hi
it's really cute! congrats on your first game jam. the tune is a lovely bop as well.
the character controls could be a bit smoother but it's very silly and fits the theme well. I like it!
Fyi it's bugging out (no pun intended lol) for me; I can install it and open, but can't click anything on the menu screen. I do like the art & music on the menu tho...
Edited: Oops I guess I forgot to try the arrow keys. Maybe a reminder somewhere to help people like me would be good though?
The menu is controlled with the up and down arrows and enter, but I'm glad you like it :)
Very fun! Reminds me of overcooked. I really loved your music! It was so crisp and fun.
I liked the concept, my daughter loves these cooking games, and u done pretty well on this. I liked how you made the ant serve the dishes 👍
Cute little game! Not sure if its physically possible to be successful on any given day put I tried my best lol. I like the art and music!
The movement could be more smooth, and the best strategy seems to only serve the first bug. Maybe slowing down the speed of bug's entrance and enhancing player's speed could be better. All in all, it's a nice try :)
I think there is a point where it's impossible to win JAJA
Nice restaurant concept for the first entry! Too slippery controls and it takes 4 tries to complete Day 1. Try to polish it, remove sticking to the walls and extend colliders. P.S Better make it playable in browser, it will be easier for others!
Congrats on your first entry! Good game concept. I found the controls a bit frustrating. I liked the animation that plays in-between days.
Congrats on your first game jam. Great tune.
The character controls are a bit complicated, but that fits the theme well. I like it!
Great start! Wish you good luck in gamecreating!
The soundtrack was an absolute banger, I loved the concept and I think the concept is really nice. I loved how hectic the game feels and everything is very intuitive and well made. I got stuck on a corner once for a bit, but otherwise I had no problems navigating and I loved how the ant cook sometimes walked sideways or backwards, somehow that added a lot of personality for me.
I had incredible difficulty getting the daily money goals because even focusing on the nearest character and serving them over and over results in not meeting the goal. Perhaps make the money scale a little slower or introduce other dishes that are maybe more complicated to build but give more money. A time indicator for when the day ends would also help a lot.
Very nice game! It's cool to see another person who had a similar idea. I love the little ant and beetle sprites. The one thing I would suggest is to add a trash can to remove bread you are holding. I accidentally made a jam bread when all the beetles wanted plain bread, and I didn't see a way to drop it.
it is true I thought about doing that but I wasted too much time fixing mistakes like rotating the bugs when they arrived haha, thank you for playing!
Congrats on your first game jam! Being as young as you are, its great to see you taking initiative and making games! I wish I did the same thing at your age.
I thought the art and music in this game was very cute! I'd love to see the idea fleshed out more, e.g., having different recipes to balance.
I'd encourage you to take this idea further if you enjoy it!!
Great job :)
Was a bit hard at the start to figure out what I was doing - but once I figured out that I needed to stack bread and then the jam had a bit of fun! Felt like the days past pretty quickly though.
All in all well done mate, you've done well for your first Jam! Really good work!
Respect, for a first game thats impressive! Even more so that you did everything yourself. By day 5 I don't see how i can get the 25$. I always only make around 7-9 bucks. Is there a trick? Someone commented you can stack the bread? How do I do that?
Good concept, but controls feels bugged. It has only toast with jam? It need more food to serve.
loved the concept, quite silly but cute LOL.
Its really nice that a lot of people commented on your post. Great job on finishing your first Game Jam.
Concept for the game is interesting. Ant selling bread and jam? Do you need anything more them that. Maybe some cookies but they can wait.
amazing game, good job!
@sted Yesss, I'm very happy about that! Thank you and I will continue working on the game, the truth is I am much more interested in creating 3D games, but due to time constraints I would not be able to, I plan to do something like this but in 3D
Such a wonderful little game! I love the ant dancing animation. The ant really moves like an ant! RestaurANT is perfect.
Simple concept, but it is pretty fun! The level completed screen is sooooooooo f*cking cute.
I like the music a lot. The movement is bit jittery, at least for the animation part. I wonder if there is a strat to follow.. The best I could do was $10 a day.
Shouldn't you start with the plate first? :D
Good job!
What a fun game! The concept of delivering food to diners using tiny creatures is really interesting. I would suggest paying a bit more attention to the consistency of the graphics. In some areas, the details are so fine that when the images are scaled down, they appear too small, while in others, like the background, the details seem sparse or blurry. I hope that makes sense. Even so, it's a really fun game, and for your first participation in Ludum Dare, it's amazing—especially since it's in the COMPO category!
@milq I'll keep that in mind, thank you!
Cool game! I liked it.
The concept of an ant running a restaurant is adorable and unique! The music is super catchy and fits perfectly with the playful vibe. Controls are a bit tricky at times, but the overall experience is really fun and creative. Gj for your first jam!
Took me a while to understand to pick up food by touching it and then carry it on your back. Perhaps carrying it with the mandibles is something that works well, too? Also, I'm not sure if it's yet possible to get past Day 2. Guests are coming in faster than I can serve them. Aside from that, great performance for your first game! Keep it up, keep learning and improving. All of us do so here. By the way, I adore the title of the game.
Movement is laggy. Music is cool. When u play u want to serve only nearest bug. Controls in game are WSAD and in menu its arrow keys, that is a little bit confusing.
This is a good first try, I appreciate how simple the idea is and the music and graphics have a real charm to them. Unfortunately, the game is too buggy to really enjoy (no pun intended). I think a lot of these things have been brought up already, but from the top:
- The amount of time you have in each level is far too short, so you tend to start failing levels very quickly, and the game doesn't tell you how much time you have left so it comes as a shock when you suddenly lose. - Only once, on my first try, was I actually able to serve a bug. Every other time I tried, the bugs refused to accept the order even if it was correct. I haven't seen anyone else report this so it may just have been me, but I did try running the game multiple times and it happened every time, and it made the game impossible to play. - There doesn't seem to be any point to the level goals, because the game lets you progress to the next day even if you don't complete them. It's nice that you've tried to make the game forgiving (assuming that was your intent), but if I can just stand there doing nothing and still progress through the game, it makes the entire thing pointless. - Having the arrow keys control the menu when the main controls are WASD makes no sense to me.
I hope I'm not sounding too harsh - I know you're only young and this is your first effort, and I don't want you to get discouraged - but it would be disingenuous for me to pretend this game is better than it is, or avoid pointing out its flaws. You won't improve if you don't know what you're doing wrong, and I hope you do improve, because you do have promise, as does this game. You just need to keep practicing, and you'll get better in no time. Good luck! I hope to see more from you in the future.
@f1krazy I really appreciate that you took the time to play the game and write such a complete review, thank you for your support!
