The links to the game don't work (not found).

susanthecat 2011-12-19 22:11

Thanks!

That graveyard is REALLY nice. im ALWAYS there. BZZZT

susanthecat 2011-12-21 03:05

OMG - I just realized that one of the "hidden" stats is showing. A free kitten to whoever can figure out what it is a stat for. (It's the number in the top left corner)

A good entry for the Jam, I think. It has appropriate music and the graphics all fit together well. I didn't think the theme was shown very well however. Good work.

This is fantastic! I love the idea of a shooter mini-game as a dream sequence. The artwork was nice, but I would have liked to have seen the characters every time I spoke with them. Congratulations to you and your team! :)

summaky 2011-12-23 18:30

I too would like to see the characters as I talk to them. Also, unfortunately, the mini-game wasn't showing on my computer at all; all I could see is a black screen until it said that I killed 0 monsters.

The music and the graphics were well done, but it seems that game is not my kind of game, as I got bored after 13 days and I couldn't seem to notice any difference between any of them :'(

seagaia 2011-12-24 19:49

HAHAHAHA THE FUNK MUSIC WHEN THE GIRL STAYS OVERNIGHT. I laughed out loud at that...well played.

I found this game creepy as hell, actually...I don't know, it was unsettling. Maybe because I always picked "Graveyard".

pierrec 2011-12-29 08:44

The bigger problem is we can't see most of the people we're talking to, it's pretty unusual for a dating sim.
But I'm very impressed by the amount of work here! Congratulations!

susanthecat 2011-12-29 12:45

The artist miscalculated how long it would take to make all the sprites. That is what is great about Ludum Dare, you get to find out how hard it is to make games and how much work there is.

I like the whole concept, this is similar to my game and I certainly think I can borrow some of your ideas :p

I really hope you can finish this up, it has a lot of potential if you can dedicate more time to it.

I agree with all the comments before mine and would also suggest you could make the transitions between some scenes less abrupt (especially the music changes).

Seems like it pays off to have kids after all, you now have a little army of game devs working for you heh heh way to go!

caranha 2012-01-03 21:26

A date simulator, that was a nice change (although I didn't find much love in it :'( ) I liked trying to reach the different endings! I think there are only 4, right?

I think some more feedback to your actions would have been nice. I spent days and days talking to the same character in classes, and outwardly nothing changed.

Oh, I found a runtime error while playing: just after trudy invites me to a party on friday, I get a "key error"

Thanks for the game!

susanthecat 2012-01-04 03:05

@Caranha - thanks for letting me know the error.

Went on for a beat too long, but it's an ambitious idea. Like the concept of mini-games interspersed between dating sim sequences. Wait... You had an army of kids working on a dating sim?

A post-mortem of this might be neat. What your plans would be for a full scope version of this game + spoiling the other endings :P

ladron 2012-01-05 22:47

I've never played a dating sim / shooter hybrid before. I wanted to be popular, but I was better at increasing my insanity.

philhassey 2012-01-07 22:34

Thanks for making your game run on OS X :) It was an interesting play, after about 16 days, I gave up a bit, as I wasn't quite sure what I was trying to achieve. But I've never played a dating sim type game before, so it was a whole new experience for me. The shooter mini-game was a pretty funny diversion!

kellythomas 2012-01-08 00:41

It's quite detailed isn't it.

cambrian_era 2012-01-08 01:35

Cool entry, I feel like with so many people to meet, I lost track of who was who, though.

headchant 2012-01-08 02:59

The music is absolutely insane = i loved it.

stargoat 2012-01-08 05:02

Haha woah, this is a strange game!

I thought it was a very interesting take on the theme.

djcsdy 2012-01-08 14:13

The shrill brass and woodwind parts in the music really hurt my ears and I had to turn treble way down on my hifi to be able to stand it at all :(. I want to quite like the music, but it's just too squeaky.

I couldn't quite work out the relationship between my actions and their consequences, but then I've never been able to do that in real-life dating either.

Oh, just read the spoilers in your blog posts. It turns out I did have a pretty good idea what was going on, but I didn't twig that the characters getting killed off were the ones I was closest to.

I quite like the idea but I got a bit lost to be honest :).

cosr 2012-01-09 09:56

I feel this was probably just too ambitious for a jam project. No one part of the game really feels polished enough. As a result, there's just not enough there to hold much interest.

None of the dialogs or little events seem developed enough to really immerse the player or give them much of a sense of what they're doing.

Not bad by any stretch, but it really shows that the scope was too much for the time frame.

susanthecat 2012-01-09 16:41

Thanks for all the great comments.

The game did get a bit away from us. We'll know better for next time. We had a bunch of creative people in a room and suffered from "Wouldn't it be cool if..." and someone else would add detail to it. And then the next thing we knew, we would have another character.

I mostly felt like I was on rails in a very strange half-drawn story I didn't understand. It seemed like half the time I would choose a conversation option and then the game would simply continue however it wanted to, unrelated to my choice. The stat system similarly made no sense to me - I was just choosing stuff to watch how the movie would progress. Also, how does this match the theme? Is it a dating game or something?

triplefox 2012-01-09 23:56

The breadth of this game was very cool. It definitely could have done with more cutting and focus though; playing it, it's hard to get any idea of what actions are worthwhile.
