
Yeah the difficulty level with keyboard is intense :smile:. Took me a couple of tries to get to 10 points. Nevertheless, the game is a simple concept executed in a solid way. :thumbsup:
Nice but really need to make the tutorial optional.
Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on the fourth day of Ludum Dare streams. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://goo.gl/N2rkr8
@ursagames The enemies WERE NOT spawning on top of you. They only spawn at the edges of the screen. What happened was that you lost life due to shooting, and then there was the "glitch effect" that always happens when you die. Remember that you lose BOTH health AND ammo when you shoot.
@marvalgames I just want to make sure that the player knows how the game works before starting.
@alysson-moraes @mohrro @antti-tiihonen Thank you all!
Interesting concept but very confusing to play for me. I would like to side step :)
This is a cool take on that old school classic asteroids. The execution on the art and controls is great. Love the floating numbers and high score notification on kills.
I really liked the concept for this game but I found it was much too difficult (using keyboard controls). I did enjoy that the tutorial set you up with some understanding of the game before dropping you right in. The visual effects were nice. It was kind of hard for me to keep track of my health with it being in the corner, or maybe it would be better to just start with a bit more health. I felt like I could never really keep my health up.
@bentglasstube That's why I made the pickups every 4 enemies, but you gave me a good idea - a dynamic difficulty system. For my next game jam, I will do that.
I got a ideal for a game and don’t no how to go about getting it out there but hear it is, its a open world zombie game base on the looks of the world today and you can go to secrets military base and steal there weapons if you can make it pass there army and you can go to different continent if you can find gas to put in boats or airplane to fly or sail to the continent you going to each continent got different stuff you can do but the storyline is trying to take back the world from the zombies I like it to be like the last of us combine with call of duty and battle field but you only don't have to worry about the zombies you all so have to worry about the bad people and the military if you go to there base y'all do what you want with it I think it could be a bad ass ps4 game if somebody does it right
Great minimalist design that works with the kind of DOS/UNIX cmdline feel.
Ditto for the BGM.
I like your core concept that is married to the theme of sacrifices. I appreciate that you balanced around ammo and health being needed to shoot and put health drops on the battlefield, forces you to dash around from time to time to avoid shooting because you have to pick up health packs.
Makes for a fun time due to the whole feast and famine situation that develops with your health.
I really enjoyed the mood and gameplay of this game. It felt very stylished and atmospheric, which I adore in games, especially jam games. The gameplay itself was a really unique concept, however it was brutally difficult. I could never last for longer than a minute. I used mouse controls, over keyboard controls (and having two control schemes in a jam is really impressive), and even then it was really hard. You ran out of ammo way too quickly, and health similarly, and I felt the enemies were way too fast, I could never outrun them and I always died. I did like the tutorial section however, and it introduced some concepts well. Overall this felt really polished for a jam game, let alone in the compo category, yet there was slight difficulty issues that I had trouble with. Nice work!
Interesting! It was fairly hard to keep in mind that shooting also reduces HP; I think all my deaths came from trying to fend off against a horde and destroying myself as a result. I wasn't sure at the end if there's a balance to it all, because the more enemies there are on screen, the more damage you take but the more hp you also need to fight them; the ship's hitbox felt quite large, which increased the difficulty quite a bit. That said, the idea was very novel and the gameplay felt very solid. Nice work!
It was a very difficult game for me. But HP and the way to recover the bullet were novel. I think people who like these difficult shooting games will like it a lot. It's a great game.
@eatatjoes @gamefive Thanks!
@porcus-pie Dynamic difficulty update coming right up!
@hempuli FEEDBACK IS ENJOY
@dusty This is not a subreddit for game ideas. GET OUT. 😠 (also that's quite a mediocre and unoriginal idea)
Neat game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/aRIyiUZY0TQ
@sharks "Cna" you already play it? You comment (especially that typo) haunts me.
Edit: I just had to make a typo in that didn't I
love the ambiance of this game graphic and music Really challenging until you decide to use a gamepad ;)
Neat implementation of the theme. The playing field was a bit small, leaving you little room to maneuver. And with enemies being as fast as you, there's little you can do on the keyboard if one gets behind you. It might not have been a bad idea to remove the keyboard controls altogether, or not make them default. The mouse is indeed a lot easier.
Cool game, which was a bit too difficult for a Ludum Dare game I think. It would have been a lot easier if your movement was independent of your aiming so you can move with your keyboard and aim with the mouse to shoot down enemies.
Maybe introducing some sort of dash attack/move so you can escape from the enemies easier, this could use up more ammo as a "sacrifice".
I like the concept and how it connects to the theme, good job.
