Very fun and addicting gameplay. I wish there was an option to run.

talios 2018-08-13 16:44

Really awesome and funny game ! But just... Woah, who the heck is that guy ? Dude stop eating you're gonna die !! "I'm not gonna finish in time" THEN GEEZ JUST STOP EATING AND DRINKING 60 THINGS PER MINUTE.

In all seriousness, I'd just increase the player speed to make the action more crazy and, in my opinion, the mouse sensivity was really low. Overall it was an awesome game ! :D

boltkey 2018-08-13 16:50

I got an error during the loading screen.

A TDR has been detected. The application must close.

Error code: 7

It may be an error on my side, but I did not experience it with any other games.

jharler 2018-08-13 16:53

@boltkey what are your computer specs? My google search indicates that error occurs when the graphics card is overloaded. Are you using an integrated or low powered graphics card? There should be a log.txt file in the app's directory. If you could copy that into pastebin and reply here with the link, I'll see if there's anything I can do about it. Thanks!

derpylz 2018-08-13 16:55

Very nice interpretation of the theme, very clever idea. As the person above me said, I would increase the player speed a bit. It's hard enough

boltkey 2018-08-13 17:29

@jharler [log.txt pastebin](https://pastebin.com/7JuxBm24)

I have NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 and Intel i3-4170. Most of Unity games are a bit laggy for me, especially when they are not optimized.

When I got my 4k display, I had to tinker with some settings and override some stuff, so the problem may be from that.

jharler 2018-08-13 18:03

@boltkey I think I might know what the problem is. Here's a new version you can try: https://bit.ly/2Mpp4Rc. If that one fails as well, please send me a new log file. You can either post here, or email me at jharler@gmail.com. Thanks for your help!

jharler 2018-08-13 18:06

@314owen I hear you! Originally the gameplay was much slower and it took much longer to lose. I sped up every stage of the game (he increases speed in stages) and that made it much more fast paced. I should have increased the speed you moved or at least allowed you the option to run. Thanks for the feedback!

@talios He only takes a bite or two out of each item before he throws them, so he's self regulating a bit. :) I keep forgetting to make an option for mouse sensitivity. I'll try to get a post compo version up with this option.

@derpylz Thanks for the feedback! Maybe I'll add a run option in a post compo version.

nikasxirtla 2018-08-14 13:52

Interesting concept. Loved it!

colin-doody 2018-08-14 13:56

Great work with the audio, it really gave the experience life. Only immediate feedback is I felt the mouse sensitivity was a little bit low.

steffo 2018-08-14 13:59

Something isn't working with the textures on my computer... Here's the [log.txt](https://gist.github.com/Steffo99/a3243c0e7244df24371993da6ce58811).

fenderbate 2018-08-14 14:00

I enjoyed it a lot, but an option to run and to pick up more then 1 thing (maybe 3 at max) could be a nice touch

muriel 2018-08-14 14:01

OMG, as a gamer I love it! As a programmer considering that you did it with your custom libraries I love it even more.

Good job dude keep it up!

mantou 2018-08-14 14:07

Can I kick his ass?

jharler 2018-08-14 14:40

@steffo thank you so much for the log! It helped me narrow down the problem. Turns out if you launch from the itch app, there are no game textures. I've released a new version that fixes the problem if you'd like to give it another shot.

@nikasxirtla Thanks!

@colin-doody Thanks for the feedback. That seems to be a common complaint and something I'm going to address going forward.

@fenderbate Thanks for playing and the feedback. I entertained the idea of carrying multiple items or switching items you're holding, but I just ran out of time to do anything like that.

@muriel Thanks! Developing your own library is definitely not easy, but it's very rewarding and a lot of fun!

@mantou Haha, maybe that will be my game for LD43! :)

steffo 2018-08-14 14:42

@jharler Glad to have helped! ^^

gexalmighty 2018-08-14 14:59

I would punch that guy in the back of the head.

Funny little game, all my thoughts have pretty much already been said in the first few comments. Doesn't stick to the theme all that well though, we are "running out of space" in a very vague way (My game is the same in this regard though)

mike-inprinciple 2018-08-14 18:15

I found the setting, graphics and sound to be very well suited for your context. Unfortunately, the mouse sensitivity was too low for me, which made it very difficult to enjoy your game properly.

shp 2018-08-14 20:56

Nice visuals especially for your own engine, respect! the mouse input needs to be ironed out a little bit though, very choppy for me!

kmce 2018-08-14 22:51

Fun little game. Art style and sound effects went nicely. Awesome that it used your own engine.

And the ability to adjust the mouse sensitivity was a nice addition.

hunter-towe 2018-08-15 02:14

This game has mostly basic 3D graphics. For a lot of games, I don't feel like that works well. In this game, though, I feel like you pulled it off in an appealing way!

I think the audio is pretty good, and I like the voices-- they add a little humor to the game!

I feel like the theme could've been implemented in a more effective way; but, the idea is somewhat innovative, and I like that.

