| Jan 10 16:00:54 | Hare Runner | ♥ 5 | The writing and humor are top notch, and the voice acting really makes it shine! I think the player's hitbox is a bit vague? I assume it's wherever the player's shadow is, but I wasn't willing to experiment with it. The difficulty ramps up at a perfect pace for a game jam game! Making the attack melee is certainly a change of pace from other bullet hells I've played, and I feel like it's a bit of a sloppy implementation. If the enemies are to your left it's incredibly annoying, and in some cases near impossible to 'harvest' them without taking damage. On a lighter note, the visuals are outstanding. I love the flashy "Difficulty up!" text. There's a lot of subtle details with the visuals that make this stand out. And the title screen, oh my! I was unable to reach the final boss after 4 tries. I'm not great at bullet hells, so that's to be expected, I guess. I feel like every attempt I got close, but there's just way too much projectiles to dodge when I can only attack with a melee attack. Very cool game though! | |
| Jan 10 16:27:31 | 26m 37s | Disassembly Line | ♥ 3 | The title screen looks rad as heck! (The game over screen too!) the background in game is a bit lacking though. I ran into that issue while making my own game this jam, and my solution was just to add a repeating polka dot pattern. It's not a perfect solution, but it prevents the background from simply being a flat single color. I think it's a bit interesting how the final score includes a lot of decimals. You might want to truncate it to just one or two. On the topic of small improvements, the quit button on the title screen also starts the game, ha! I wish the controls were explained somewhere in game, with either a tutorial, or just off to the side of the screen until you've interacted with everything. (or at least on the itch page somewhere.) I know the controls are mentions here on the ludum dare page, but it's nice to have them mentioned in game. I think the gameplay is a little too slow. I'm not sure if it ramps up in difficulty, and if it does it needs to happen sooner. The bodies on the conveyors move at an incredibly slow rate, and honestly, after a scoring a few points I lost interest in playing. I don't want to sound too negative, I just wish there was some more to do. The artwork in game is cute, and I love the scooping sound effects. ha! Nice work. |
| Jan 10 16:37:34 | 10m 03s | PoiĆ©in | ♥ 2 | I feel like the 'grabby tool' should always be directly above the mouse, so clicking on the dudes will always be enough to grab them. It feels weird to click on them and then realize the grabby tool was several feet behind the guy. I enjoyed making various landscaped and combining the dudes, but it didn't really feel like there was an end goal besides fill every plot of land. I wish there were some more combinations too, or at least some checklist so I know I found them all. I love the look of the poieins, and the animations are friggin' adorable. nice work! |
| Jan 10 16:47:22 | 9m 48s | CrapCirclz | ♥ 5 | Oh dang the graphics are fantastic. I love the spooky scratchy feel to it all! Even outside the main play area, the trees and fence and stuff looks great. Nice details! I also love the goofy name for all the menu options! I think the gameplay could use some polish though. the aliens are way too.. slippery? It's hard to make a good circle in the field... I kept slipping and making it too obtuse. Which is weird, since the aliens have tentacles. you'd think slipping wouldn't be an issue, ha! All around, nice work! |
| Jan 10 16:57:08 | 9m 46s | Mushrun | ♥ 0 | I think it's a bit too zoomed in, and you move a bit too slow. I know that's all to build suspense and make the horror game a bit spookier, but it's not fun to just wander around aimlessly looking for something, especially while also running away. It just builds frustration to longer you spend looking for it without finding anything. I like the character design, and the monster looks really cool too! nice work. |
| Jan 10 17:24:24 | 27m 16s | ORGAN GRINDER | ♥ 3 | Haaa! I love the hand gun, and the animation at the start of the game with the hand gun appearing got a great chuckle out of me. I also appreciate the built in option to cheat in extra resources. I didn't do too well in my first few runs, so it let me get to experience a bit more of the game. Nice work all around! The animations are great, the level is well designed, it feels good. |
| Jan 10 17:35:26 | 11m 02s | Dynia | ♥ 1 | First things first, I am devastated this game doesn't have a built in speedrun timer. That is the perfect game to implement one, and I'm honestly a bit shocked it doesn't show your time in the victory screen. (along with other stats, like total deaths) With that out of the way... This is one of the funniest games I've played in quite a few Ludum Dares. The scream, the nonsensical player exploding, I love all of it. The artwork is so adorable, and the game is so cartoonishly violent. It's exactly my sense of humor. The steering is so wonky, it's hard not to have a huge stupid grin, even while you're failing the same section over and over. Ah, I love it. Seriously great work. Oh, and god dang that music is a bop. |
