LD22 — Alone

Angry Kitten Gods Of War by deps 2011-12-23T01:53:00

I found it was quite hard to play, but it may just be my machine not running the game smoothly. I like what I saw of the gameplay and I haven't played many games with arrows keys to shoot. The sound effects fit but there wasn't any music? Any way, quite a good game.

Not/Alone by davecheesefish 2011-12-22T15:15:00

Difficult to play due to the speed you move at or the size of the squares. Gameplay is good, controls are good, graphics are good. However, there's no fun or audio (that I know of, I use Chrome) and the square is just a square, not a person, and I can't sympathise with a 'lonely' square. Good work with the graphics and gameplay.

One Final Trek by vandriver 2011-12-23T07:46:00

You seem to, uh, made a very similar game to me. Not that I'm saying you stole it. But you did an amazing job. How did you do your lighting?

First, great that you have a loading thing. Positive first impression. Second impression was humour and honesty. It's great that you're excusing yourself for something I haven't seen yet rather than saying sorry after I've complained.

But really, this is about the game and not as much about your personal qualities. The gameplay works but I didn't predict that jumping on a kitten would kill it. In hindsight it makes sense (in the real world) but you can't kill Luigi by jumping Mario onto him. THAT doesn't make sense, to me. Graphics are 1-up from nonexistant, no audio, no real theme except for the intro story and I was expecting more levels. Sorry, but you should try harder or give more content.

Quality or quantity or both, but neither doesn't cut it. Kudos for trying.

Leave Me Alone by StabAlarash 2011-12-22T14:45:00

The controls are thoughtless - meaning I didn't have to think about using them, I just played, and the graphics are pretty neat. I expected some frantic music to be playing and the jump sound honestly made ME jump. It's kinda funny, I suppose the story makes it that way, and I could have just kept playing all night. However, the theme didn't fit very well. Sure there's no teamwork gameplay, but you're "an indie developer", meaning there's more of them? Hm. Graphics and fun and controls more than made up for that though. Good job.

Space Ghost by madmaw 2011-12-22T15:24:00

I tried some simple addition then went straight to geometry, parabolas and such. Too bad I had forgotten most of what each formula actually looked like XD.

A good idea for an educational game. The graphics were absolutely appropriate, especially the screen flicker for some reason. The theme didn't fit so much, but only because of how the game is shown, not because there is only one 'character'. Good job.

You Don't Need To Be Alone by SusanTheCat 2011-12-23T02:15:00

A good entry for the Jam, I think. It has appropriate music and the graphics all fit together well. I didn't think the theme was shown very well however. Good work.

The Lonely Alien by Chaoslab 2011-12-23T01:48:00

I like it! Though a little hard to read the text, the story is quite funny. The music complements the game well and the graphics fit, like the alien itself drew them. Great work!

Dino Pilot and The Lonely Skies by benthepoet 2011-12-22T14:52:00

You didn't bring anything new to the table and your graphics could have had more animation or effects, but the gameplay was solid enough to not get annoyed and the theme was conveyed pretty much exactly, if simply. I found that I was avoiding the asteroids/meteors/rocks more than destroying them, and I did want to get to the end to see what happened. I only played once and died from the boss. A good job overall but nothing quite unique in my book.

ALONE with K.I.T.T.I. by pbdiode 2011-12-23T01:26:00

I like the story of this game, as well as the graphics and sound, but it really is just a roguelike isn't it? There was some humour I thought; however it didn't really seem like you were "alone" until the end when you jumped into the escape pod. The theme is shown, so that's good enough. I would have liked some capital letters in the speech though. Good job.

I Am Alone: Top Down Survival Shooter by ProjectX 2011-12-22T15:31:00

I imagine this is what Geometry Wars looked like before they revamped the art style. Sorry, but I do not like the graphics. They remind me of a previous game I tried making that crashed and burned and killed my inspiration for a while.

Apart from that, the gameplay works, the music is pretty retro and the theme is absolutely there. Nothing new, though. Like I said, steer away from recreating Geometry Wars.

Hi SukiSan.

I'm not sure why you're trying to run this on OSX, or why you've given me a Java runtime exception, but the game is only meant to run on Windows. I think that there is a GameMakerToMac application somewhere but I have not used it for this.

A Manor of Speaking by Yoman 2011-12-22T13:48:00

@SonnyBone: I first tried with a GameMaker-specific thing called Surfaces but couldn't get it working straight away and so resorted to transparent images instead. The flashlight is a transparent yellow cone and the overall darkness is a stretched transparent pixel. Simple, but works.

@soy_yuma: Thanks!

Both of you, not sure about why the flashlight-off bug exists but I'll look into it for the next version. Keep the comments coming, even if it's just 'I like the lighting' !

AHA! I think I have discovered the source of my bugs! As long as you don't click outside the game screen, everything seems to work fine.

A Manor of Speaking by Yoman 2011-12-23T08:22:00

I also seem to have left my debug key to skip the cutscene in. It's Backspace, but be aware that it only works when the intro character is on screen, and is not totally tested. The cutscene is short though.

Are you playing the Jam entry (Linked as 'Windows') or the LD48 entry that I linked at the bottom?

A Manor of Speaking by Yoman 2011-12-24T01:11:00

I can't seem to reproduce these bugs that seem to happen so often to you guys. If I could get a video or screenshots it would help.

Isolated Assault by RobProductions 2011-12-23T02:33:00

Pretty great game! I like the concept of staying in shaded areas and the sunglasses giving you a break. The audio was good too and I did feel that the theme was shown well. Good job.

Lonely Island by sanojian 2011-12-22T14:13:00

I think it's a good game. The theme was shown well, I thought the audio was quite corny :P and I had to keep trying to win, although I wasn't able to before boredom set in. It could look better and the gameplay was there, but it felt like it was still in production.

Don't Touch Me by mklee 2011-12-22T15:17:00

Very stalker-ish, very simple, very easy but also luck-dependant. I suppose you were seeing how well you got with such an simple thing? Not awesome but not poor. Average score from me.

Together Alone by zwets 2011-12-22T14:36:00

I love this game! The gameplay is unique as far as I know, I HAD to finish it to see if the two ever met and the graphics are great. I did mix up the gray tiles a few tiles but that could just be my monitor. The audio stopped a few minutes into it but what I did hear sounded good. Great job!

Alone with Mines by vgrichina 2011-12-22T15:00:00

I never liked playing Minesweeper, but I love Minecraft, so you're lucky ;). Never imagined a combo of the two. I would have liked an easier start and a digging animation or progress bar or similar. The theme is conveyed well, but I had difficulty using the controls at first due to the 'digging time'. I thought it would be more like an insta-dig. Apart from that, it looks pretty good and it plays pretty good. Powerups or the like would be a good addition to counter the 'luck' part, like an actual minesweeper gadget, radar or even armour. Great job overall.

I didn't get past two-blocks high; I kept losing :/ .
