LD39 — Running out of Power

Firepower by akai_0okami 2017-08-08T09:17:23Z

This was VERY dialed in to the difficulty. I think giving people a little more fuel, and scoring them for making it to the end with more would be great.

The mechanics felt a little odd when falling, but the jetpack itself flowed well. A jump would have been nice.

The graphics were well done, everyone looked like they were wandering around. And the music was great, it added a whole other layer.

Enjoyed playing this one. Excellent interpretation of the theme.

Tiny Wiring by Domantas 2017-08-01T11:49:05Z

I loved the graphics, and the mechanic was really cool. It felt a little janky trying to click on things, and it was odd that I had to click on doors to go to them, before then clicking on something on the other side to go to it.

I liked that I could click again to change my mind. Enemy bullets moved a little fast, it made the first time you encounter them really frustrating.

Tutorial levels were well designed, loved how it added the mechanics one by one. But it felt like there was a lot I was still supposed to guess. Like the power path doing it's own thing, adding onto another path etc.

All in all this was really great.

Truck, Fuel my Rockets by garethjenkins 2017-08-20T11:19:49Z

This was a lot of fun, but got repetitive fast. I got up to 37 rockets launched. The controls were smooth, I really liked that they stayed with you, so it was always truck left not my left.

Graphics were beautifully done, and the first time I power slid around a corner and lost half the load of fuel won me over. Beautiful touch.

I think a few more obstacles to avoid, and some power ups or other game aspects to change the speed/game cycle from being an endless loop.

IT's a lot of fun to play as is, and really well done for a weekend worth of effort. Huge props for the audio. The music suited it really well.

Night Shift by galacticglum 2017-08-01T12:12:12Z

That was a lot of fun, and well designed. It felt like the power requirement/difficulty jumped really quickly. Solutions to push a block out of the way and double back to it showed up earlier than I thought.

Mouse movement didn't work for me at all on Windows 10.

The light dropoff felt a little off. It was a little tedious to have to scout around the level to see the shape before restarting. Maybe the outline of the level could be shown, but not the crates locations?

This was a really nice take on the classic pushing boxes puzzle game. I didn't see a lot of worldbuilding or scenery to suggest I was in a factory. The title text told me, but it didnt feel that way.

I Need A Charger! by agentparsec 2017-08-20T11:39:02Z

This was amazing. Random generated city. I felt like I was moving a little slowly which was painful. And overall I wasn't sure why I wanted to find wifi, if I was just looking for the cell phone store. PLayed a few games, never managed to find it.

Really well done. This was great to play, even if I couldn't win!

GREED by NORRIMO 2017-08-08T08:58:48Z

I loved the graphics. The style of the platforms and the monster pushing the spikes was so well done.

The lack of animations on the player hurt though. It felt odd to be skipping around with no change in my appearance at all.

I couldn't get past the first door. I killed the monsters, but had no clue what else I was supposed to be doing.

Ash Dash by DevOrc 2017-08-16T08:58:31Z

This was fun. But the screen would refresh the entire thing again and again, just wipe blue all over the screen for seconds at a time. It got really frustrating and was insanely hard to play when it happened.

Great work on the chosen ascii characters! After a little while it just made sense on it's own.

Survival Adventures by tomdeal 2017-08-16T08:54:43Z

This was a lot of fun. Well done. Cursor placement got a little odd at times, having to inch in, sometimes it didnt recognise things I had IN the cursor.

That music though... it drove me nuts every time!

Power Rush by Mik3 2017-08-16T09:17:56Z

The opening text was really long, which you've heard plenty of. But it was mostly that it was hard to scroll. The text was king of small and whatever was generating the window, my mousewheel did it a half line at a time. Which was infuriating.

It needed some on screen text to tell me what to do. I skipped over the controls the first time through and a prompt on how to charge would have been great.

Apart from that, this has been my favourite LD game by far. I loved playing it.

