I can't believe another participant also had the salm(m)oning idea :smile: The salmon and dialogs are very cute and the puzzles had a proper difficulty (I expected them to be too easy at first based on the puzzles I know of this kind) Only thing is that the banish and then summon mechanic is a bit confusing, but the salmon itself already mentioned this :smile:

I really enjoyed the graphics and the nature sounds, the dialogue was funny. Classic puzzles with the Salmon of Knowledge. Fun

Hey, another summing game! This one was pretty clever though - the puzzles were engaging without being too difficult. I also really liked all the fish dialogue! I don't really have any feedback, it was just good fun. Overall, great entry!

That was a fun time. I love the puzzle take! I was really tired when I played this but the mathing wasn't frustrating and I love the tricks. I'm glad I got to help the Salmon of Knowledge. :)

I'm no genius and got stumped at the 1 + 1 + 5 = 9 start, but everything was great. Really enjoyed the humor

This is HILARIOUS! Salmon of Knowledge = bis teacher. I appreciated the puzzles and funny dialogue most. Also, it was very satisfying to hear the happy "you got the solution right" little audio cue at the end of each level. That ending though...rip. :laughing:
Dont swin into schools but mastered in multi dimension physics, nice salmon!

Hey, this is probably the highest rate for a game from me so far. :D I like it from every angle (in terms of the ratings).
My best friend loves puzzles, so I'm gonna recommend this game to him. :)
I tried to make something puzzle-like myself too, but I think this is as puzzle-y as it gets while my game is mostly about movement frustration (which is puzzling, lol). :D
Your game has good design (simple things, then more mechanics), humor, good enough art style for a compo game, a good selection of levels and even some ambient sounds. I would assume that the "engine" you made is simplistic and doesn't evaluate the expressions themselves, you probably just checking for the right solution right? This could be a problem if some levels have multiple solutions (but the ones I've seen so far probably have only one).
The theme interpretation is also quite good. I like summoning sticks in a puzzle game more than summoning monsters/units in terms of theme interpretation (there is nothing wrong with a classic approach, I'm just curious about new interpretations). I honestly failed at adding anything theme-related to my game, therefore I opted-out of this rating. You, on the other hand, did a good job.
I'm not sure this game is innovative in general, but it was innovative for me, because I wasn't expecting much from a game that makes me do math. :D

It's true that the puzzle game isn't very innovative in general, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if there are similar games in the jam!
Actually, Godot engine has an out-of-the-box feature to evaluate math expressions, so I just used it ^_^ https://github.com/woonaftl/ludum-dare-55/blob/main/scripts/level.gd#L93

Nice puzzle game with funny dialog to keep things interesting. I brought my salmon to the breeding grounds! Giving a puzzle game some personality with the fish was a great idea, even if it is completely absurd. I enjoyed your game, thank you for making it!

oh my gosh this is hilarious! I love the salmon of knowledge so much. the only way to get me to do math voluntarily in a game is to tempt me with witty banter from the salmon of knowledge
I love the salmon of knowledge, he's the best (as expected of the salmon of knowledge).
Hilarious take on the theme, starting with the idea of salmoning, over all the way to the writing, I had a blast throughout it all. I'm not great at these types of puzzles, as my struggles with the second-to-last puzzle has shown me, but I stayed strong and made it to the end because I knew the salmon of knowledge was there. Sound design was also superb, the sound effects are super polished and the calming stream noises while you figure out the correct solutions works great. I love this game a lot, I think it was great, amazing job on this!
Lots of fun and challenging. Felt a sense of achievement finishing all the levels which I think is a sign of a good puzzle game. Excellent game
Funny game. The whole story and salmon lines made me laugh!
The concept of the puzzle game is quite simple, but it's really well implemented. I would have added an icon to represent "banishing" a stick, because there was no visual indication on that, but otherwise everything looks perfect.
Okay and I was wondering if you hardcoded the solutions, and thought maybe you could have missed possibilities in your algorithm, so I went and checked your code and it made me happy to see that you actually do a real parsing and check of the equations :D
