Ok I didn't get it the first time I played through, but on the second it made perfect sense and it was actually a really good game. Visually and audibly very good. Honestly, my only issue with the game was there was not controls or explaination as to how to play. Otherwise this is high on my list of good games.
I love the art style! And the sound is really good as well. I'd love some way to tell the progress I'm making in the game more up front. But all in all... a solid entry!
This looks beautiful! Might even boot the Windows VM to try it
All right, I had fun. Didn't recognize some of the sounds, seemed like some of them were random (though I'm sure they weren't) but it's hard to find the source of the sound, music is top, graphics are my favorite. Mood sets the mood - just what you need. LIKE

Rally good job. I liked the look and feel of the game. This would have made a good 7DRL game. I made a game as well were you had to destroy the villagers.
I came to play your game after reading your post, and I truly love games with a strong retro style like yours. Your game mechanics and the experience you've crafted are genuinely excellent. You are a true "player," and I salute you, my friend.

@drgcandle thank you so much!
This game is really fun to play. I didn't really knew what to do at first, but I got the grip later on. It's simple but it's effectie on what it tries to do. And the soft piano keys when summoning a creature is really cool anbientation. Overall pretty good!
Great little game. The foxes are surpisingly powerful!
I could see this playing nicely on a gameboy advance.
Would be cool to have a summon log to help remember already discovered combinations.
Rocks could give cover from arrows.
I guess you could omit the need for the pot clicking and just summon when the third ingredient is selected to ease the process.
Overall very polished and cohesive.
Very nice! I loved the little graphics, I loved the music, overall not bad. I really liked summoning little guys, but I never felt like I ever found a rhyme or reason to exactly what the colors do. Both all purples and all oranges summon a high spirit? Yellow seems to be mostly snake related... I would have loved it if I could logic-out what colors to use to get a summon with some particular properties I wanted or something. Secondly, you have GOT to explain some things in-game. I know it's a jam game and I know alot of people don't read it even if it is there but a few tutorial boxes would have gone a long way. Good show!

@jahwffrey thanks for the feedback! Originally, the worts were supposed to be more in-depth. Due to scope, I cut them back to a value which combined in the pot to calculate the result. Would love to expand them back out in the future!
Awesome game! Had a lot of fun with it. The art is gorgeous and the movement felt really good. Excellent work!

The art in this is so cool! Good fun playing around with the different combinations and seeing what comes of it as well.

Had a lot of fun figuring out the different summoning types (at first I died not know I needed to summon add things with mouse). Lovely graphics and music!

What a fun game! The art style drew my eyes right away, so distinct! Looks like those old terminal-games with ascii art, but with a modern twist! It took me a while to find out what 'roots' are, and how to summon stuff, but after some trial and error I got it working :-)

Absolutely love the art style! So few pixels but everything is really clear and cute!
This was a really solid roguelike - visually striking, nostalgic, and fits well with the theme.
I will say, I found it difficult to understand the summons' attack patterns. Ended up spamming snakes because they were much stronger than the wolves and the spirits. But most of my spirits went in a straight line and died, so I think I didn't quite understand how they were supposed to work.
Good job!
Very impressive what you achieved in such a short time. Good, oldschool 8-bit style with graphics, music and sfx. The arrows shot by villagers looked super nice, with this semi-turn-based effect, although they seemed not to do damage (?). The only issue I have is that my summoned allies would sometimes refuse to attack nearby villagers and just run aimlessly around.
Fun little game. Wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing initially, but eventually worked it out. Interesting summoning mechanic. Loved the graphics, reminds me of old DOS games I played as a kid (yes, I'm **that** old), so bonus points for the nostalgia kick. Excellent work!

Really love this one. I guess I got snowballed by the enemy on my first try but had a fun time anyways! :snake: :snake: :snake:
Here is my attempt:

Cute little game! I really like the wiggle animations and the summon mechanic, but the gameplay was a bit confusing. On my first run it felt like I was just wandering around collecting flowers and summoning things without any goal, and even once I figured out the gameplay I still didn't feel like there was any real strategy behind my moves.
This is fun, I enjoyed the Dwarf Fortress-style graphics and the look of the little characters and the animations for moving around. I also like the summoning/color-combination/potion-brewing mechanic.
I think it would've benefited from a tutorial or some kind of reference, even outside the game, because it was a little hard to tell what I was doing / what my goal was. (I did kind of work it out eventually...)

Super cute graphics! I had trouble figuring out the controls at first because it feels like it should be keyboard only, so I didn't think to try clicking on things until I went back to the listing and studied the gifs. I think I also might have appreciated a list of unlocked recipes somewhere, but it also didn't matter much as long as I was summoning something that did something. It was fun that way. Good work!
Really nice graphics - the little animations help make them a lot more fun. Good music as well that fit the vibe.
I mainly collected flowers and summoned random stuff - it was a bit tough to know what I did that was good or bad.
Nice entry!
As others have said, a little more tutorialization would have gone a long way (or just more instruction on the game page). It took me a while to figure out the basics like running into flowers to collect them. After playing for a bit, I was still mostly clicking random ingredients because I didn't remember what the different combos did even though some of the creatures seemed much better than others.
I loved the look and feel of the island, the little wobbly sprites, and the 4-bit color. There were enough tiles and types of behavior from the animals and settlers for the island to feel "lived in" despite everything's behavior being very simple.
I'm not sure exactly what the druid is supposed to be, but the sprite looked sort of bird-esque so this is how I drew him:

Great work and good luck during the rest of play and rate!