Annoyances: character moves too slowly, it definitely needed to be sped up a little. The hit box felt off and I got snagged on rocks a few times. Aiming the drill was a huge nightmare and I had to reshuffle myself every time. Tossing the crystals was so much fun, but a few times they got caught in the top of the tube and I needed to get a second one to dislodge it. Teleporter should have let me walk into it, jumping there felt weird. And the crystals didnt stand out enough. They were never hard to find (nothing else was the same size), I just felt they should have been coloured differently.

All in all, this was amazingly well done. You've hit something great with the UI on the drill and the recharging mechanic. There was a lot of variety in how you played.

You should absolutely continue this, it was top notch game design.

Out of the Shadows by Baconinvader 2017-08-01T11:38:45Z

It was odd to fall through the floor when I started walking and just kept falling. The enemies came very close together and nothing I pushed seem to have any effect on the generators. I really wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing.

Royalty by mdacoffee 2017-08-01T12:00:40Z

The tabs got really awkward and tedious. It felt like most of the data about my home country and colonies could just be on the one screen and have tabs for exploring etc.

The limited number of options made it seem like I wasn't playing much of a part. I had the cash and sent doctors and teachers to colonies, but there didnt seem to be much change when I did.

It's a cool concept, off to a really nice start.

I liked the colour scheme and the graphics though. Has a real retro feel to it.

DefXagon by Rothens91 2017-08-16T09:27:28Z

Some of the night time monsters lit up and some didn't, even if they were the same type. And I definitely got annoyed when my meter got full and I could still collect shards, so I had to try and run around them to get the most shield charge.

All in all this was a lot of fun, and the controls felt smooth. Mouse shooting was much better than I expected to get!

I would sometimes run under and sometimes over the tiles for the centre piece, which was confusing. Overall I had fun and smashed a lot of mobs. Love to see it when theres more to do!

Battery of Power by Belga54 2017-08-16T09:02:09Z

This was so great. I loved the dual control system, and the creepy little toys coming after me. It was smooth to move around, and it's great that you got sound in there. Nicely done!

It would have been nice for a little variety in the firing sound. And an indication of being hit. It was a blind guess to know when something was going to die or not.

Battery-Powered Business by AlmostCthulhu 2017-08-01T12:52:51Z

This was a lot of fun. But it counted down very quickly. First run through I found myself suddenly out of cash and not earning much in response.

The puzzles were a little glitchy, parts wouldn't rotate every time when clicked. And I ran out of time on about 3/4 of them. And I normally do ok at pipe matching games.

All in all it had a lot of personality.

Middle mouse to scroll around was odd, and I would have liked it more if the menus showed up near what I clicked on instead of off to the side.

It was a lot of fun though, I've had 4 games so far. Keep it up!

Runnerbot LD39Entry by Pixel Game Wizard 2017-08-08T09:12:37Z

This was a lot of fun. The procedural world felt natural and well places most of the time. It was always great to run into patches and have to choose to plow through a negative to get to the next power up.

I think the autorun should be the default mode, it's definitely the right feel for the game.

Kudos man, I really enjoyed it.

Super Charged by Manumeq 2017-08-01T12:36:10Z

The music and sounds were really good. But the soft edged graphics really distracted. I wasn't sure how close I could cut it, so it felt like my timing was off when I made it or didnt.

The Obstacles felt randomly placed, not stacked at the same height I could jump so there were plenty of times I got stuck and had to power through a bunch of things instead of waiting for them.

The rotating fans were placed left or right of centre, so some of them you couldnt even time right, you just had to take the hit.

The overall mechanics though were great, this is a really cool concept. I love that you start running out of power, and will eventually just fizzle out. It's a great game idea, and nicely built. 5/5 for theme :D

Pity the save data didnt persist after closing it.

Avast freaked out and flagged it as malware, so I had to disable it temporarily.

Five Stages by SonicGrey 2017-08-08T09:05:46Z

The difficulty was a LOT higher than I expected it to be. But it was a great narrative. I really liked the graphics. The first time the sprite did a full rotation as I turned it caught me off guard. Music added a nice touch of emotion, really stepped it up a notch.

Nicely done.
