So I colonised everything possible and the game ended but I didn't know whether or not I had won or lost :D

UI could be less messy, but getting that right in such short amount of time is quite difficult. Good job overall! ;)

I would like to have a map or stats or something to see what you are doing. There is a lot of space that you can use to show info about your kingdoms. Anyway, good job!

Nice concept. I actually liked the interface. Some background music would be cool.

Good job overall, although i feel some sort of sound and a little more clarity to the game's goals would help a lot - for a one man army this is still quite impressive! GG

Holy damn, probably one of the fastest game over screens I've got in a while haha

yeah UX was a bit off had no idea what i was doing for the first 2-3 runs. Than got the hang of it :D Pretty cool though, @otherpeople : dont just give up after the first loss!

Could've worked better with a feedback mechanism.

Overall, the game concept is innovative and I liked playing it. Good job, will play again! :)

Good luck and Congratulations. Hope to see you next LDJAM!

The tabs got really awkward and tedious. It felt like most of the data about my home country and colonies could just be on the one screen and have tabs for exploring etc.

The limited number of options made it seem like I wasn't playing much of a part. I had the cash and sent doctors and teachers to colonies, but there didnt seem to be much change when I did.

It's a cool concept, off to a really nice start.

I liked the colour scheme and the graphics though. Has a real retro feel to it.

Hey, nice game, but right off the bat I was struck by a wall of text and numbers @_@. All I managed was a fast game over screen.

martinus 2017-08-01 12:09

Very good game ! But it is hard to see what you are doing :/ A button to just past a turn could be great if you want to see your kingdom grow a little bit before colonizing. Some background music would make the game more enjoyable! The art is simple but beautiful ! Good job !

A bit too complicated for my taste

Like the concept and your interpretation of the theme. There are somethings that could be improved. Don't hide the resources behind a button so I can see the amount I have constantly and not have to check every time I do an action. Could also do the same for colonies where there is a list of them on the side of the screen. I'm guessing you didn't have enough time for this but it seems only gold and silver is useful as it doesn't seem you can do anything with the rest and there is mainly only two actions I can do (doctor and teacher) without trying to colonize. Apart from that the UI looks nice and clean, and the game played alright.

This game felt like a clicker to me. I just kept on clicking "Train a doctor" and "Train a teacher" (from your kingdom), then I explore and check on which one's going to be colonized depending on the number of my population to avoid being dead in the scene. Other than that, I can't find something that significant on manipulating the ones that you colonized. Seems like my kingdom only works well in action and totally will help boost its resources through the game.

Anyway, the game works very well to me. And the design was intuitive for a clicker style game, but needs some modifications like the other comments above (or below this if some people has something to say).

I liked the overall game, but I guess it lacks some visual things like a map, a chart... The screen is pretty empty. On the other part the game's mechanics work well, I hope you plan to update this one in the (near?) future. Keep it up!

Interesting concept! I had a hard time keeping track of the state of my kingdom since only one tab was ever open at once. It would've have been nice to have an always-open resource tab or something to fill more of the screen. The tooltips were useful but there is a lack of player direction at the beginning, why do I need doctors and teachers? Would be cool to see this fleshed out a little more!

franfox 2017-08-01 13:49

It's hard to understand how menu works at the beginning but it's fun when you get used to. I like the idea of train doctors and teachers and send them to the colonies. Good work!

hu9o 2017-08-01 14:05

The interface is super complicated and there is very little guidance... I couldn't figure out how to play and kept insta-losing. Maybe try to add some kind of tutorial/instructions next time?

I want to say that it's a bit lacking in graphics and interactivity, but given the constraints (one dev, few days and using pure HTML/JS), it's actually a very fair attempt.

PS: Props for using vue.js

To everyone who left comments:

Thanks so much for all of the feedback - I didn't expect to get such friendly and constructive feedback for my first (proper) Ludum Dare entry!

Originally I'd planned to make the tabs moveable windows and include background music and an in-game explanation, but these were some of the things that I didn't get around to doing, along with properly fixing doctors and teachers so they work properly.

I may release an updated version at some point that would be linked from the game's landing page (the white screen) but if I do I don't intend to replace the original entry.