The game feels a little slow sometimes, so being able to move a little faster would be nice. Picking up the trash is a little difficult sometimes, so it would also be nice to have an increased pickup range.

As a whole, this game is an interesting experience and I think it's a pretty creative concept! The gameplay is a little slow-paced and feels like it's working against the player just a little, but other than that I like it!

Also, this is unrelated to the feedback, but I went to try the game again and it crashed. [Here's the log.](https://gist.github.com/HunterTowe/0aac6596d5d5c4944d16335c04e8d750#file-log-txt)

awix 2018-08-15 05:44

Great graphics and the audio really helps you get into the game.

agentparsec 2018-08-15 07:38

A lot of funny lines throughout the game! Mouse sensitivity needs to be better though, and I wish I could run so that I could keep up with things better; I never left the kitchen area because I couldn't keep up with the trash just in that area. If I tried to go anywhere else in the room, by the time I came back to the kitchen I'd have way more junk scattered everywhere, and I was never without junk in the kitchen so there was no reason to go anywhere else. Otherwise, nicely done!

glock00 2018-08-15 13:35

Wow, great entry! I love the fact you 3D-modeled all this in this short time. The guy's animations are fantastic. I also like the changing speed of the music as it gets messy. What I didn't like is the slow mouse controls. Good job!

jharler 2018-08-15 14:31

@gexalmighty Yeah, he's not very considerate, is he?

@mike-inprinciple Thanks for the input. I've put a post compo version that has a mouse sensitivity setting if you'd like to play it as intended.

@shp Thanks! I'm wondering if it's an input problem or a framerate problem. What graphics card are you running?

@kmce Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.

@hunter-towe Thank you for the in-depth review. I'll take a look at the log file and see if I can determine why it failed the second time. Does it crash every time now?

@awix Thanks! I spent a lot of time since last LD working on my modeling skills.

@agentparsec I've put out a post-compo version that includes mouse sensitivity options (hit escape in the game to access it), so you can play it with better controls if you'd like.

@glock00 Thanks! A large chunk of my 48 hours were spent in Blender! I think I spent about 5 hours on the guy and his animations. Sorry about the mouse control. I put a post compo version out with a mouse sensitivity option if you'd like to give it a shot.

shp 2018-08-15 17:12

@jharler framerate seemed smooth, I have r9 290

masterkrepta 2018-08-16 00:48

This was hilarious. I love the whimsical style of the music, and I enjoyed the random audio call outs.

As others have mentioned, an ability to run would have been helpful, especially near the end when its a race against the clock.

comenoha 2018-08-16 01:00

This might be the most accurate ludum dare gif I have ever seen

Animation.gif

hunter-towe 2018-08-16 02:18

@jharler It does crash every time now.

glock00 2018-08-16 07:02

Thanks for the mouse sensitivity option. I replayed the postCompo version and that makes he game even more enjoyable for me. I there a key for detaching an item in your hand btw? Oh, and could you please add the blender source files? I also spend hours on end in Blender for my game and I like your art style. Totally understand if you couldn't, although it would be against the rules :P

jharler 2018-08-16 11:26

@hunter-towe Did you download LudumDareToBeMessy.3.zip? I need to add versioning to my logs so I can tell which build it comes from...

@glock00 I'm glad you found it more enjoyable with the mouse sensitivity option. There is no way to drop an item other than putting it in the proper bin. Technically, the rules only require source code to be included (which I've done), but I will provide the [blender files as well](http://joshuaharler.net/ludumdare/LD42/LD42_BlenderAssets.zip).

jharler 2018-08-16 11:31

@shp That card should be fine. Hmm, I'll need to look into possible input issues. Do you have a standard mouse or are you using a gaming mouse? Wireless? Any extra info you can provide would be helpful. Thanks!

@masterkrepta Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Next time I will be sure to add the ability to run. Learned my lesson on that one. :)

@comenoha Yeah, I felt like that myself with all the snacks and drinks I had this past weekend. Fortunately, I tried to keep it relatively healthy!

hunter-towe 2018-08-16 11:32

@jharler I tried the updated version and everything seems to be working now.

poffle 2018-08-16 11:37

Nice little idea but I think I'd prefer to be the guy at the desk, without the impending diabetes though. I really liked the art style and mood of it but maybe a tad too slow for me. It would be nice if you could throw the rubbish too, add one of those little basketball hoops above the bin, haha.

jharler 2018-08-16 11:59

@hunter-towe Excellent! Thanks for confirming that it works.

@poffle He's only eating/drinking a little bit from each item, so he should be ok. :) Actually, I did want to add the ability to throw the items into the bins, but I ran out of time.

shp 2018-08-16 13:00

@jharler it's a wired zowie fk with no custom software/drivers at all, so it should be as standard as it gets. 500hz polling rate, on win8.1

glock00 2018-08-16 13:18

@jharler Greatly appreciate the blender files. Thank you!

2018-08-18 14:22

Funny idea! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/pT1wbP1q_Ao