| Jan 10 17:41:51 | 6m 25s | Bewitched Potatoes | ♥ 2 | Oh wow hot dang, that music goes hard! I love the adorable art style, and the animations are all nice too! Plus the subtle foot step sound when you move- the details make this game great. I'm not sure if there's a way to "win" other than just survive as long as possible, but I had fun! Great work. |
| Jan 10 18:28:44 | 46m 53s | Rollin' | ♥ 7 | okay wow! This is by far the best game I've played in a few Ludum dares. The graphics are beyond outstanding. The grass, the water, everything is so good! I had so much fun, I maxxed out all the stats. Ah man, and the level is huge! There's so much to explore. Seriously, this has raised the bar. It's all around an incredible game. The *only* complaint I have is that since I'm playing in ultrawide, the camera is a bit too close to the character. I tried changing the resolution (and wow, what a well made pause menu!) but it just stretched everything to fit my monitor's resolution, despite trying to make it 16 by 9. Oh man, this game has style. Absolutely great job all around. I hope this wins. |
| Jan 10 18:46:26 | 17m 42s | Reap What You Sow | ♥ 2 | Sometimes the grim reaper moves way too fast (and it's very difficult to dodge). It's unpredictable and just leads to an upsetting unpreventable death. The rest of the game is pretty great, the graphics are cool and the character design is fun! I think the difficulty needs to be addressed though. If players aren't surviving for more than 30 seconds, they simply won't have fun. It also makes it hard to get invested in the run when it could end because of a force that feels unfair. I think this game could benefit from having a metric of score. Perhaps display how many enemies you killed on the 'game over' screen. or at least how many seconds you survived. that lets players in the comments have a little extra something to talk about, and it adds a little extra 'flair' even when the player doesn't succeed. like, "You died. but on the plus side you killed 22 dudes." or something. Then on the victory screen display a speedrun time. I dunno. It's a neat idea, but I think the difficulty dampens the experience. Cool game though. |
| Jan 10 18:54:14 | 7m 48s | Calorie Crunch | ♥ 3 | I love that you show statistics on the victory screen! Far too many games just *end* you know? I definitely had a hard time figuring out some of the recipes. (and in the end I still never figured out some of them) but I had a lot of fun. The sound effects are cute, and the monster is a fun little guy. I really enjoyed this one! Great work. |
| Jan 10 19:20:21 | 26m 07s | Five Finger Copper Shopper | ♥ 1 | I love how there are different endings. I got the ending for getting caught, not stealing anything, and getting away! I think there was an issue with throwing items though, as soon as I threw something I was no longer able to pick up any more copper for the rest of the run. Cool game though! My best score is 13 pounds. |
| Jan 10 19:41:14 | 20m 53s | Wheat World | ♥ 2 | Ah wow what a cool game! Everything is perfect except for one tiny detail. There should be a screen at the end of the game to show all of your speedrun times so I can post a screenshot of my legendary splits! Absolutely incredible game. The cut mechanic to give you extra height is such a cool idea, and the puzzles around it are well made. the background is stunning (the foreground too) and the music is great. Oh and, this game has SECRET LEVELS??? (I went back and found them. good lord, this is a contender for first place.) They remind me of the Celeste B-Sides. Plus, that music change is rad. Seriously excellent work for a team of one! |
| Jan 10 19:48:38 | 7m 24s | Typefarmer | ♥ 0 | I love the animations of the lil guy. My dyslexia definitely threw a wrench in any chance I had for a good highscore though, ha! The music slaps, and the sound effects are great. Nice work. |
| Jan 10 19:54:22 | 5m 44s | Public service announcement | ♥ 1 | Cancel culture has gone too far. In all seriousness, the 'thing' is pretty funny, so I hope it scores well in humor. It deserves it. I love the game you describe in text. with the "whoosh" and "particle effects". ha! I like the subtle movements in the hair, and the field behind the girl. I would consider the extra text at the very end before it loops as an easter egg. it got one last chuckle out of me. |
| Jan 10 20:21:26 | 27m 04s | Harvest Dune | ♥ 5 | I recorded myself playing the game, (but it's my first recording of the jam, so I didn't balance the audio until the end of the video. Whoops!!) I hope it's enough feedback, ha! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4O6Zf77W3I |
| Jan 10 20:37:48 | 16m 22s | Slime Crime | ♥ 2 | Oh this is lovely. The music is an absolute bop, and the artwork is stellar. I recorded myself playing the game for extra feedback. Fantastic work! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1oEOT2vYg4 |
| Jan 10 20:51:41 | 13m 53s | Tuber Trouble | ♥ 3 | Oh my gosh this was adorable. I recorded myself playing so I could provide maximum feedback! Fantastic work! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnqC2m6o04A |
| Jan 10 21:08:29 | 16m 48s | Consumption | ♥ 1 | Cool idea! It took some getting used too though. I recorded myself playing the game to give maximum feedback. (And I also got softlocked at the end of the video, so I really hope this video helps!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2ZMVqi0jWc |
| Jan 10 21:30:28 | 21m 59s | Aggro-Culture | ♥ 3 | I love how the options you pick after a stage give you a positive effect and a negative effect. It's quite a nice twist and it really makes you consider the consequences of your actions. I made it to stage 4 and lost because I wasn't sure where the enemies would be coming from (web version. there was definitely stuff happening slightly off screen) and the plants I placed as a defense where nowhere near the enemies." All around, a very well made game. Great work! |
| Jan 13 01:27:58 | 51h 57m | Ohio Simulator | ♥ 2 | That was quite the authentic Ohio experience. I recorded myself playing for extra feedback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE0e3k5CHnY |
| Jan 13 01:41:03 | 13m 05s | Vegan Vince | ♥ 3 | I had a lot of fun going for the high score! The mountain of corpses really caught me by surprise. Cool idea! I recorded myself playing for maximum feedback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nib7g6m_gzs |
| Jan 13 01:48:56 | 7m 53s | Frosty Forestry | ♥ 1 | This is one of those game that ends at the right time. You lead the player in with the easy expectation, but as boss starts upping the order, it doesn't feel overwhelming. The section with the cars is a nice break from the trees and it adds some nice variety to the gameplay. Then finally, you circle back to the trees and finish the game. Well made. I recorded myself playing so I could deliver maximum feedback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTbqisvMzhw |
| Jan 13 02:03:22 | 14m 26s | Grave Harvest | ♥ 7 | Oh this was delightful. It took me a little bit to figure out what I was doing, but I won on my second try! I recorded myself playing for maximum feedbackage!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMe5iqQl0NU |
| Jan 13 02:36:26 | 33m 04s | Garden of Eat'n | ♥ 3 | I really didn't understand what to do, and I played the tutorial. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to make any food that wasn't using a glowing baby of some sort, but then the food wasn't to their specifications! In any case, I recorded myself playing so you can see my experience with the game, and hopefully what needs to be explained better. There's also a good possibility I'm dumb and just missed something simple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUjWf4LZyo0 |
| Jan 13 03:03:12 | 26m 46s | Scream of the Crop | ♥ 2 | The artwork is outstanding! It might just be how I chose to play the game, but it felt *really slow*. I probably could've upgraded more, but chose to just sit through the first boss with the range character. I also got softlocked at the level 2 boss fight. I recorded myself playing to provide extra feedback. I think the game needs a volume slider. It was ver loud compared to the other games I have played this jam, and because of that I didn't adjust the volume in my recording, so the music drowns out most of my commentary. my bad! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDaL2F5q01A |
| Jan 14 15:25:59 | 36h 22m | The Eversoul | ♥ 1 | The models and animations are well made! I beat the game, but while that was happening I was still being attacked, so I also got a game over? you might want to make everything stop moving / make the player invulnerable when in a "you win state". All around, cool stuff. |
| Jan 14 16:12:15 | 46m 16s | The Anti-Harvest Brigade | ♥ 1 | I had a lot of fun with this! I was able to breeze through most of the game, but was dealt an impossible starting hand for the final fight. I would really appreciate the option to retry the fight instead of restarting the game. The punishment of restarting the game did not feel justified due to the RNG nature of the hand I was dealt. Also, I don't think anything did poison damage, so the antidote was just wasting inventory space. Other than that, I loved the characters! The enemies had some pretty humorous attacks too, which I really enjoyed. I recorded myself playing so I could provide extra feedback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCzAsBH2atA |
| Jan 14 16:25:30 | 13m 15s | BLUOT | ♥ 1 | Sorry to hear ~~you spaghettied yourself into the nightmare realm~~ it was once working but then broke! I enjoyed the colorful aesthetic of the shapes you can place. I recorded myself playing so I could deliver maximum feedback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKsdI1icBR4 |
| Jan 14 17:07:54 | 42m 24s | Mineral Maniac | ♥ 2 | I love the music! The gameplay definitely gets a bit stale around floor 6 though. Also, since the fairies and hammers have a maximum level, it almost tells the player "hey, you can stop playing now." I was really holding out for a final boss, and eventually I was skipping the crystals entirely just to speed things up. Anyway, I recorded myself playing for maximum feedback. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBQATRpE2mQ |
| Jan 14 17:15:14 | 7m 20s | N.O.A.S. | ♥ 3 | "Bingo Blammo Boppo" is quite the powerful legal spell! I imagine only level 8 lawyers and higher can pull that one off. I feel like the plants grew a bit too fast. In the early stage, you can the first one easy, maybe the second one early as well, but after that it feels impossible to get any of them before they fully grow. Cool game, but I think it gets too difficult too fast. |
| Jan 14 17:30:52 | 15m 38s | Cookie Typer! | ♥ 1 | I **really** wish the music was longer than a 5 second loop. I usually aim for 3 minutes with my games. I think that's my biggest issue with this game, the incredibly short music loop. Also there's a little bit of irony in the fact that you misspelled "Cost" in a game about typing. The words per minute tracker immediately jumps up to 30 whenever a word is typed, perhaps you want to find a more accurate way of calculating the WPM. Other than that, I like the letters inside the cookie. The gameplay is definitely reminiscent of Cookie Clicker! Congrats on your second Ludum Dare, by the way! I think the biggest issue with idle games in a game jam is there's no goal. Maybe I could aim to have a million cookies, but I don't see any reason to spend that much time with this. Cookie clicker also spices it up with several different "cookie bots", so the gameplay really speeds up. This game only has the one cookie bot and no upgrades, so it goes a bit slow. Comparing this game to another typing game I have played this jam, I have noticed the list of words here is way shorter. I ran into several duplicates in this one, while the other game likely had the entire english dictionary. In a game like this, you definitely want variety, so adding to your list of words would be the best course of action. And definitely consider my note on making the music longer. I've been where you are, and my music compositional skills didn't get where they are overnight, but you should practice with making longer songs that have more then the same 4 measure repeating over and over. I'll admit, my own music tends to repeat measures a lot, but I also add several layers, harmonies, and then I change up the melody here and there to make it longer. *Edit:* Oh, and add arpeggios. Arpeggios are cool. Nice work! |
| Jan 21 04:49:02 | 155h 18m | Inside | ♥ 1 | I played this with my room mates, and we had a blast the entire time. The story is absolutely absurd and the characters are well drawn. It definitely took us too long to figure out what we were doing, but we played until the end. It took like, 27 minutes to realize extra dialogue options were arriving. Definitely our fault not yours, ha! I recorded it for maximum feedbackage, and I hope you enjoy all of our terrible voice acting, and all of our occasional dyslexia butchering your script. (we didn't hear any of the game audio while playing, sorry if the audio of the game is too loud!) I can't believe it took me all the way until the end to catch on to what the characters were parodying. (see 39 minutes and 39 seconds into the video) I only made the connection of 'Toto' while watching the footage. ahhhhhh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMcH4tZ6bF0 |
| Jan 27 20:42:01 | 159h 52m | Growin' Ballistic | ♥ 1 | Ah-ha! I was still able to play and rate the game after the deadline. Good stuff, I really enjoyed this one. I also liked the 'cameo' of the main character from your previous game showing up as a plant, ha! I recorded myself so I could deliver maximum feedback. Great work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT8P0Yjk5Wg |
| Jan 27 21:04:21 | 22m 20s | Boba | ♥ 1 | Wow. At first I wasn't *that* blown away. These comments are glowing, but I didn't see what the fuss was all about. As soon as it split into 3 windows, I was stunned. Wow, what in the world. And then the ending cutscene... I just sat in silence for a while thinking about what I witnessed. Yeah, This game deserves to win. Great work. |
